In essence, the conflict that exists today is no more than an old-style struggle for power, once again presented to mankind in semi religious trappings. The difference is that, this time, the development of atomic power has imbued the struggle with a ghostly character; for both parties know and admit that, should the quarrel deteriorate into actual war, mankind is doomed. Despite this knowledge, statesmen in responsible positions on both sides continue to employ the well-known technique of seeking to intimidate and demoralize the opponent by marshaling superior military strength. They do so even though such a policy entails the risk of war and doom. Not one statesman in a position of responsibility has dared to pursue the only course that holds out any promise of peace, the course of supranational security, since for a statesman to follow such a course would be tantamount to political suicide. |

Almost everyone has a warped idea of God and a twisted reason for serving him.In the underdeveloped countries like Nigeria were poverty is at gargantuan levels, God is mostly seen only in the light of a magnanimous provider. Therefore, most people who serve God were poverty holds sway like in naija, serve him mostly because they need to be liberated from their woes. Most are not genuine but are only forced to serve God because of the many hydra headed problems be-deviling them. That is the reason why the Nigerian christian uses terms like"my year of prosperity", 'on eagles wings", divine restoration, etc .Each of these cliches connotes a great desperation for materialism. The developed world in the west also, have a skewed idea of God. To them, they don't need him because they think they have everything going for them. This is why there is a general spread of aggressive secularism in western nations, and the God concept now appears vanishingly small in the developed worlds. They too see God as a problem solver, and since they have most of their problems solved, they also think they don't need him.But both are wrong, God shouldn't be served for material gains, but should be worshiped genuinely and not for what he can give........... ........It is no trade by barter. |

The nation’s space programme is now in jeopardy, owing to power play which has consumed the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, NIGCOMSAT Limited, from its parent body, the National Space Research and Development Agency , NASRDA with headquarters in Abuja. The loan that was used in building the ill-fated NigComSat-1 which developed problems in the orbit is yet to be repaid with the interest pilling up even as the Chinese had replaced the object with NigGComSat 111. Top officials of the agency were reluctant to speak with Saturday Vanguard on the matter as who volunteered information preferred anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter. However, as the rivalry peaks, NIGCOMSAT is currently in the process of transforming itself from its original status as a private limited company to market the nation’s first satellite, NIGCOMSAT 1, bandwidth, into another space agency. The Bill for the establishment of the Nigerian Communications satellite Corporation is currently before the National Assembly. What can you say about our own country Nigeria?

The republicans lost the presidential ticket because of their inability to recognize the changing demographics in the American polity.Over the last decade or so, there has been a paradigm shift to more moderate views, as against the hard lined far right views which the republicans are known for. Most of the young voters seemed to have found their views outdated, and in this age where there is a lot of clamor for more human rights and freedom, it should have been expected that they would loose this election. This election was a tightly and keenly contested one, and kudos should be given to both men for having the patience to get to the end of this marathon. |
