mcro: Honestly, I don’t know where to start. Having played the lottery thing as a single for about 3 times without success, I was no longer motivated to try it. But my wife was unrelenting. She nagged and cajoled and entreated me and I finally capitulated but with a proviso: she must foot the bills, my transport fares inclusive. Off we went on circa Oct 28, 2012, just a few days to the deadline of the application. I then forgot all about it.
On May 1, my wife called me to inform me that I have won the visa lottery for 2014. It was like a dream. I checked by myself and confirmed it. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Travelling abroad to further my education has always been my desire, but the financial rigours involved coupled with the inherent uncertainty in granting of the visa were most discouraging. And here is an opportunity, not only to study but also to live and raise a family, God is indeed the Lord that answereth by fire. May the Lord continue to bless our women. I owe the visas to my wife.
To cut the long story short, we set out by 6:30 am to meet an appointment for 10am. Traffic wasn’t that terrible and we still had time to settle down despite having hitches about locating the car park.
We were ushered in by 9:30 am. All the security checks were observed and the payment was made. I witnessed @dahunsiolajide predicament of not having enough dollar to make his payment and I was happy when a dude bailed him out.
Window 16 used to be a dreaded window for the DV 2013 Winners with a much dreaded white woman giving people the scare of their lives with more denials than all other COs combined. But the window is now an oasis and was occupied by an elderly white man who was ‘dishing out’ the visas like ‘pure water’. May God bless him.
By the powers of prayer, after a protracted wait our number finally bleeped at Window 16. Oath-taking and fingerprinting done, the interview itself was less than 2 minutes. Here we go.
co: (looking at our baby) how old is she?
Me: sorry, it’s a he not a she.
co: (looking at the baby’s form in his hand) oh sorry, I didn’t see the second name. so how old is he?
we: three months and twenty days.
Co: what is ur highest level of education.
Me: MSc in xxxxxxx.
Co: (looking at my form in his hands) in xxxxxx yyyyyyy University.
Me: yes and that was where I had my first degree too.
Co: for how long have u known your wife?
Me: for nine years.
Co: when did you propose marriage to her.
Me: last year January during her birthday.
Co: why did it take u dt long?
Me: we were both undergraduate when we first met. It was when I was when I started working we now thought of marriage.
(All the while, he was holding two sheets of paper and now stretching them forth)
Co: ok. You will go to this address….. (for my mind I thought he wanted to say ‘to continue the interview’)
Co: (continue) there, you will pick your visas which will be ready by next week.
(If he had not added that somebody could collect the visa on our behalf I would have assumed I did not hear him well).
Co: congratulations and welcome to America.
We: thank you and God bless you.
My wife and my baby were even by my side throughout the interview. The Co did not tell her to go and sit down in order to interview me alone.
LESSON LEARNT.
1. It is not of him that wills, but of God that shows mercy. Having seen what many are doing to travel abroad by all means and having considered that I never made any spirited effort to consider travelling seriously despite that being my desire, then I have come to the conclusion that only what He wills matter, not my will.
2. By patience possess your soul. I was almost worry when I did not see my 2nl having sent my forms since early June and the receipt acknowledge on June 11. I was current in October but did not receive my 2nl until 3rd week of Oct. So to those waiting for 2nl, it will come. No one on DV 2013 thread was not called for his interview. Urs will not be an exception.
3. Preparation. Opportunity always favours the man who is prepared. Those waiting for their interview should start by reading this thread from the beginning. I started to read DV 2013 when it was around 500 posts. But I later had to go back to the beginning. I regretted I didn’t start that earlier. At least DHL wouldn’t have ‘chopped’ my money. So please if you still have the time, read some of the posts in DV 2013 thread too. You will be surprised at the guru that lies within you.
4. Prayer. The efficacy of prayer cannot be overemphasized. If there was one thing that made my interview very simple, I believed it was prayer. Since I got to know I won in May, I have set aside a day in the week to fast and pray for favour and success in the interview. Despite my deep and intense preparation for academic questions across all levels and marital-based interview, God took all the glory; no question from my preparation was asked.
Finally never stop believing. Your own miracle is on the way.
My special appreciation goes to Obatide, Madu77, G2Glory, kevwe flex, seubis, femishow, ItyRoyal and all others that have been contributing on this thread. May you never lose your own reward.
Also of the DV 2013 thread, my appreciation goes to Temmytanny, Adesojiaderemi, Jejelady, Roodboy, Gentiger, Genlion, Brightmon, Godhelpmeoooo, Leripa, obamaobama, Bussyme, Kemzone 2003, and a host of others too numerous to mention, you guys are the bomb. You won the visa for me a long time ago. May God continue to bless you in the White man’s land.
Addendum:
I am really sorry for this long epistle, I cannot just keep the joy to myself anymore. For as many that are yet to go for their interview, you will experience this joy that fills my heart and soul. Thank you and God bless.

