Interested. Please tell me how this works.
Business / Re: Uber Taxi Business Inquiry by laplace(m): 1:55am On Nov 22, 2015
I take Uber a lot due to the nature of my business and on each occasion, I open conversations with the drivers instead of listening to music or radio. I have done commercial transport in Lagos (cabs, taxis, vanagons, etc) and have found these the following as highlights with Uber:

1. UberX (Uber has UberX and UberBlack cars as Class A and Class B kind of) drivers claim they make between N80,000 and N100,000 per week. Uber takes 20% of this as commission and most partners (owners of cars with Uber are called partners) give their drivers 20% so the partner makes 60% as gross. Some partners give targets (usually between N80,000 and N100,000 per week depending on partner) and give performance based commission on a basic salary (Only one driver gave me N10,000 as an indication of basic salary per week).

2. There seem to be some consistency in the numbers they read out as inflows and outflows. Expenses are majorly in fuelling (Some say N14,000 while others say N15,000 or N16,000) and basic monthly servicing. Depending on the age of the car, there might need to be provision for repairs and maintenance.

3. Uber has a list of cars they take and it is wise to consult this list before making the investment. For instance, I discovered that a premium car such as Acura ZDX is not acceptable, Hyundai Ellantra and Hyundai Accent are not acceptable either from what I heard. They only take cars from 2008 or newer. Also, you need to understand car classification before making the investment. While Toyota Venza 2014 may cost as much as N6,000,000, it is classified as UberX and will earn only same fares as Toyota Camry 2009 for N2,000,000 or brand new Nissan Almera 2014 for N2,000,000 or a little more. Here, wisdom is profitable to direct.

4. I am aware of bankers and other employees who work 8 am to 5 pm fully in the office who use their cars for Uber for those 8 hours they are in the office. I believe this is turning a liability into an asset and sounds sane.

5. Your car must have a car tracker. That way you are protected from suspicious drivers and riders.

6. It is possible for drivers to turn off the device (go offline) and make money while using your car and fuel, therefore, you need to be smart and watchful.

7. It LOOKS like a good business now, but there are a lot of questions to be asked.

I am sure we will engage more.

VFS Global at Lekki is the UAE visa representative for Nigeria. However, most travel agencies also process UAE visas for a token.
Travel / Re: Lagos To Accra By Air. . . Please Advise! by laplace(m): 8:55pm On Oct 25, 2015
Ghana is a country of 3 cities/towns - Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi. Accra is the biggest and the commercial nerve centre of Ghana; it's the capital city and most companies have their headquarters (Some companies even have their West African head offices) in Accra. Accra is a saner Lagos but not as sane as Abuja. There's traffic but definitely not as heavy as Lagos' and not as light as Abuja's. There are different districts/areas in Accra and each area comes with its price tag. There are areas such as Cantonments, Dzorwulu (compared to Lagos' Ikoyi or Lekki in terms of price) where many foreigners and expats stay but there are other areas such as Osu, East Legon, Spintex, etc which are affordable. Most Nigerians (especially the students) stay at Osu or East Legon.

Ghanaians have had a lot of experiences with Nigerians so do not be shocked when people adjust themselves when they hear you're a Nigerian but don't fret, you will have opportunities to create the right impression. Be careful with businesses you do and make sure they are legal and clean.

No, I've never heard or seen or read of that before. Most applicants do not appear in person and they do not need any supporting documents. You only submit your passport data page and you get a visa.

Travel / Re: Lagos To Accra By Air. . . Please Advise! by laplace(m): 8:55am On Oct 25, 2015
Different local and regional airlines ply Accra-Lagos-Accra route and your best bets are based on a couple of factors. Some of the airlines are: Arik, Aero Contractors, Medview, Starbow. The most consistent, most reliable and cheapest choice I've found travelling to and fro Accra almost every week in the last 2 years is Medview. However, Arik Air is definitely still one of the best in West Africa. If your purse isn't unlimited and you're looking for value for money and not some aesthetics, fly Medview and you'll be fine for less than N30,000.

