@ tzetzefly for a 1 mth training most people use a B1/B2 visa, the J visa program is for people intending to stay in the US for about a year @ the least and the process is too long for a 1 mth training (I think).

@ Yeecar what's your monthly income and your job profile? It may be that the CO is unconvinced that you have enough ties to Nigeria. Or maybe the details of the training doesn't match your job description.

@ Asorock1 I am so sad @ this turn of events from the shoddy treatment @ the french consulate to the final outcome. Ndo o? I'm so sorry.

@ Asorock what's the outcome?
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 2:34pm On Oct 02, 2013
Asorock pls go to d embassy, everything you presented was fine, savings, hotel bookings and all. We want good news all round and we'd get to the bottom of the name mix-up. All the best bro.

@ tzetzefly Yes Sir! grin grin

Asorock I agree that you give it a break for now, save up some more and maybe consider a conference as suggested. Next year is just 2 mths away.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 4:57am On Oct 01, 2013
@ ogogo pls change that to Yes, you are still employed, meaning you have worked @ a job within the past 5 years. The question is have you worked in 5 yrs, NOT did you START a job.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 4:48am On Oct 01, 2013
@ tzetzefly, I did an SA trip in March and a France application in September of d same year so it is possible to make 2 trips (whether vacation or not) in one year.

@asorock, I'm sorry you didn't get d visa. Indeed Tzetzefly is right, you need to clarify whether that refusal was indeed meant for you. If you were denied and your passport is not stamped, pls don't deny it in any future schengen or uk visa application. The schengen system is interconnected and so all applicants' info enter 1 data bank. It will come up that someone with the same names +/- fingerprints was denied in d past. I had an Italian visa refusal in 2010 and my passport was stamped, d following year I got d France visa.
It will all work-out, and you will go to America by fire by force cheesy just be willing to try again. All the best.

Visit europe if you can and then reapply, an increased income would be welcome also. All the best. I got my 1st UK and US visas as a single girl so it's possible. All the best.

@ nubiangyri:
The info on ur DS 160 must tally with your verbal answers @ d interview. Saying N1,332,000 on d form and then N111,000 implies you lied. You gave an illusion of earning a lot of moneyy.

The theme parks are not cheap, add your airfare + hotel stay and you'd probably spend half of your annual income on your trip. You've worked less than 2 yrs so you probably haven't saved much. So financially you've got a negative.

Add being single and it shows no social ties. Of course being married with or without kids on this income would be suspect also because of living costs so you need to show your status has changed significantly before re applying.

Melson are you an agent? Or are you being funny? You ask some dumb questions sorry to say.
His recent info is an update so he'd be married. It's nothing to worry about unless he plans on being "single" in yet another application form!

@ Sotaj better still wait 4-6mths. You don't want to appear over eager with a recent refusal in september. All the best.

@ Melson: Err "within the last 12 months" means count backwards from your date of scheduling an appointment, has there been a refusal. His response is Yes.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 7:02pm On Sep 22, 2013
@ Joy I think anytime in 2014 is fine to get married. This topic is actually for another thread as this is a tourist visa thread. Let's not derail it.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 4:12am On Sep 22, 2013
@ joy1111 this story seems to be a hot one. Someone else has posted questions regarding the same scenario earlier. The real question is if it is a genuine relationship then there'd be no worries, however close the divorce and death are. A new divorcee suddenly so eager to remarry is surprising, as for the widower that raises my eyebrow even more. But then I'm Nigerian, may be I'm overthinking it. If they are in doubt then they should give their relationship time. I would advice they wait another year before getting married, visits back and forth in the interim would be expedient though. All the best.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 9:29pm On Sep 16, 2013
@ Melson a government issued death certificate is what he needs to prove that he is now a widower. A USC willing to marry him is fine, the processing takes about 6 to 10 mths from the date all docs are properly filled. That should give enough time btw his loss and the actual interview. If there are no other unseen problems, it should go smoothly.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 9:54am On Sep 13, 2013
@ emmanuelefe you have to do your homework and go online to find out how to apply, d fees, booking an appointment and so on. No one is gonna give u step by step moves here: it's too tedious and has been done on earlier pages of the thread. check out www.ustraveldocs.com/ng guidelines on how to fill the application form (DS-160) are all there.

@ favoredgal: the child would only qualify for dropbox if she has had a visa in the past that has expired or is expiring soon.
@ shalon apply for a visa for her and either you or the mom should take her in for the interview. You should have applied for hers when you did yours even if yours was dropbox and she is a 1st timer. Now you have to go back to the embassy and queue up. But she'll get hers, since you both have valid visas already.

Regarding Appointments:
I just booked my appointment for Renewal today and realised there were no available dates beyond September 25th 2013, Oct/Nov/Dec 2013 all appeared unavailable. Who knows the reason? Is it because all those dates are fully booked? Or because they just haven't opened up those months?
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 11:38pm On Sep 01, 2013
@ darocha a few questions which they would either ask you directly or glean from your info on d application form:
What is peculiar about this illness that it can't be treated in Nigeria? If you're Nigerian why bring medical documents from Benin Republic? If the illness is that serious that you can't travel alone, why go with a brother who also doesn't have strong ties to Nigeria?