Congratulations big time. The Lord almighty shall perfect everything to complete your relocation. May you enjoy divine favour & open doors i Jesus name.

To other forumities, trust in the Lord, none of us shall miss out in Jesus name, just let exercise a little patient and it shall come expediently.

@G2Glory/Obatide: i'm confused about something....currently exchange rate is at about N172 to a dollar are you saying that if one goes with naira their exchange rate is still at N165 to a dollar or does it fluctuate according to market forces

My brother, sorry for the mix-up. It was that rate when i did mine. Like other forumities mentioned that they have fixed or stable exchange rate at the embassy. I think it make more sense to do it at the embassy with the naira equivalent.

dahunsiolajide: To God be the Glory , We were interviewed yestarday and the consula approved our visa , this will be picked up in two days time . Let me use this medium to thank Each and everyone Known and unknown in this forum , God will always intervened in your issue.
I will like to point out few things for those preparing for the interview so that you will not fall into the error i almost fall into . I am a passive member of the forum , i have enjoyed and love all the contribution , infact this is my second home once am of KICC website . the a day to my our interview I had Naira with me to pay for my family and myself , but i was confused either to Go for interview with Naira or Dollars Denomination. So i dashed to the embassy since my office in VI and i have moved my family to a nearby hotel , meet only the security and ask him the denomination i can pay with but the security guy said this is Nigeria and it should be in naira so I left , on getting back to hotel my wife said we should contact a family friend in Texas who just won and left last year , so they advice that we should go with dollar because their conversion rate will be in black market rate and that is 172 to a dollar . I called aboki and change all the money to $ and all i need is 1320, for family of 4 and i got 1300 for abok he does not have $20 cause its always scarce . so i decided to go for interview that i will balance the $20 with naira denomination .
At the consulate office where am to pay the cashier object that i cannot pay with both denomination but One . Either naira or dollar not both I pleaded and pleaded but she told me they are not her money and there is nothing she could do than for me to pay for 3 and comeback to pay for 1 later , and i know our visa may not be granted since the payment is not completed . so i started looking around in the office there and meet security but no luck . To God be the Glory , one guy came to pay and he pays in Dollar, i approach him and he said i gave her dollars and she is meant to give me change in Dollar if she give me my change in dollar i will sell you 20 but if she gives naira am sorry because i am press for time . so i pray that God should help me because the logistics of Coming back to complete the visa process and you may not have the same prefference of the first appearance . so the-same lady came and give the guy $20 and he sold it dollar to me that is how i am able to complete the payment and i waited for the interview which only lasted for 2mins and i was give the the noble 2 papers for my pickup and USIC

to God be the Glory if that guy was not there at that time , .......

Congratulations. Fellow forumities please take a lesson from his own.

I passionately want to beg you ALL to please ensure you verify/validate the US dollar from the Aboki at the bank, so as to avoid been manipulated with fake ones. Going with US dollar saves you the stress of exchange rate flunctuation & it's handful - i.e easy to move around with.

