Crime / Son of new Ambassador to the US,Prof Tunde Adeniran charged wit rape in Maryland by maden9ja(m): 7:04pm On Aug 26, 2009
The woes of Yar'Adua's newly nominated ambassador to the United States, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, have been compounded by rape charges filed against his son, Adedamola Adeniran.

Adedamola, alongside three young men from Baltimore County in Maryland, is now charged with gang-raping three women in the city of Baltimore, according to ABC-2 News, a local Baltimore television station.   Saharareporters spoke by phone with Prof. Adeniran in Nigeria.  He confirmed that Adedamola is his son but feigned ignorance of the rape charges.

Maryland police say on July 27th, two women accepted a ride from two men near North Calvert and West Fayette streets in Downtown Baltimore.  But instead of driving them home, police say the men got on I-95 south, threatened the women with a knife, and drove them to the parking lot of Seton Keough High School in Southwest Baltimore.  There, police say the women were both raped by the two men and a third man who arrived later.

Three men are charged in the case -- 19-year-old Adedamola Adeniran of Halethorpe, along with 19-year-old Anthony Edoror and 20-year-old Opeyemi Adigun, who both live near Woodlawn.

On August 18, an identical attack took place, but the victim was able to identify the licence plate of the car to the police, thereby leading the police to one of the suspects.  He identified the other two men.

Apart from the rape charges against his son, Nigeria's ambassador-in-waiting, who was appointed over five months ago, faces potential hurdles to his clearance to assume his exalted position in Washington DC.  State Department officials told Saharareporters that Professor Adeniran has two wives in the US bearing his name, which effectively makes him a polygamist.  They said it is a grey area that needed to be sorted out before he can be finally cleared.

In addition to rape, Adedamola and the other two men also face charges that include false imprisonment and conspiracy to commit rape.  If convicted, they could spend the rest of their lives in prison.

@Sagamite, You don't have to be harsh on Geominas, he's just laying out his opinion, that's all, last time I checked, a person is still entitled to his own opinion,

this is a forum,

Anyways, @poster, I think it all depends on what u want, as an individual,

i think Debosky gave a good point,

@Doyin 13,

Of course Brent Barry won the slam dunk contest, then he was wit the clippers,  Man u should've seen it,  He did the free throw line dunk,  a la Micheal Jordan,

he was a solid and flashy player in those days, used to play like Jason Williams, but more under control,

@gabe,
man i suggest u start rooting fr another team,  the last time i checked, the signing of Duhon was the only thing they did so far this off season, but the season is stil a couple of months away,  maybe a miracle could happen be4 then,
Sports / Re: Nba Season '08/09 by maden9ja(m): 9:46am On Jul 10, 2008
Yeah, they've put together a very good team this time around, Anything below Gold will be an  underachievement,

I spoke too soon about LA Clippers,  now that Elton has bolted to Philly, I don't like the Clippers' chances in that conference,

but man, Philly suddenly look very good, at least on paper, let's see what they do in the season,  but they're loaded man,  They've got Andre Miller, Iguodala, the promising rookie Young, Brand and Dalembart, they better keep that young exciting player, Louis Williams, kid can flat out ball man,

Baron Davis must be scratching his head very hard right now,

do u  think the Raptors' fortunes will be significantly improved now that they've J. Oneal? I think,  they just ought to get another point guard to back up Calderon,

Personally, I'd rather study Petroleum Engineering than Process Systems, cos i'd want to work in oil and gas industy

Process engineers DO have a place in the industry but not like petroleum engineers, who are the heart of any oil/gas company.
, And I'd prefer to come back to Nigeria to work and I learnt that alot of the multinationals recruit graduates and bring them back home, especially from the schools u mentioned(imperial, Heriot watt), I wonder if they recruit from either Surrey or South bank,
Cos I really want to just secure a job before coming and joining the stampede of the job market that we have here,

Hey Landers,

I'm very much excited about the upcoming NBA season, It's about 3 to 4 months premature, I know, I know,