Remember @ the U.S. Embassy every person applying for a visa is an intending Immigrant so you need to convince them otherwise. Now to answer your questions:

1. Yes your document will be acceptable but you will have to get a court-certified English translation of them.

2. You and your brother need to prove strong ties to Nigeria either by having good well paying jobs/businesses, investments or family ties.

3. Your chances are slim with your brother not working and willing to accompany you on this journey. He has no reason to return to Nigeria and it seems neither do you.

4. Until you get that visa, you really can't plan or how to go about staying back.
Besides if you're going for a medical reason that warrants international travel and treatment, what makes you strong enough to hustle?

Oh boy, this your medical story na wash o grin

If their combined income can cover the cost of their trip including the baby's then it's possible. The catch is if she's a single mom applying in her maiden name, and her baby bears his/her fathers's surname (as is to be expected in Nigeria) then there may be a challenge. How will the CO be sure the father has consented for d child to travel? What if she's kidnapping the baby? Those will be my thoughts if I was interviewing the mother.

Can they just defer their trip till they are married? It will be a neater arrangement than this. Then everyone apply as a family later.

Or they apply as 2 seperate individuals and they leave baby @ home in Naija during their vacation. Later they can obtain a visa for d baby when they are legally married.

@influential your monthly income does not pay for you and your wife's visa application fee, not to talk of paying for your airfare, you have a friend (who has no real commitment to to you) sponsoring you for a conference. Sounds too much like an effort to do your best to get a visa and not return.

@ maxiserve now that you've explained her status it's clearer now. A legal immigrant can invite anyone to come visit. So pls state u have a relative who is your sister and she emigrated to join her husband who is a citizen. It will be straight forward. We thought there was something to hide about her legal status. smiley

@ maxiserve they may ask your relationship with the man, if you say your sister's husband, then you may be asked "what is your sister's status, why isn't she the one inviting yo"u, what do you say? If she overstayed a tourist visa, they may assume you want to do the same and deny you.
I'd advice you to find another friend/relative to be your host, that way you don't get boxed into a corner.
Housee, ideas please?

@ ulst they're well trained to see/hear changes in ur body language and answers. So from the beginning, when you were denied in Serbia were there any discrepancies in ur application then? Any white lies that seemed small but are important? How long ago was that denial?
It does look odd to import goods from the UK and never been there. So that drew his attention as well as the previous US visa denial.
For your wife's trips, how many were real and how many were not? They can't verify other countries' visas but I bet they recognize false claims or stamps.
The statement by your wife that she lost her passport while on "transit" through Ghana is not clear. If she was visiting Ghana and lost her pp then she should have said so. In transit suggests travelling from 1 country to another and then you make a brief stop in a 3rd country. Eg travelling to the U.S. on Alitalia and then you transit through Rome for a few hours.
I'm sorry you were denied but your answers were not the best responses you could have given. A PGD is defintely higher than a BSc, unfortunately you said that wrong. You had too many unsatisfactory answers.
My advice, give it 4-6mths before reapplying, be sure about the information you put on your application and give the same answers you've provided when asked. Try and make a couple's vacation to Europe first and then give it another shot.
You may not be barred from the U.S but pls clarify what is truth and what is not. All the best.

There is an electronic record of his arrival and departure so he will be fine. To be safe, he could keep his boarding pass stubs from this trip just in case it comes up when he travels again and he is asked.

@ shiba if he says he's divorced then he must bring an authentic divorce decree. "Oluwole" documents these days no dey work o - dem fit catch am.Dont forget that whether his spouse files in Nigeria or the US they will still ask for original documents especially if it was a previous marriage. claiming he is divorced is adding fuel to the fire. Can his spouse speak to an Immigration lawyer who is experienced for guidance? That way he knows what can be waived (forgiven) and what cannot.
Travel / Re: Usa Visit Visa by blawi1(f): 10:53am On Aug 25, 2013
@ shiba that is called material misrepresentation, he lied that he was married to prove ties to nigeria, and claimed his current wife was his "sister" , a "friend" would have been safer. They have all that info on record with his finger prints so they will see it all. It doesn't look good and he should brace himself for detailed questions because they will assume the marriage is a sham. It's gonna be tough but not impossible.
@ topaz it should be, along with other proofs of payment to attend the conference and so on. I'm sure a Conference Guru" will reply you soo.

Greetings CO. A friend has this dilemma: she got her current visa as a single lady and it expires soon. She visited the U.S in 2012 and got married to her husband who is a permanent resident of the U.S. She returned to Nigeria afterwards and has visited again in 2013 staying for a month. She wants to renew her visa as she has no plans of over-staying/ relocating yet. Her husband becomes a citizen next year and will file for her come 2014 but she wants to maintain a clean record for the future. Would a CO insist on interviewing her despite the dropbox for renewal being available now? What are her chances of getting her visa? Please advise.

Not 100% of the time but someone posted a few wks ago that his friend tried to travel with a visa he procurred thru an agent. D visa was flagged @ the airport and he was told to go to the American embassy for further clarification. We never heard d conclusion of the case.
If you've received your visa, you'll be fine unless there's a serious falsehood that worries you.

In Nigeria? what i know is 2 yrs or less. In Ghana you could get a 5 yr visa. Pls clarify. Have you seen the visa you have or someone is promising to "organise" the visa for you?

1. No it won't, everyone has a right to change their minds.

2. Sure you can

3. your visa is valid regardless of when you use it either within days or months later. Just enter the US by the date it expires and you're fine.