For food, Nigerian foods and restaurants are very popular. My best restaurant is D-Den owned by a Nigerian and located beside Stephen Appiah's House on Mensah Wood Street at East Legon, Accra. They serve very good food and deliver also. Each meal costs around 20 GhC. D-Den is also a great place for meetings and relaxation and you'll meet a lot of Nigerians there (including celebs).

For accommodation, Ghanaian hotels are among the most expensive in West Africa and you need to look well before you make a choice. If you've got good money and want a treat, I'll recommend Fiesta Residences at Fifth Avenue, Cantonments (close to the embassies) where they charge $204 per night. Their beds are the best I've slept on and the pool and choice of wine is great. If you want to be closer to the airport, Oak Plaza Hotel on Spintex Road is also a good choice but the facilities are becoming old.

Generally, you'll have a great time in Accra. Ask questions! Lots of Nigerians live in Ghana but most are there for the wrong reasons so be aware of stereotypes. I wish you a great time

Please what documents am I expected to take along to the airport when re-using a multiple entry visa? Do I need any invitation letter, hotel reservation, self intro letter, introduction from company, etc?

Thanks guys, for all the educative posts. Please is there any stipulated number of days for which my SA visa must be valid before I'm allowed entry into SA? I got a 3-month multiple entry in November and travelled. I got another 3-month multiple entry visa in March and travelled but I have a meeting in May during which my visa will still be valid. I heard that sometimes they insist it must be valid for 1 month or more before I am allowed entry,

I salute your unwavering courage and unparalleled patriotism. Nigerians are very proud of you for the selfless service you rendered to our fatherland. We will remember all of you in our folk lores as generals; who lived in the dens of lions and defended Nigeria. We will tell generations to come of April 9, April 16 and April 26; and encourage them to tell their children and children's children. As we tell the stories with tears, we will mention you; distringuished members of National Youth Service Corps.
Politics / Re: Dbanj Interviews GEJ On STV by laplace(m): 6:59pm On Mar 18, 2011
The only people who will remain with GEJ are the same people who have ruled us for years. People who have drunk from the well of the national cake for decades and will continue to do same as long as their men remain in power. By this, I am referring to people like Obasanjo, Tony Anenih, Ojo Madukwe, Bode George, etc. The other group are the fools, who will NEVER open their eyes to reality! These are people who have continuosly and consistently suffered under the sledge hammer of PDP, but do not mind to continue suffering as long as PDP wants them to. (I was a part of this group until today). To them, GEJ is a Messiah, and I'm sure he know he's not. He's convinced himself that Nigeria cannot get better under him. This is because he does not know what the real problems of Nigeria are and therefore cannot fix them.
The only agenda PDP has is PDP. And the only symbol of unity to them is the 'Umblerra'.
Politics / Re: Dbanj Interviews GEJ On STV by laplace(m): 6:47pm On Mar 18, 2011
Today, I finally made up my mind to vote and convince everyone around me to vote for BB! I have always thought GEJ had real sense until today. My primary school teacher would not have acted this foolishly. And come to think of it, Ojo Madukwe was telling us yesterday that GEJ will be at the debate. Good riddance to bad rubbish! The future of Nigerian youths is much brighter than to allow these elements ruin it. Vote BB!!! There was B03 and B07. However, BB 2011 is a combo of 2 good heads; who I hope will take us to or at least nearer the honey field than before. As for me, I'm done with GEJ!!!
Politics / Re: Ten (10) Reasons Why You Should Not Vote Goodluck Jonathan In April by laplace(m): 12:50pm On Mar 04, 2011
@RightOn.  I never said Ribadu/Fola Adeola are too young to be president.  They are NOT.  However, elections are not won on the paper or the internet.  Elections are won in the grassroots.  How many Nigerians know Fola Adeola or Ribadu?  Only the educated and elites!  And how many people know GEJ, almost everybody.  How many people know Buhari? Most.  However, his undoing is that the average Nigerian associates majority of our current national issues with military rule, and he was an active part of one of the military regimes!

