Good day house, any F1 students that wants to be a US citizen via the military please go the nearest army recruitment office near you and apply for the mavni program asap. Major requirements: 2 years stay in USA on F1, F2, H1B e.t.c. status ànd fluency in Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba. The program was opened yesterday and only 1000 slots are available. Please hurry and grab your copy now. Find out more from Google or join the mavni Facebook page. Thanks and appreciates.

Note
This information strictly beneficial to married US graduates from Nigeria on opt, who don't have job that can file and don't wish to divorce to get citizenship. It is another option for those intending to stay back in USA. if you have any worries or concern talk to a army recruiter knowledgeable in MAVNI or join MAVNI on Facebook. please don't listen to all these JJCs (Nnamdi and Bikey) that just make comments on anything without doing proper research.

This is my way of giving back to a forum that helped me 4 years ago.

Because they set the monthly payment (auto-pay) to finish the exact duration but sometimes I exhaust the minutes before the month duration ends. Also, tmobile gives problems with wellfargo debit card. I've tried that in the past but I changed back to refilling through voucher which saves too long story.
@ imperiouxx do they charge tax on the voucher? Please let me know cos I wan reup asap. How far with your PhD runs?

GboyegaD: For those who are seeking a sample of letter to a professor / department, here is a draft to guide you:

I am writing to inquire more about admission into the **** program in ********* offered by your university.
I am a **** year old Nigerian and would love to move into your ****** program in ********** by Fall 2013.
I hold a ***** degree in ***** from ********, Nigeria at ******* level.
I would like to state that reading through your departmental webpage was a wonderful experience and an eye opener to my further studies. Your ******* areas of research fits into mine and would help build my desired career in ********. Also, your faculty profile reveals a department that houses experts in their fields of research which implies an institution where an inquisitive mind like mine will be well groomed.
I have read through some departmental and university profiles and none can compare to yours in terms of the program curriculum as it fits my expectations and, I seek clarifications on the following:
1. **********
2. **********
I would like to know my chances to be offered admission directly into this program and would also like to know the minimum / average GRE scores if required and if I would be exempted from TOEFL having had all my education taught in English Language.
Attached is a copy of my transcripts for your perusal.
As for funding, I am currently saving towards graduate school however, I have not been able to save enough and would love to know the possibility of being shortlisted for the various graduate funding available and also, the possibility of getting students loan.
Finally, what semesters does the department admit students into the **** program?

Regards,

@ Gboyega God go bless you you too much.....

GboyegaD:

Yes you can and it takes a maximum of 30days. It is recommended you apply online. Kindly visit the Los Angeles Canadian Consular webpage for more information. Should you need more clarification, do not hesitate to ask. The good thing about it is that it isn't stressful a bit. Just be crystal clear in your letter of intent on why Canada and I can assure you that you will get it. What school are you heading to now? Hope you got some funding too.
@ Gboyega please send me a copy of letter of intent and letter to prof. Bros I just started the process. Still looking for a prof to accept me o.

GboyegaD:

I think unlike the US Study Visa, you can apply for the Canadian study Permit from within Canada. What are you doing in the US? If you are studying, then you are fine.
bros GboyegaD I am on F1 visa in us already round up my msc but canada has always been on my mind. How did you do your, you use to be on F1

@Karioska, you may refer to http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/is-there-any-chance-to-change-visitor-visa-into-study-permit-t90317.0.html, it was almost turning to a bout debating this question, but I would go with iwinosajack https://www.nairaland.com/1229480/travelling-canada-part-4/227#17310795.
You might want to email question@cic.gc.ca, hoping to get some response or call CIC @1-888-242‑2100, you

@ bumdish I read the blog, all the comments were just mere opinion, I will like to know if anyone has tried it. I am presently on F1 visa in the USA. Please I still need comments on this matter. Maybe I should have applied to canada staight instead of coming to the us.

Shadams: #Canada PhD: my thoughts!

Meanwhile for many silent observers and fact seekers, this may be useful. I thought I could help some folks with info on how to get a supervisor for doctorate, based on my own experience, which, by the way, is not peculiar.

Let me start on the note that, like many of you, I am a Christian who believes in God's will. He actually inspired my every step, and you will need him all the way, till u get to Canada.

Having said that, I ought to let u know that PhDs in Canada are fully funded for the first four years, and it is usually between 4-6yrs. With this in mind, you could appreciate what lies ahead of you in terms of the need for persistence, tact and strategy.

Identify which Canadian schools u want. I would counsel you to look to areas that are not very populated. Those are the kinds of places where u get admission easily. Saskatoon (with two major public universities- UofRegina and UofSask) is an example. Focussing on top schools like McGill or Toronto is fine too if your results and other documents can withstand the competition. I applied to the Univ of Calgary but was not recommended for admission. I guess I could not convince them my UG and masters degree were directly relevant to the course I had applied for. Watch that too.

Then u would need to read the profile of your intended department, and do a mail to the graduate chair. This email is an enquiry: you want to describe your past and present research, having introduced yourself, then u go on to ask about the possibility of some faculty supervising you. This mail is an intro. It should sell your research brand, ask questions, and it should be short. Try to copy the graduate admin too, or some other person. U could, in addition, do a mail to a faculty whose research areas are similar to yours. One or all of them should reply.

Please have your documents intact, and keep an eye on deadlines. Most, if not all September (Fall) resumptions close around January 7-15 and they are the ones that assure on funding, usually about CAD17-20k. January resumptions might not be fund-guaranteed!

If you do your home work well, you may not even need an agent. I say this with utmost regard for the work of many honest agents out there. Just understand the psyche of our friends abroad and their insistence on merit and excellence.

Don't forget that different folks have diverse experiences, and many would advise from the prism of their own realities. All I have outlined, therefore, are not absolutes, but I believe u could find some of them useful.

I hope you do, (wo)man! All the best.
@ Shadams this is a wonder write, will use it as a mantra for my search for PhD in canada. Please can u email me a copy of the letter to proffessors my email is karioska at yahoo.com. Thanks and appreciates.