If you are going with US dollar, do not accept any dollar earlier than 2006. I wish you all the best in your forthcoming interview

Atandaishola794: @ekwynox Congrats on your visa approval. It seems there is problem opening that account; everyone complains about it. If you have someone in US tell him/her to do it for you. Other contributions frm members pls.

Pls read my earlier posting & the recommendation from DV 2013. The website(https://elis.uscis.dhs.gov or www.uscis.gov/immigrantfee) is okay but creating the USCIS account is the major challenge and based on what DV2013 mentioned, it might have to do with our computer 'IP' address.

If you are using your own computer it was recommended that you can download the software called tor & the problem persist you may need to get someone in USA to create that account for you.

For those that have received their visas, congratulations. If you know you are going to New york, say "Aiyeee!"
I don't still understand this USCIS of a thing. Went to the site but couldn't get the link for immigrant fee payment. Gurus in the house should help me.

Please read previous posting as detail below:

G2Glory: USCIS PAYMENT & ELIS ACCOUNT CREATION: Pls take note, this might apply to you in nearest future.

Preamble:
G2Glory: The payment of USCIS immigrant fee of $165 is a MUST for those issued visa from February 2013 & this effect payment before immigrant leave for USA. To make payment through credit/debit card, it requires opening ELIS account ((https://elis.uscis.dhs.gov) or (www.uscis.gov)) before making online payment.

Issue/Challenge:
I had tried creating this ELIS account on several occassions but alway encountered repeated challenge on step 4 "Choose Security Preference", any time i clicked next button to take me to next page to enter the Personal Identity Question, it just came up with an error message (ERROR: Online access to your account has been revoked. Your account is now locked. The maximum number of unsuccessful attempts (3x) has been reached. Due to security reasons, your account has been locked.

I need someone in the house that can be of help most especially those people that did pay for their USCIS immigrant fee. or is there other way to make this payment. - Urgent answer pls.

Sorry my brother, many people had also encountered dis problem b4 it was due to IP address issue.... there 2 things involve now as solution 1st: use another email address and start from d scratch still doesn't work?
2nd: if u are using ur own system, download and install browser called" tor browser" and use it to create ur account from d beginning using diff email address.....or 3rd find someone to help u create ur account over here in US on ur behalf

Useful information for those planning to pay their USCIS Fee. After we made several attempt, we settled for the 3rd option.

For those that have gotten their visa approved, i want to indulge you to start this process on time so you will have enough time to resolve any challenges. Wishing everyone in the house all the best in Jesus name as you proceed to the next level in the realization of your America dream.

Our prayers are with everyone in the house

ekwynox: Sorry this is coming very late but it is because of some exigencies.
My visa was approved yesterday 3rd December. My interview time was 10am.
I arrived at the embassy around 9.15am. One of the policemen on duty at the gate almost got me off my foot when I asked the way i should into the embassy. he told me i was already late but i should go and try my luck. On getting to the gate, the attendant there told me that those for 10am appointment are told to wait outside until 9.30am. This gave me a big relief. So before you ask questions, try to ask a reliable source to avoid unnecessary panic. At 9.30am, we were ushered in under tight security one after the other. The attendant collected my appointment letter and tore off the front page, gave back the remaining pages to me. She also gave me a blue card and some papers for payment. Please, try and keep those papers intact. They will ask for it later. From that point, i passed through four security gate, the last one being an automated scanner. Please avoid coming to the embassy with powder, liquids, make-ups, snacks, metal objects and phones because you won't be allowed to take them in and disposing of such may cause you some panic. I dropped my phones and other gadgets at home before coming. At the last door, i was issued a number B429. After some time, my name was called and i was asked to go and make payments before the submission of documents. After that, my documents were submitted and then waited for the interview proper.
the interview came around past eleven or some minutes before twelve.
Before the interview, i saw the CO, a beautiful black lady, scrutinizing my degree certificate, he even called another CO to help him do that, the man immediately confirmed to him that the seal is for authentication. I think that was because my certificate has some seals from the federal ministry of education, abuja, when i intended going to austria for my masters. Not quite long, my number beeped at that window and the interview went thus:
CO: Good morning
Me: Good morning
CO: Are you blah blah?
Me: yes
CO: Do you swear to say the truth
Mes: Yes, yes
CO; ok, sign this form
Me: signed
CO: i want to take your fingerprints
Me: i obliged
CO: have you traveled out of Nigeria before? (I know it was because of the seal on all my certificates from the ministry that made her ask that)
Me: No, i haven't
CO: cool, what is your highest level of education
Me: University degree in blah blah blah
CO: sorry please, started discussing with another CO, after some time, he called the short form of my first name, nonso. at that point, i suspected she is ibo. when did you finish your university education?
Me: 2011
CO: Have you done your NYSC?
Me: yes
CO: where?
Me: blah blah blah
CO: What was your primary assignment?
Me: Teaching
CO: what did you teach?
Me: biology and chemistry
CO: what was the age of your students?
Me: smiles, say between 15 - 18 years, the normal age of ss3 students
CO: good. what are you doing now?
Me: blah blah blah
CO: where?
Me: blah blah blah
CO: Are you married?
Me: No, of course, am single
CO: have you any kid?
Me: smiles, not all
CO: you have satisfied me, you visa has been approved. brought two white papers and started explaining about how to pay USCIS fee and how to pick up visa. I was happy, though i was listening to her but happiness couldn't allow me to hear her well unlike when she was interviewing me.

