Politics / Accord Party: Hakeem Dickson Promises Lagosians by ElixirDavid(m): 3:18pm On Nov 22, 2022
The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the 2023 election, Hon. Hakeem Olaogun Onikoyi-Dickson has promised to make governance accessible to Lagosians.

According to him, his administration would operate e-government, where businesses and all that had to do with government transactions would be done through technology.

He said there would be no shortcut in his government, noting that this would entrench transparency, nipping in the bud all forms of bureaucratic bottleneck hindering quick results.

Onikoyi-Dickson made this known in Lagos, while addressing newsmen, on plans to reinvent the uniqueness of the state as a centre of excellence.

This he said was contained in the seven points agenda, the administration intended to deploy to take the state to enviable heights.
He said the top priorities of the administration would be on, good health, safety and environment, education, infrastructure, security, finance, insurance arts, culture, entertainment,
tourism, and sports amongst others.

In the area of health, Onikoyi-Dickson said he intended to put healthcare development and foreign partnerships in place. He said, there would be a 24 hours emergency response service unit in all local government areas.

He added that bringing medical reforms and mental health awareness campaigns amongst other services would take the centre stage.

The media parley which was also attended by the Accord Party governorship candidate’s running mate, Mrs Mojisola Afolayan maintained that infrastructure development would get a boost.

According to Afolayan, a real estate expert, said, it is putting a round peg in a round hole. The governorship candidate explained that the people would get affordable homes.

He said, low-cost housing schemes, revitalisation and investment in waterways transportation, including the construction of more access and link roads would further expand the horizons of the state as the economic nerve centre of Nigeria, vis-a-vis Africa.

Onikoyi–Dickson said he would bring in total reforms and upgrade the education sector by maintaining and putting in bigger investment in the Universal Basic Education scheme, provision of financial aid to students in tertiary institutions, rehabilitation of schools and other institutions of learning.

He noted that there was a need for the establishment of more university campuses in the state enduring that bursary allowances are paid to students. He stressed that he would bridge the gap of students dropping out of school by making sure children who are supposed to be in school are adequately guided.

He explained that the arts, culture, tourism and entertainment industry would be harnessed to bring in further growth and developments through foreign collaboration where necessary.

He said there was a need to invest in the huge talents, and collaborate with the professionals in the industry to groom more talents,. ” l will breed more talents and give them all the support they need to soar high and reach the skies. Lagos State is the centre of entertainment in Nigeria to the world and the talents are here, l will build and invest in them.”

He stated that he would develop and promote the arts, and culture, and create traditional freedom, that would allow traditional rulers to play the roles unhindered with freedom of worship guaranteed as enshrined by the constitution.

In sports, he promised to construct stadia and recreational centres in all senatorial districts, invest in the physically challenged, giving room for such games as polo, golf, formulae 1, rugby, karting and all that will make the physically challenged in the state comfortable in every area of sporting activities.

He said all these and lots more have been marshalled out in the seven points agenda of the Accord Party’s blueprint for Lagos State.

Politics / Hakeem Dickson Sets To Change Lagos by ElixirDavid(m): 12:35pm On Nov 21, 2022
The Accord party’s candidate for the 2023 gubernatorial election in Lagos state, Hakeem Olaogun Onikoyi-Dickson, has stated that he understand the plights of Lagosians better than the other candidates vying for the same position.’

Onikoyi-Dickson stated during a recent parley with journalists in Lagos. He maintained that he plans to bring in his wealth of experience to make the Center of Excellence a living paradise and make the people live the life of a King, even as he intends to use the resources of the state for the benefit of all.

He said he has done all these in the past when he was the chairman of Surulere local government area of the state, stressing that he eradicated poverty and gave the local government a total facelift, making it a conducive environment to live in.

The Accord Party candidate noted that he was able to achieve this by creating family programs that helped at increasing the standard of living within his local government, coupled with other programs like, the free dental services and mobile clinics in all the markets and lots more.

“l have the skill, expertise, and experience to turn Lagos State around for the benefit of all Lagosians. Now is the time to take a step ahead and change the mindset of Lagos for a very few, but a Lagos that belongs to all Lagosians”. He concluded.
Politics / Hakeem Dickson - We Need To Bring Back Children To The Classroom by ElixirDavid(m): 4:26pm On Oct 27, 2022
https://www.hakeemdickson.com/hakeem-dickson-top-new/

Earlier this year, a report was released by UNESCO that Nigeria, which is Africa’s biggest economy now has over 20 million out-of-school children.

