Moments ago, several news outlets reported that the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said a decision is yet to be taken on the person who will sign the 2017 budget into law.

The Minister was reported to have made the statement when he was speaking with state house correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. Mohammed had told the correspondents that the national assembly was yet to transmit the budget to the presidency. But when he was asked ‎ who will sign the budget when the legislature sends it, he was reported to have said, “‎That decision will be taken when it is transmitted to the presidency‎.”

Ekemini Ekerette, known in Big Brother Naija’s house as Kemen has been disqualified and sent packing from Big Brother’s house. Kemen, was disqualified after he was caught on camera on Saturday night touching fellow housemate, Tboss while she was asleep.

Kemen has been trying to get close (romantically of course) to Tboss but his advances had been turn off several times in the past. So the “sharp guy” waited for all housemates to fall asleep, and then started groping Tboss who was also asleep.

I chose to discuss this topic not only because it interest me as a socially conscious Nigerian, but because I feel a good number of Nigerians are exploiting President Buhari’s prolonged vacation in the United Kingdom to pass unpatriotic and uninteresting comment on the administration of President Buhari and everyone working on the team.

It all started with the rumor that the president is dead, but the President’s media team was swift to dispel that rumor. Like they weren’t satisfied with that, they launched another attack, this time they alleged that the private doctors of the President has certified him unfit to rule. But then those that were in communication with the President, the leaders of the National Assembly and the Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo dispelled the rumor and assured Nigerians the President is in sound health.

Yes I admit, the media team of the President has been feeding us with contradicting reports on the President’s state of health, but does that justify why some of us chose to assume he’s dead or critically ill? No, it doesn’t. Guess those people have allowed their hatred overcome their desire for a better Nigeria. Have you guys forgotten President Buhari is still our President? If we want the best for Nigeria, we should desire that our leaders have good health so we can all pursue that dream together as a united nation. That’s exactly how it should be!

One other thing, some sections have recently been advocating that President Buhari should resign so as to allow the Vice President (currently the Acting President) Prof. Yemi Osinbajo become President. I personally find their opinion unpatriotic and utterly disgusting.

Gone are the days when people have sex simply to procreate i.e. give birth to offspring. It got me wondering, how will their sex life look like? It would sure be disgusting! The indefinite extension of President Muhammadu Buhari’s vacation in the United Kingdom has generated an unexpected debate on the President’s health status.



President Buhari had earlier written the National Assembly to notify them of his intention to embark on a 10-day vacation in the United Kingdom. However, on the 5th of February, President Buhari wrote to the National Assembly that he was extending his vacation indefinitely so “he can complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors”.

In the aftermath of the news of the extension, Nigerians took to the social media to ‘debate’ the President’s health in the name of ‘voicing out their concerns and fears’ about the President’s health.

Attempts by his family, media aides and even the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo to refute claims by some sections of the media (and of course, some Nigerians) that the President’s health is deteriorating proved abortive. The Presidency was ‘forced’ to release several pictures of the President ‘in good health’ but Nigerians claimed the pictures were old and do not represent the true state of the President’s health.

Some weeks ago, while I was scrolling down my wall on Facebook, I saw a video that caught my attention. In the video, the actors were conducting a comparative social experiment on the reaction of bystanders to sexual harassment instances with a man as the victim and also instances that has a woman as the victim. The aim of the experiment was to establish that men too are sometimes victims of sexual harassment.

In the video, a lady was made to touch and speak to a man in an appropriate manner in public. The man refused the advances and screamed for help. Bystanders gave him little or no attention. They just sat there watching and laughing. There was even a guy that walked up to him and said he was crazy for turning down sexual advances from a lady.

Later in the video, they had the guy make sexual advances toward the lady (exactly like she did earlier). Surprisingly, people rushed to her defense even before she verbally refused the advances. It got so serious that some people even threatened to hit the man if he kept touching the lady. So I asked myself some disturbing questions; why couldn’t they rush to defend the guy as well? Who would people just decide men can’t also be victims of sexual harassment?

Who else heard the news that Senator Yele Omogunwa, who is currently representing Ondo South Senatorial District on Wednesday, 25th of January 2017 while contributing on the floor of the Senate suggested that Nigeria should legalise corruption? Well I did and I didn’t find it funny like most Nigerians did. With such news, I realised we have the wrong individuals in power as our leaders. We are kinda in for it!

Senator Omogunwa even argued that with such legislation corrupt politicians (like him I guess) and public officials will have no reason to hide their loot abroad. He suggested that legalising corruption would be a good way of curbing it since it has eaten deep into the fabrics of this nation.

How will such legislation achieve that almost impossible feat? He was of the opinion that a legalized corruption would help politicians and public office holders to invest their loots in businesses in Nigeria rather than stashing them abroad. But who told him his corrupt colleagues are even planning to develop the country? Most of them are there to fill their pockets that explain why they have been unable to come up with developmental initiatives over the years.

In the early hours of Wednesday, 25th January 2017, Governor Ayodele Fayose foiled an attempt by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest Apostle Johnson Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide in Ado Ekiti. The pastor was in Ado Ekiti for a two-day crusade that was also attended by Governor Fayose.

Apostle Suleman was alleged to have instructed his church members to kill any Fulani herdsmen found or seen around his church. Apostle Suleman utterances were propelled (like he said) by a tip off he got from an unnamed individual who informed him of plans by Fulani herdsmen to attack him and his convoy.

Operatives of DSS were reported to have trailed Apostle Suleman after he visited Governor Fayose at the Government House. They (Operatives of DSS) trailed him to his hotel room and almost forced their way in but they faced resistance by the hotel Security who was said to have insisted to know their mission before they allow them in.

On the 31st of March 2015 at about 5:15 pm, Goodluck Jonathan, who at that time was the President of Nigeria and Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections, put a call through to Muhammadu Buhari who was at the time the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the election to concede defeat and congratulate him (Buhari) on his victory at the polls.

At the time Jonathan made the call, the Independent National Electoral Commission was yet to declare Muhammadu Buhari as winner because the results from Borno State was yet to arrive at the coalition center but it was clear the PDP had lost the election (with the presidential election results from 35 states already counted).

The “historic” call worked magic in defusing tension mounting across Nigeria and in turn threw Jonathan up as a hero of Nigeria’s democracy. If the conversation had not happened, Nigeria might have descended into violence as an aftermath of the election.