So, my fellow forumites help me thank God. I equally pray that the God that did it for me will do so for all of you. the VISA is all yours in the mighty name of JESUS! Amen.

Congratulations all the way. It shall be permanent. My advice is for those that have been granted visa is to start working on how process their transcript for evaluation in USA before you travel.

Trust me, it might take longer than you expected & you to get it push very well otherwise it might become a nightmare if travel & expect someone to handle it for you.

Nigeria will be a nice idea as we all have different destinations in USA. Is it allow here to fix the date & venue on this forum?

or do we need to network through other means to achieve that? - Just to ensure we do not breach the set rules.

Did they collect your original WAEC result & not return it back to you? Ours was returned except for NPC attestation & police report that was collected. Please be sure and clarify.

At visa collection, you will only be given your international passport(s) & brown envelope(s) that you must not open.

Darhmee: Hi guys.. so here was how it started.. I did the visa lottery for myself as the principal and my mom as the principal back then. So when my mom won, the only the only thing i have was the confirmation number.. i wasnt sure if i registered my dad and my siblings with her but with faith, we continued the processing. My dad didn't want to go with us because he has businesses he is running here in NIgeria and also, my older brother is over-aged. So, i and my mom decided to do the processing for just the both of us.
However, because of the rareness of our case, people said we will be turned down, they said we will be rejected bla bla but i and mom paid them no listening ears.. That really helped!

So today, our interview was for 7am, we got there 5:45am, and at about 6:15, we were told to line up, we did security checks, people's powder, phones, sharp objects, liquid, charger, containers were disposed..(please do not bring any of these with u to the embassy, its an lot of trouble finding how to dispose them).

So at about 8am, we were inside the hall, my mom paid for the both of us and when it was time for submission of document, the woman in charge told my mom to go out and take another passport photograph because the one she has with her was with a blue background. So my mom went out and the cheapest rate she could find for 6 passport photograph was N2000!! Can u imagine?!.

So she brought the passport and while we were submitting our document, the woman asked why my dad wasnt included in the first submission and my mom said it was because he wasn't interested, the woman shook her head! Right there, i had thought we would be rejected.

