Travel / Nigerian Govt. Takes Over Distressed Arik Airlines, Appoints New Management by ericok(m): 3:41pm On Feb 09, 2017
The Federal Government on Thursday took over Arik Airlines and announced the appointment of a new management in a bid to save the country’s aviation industry from total collapse.
Under the new arrangement, Roy Ilegbodu, a veteran aviation expert, has been named to take over the management of the airline under the receivership of Oluseye Opasanya, a senior advocate of Nigeria.
Besides, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, said the government would give a lifeline to support the financially-distressed Arik Airlines continue as a going concern in the aviation industry.
AMCON spokesperson, Jude Nwauzor, said the government’s decision to intervene clearly underscores a commitment to instill sanity in the country’ aviation sector to prevent a major catastrophe in the country.
“The development will afford Arik Airlines, which is the largest local carrier in the country, to go back to regular and undisrupted operations, avoid job losses, protect investors and stakeholder funds as well as ensure safety and stability in the already challenged aviation sector,” Mr. Nwauzor said.
Arik, which controls about 55 per cent of the country’s passenger traffic, has for some time faced threat of liquidation as a result of heavy financial debt burden, weak corporate governance, operational difficulties, bad management and inability to pay staff regularly.
Apart from backlog of accumulated staff salaries, AMCON said the airline has the most demotivated workforce in the sector, while being in constant default in its lease payments and insurance, resulting in aircraft getting confiscated by lessors.
Besides, the airline has been operating extremely erratic schedules not good for a strategic carrier, with its flights routinely either delayed or cancelled without explanations to customers.

Other corporate issues, which have eroded Arik brand reputation include negligence of operational regulations, luggage pilfering or outright disappearances, poor corporate governance, and disregard for safety procedures.
The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said the government’s decision to take over the management of Arik Airlines would stabilise its operations, enhance its long term economic value, revitalise its ailing operations, and sustain safety standards, in view of its pivotal role in the Nigerian aviation sector.
The Minister pledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Aviation for the new management to make Arik remain a strategic carrier, saying the intervention was in the best interest of the general public, workers, creditors and other aviation interest groups.
“All necessary steps have been taken to ensure that there would be no undue disruption on Arik’s regular business operations or activities of other stakeholders, on account of the recent changes in the leadership and management of Arik Airline,” the minister said.
Meanwhile, the new management of the airline has assured both the staff and other interest groups that it would work to add value to its operations, improve customer experience, and sustain the safety, reliable and secure operational history it was known.
Prior to the takeover, operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, stormed the head office of the airline, to meet with its Chairman, Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide.

Career / Re: Secretaries (Or Personal Assistants) On Nairaland by ericok(m): 1:22pm On Mar 12, 2011
mummy3:

Nobody will come and announce here that she has been sleeping with her boss. How sure are we with all this testimonies. I disagree with what you people talked about having an affair with your boss. In this our Nigeria that your boss will ask you out and you disagree, and he will now watch you sitting comfortably to work in his office (lie lie), immediately you disagree, you'll become his enermy and he'll look for a way to throw you out of that company and get another secretary that will become his sex tool then promotions follows.

Except you are working with a real man of God that has the fear of God. Because men can be so terrible. Majority of men can frautrate ladies using job opportunites. And woman will fall due to economic of our country. You'll see some woman fying about with cars, occpuying big positions in big companies, do you think it's by that woman's power? no it's because she's decided to mingle sexually with his or boss to enable her fly very high in the company, else she'll be thrown out.

You may be telling me false stories pretending to be a righteous secretary while you are out there flying high in your company with your boss browsing you right, left and centre. Then i'll listen to your stories and decide to do what you advice me and im dying silently or may even loss my job.

Please let us not deceive ourselves.
Trust yourself, let me trust myself
We are all adult, we all know the righteous things to do according to our faith (christian or muslim)
Who no like better to come her way

Goodluck to all of you

One thing I have discovered in life is that most people equate themselves with others. Mummy3 for the fact that you are sleeping with your boss does not mean that every other person is doing it. Secretaries are professionals who know how to handle situations diplomatically without causing frictions. This does not mean that we do not have bad eggs among them.

Phones / Re: Mtn Is The Most Useless Organisation In Nigeria? by ericok(m): 7:33am On Aug 07, 2010
Two days is too small,  Let us switch off our phones for six months. I am sure that will do the needed magic. Allow the networks be o jare! If we get other sectors of the economy right by encouraging investors, the better it would be for our country. Let's encourage more investors through libralization of our economy. Only then will competition and the interactions of the forces of demand and supply force the prices of services, products and commodities down. I rest my case.