But I just can't help feel the excitement, especially about the draft,
In my opinion, OJ Mayo is going to surprise alot of pple, I'd have to say that he's a tad underrated and he's a lot to prove, Beasley is going to rip it up in Sout beach and I don't know about Rose, I know he's the top pick and all, but watching him in college, I thot he's more like a combo guard, who can make plays, a la Gilbert Arenas, Seems like the Bulls want him to be the next JKidd, CP3 or Deron Williams, The jury is still out on u young fella, I wonder what number he'll wear in Chicago(no. 23 is untouchable),

Duhon signs wit the Knicks, I wonder where that leaves my man Marbury, I hope to goes to a team like Miami whre he he has chance to win and start (possibly), and yes He's still got game, U pple shud just cut him some slack,
It broke my heart to see Baron sign with LA Clippers, Warriors were one of my fave teams these last few years, ONe of the best offences in the Association,

Warriors better not Ellis go, same goes for Hawks with Josh Smith,

Do u guys think Team USA, will suck it up, stop giving excuses and win gold this year?? It's about time, pple are beginning to think they aren't the basketball powerhouse anymore,

Your thots?

Hello landers,

Wow, it's been a while since I posted on this topic,

I just want to give my 2cents about the recent NBA draft,

I think OJ Mayo is not getting the credit that he deserves, Kid is a big time player, I remember seeing him on CNN back when he was in junior high school and also watching an ESPN program on his high school team in Kentucky or something,

Anyhow, I'd still pick him over Derrick Rose in a heartbeat and until I'm proven wrong, I think he's a better player.

I think the Bulls made a big mistake by not taking Beasley, they have all they need at the backcourt position - Hinrich is a solid player, just becos they underachieved as a team last season doesn't mean he's no more fuel in his tank, Now their backcourt is crowded and there'll definitely be some trade imminent,

I think Jerryd Bayless is going to be solid, so would DJ Augustin, I'm also happy that Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, got drafted, tho twas in the 2nd round. Guy is going to be a solid defender,

Your thots Landers?

yes u're right Hannibal, it's mostly about a person's current situation,

but guys, we can expect to see eye to eye with Onyinye, remember, "men are from mars and women are from venus",

i can't even believe i read that book from back to back, one of my most boring reads ever,

but anyway, O is just speaking like most gals wud, in that 'knight in shining armor fashion', that girls always talk abt,

well well, Onyinye, you've been cornered,

how can u 'just know' when u haven't experienced it before??

But I do understand that u're jst trying to stay optimistic, that's what we shud all do,

Also it's not like Hannibal has no emotions, maybe they've just flown from his heart and down south of his body and a place whre the sun don't shine, lol, dude, trust me, u're a role model to lots of pple,

excellent point debosky,

I think i feel more comfortable wit wat u said,
it's more of a rational decision and not a non existing or at best ephermeral 'special feeling',

@Onyinye,

don't know abt enugu gals but i do know abt PH girls, i've seen so many lovely gals down there, i swear,
but most of the ones i saw just wanted to have fun, nothing else,

@Hannibal, I am laughing so hard at wat u said,
but come on man, at least if someone has been with several pple, thre must've been that one person that stood out,
even u, i'm sure u've taht 'one person' that u liked the most, out of all of the rest, be honest,

@Onyinye, I work in Lagos, and by 'Lagos girls' i mean the girls IN Lagos, not necessarily girls FROM Lagos,

Ah, why Enugu, are u from thre, i've never even been thre, Don't mind Hannibal, brother, trust me, u'll soon lose the zeal for all that 'adventure'

@ Davidylan, true that, let them know, cos they all thnk otherwise,

@studentetc, i'm not ur traditional player, i mean that's not the plan, but it just happens, sometimes., it is what it is ma, but i'm always honest with them, so i'm not a bad guy,
Romance / Re: Commitment - A New Perspective by maden9ja(m): 1:43am On Jun 30, 2008
@Hannibal, u are one funny fellow, have u really met so many that made u feel that way, lucky u, i haven't even met one,

@doyin, ouch, I feel insulted, not only do u call me a liar, but u also use derogatory terms to insult my people, i thot we're all supposed to be civilized here,
what's Gambari supposed to mean let me guess, an ignorant, no good northerner, abi?? well what can i say, Na u get ur mouth, say what u want,

