Canon 1251 Abstinence from eating meat or another food according to the prescriptions of the conference of bishops is to be observed on Fridays throughout the year unless they are solemnities; abstinence and fast are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and on the Friday of the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Canon 1252 All persons who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the law of fast up to the beginning of their sixtieth year. Nevertheless, pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance.

Abstinence The law of abstinence requires a Catholic 14 years of age until death to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday. Meat is considered to be the flesh and organs of mammals and fowl. Moral theologians have traditionally considered this also to forbid soups or gravies made from them. Salt and freshwater species of fish, amphibians, reptiles and shellfish are permitted, as are animal-derived products such as gelatin, butter, cheese and eggs, which do not have any meat taste.

On the Fridays outside of Lent the U.S. bishops conference obtained the permission of the Holy See for Catholics in the US to substitute a penitential, or even a charitable, practice of their own choosing. Since this was not stated as binding under pain of sin, not to do so on a single occasion would not in itself be sinful. However, since penance is a divine command, the general refusal to do penance is certainly gravely sinful. It's three in one but they have their different roles aiming at achieving one goal ! Now since by the grace of God we have seen or already know that God the FATHER THE SON AND THE HOLLY SPIRIT IS ONE,let's just take a little highlight of their duties !
1.God the Father-HE has planned redemption
2.The son (Jesus has accomplished redemption. This wonderful redemption is outside ourselves and available to us if we repent of our sin
and turn back to Christ in faith !
3.But it is the unique and special role of the Holy Spirit to apply the Father's plan and the Son's accomplishment of it to our hearts !
From the above,we can see that the holy spirit plays the role of bringing both the father's plans and the son's accomplishment to our hearts !
Now,if we blaspheme the father which most of us do every now and then,there is still hope ! If we blaspheme the son,there may still be hope according to what Jesus says in the book of Mathew 12:32 ''And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come.''
From the above we have seen that even if you sin against Jesus,the son of man,you can still be forgiven !
The big question is ;'what is the sin against the holy spirit and why can't i be forgiven here on earth and after ?

And if we do not ask for forgiveness becos we can't as a result of the fact that we have grieved the holy spirit and he has decided to let us be,how then can we be forgiven? Forgiveness can never be possible becos the one who is supposed to convict us and bring us to repentance for us to be forgiven has far long left us to ourselves !