These are children that should be enjoying the universal basic education rights. Lagos particularly has more than 2 million children out of school, which is two hundred thousand more than the entire number of out-of-school children in Kenya.

These statistics continue to grow yearly despite the claim to curb it, which the past and current governments have made.

The Lagos state government has to do more than just the usual media-advertising and channel real effort to strengthen the education system and bring back children to the classroom.

It is of great importance to note that the efforts to strengthen the educational system and to bring out-of-school children back to classrooms are neither synonymous or even the same. This is what our government will do differently. We will create systems to put children in school without putting the burden on their parents. Basic education is the fundamental right of every child, therefore, we will focus on capacity building in schools and the educational system at large. We will ensure that basic education is compulsory and free.

We solicit for the support of the good people of Lagos to join us as we make this historic change. This change begins with you. It is vested in the power of one vote.

Politics / Tinubu Has Caged Lagos, Break Free — by ElixirDavid(m): 3:58am On Oct 26, 2022
Hakeem Olaogun Onikoyi-Dickson has left the APC. He said the ideology of the leader of the party is to make Lagos his own.

Dickson disclosed in an interview held in Lagos, that he will not sit and watch APC do what they did in 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019. He said that Tinubu's system is that which he knows very well and he is ready to tackle it.

Hakeem Dickson was once the Chairman of Surulere Local Government from 1998 to 2002. He said it is time for some people to rest and let those who have the capacity to work be voted in. He also added that if Lagosians do not take the chance now, he knows that the next four years is targeted at removing some people who have had their whole lives in Lagos.

Hakeem Dickson has now moved to Accord. He said he prefers an uncorrupt party where things will be done in the interest of the masses. He added that the Igbos and Hausas should put their minds at rest that the APCs plan for Mile 12 and Ladipo markets will not work when he becomes the governor of Lagos State.

Would you rather vote APC or a fresh and uncorrupt party like ACCORD?
Politics / 2023 ELECTIONS: Lagos Can Be A Mega And Sustainable City - Hakeem Dickson by ElixirDavid(m): 11:35am On Sep 22, 2022
Inevitably, Lagos has struggled long enough with elections, and it seems like no matter what we do, we always come back to the same position—where we left off. Since the 4th republic, Lagosians have always wanted Lagos to be a megacity, but it seems not enough effort is put into it.

Lagos has already met the population required to be a megacity. Lagos is Africa's population giant, ahead of Cairo, Kinshasa, and even Nairobi. It is, in fact, the fastest-growing economy in Africa and one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

Despite these feats, it is surprising that Lagos is still a city of potholes, epilepsy power supply, poor school infrastructure, road accidents, and louts and touts. As a business hub, entrepreneurs should be able to go about their businesses freely in Lagos, even though there would be government regulations to protect the people's interests.

For some politicians who have put themselves at the top, Lagos is a cashing-out centre. They have turned it into a place where they enrich their pockets and the accounts of their unborn children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, while people who are alive are not living but just surviving. Many Lagosians wake up every day not knowing where their next meal will come from.

However, all these things need to change. A megacity should not just be "mega", it should be sustainable too. Building sustainable cities begin with employing proper town planning mechanisms. The effects of improper town planning mechanisms to ensure that a sustainable city is built

Hakeem Dickson has promised that for Lagos to be the megacity it claims to be, there is a need for sustainable town planning.

Politics / Have Lagosians Suddenly Forgotten The ENDSARS Struggle - Hakeem Dickson by ElixirDavid(m): 1:18pm On Sep 05, 2022
www.hakeemdickson.com

Hakeem Dickson said that it is like Lagosians have suddenly forgotten the EndSARS struggle and everything attached to it, including the vows they made to ensure that power returns to the people via the 2023 elections.

However, things have changed now. The same youths who said they would not support politicians who had taken advantage of them are now going after politicians, campaigning for them, and even spending their own money on their behalf.