So at about 10:15, our number beeped on window 17.. the CO was a beautiful and young black American
She told us to swear, took our fingerprints and then the conversation below ensued
CO: what is ur name ma'am
My Mom: xxxx
CO: Did u fill the lottery form urself
MM: Yes
CO: So why is ur sister here with you:
MM: She is not my sister, she is my daughter ((we both laughed)
CO: OMG.. Im so sorry.. Wow madam.. u look so young and she is gorgeous
MM and I: Thank you, u look beautiful too
CO:. Who is philip and why is he not going with u
MM.. he is my husband and bla bla
CO: what is your highest level of education
MM.. bla bla
So she excused herself for a minute, came back, typed some things into the computer, gave us 2 sheets of paper.. (i was already jumping by then lol). She then said, your visa has been approved, pick up this this this that.. i wasnt listening anymore cheesy

So guys im not gonna lie to you, i and my mom prayed and fasted for days before attending that interview.. we even went to a 7 nights vigil that ended last SUnday.. If not for prayers and God's favour, we wopuld have been denied. Please lets prepare ourselves and pray to the God/gods we believe in.

I thank every member of this page.. i dont want to mention names cos i appreciate you ALL.. God bless and i wish the people who are yet to go for their interview SUCCESS SUCESS SUCESS..

Cheers!

PS: Malcom 28 and ayodim.. big congrats to your family.. we were at the embassy the same time, can you describe yourselves? i was the lady with the cream blazer and my mom is the one with the african fabric jacket smiley

Congratulation all the way. It's Lord's doing & marvelous in our eyes.

Most DV interviews conducted were scheduled for 7am. I do believe it's not a matter of whether 7am or 10am - It's all about God's favour.

If your is schedule for 10am, you have equal chance as those schedule for 7am, just get prepare & trust in GOD. Not of he that willeth or he that runneth but of the Lord God that showeth mercy.

Atandaishola794: @ayodim Congrats once more. May your luck and success infect the rest of us IJN. Amen. Pls what was your mode of dressing? Thanks.

There is no hard rule to the mode of dressing, just be neat, presentable & wear something that you are comfortable with.

On the day of our interview, we just wore our normal office dresses with children putting on simple dress. Except for my son that wore a bow tie because it was his birthday. (The visa was a birthday present for our family)

If you are not use to tie pls forget that, it is not going give you any added advantage. For ladies, avoid any shoe that can cause trip or fall or disturbing/irritating sound when you walk around.

Dress smart, Cute & Safe. GOD bless you ALL

ayodim: I have been following this thread from the begining as a guest. My family visa has been approved this morning. We got to the embassy at 5:30am , went through all security checks and finally entered the hall some minutes before 8,made payment and waited to be called. Our number was finally called where a beautiful black lady welcomed us with a smile. She asked us to thumb print and take oaths. Then she askedthe following questions:
1. What do you do in Nigeria?
2. What's your highest education level?
3. Is this your only child?
4. What type of wedding did u have?
5. Do u have family phorographs?
She took the photographs and said"u have a lot of family pictures
Then she said " congratulations your visa has been approved" and gave us two forms for visa pick up.

My advise for is that you should dress the way you want to be addressed and be bold (look straight with smiles). Most importantly, PRAY a lot. The visa is yours.

Finally, I want to thank all forumites for all questions and answers shared so far,it was really helpful. God bless you all

Congratulations, all DV 2014 selectees shall be successful in Jesus name. A thought just came to my mind - Does make sense if we can have a kind of Monthly or per adventure quarterly meeting (Zonal) where we can see to it that we shared our ideas & exprience freely to prepare people for their interview and even leverage on the landing exprience of the other forumities that already travelled.

I see a situation where all DV 2014 selectees get their visa approved by the grace of God almighty. We shall make it & rejoice.

Malcolm28: Hi Forumites, I just came out of the embassy. My family's visa has been approved. Thanks everyone for the show of support. I will give a detailed account of my experience later. Gracias!!!

Congratulations my brother. God will definite perfect what He has started in Jesus name.

For others, your testimony shall surely come & we shall celebrate everyone that was selected for DV 2014.

I have a suggestion & if we don't mind. Can we ensure we keep close contact & extend our discussion to post-visa issuance.

We need to get connected more even after visa has been issued. In term of useful advice to help in logistics arrangement to USA. Getting connected with those forumities that already travelled.