Does Ribadu seem to want to win the election? NO.  I have not noticed any conscious effort on his part, especially in campaining and canvassing for votes.  I remember very clearly how MKO/Kingibe won in 1993.  They went almost everywhere talking to people groups, ethnic and non-ethnic groups, religious and non-religious groups asking for support and votes.  Was the election free and fair? YES.  Did they win? YES!  Do we see that happening currently? NO, except with GEJ.

People want to be led by people they can relate/associate.  They want to be led by people they know!
Politics / Re: Ten (10) Reasons Why You Should Not Vote Goodluck Jonathan In April by laplace(m): 11:32pm On Mar 03, 2011
Now I understand the meaning of delusion from the Nigerian context.  Most people here were routing for Ribadu until Bakare joinded the BB ticket.  There is a very high level of inconsistency and I undertand why from the religious point of view.

I do not understand why a sane Nigerian will believe that BB will win GEJ.  Ribadu is even out of the question.  I have heard of these same reasons from all BB supporters everywhere; joints, bars, cinema, office, and here too.  There is some level of indoctination by SNG.  Perhaps that was one of the reasons the group was formed.

For me, I took the pains to register as a voter, and I'm taking my time to make my choice.  CPC is no party and Buhari is no individual I can EVER vote as a councilor of my ward, chariman of my local government, governor of my state not to talk of president of my country.  I have too many issues with his person, and I'm sure his governmnet is going to be as clueless, as unpopular, as sectional, as sentimental, as unreasonable, as ethic-biased as most of his followers.  He's a loser on both fronts.  I cannot vote for his party - CPC (The candle will die after the presidential election!) or his person (I just have too may reasons against him).

For Ribadu/Fola Adeola.  They have to wait til 2015.  Ribadu needs to clear his identity and perhaps dissociate from the likes of TNB.  He's a confirmed rogue!

So, who will I vote?  I am a Nigerian, and I think it will be unfair to say PDP or their candidates have done NOTHING in Nigeria or to Nigerians.  Haba! Sentiments apart.  We definitely want better leadership and they've not given us their best, but that doesn't mean they've done nothing.  Who thinks Ribadu or Buhari will be a better leader?  I'm sure they won't.
Family / Re: Igbo Traditional Wedding List by laplace(m): 5:44am On Jan 26, 2011
If this is ture, I think I now understand the reason several of my female Ibo friends are unmarried! This lis is outright nonsense! I hope they won't give me a list like this or anything close. It's sheer wickedness to put a burden of this magnitude on the young man and his family. If this is what they want, they do not expect young guys to marry their daughter. Maybe the expectation is that you must have worked for 10 or more years, be a politician or go and do mone rituals. They don't seem to care about the source of your wealth.

I've heard from a semi reliable source that her bride price will be N250,000 and I'm not complaining. What will make me burst into laughter is if anyone brings this kind of list. Benson and Hedges ko, Rothmans ni. Na me send them come Lagos. You need to respect your in-laws and thank them for raising your bride. You should have been doing that all along, but I think this list could be a big burden.

People should give us an estimated cost of this list? Sure it's in millions!!! Maybe I need to visit the native man in Ihiala first before marriage.

@dayokanu. GEJ does not need to trade words with Atiku. I advise him to tell us and especially the delegates why they need to vote for him.  He does not need to attack people and personalities.  Issue politics is waht we want and not amala politics.

Atiku is bitterly complaining to the acting national chairman.  Final negotiations involving Dimeji Bankole. Darey Art Alade before the incumbent GEJ speaks.
Politics / Re: The Official People's Democratic Party Presidential Primaries Thread by laplace(m): 7:25pm On Jan 13, 2011
Since the convention is just being declared legally open, there was a need to legalise all that had been done and the deputy national chairman just did that.

It's amazing how the PDP stalwarts are seated.  From OBJ to Mark to GEJ's wife to GEJ to Sambo to Sambo's wife.  It is very clear that GEJ has not done enough homework.  Atiku is controlling things from behind the scene with text messages.

Sarah completes her speech, and I really hope that she does not get more than a vote.  This MUST be the last time she contests.