The current situation in Lagos is alarming and it is looking as if the Nigerian Centre of Excellence is priding itself on its old glory.
There is a need for Lagosians to wake up and do the needful, which includes making the right choice at the polls and voting for someone who is not in politics for fame or money. Lagosians need to know that the so-called leaders are the architects of their (the people’s) misfortune.
Lagos is supposed to be a mega city, and if swift and collective actions are not taken by the people, this dream may never come to reality.
Politics / “Lagos Educational System Can Be Better” — Hakeem Dickson Says More Can Be Done by ElixirDavid(m): 3:06pm On Aug 29, 2022
“It is very clear that we must create a need-based intervention that is not general but specific to every school, every local government, and every education district in Lagos State.” (www.hakeemdickson.com)

Over the years, educational administration in Lagos state has significantly improved, undoubtedly. However, there are still issues with managing the system, and these are issues that should not exist in a 21st-century megacity.

The benefits of the educational system are not spread thin enough or thick enough. While some schools in Badagry, Ikorodu, and Alimosho still lack desks and chairs, some schools in some other parts of Lagos have enough. This orchestrated marginalisation affects the general educational system. Education is a fundamental right of every Lagosian, and as such, all Lagosians should have access to quality education, which is capable of transforming their lives and making them useful and productive members of society.
As a mega city, Lagos should set the pace for other states to follow. It would not be too much to mention that the federal government and the federal ministry of education could copy the Lagos blueprint. It would not be the first either; the Lagos State Government had at one time copied the blueprint of the Surulere Local Government Area on educational improvement and inclusion under the chairmanship of Hon. Hakeem Dickson.

The Lagos State Ministry of Education distributed free essential textbooks to students in primary and secondary schools in Lagos State in 2008, and these books no longer exist due to discontinuation and poor movement of initial copies. Equipping pupils and students with textbooks is like arming their minds and challenging them to bring the best out of them. In addition, it is also a way to improve the reading and learning culture and build an educated society, these values are very important for the continued growth of any megacity.

Hakeem Dickson, a top-dog political leader and voice of the masses, believes that “education should be accessible to everyone, including the children of lower or moderate-income households, adults, and people living with disabilities”. Hon. Hakeem Dickson believes that there is a perfect educational system where everyone benefits, and it begins with the willingness of the government to make positive contributions and take responsibility for the reasons that led people to the polls to vote them in.

While Hakeem Dickson discloses some of his plans, he mentions that primary and secondary educational administration should be need-based rather than the usual practice. He said, “Some parts of Lagos need more facilities than others, while some just need some more manpower.” Therefore, it is very clear that we must implement a need-based intervention approach that is not general but specific to every school, every local government, and every education district in Lagos State”. The system will be more efficient if we look at the needs of each of the local government areas and education districts and attend to their specific needs rather than general needs. He added that the understanding of these needs will enable principals and school administrators to collaborate with their teaching and non-teaching staff members and design a SWOT analysis, which would be used to understand specific situations and attend to them.

Hakeem Dickson added, “Another problem is that we do not use our brilliant minds. We have researchers in various areas of education in our universities. They are experts in their respective fields. They can be funded, motivated to research and come up with a lasting solution to the problems of educational administration and management in their state and country at large”. He promised that these were just a few of the things his administration will address when he becomes governor of Lagos State in 2023.

Politics / How Systems Work - Hakeem Dickson by ElixirDavid(m): 1:27pm On Aug 22, 2022
People create systems for people. In governance, the essence of any system developed is to ensure that the masses benefit from whatever system is designed. One of the most important things is that government is not a profit-making enterprise even though it needs citizens’ taxes and other internally generated revenues. Systems are fundamentally created by governments, and the people in government are first human beings before any other thing. Hence, they are humans creating systems for other human beings. The success or failure of the systems affects all. Therefore, the government must create systems, formulate policies, and make decisions that work for the people to make the jurisdiction more liveable for people.

ECONOMIC PROGRESS AND DIVERSIFICATION: Our government will ensure that there is economic progress, which would be all-inclusive. More families in Lagos would be lifted above the national and international poverty levels.
MANPOWER RECRUITMENT AND DEVELOPMENT: Being youth-centred, our government will ensure that youths in Lagos get jobs and value for their skills. We will strengthen the Ministry of Youth and Social Development to function effectively and improve the lives of youths in Lagos State. Our government will steer information and communication technology forward and in the right direction. The world has gone digital, so we must polish our skills and human resources to match the current global economic demands.
LEGAL AND JUDICIAL REFORMS: Our government will ensure adequate legal and judicial reforms. The Office of the Public Defender would be strengthened to function more effectively. There would be no illegal arrests of youths in Lagos, and there would be a swift legal response and adequate representation for all and sundry.
SAFETY AND SECURITY: Lagos would be Nigeria's and Africa's safe haven. Lagosians would be safe from hazards and accidents, including external aggression or unrest.
OPTIMAL USE OF LAGOS RESOURCES AND BLOCKING LEAKAGES: Our government will ensure that all revenues go to the legal and statutory purse. All funds will be utilised effectively by the government for the progress of the economy.