Six (6) months is all needed to leave the onshore of Nigeria & relocating to USA will definitely have its associated challenges. It will be good to learn from others & not necessary re-inventing the will.

rantileye: Please a friend asked a question that i cant answer directly, the questions is can LAMINATED DOCUMENT be honored at the embassy. Such as NPC certificate and WAEC result.

Absolutely YES . All my family documents are laminated & no embassy ever raised objection to it. It is a way of protecting & preserving it.

dixon4u: Hello Fellow nairalander, please do i need to make police report for dependants too and secondly what could be the highest level of education for and HND holder? University degree or what?

Your dependant that is above 16 years must obtain his/her police report (Each applicant aged 16 years or older must submit police certificates to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at your interview).- This is to be taken along on the day of interview & not to be sent to KCC pls.

Secondly: HND is considered a university degree

Malcolm28: Hello Forumites, those of you who have gone for interview with kids, where you allowed into the embassy with baby foods, drinks etc? Asking cos its a concern for me as my kids may begin to act up in hunger if I cannot take baby food and drinks in for them. Urgent reply needed please.
.

You may be allowed to go in with snacks for your children. I saw one little girl eating snack in the hall. Advisably, get a light meal for the children. I made my children to take tea & slice of bread before entering the hall. We were out by 9.15am. Is like there are preference for family with children.

Pls don't forget to offload yourself of any metallic objects & those things that are forbidden. I wish you all the best & your is sure in Jesus name.

Congratulations & Rejoice.
Education / UNILAG TRANSCRIPT COLLECTIONS - Challenges, Issues & Way Forward by G2Glory(m): 1:43pm On Dec 02, 2013
Forumities,

The collection of my Undergraduate & Postgraduate Transcripts have turned to serious nightmare. I could not ascertain if the transcropts were even processed & sent to designated location. I did apply about a year ago to be sent oversea & there was no way to affirm that.

All efforts reaching out to the the school through the so-called direct lines were not successful. You are not expected to come physicaly without any invitation.

Is there anybody inhouse that can attest to the fact he/she requested for the transcript online through this 'www.unilag.edu.ng-transcript' and is sure that was delivered successfully.

Any useful help will be appreciated. All the stipulated fee with postage fully paid.

Travel / Re: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by G2Glory(m): 12:59pm On Nov 29, 2013
Preamble:
I don't really know if this question is applicable - if not pls pardon me:

After obtaining our visa, the next requirement according to (www.uscis.gov/immigrant fee) is to:

The payment of USCIS immigrant fee of $165 which is a MUST for those issued visa from February 2013 & this payment must be done before immigrant leave for USA. To make payment through credit/debit card, it requires opening ELIS account ((https://elis.uscis.dhs.gov) or (www.uscis.gov)) before making online payment.

Issue/Challenge:
I had tried creating this ELIS account on several occasions on my PC but always encountered repeated challenge on step 4 "Choose Security Preference", any time i clicked next button to take me to next page to enter the Personal Identity Question, it just came up with an error message (ERROR: Online access to your account has been revoked. Your account is now locked. The maximum number of unsuccessful attempts (3x) has been reached. Due to security reasons, your account has been locked.

I just want to know if there is any other means of paying the fee. Some forumities mentioned it might be due to IP address. Does it mean that IP address from Nigeria are prevented from completing the process? I even tried on my IPAD it was the same challenge.

I am need of your advice please.

Outstandingsand: Goodmorning house, Please house do they take ATM CARD @ the embassy for visa processing fee?

I will advice you go there with your cash (preferable US dollar). It's handy & comfortable to move around with, you never can tell if there occur network failure & unable to do your transction with your ATM card.

For those that will like to change their Naira to US dollar, pls beware of those money changer so as not to give you fake US dollar. What i did was to take him to the bank (GTB), withdrew the cash & firstly confirm the US dollar with Banker before collecting it from him.

Also note that the US dollar you will collect must not be earlier than 2006 (i.e 2006 & 2009) are only acceptable. I cannot authenticate this but that was what a banker told me & i insisted on that before doing the exchange.