I'm just wondering why an average Nigeria likes 'awuf'. Una for say make all the networks no dey charge for calls and their other services. We seem to forget easily that we are in a capitalist economy.

This man is certainly fake. From all the information you have given about him; he has nothing to offer you. You may begin to pick your pieces and start a new.

He is not processing any divorce and he is not willing to do so in the near future or ever. Please wakeup to reality.
Car Talk / Re: I Have A Check Engine Problem 2000 Mazda 626 Es/lx by ericok(m): 7:57pm On Mar 01, 2009
"Check Engine" may spell so many things. It could be an engine problem or an electrical problem. We may not be able to proffer the best solution to your problems via this medium. Everybody is going to make suggestions based on what he feels. And don't forget that some other people will use this opportunity to advertise any kind of product in the name of trying to resolve your problem.

I think the first thing you need to do is to take the car to a good electrician ("rewire" in local palance) for him to look at it.

When I bought my Camry 2000 model it had the same problem. I complained to the car dealer who informed me that it was going to be ok after cleaning the battery head. That I did but the problem was not resolved.

I had to take the car to an electrician (rewire) who discovered that it was an electrical problem and it was resolved there and then. Guess how much I spent? N1,500.00.

It's after you have exhausted this possibility that you can try a good mechanic.

The problem we have here is that we use trial and error method as most of our mechanics and technicians do not have the knowledge and experience to work on modern cars.

Family / Re: Go On Hiv Test With Fiancee/fiance B4 Or After Marriage? by ericok(m): 4:21pm On Dec 21, 2008
It is absolutely necessary to carry out the necessary test before marriage or any serious relationship. Asking your partner questions about her health status is not enough. Both of you should go to the lab together.

If you are wiser and have had reckless sexual behaviour in the past, the best you can do is to secretly go for the test and confirm your status before requesting your partner to accompany you.

Don't it (unprotected) if you have not done that test!!!!!!!

Family / Re: My Wife Gave Out My Son To Another Man! WHAT should I do by ericok(m): 5:35am On Nov 18, 2008
Austine, There is need to cater for your son.  But before you do that, it is my candid advise that you get a real wife.  Somebody to love and cherish and who will do likewise.  This advice stems from the fact that your former wife intends to come back and will stop at nothing until she does that.  If you replace her; then there will not be any room for you to think of taking her back.
Please brother, get a wife first before thinking of taking your son back.

Romance / Re: My Wife Midnight Call by ericok(m): 8:32pm On Nov 17, 2008
There is nothing wrong with midnight calls if it's done once in a while. Receiving calls from the same guy on a number of occasion and the text message leaves more to be desired. Since you have discussed with your wife and she claimed that the person is a 'friend'; kindly take her word. Trust is paramount in a relationship. However, please don't trust blindly.

You can have a heart to heart discussion with your wife and tell her how much you dislike such calls and I believe if she is sensible and doesn't truly have anything to do with the guy, she will desist from making/receiving mid night calls.
Religion / Re: Roman Catholic Is Not A Church, But A Modernised Way Of Idolatry? by ericok(m): 1:46am On Oct 14, 2008
The problem is that some people argue just for the mere fact that they want to argue not because they possess superior knowledge. However, issues bothering on the Catholic Church can "never" be explained any better to some people because they already have a mindset. For such people no amount of explanation will make them change their minds about their opinions.
Religion / Re: Roman Catholic Is Not A Church, But A Modernised Way Of Idolatry? by ericok(m): 12:39am On Oct 14, 2008
Lady, I must say that I appreciate the way you do justice to most of the issues raised so far. It simply proves that you are living the faith.

Please keep it up.

Can somebody tell me if we glorify God with all these arguments? From the ongoing, nobody seem to be interested in any other person's line of reasoning. Everybody holds firm to his believe and nobody is willing to shift grounds.

Religion / Re: Catholics And Confession by ericok(m): 1:30am On Sep 28, 2008
Isn't it funny the way we talk about God, bible and the interpretation of the bible.  From the foregoing, it simply shows that the people attacking the Catholic Church mode of confession are either ignorant of the bible or interprete the bible to suit themselves.  May I state here that priests are the representatives of God and God has already granted them right to forgive sins.

If you feel offended by this, I am sorry about it, but it doesn't change my believe.