Aren't u the Doyin in the NBA posts?, If u are then, what a shame we cud have blended a lot more, since  u and I are both basketball/NBA FANS,
Romance / Re: Commitment - A New Perspective by maden9ja(m): 1:36am On Jun 30, 2008
r u pple saying that @27 i'm rushing into marriage I dont think so o, not necessarily,

anyway, u pple shud know that for someone that is as scared as getting into the bad situation(commitment/marriage wise) as me, i wont rush into it,

i'm jst at a loss, sometimes i even feel like i'm not cut out for it, i don't even know what i want,

and to add insult to injury, i'm getting all this pressure from home to 'settle down', can u imagine

Like I said, I'm from the North, and they keep telling me at home, don't go and bring one of those 'sissy lagos' girls for us, can u imagine
LIke all of them girls in lagos are like that, but trust me, thre are FLY girls in lagos,

I wonder how all the married man manage to stay faithful, If  eventually tie the knot, I think i'll go with my wife everywhere, cos I don't think i have the willpower to resist all those girls,
Romance / Re: Commitment - A New Perspective by maden9ja(m): 1:24am On Jun 30, 2008
@Hannibal, of course I have hobbies, who doesn't. I'm an active basketball player, in fact that's what I do with most of my time. I simply love the game and I dont' even know what I'd do with out it. I watch the NBA alot and play all the the time.

Abt making money, I don't mean to blow my horn but I feel like at this point in my life, I've attained a reasonable level of success, I'm an engineer, been working with a multinatinational oil company for a couple of years now, lots of trips to europe , US during the holidays and I got lots of girls around(not sounding cocky again), I've a master's degree, always wanted to get a PhD, later in life, maybe I shud start it now sef,

But at the end of the day, I still feel like there's something missing,

@LonelyPal, what taht kind of name, I prefer not to heed ur advice, not until u change that name to something more encouraging, lol,
Just playing wit u man, what u said is true, But u shud really change that name tho'

@Onyinye, How cud u tell when u met ur own 'soulmate', give me a hint, and please not cliches,

All i'm trying to say is that I want to have some more meaning in life, not just some trip abroad, or some lucrative pay check,
Romance / Re: Commitment - A New Perspective by maden9ja(m): 12:41am On Jun 30, 2008
Hannibal,

What I'm trying to say exactly is that I'm tired of "thuggin on", I mean, one can only do it for so long, u'll definitely burn out and get tired,

All the clubbing thing doesn't really appeal to me anymore, not like before at least, I think thre's more to life,

Like just earlier on today, I saw this amazing young couple eating out, with their cute little daughter, it was so nice watching them, I said to myself, "that ought to be more, right thre",

Maybe I shud just wait for my time like Onyinye says, But man, I've been waiting, and waiting and waiting some more,
Romance / Commitment - A New Perspective by maden9ja(m): 12:20am On Jun 30, 2008
Hello Nairalanders,

Please I need to hear your opinions on this thing they call "Marriage"

For most people, it just comes naturally, I mean it's as easy as just meeting someone, falling in love, pushing everything aside and just get married and damn the consequences,

But for some(like yours truly), it's not that easy, never has been and I'm getting a little worried, I get worried and apprehensive about the slightest thing I see in a potential partner ( I know i'm not even near perfect myself),

I mean, how can one be SO sure that you're getting together with the right person, that's my biggest fear,

I mean all this courtship of a thing, it's not really 'real', most of it is just pretence, the guy trying to appear as the best person possible and the same for the girl, But once you start living together as a couple, reality sets in,

I'm a graduate, 27, good looking(i'm not blowing my horn here), proudn nigerian from the north, with a decent enough job to get married but I'm scared, or what some would call "cold feet", i've ICY feet, if u ask me,

I'm still young I know, but I'm tired of all this club hopping, stay out late at nite and waka about, I wan settle down abeg, I don tire jare,

As a result of my commitment-phobia, I've lost so many wonderful girls, most of whom want to get commitment, too soon into the courtship,

What do women wantI'm at a loss,

Please all the successfully married women out there, And the guys to can chip in, excluding the so called "players",

Help ur brother out, Please,

Sports / Re: Kobe Bryant Or Lebron James by maden9ja(m): 8:19pm On Feb 26, 2008
Kobe is hands down the best player in the game, and I'm not necessarily of big fan of him, but I'm just saying, truth has got to be told,