Politics / The Right Way To Vote by ElixirDavid(m): 8:12am On Aug 17, 2022
As much as we are looking forward to the 2023 elections, Hakeem Dickson, the gubernatorial candida of Accord Party in Lagos has urged supporters, Lagosians, and Nigerians at large, to vote accordingly.

Hakeem Dickson said voting the right way is voting with your index finger rather than your thumb. Voting with your thumb may cause your vote to be void.

Hakeem Dickson also urged Lagosians not to participate in money politics, but to vote for their candidate of choice.

Hakeem Dickson said he believes the 2023 elections will be a game changer and powers will change hands.

He also urged Nigerian youths to shun violence and promote peace before, during, and after elections.

Politics / Is Money Politics Ending In Lagos? (photos) by ElixirDavid(m): 10:03am On Aug 15, 2022
In the last few weeks, various support groups have been springing up anew in Lagos. Some of these groups have pledged their support for another candidate who neither belongs to the All Progressive Congress (APC) nor the People's Democratic Party (PDP). They are campaigning for Hon. Hakeem Ologun Onikoyi-Dickson to become the next governor of Lagos State. Hakeem Ologun Onikoyi-Dickson, popularly known as (HOD), is the gubernatorial candidate of Accord (Accord Party) in the Lagos election race.

What is this telling us? Is this the end of money politics in Lagos? Will this be the end of the APC-PDP power tussle? Will power change hands in 2023?

There is breaking news that the Kegites community supports Peter Obi for President. What does this tell us about Nigeria? It was just recently that the Pyrate confraternity mocked Tinubu. Will the 2023 election really be a game-changer for Nigeria, or will all this die down soon?
Nigerian youths need to get more serious and vote for a person who has the all-round development of the youths and masses in mind.
Now let's talk about Lagosians. I mean, those who are living and voting in Lagos.

Do you still prefer Sanwo-Olu or do you have another candidate in mind?

If vote buying didn't work in osun, I wonder how it will work in general election for someone that relies on it, this is a disgrace for apc it is obvious they are fiding it difficult in osun which is the originated state of their presidential candidate, And for Buhari to use efcc and other law enforcement agencies, its obvious this is what he will do in the general election by staying neutral, apc not having momentum in osun election speaks volume. If apc lost in osun have will sendt signals to sanwo olu and other non performing governors to sit up and perform because they still have a window of 7months to do something before the elections instead of them believing in buying voters, all I want is a good governance in naija.

Since 1999, one political party (even though the name often changes) has been ruling Lagos. Is there any chance for any other party?

We have seen the doings of the PDP, and just recently, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a former senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner of the Labor Party primaries. However, what chances does Sanwo_Olu, the current Governor, have?

The Hon. Hakeem Ologun Onikoyi-Dickson has promised to rescue Lagos from the hands of those who think it is their right to rule Lagos. Dickson believes that Lagos is not well governed. As the former Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, he believes Lagos has not been utilising its resources and revenues adequately and the present administration has not done enough to include youths, women, and people living in the border communities in government.

Dickson says he sees a new light for Lagos, where things are better and the cost of living is more affordable, even for those who earn the national minimum wage. Dickson also adds that the national minimum wage is too low for residents of Lagos. He said, "If we utilise the resources and revenue from Lagos well, the minimum wage in Lagos should beat the national minimum wage."

While masturbation, to some people, is a moral decadence, it is still not a crime, until it is stated by the law to be a crime. Aside that, when people do things, such as plastic surgery, bleach, or other kinds of artificial adornments to adorn themselves, the Nigerian society often turns back at them. We negatively criticise forgetting that people have liberty to be whom they want to be. That a person’s way of life does not suit us, does not necessarily mean it is bad. That people’s perception about life does not tally with ours, does not mean we should embrace these people or show love to them. In the same vein, that we don’t like what they do does not automatically makes us good. People should do what suits them.