NOw Lebron, that dude is scary, at the rate he's going, he'd be better than Kobe when he's 30, remember he single handedly took his team to the finals, he's doing alright, But he's not really proven himself, the way Kobe has,
But he's really improved this season,

So man, it could go either way,
Sports / Re: Miami Heat Should Tank The Season And Get Derrick Rose by maden9ja(m): 6:00pm On Jan 10, 2008
But honestly though,  I think this'll probably be a somewhat weak draft,  not too many "quality" players,  if u know what i mean,

And I think it'll mostly be guards that'll be picked,

Hey,  do u know of Abdullahi Kuso,  a 6'9 -6'10 forward that plays for Gonzaga bulldogs He's not so bad,  could be a second round pick,  if he's lucky,

Sports / Re: Miami Heat Should Tank The Season And Get Derrick Rose by maden9ja(m): 11:26am On Jan 09, 2008
WadeFTW,
I'm glad u just gave your opinion this time, without necessarily having to say "Do your homework next time",  bla bla bla,   And "destroyed on all fronts" whatever,  whatever,  Remember this is a forum,  and pples are just giving they opinion and everybody is entitled to one,  Nobody cares if You THINK u're the most knowledgeabe or whatever, ( it gives u a bad rap when u say that)
Now that we can relate like real, matured and quasi-hoops analysts,  let's get down to business,

The reason why I say Miami is better off picking Beasley (or any other quality front court player ) is because I believe their problem is at the front court,  They lost(cause Wade got hurt in the series) in the conf. finals years back when Shaq was effective and they even won it all when Shaq was somewhat effective,  And remember who did they have as their PG when they got to conf. finals??,  Damon Jones,
Who did they have when they won? JWill, Teams don't really need to true PG to go all the way, above average will do, long as there's an allworld SG and centre or PF

So I reiterate, Miami's issue is at the frontcourt,  Give Beasley a chance,  Remember a couple of years back,  most scouts tore Amare apart, because of the similar things u say about Beasley,  being lazy, undisciplined, no passing outside the post, etc,  he slipped all the way to the 9th or was it 10th in the draft and he won the R.O.Y and PERSONALLY, I think he's turned out to be the best so far in that draft,  (let me know what u think about this one)

And if u're talking about bulking up,  look at D-howard,  look what he did to his body in 2 seasons,  And about height,  there are so many undersized and PF's in the game,  Elton Brand, Haslem is listed at 6' 8,  but he might not be up to that,  shoot even Marion plays that position on the run n gun Suns(though they don't really play a half court they offence),  and more importantly, my personal favorite, Sir Charles at listed at 6'6 KILLED people downlow,  heck, he prob'ly had a hall of fame career(hope i'm not being too presumptuous about that),

All I'm saying is that once u're about 6'8 and u've the necessary tools then u can play SF or PF,  I'm just saying that at his height, he can be really good and remember he already weighs 235, (15lbs more and he'll be "ripped"wink,  Plus how many lazy, lethargic players do u know that average 25 and 13 or 14 rbs a gme,  (Please don't say it's because he plays in a weak conference, )

I hope I don't sound like I'm vouching for the guy, and I'm sold on him (not necessarily0 I'm just saying that he has that flair about him and he has as good a chance if not better than any playr to be a solid and special NBA playr,  sooner rather that later, (remember he's closer to the basket)

Come on don't say there are no franchise type players on the draft, IMO,  in addition to Rose, there r Mayo, beasley and eric gordon(don't sleep on this one)

The only blameworthy incident about Mayo that comes to mind the game where he allegedly push a referee,  It was a hoax by the hateful and shameful referee,  he acted like he was pused after making a bogus call on mayo,  and I saw the clip and I'm sure u did too,  if i'm right Mayo's name was cleared wasn't it,  So don't say he's not coachable,

I just know from what I read about Rose is that, he a very humble kid and doesn't care about the hoopla, just wants to play ball,  that's good for a player of his potential,

Is it just me or have u noticed that this draft is going to be pg/sg sweepstakes,  You're right no franchise type forwards in the draft,  besides Beasley of course (lol),

your thoughts, ?

And for the record,   this is fun,  us going back and forth like this,
