Politics / Re: Update on the Ekiti Rerun Election: Segun Oni (PDP) declared Winner ! by mingiix: 10:42pm On Apr 28, 2009
@ kobojunkie, I would have thought that Bawomolo's sarcasm would be quite obvious to you considering your "passion" on this ekiti saga.
To spell it out. He was making jest of Mr INEC chairman's book 15yrs after June 12. Does that ring a bell?

Yeah!!! so, we wait 15 years to know the truth of this weeks elections. BRILLIANT!!

Sports / Re: Samuel Peters Vs Vitali Klitschko: X-ray Of The Bout Dubbed "Peter's Nitemare" by mingiix: 12:14am On Oct 19, 2008
It is a shame Peter lost. With over over 99.9% of the spectators in the Berlin o2 world supporting Klitschko it will be hard to lose. I and my nephew ( Apart from a few people at ringside) were virtually the only supporters Sam had. Our voices were drowned. I spoke in english and in pidgin to raise sam's morale but to no avail. If you noticed, how many people stood up during the Nigerian national anthem?
At the end, we had to leave with our tails between our legs. Going back to my good old country ( England) with shame. Peter!! I am still your supporter. I will be at any of your fights anywhere in the world.

Health / Medical Negligence And Misdiagnoses By Medical Doctors : Your Views by mingiix: 2:11pm On May 14, 2008
I am a doctor practicing in the UK for the past 9 years ( I also worked as a doctor in Nigeria for about 3years post med School).
Last year, I lost my elder brother in a ?private clinic in yenegoa. It opened my eyes to how much misdiagnoses patients are left to contend with in nigerian hospitals. He was 58yrs old. He came back from work breathless and was rushed to the "best ?private clinic. He was given intravenous ADRENALINE even though his BP was over 180/110 ( The doctor told me this over the phone when I called to make enquiries about the circumstances surrounding his death). The injection of this drug most likely aggravated his condition and induced a cardiac arrythmia. He was subsequently defibriillated (shocked) even though there was no ECG or cardiac monitor to show what rythm he was in. It is my belief that he was shocked for the benefit of relatives present.

To make matters worse. My family was treated with utmost disdain by the hospital when I arrived Nigeria for the funeral about 2 months later. I had visited the clinic in the company of my wife to find out exactly what happened. The MD (an ortopaedic surgeon) had without tact told me that my brother was moribound and would have died even if he was taken to the best clinic in Europe ( My brother was talking when he arrived the clinic). I felt he said that to impress my wife who is white and also a UK based doctor. She was horrified and told him what she felt the hospital had done wrong. Trust Nigerians. Our doctors know all and will never admit their faults.

Until the culture of medical litigation is ingrained in our people, such negligence, misdiagnosis and unprofessional behaviour will go on unhindered ( This is ironic because my dad will not allow me to sue the hospital and also report the doctor to the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council because the doctor is from our village). Can you beat that?
Politics / Re: Iwendi: Police Introduce Compulsory Medical Check For Officers by mingiix: 12:37am On May 09, 2008
Onos! Are you now in Chad? You sef. Advising nigerians to seek medical help abroad is a laughable option. It will perpetuate the cycle of corruption. We need to fix the hospitals back home. We also need to be more critical of our doctors and sue for medical negligence if need be.
Nigerian doctors need to be on top of the situation instead of always going on strikes for increase in remunerations.
There is also no shame in telling a patient that you do not know what his ailment is. There is also no shame in cross-checking the side effects of drugs you are prescribing (Use BNF OR MIMS even in the presence of your patients). Medics!!! please wake up to your duties

If that makes me iliterate, so be it.
Autos / Re: Used Cars Wanted by mingiix: 2:43am On Jun 18, 2007
Hello Democrat!
Your knowledge about cars is amazing. I hope you can help me out.I bought a 2000 Model Chrysler Sebring Convertible (Limited Edition) to used during my trip to Naija sometimes next month. The car was sweet and faultless when I got it ,apart from the fact it has a left-hand steering ( we drive on the right side here unlike you blokes that drive on the wrong side, Ooops sorry.Left side grin). I wasnt  really happy with the sound system because it did not have a bluetooth capability for hassle free phone calls and also because it didnt have an auxillary input for my Ipod.
To cut a long short, I got my ideal sound system with a boom box and had my local mechanic ( a Friend) to replace the  factory-fitted one. He made a complete mess of the electrics. The fuel gauge, speedometer and the bit that goes up and down when you rev the engine (Revometer?) are all completely lifeless.
I can't take it to the Chysler garage because I had to ship it to Lagos in order for it to arrive quickly enough for my trip in two weeks.
I have bought an Haynes manual to troubleshoot the problem. It all points to a fault with the instrumen cluster circuit board( So i think). Have you any solution to this? I will need to order this from the US ( it's not available here in the UK) to take along with me to lagos to fix. If you have any contrary views, let me know. I have been penny wise and pound foolish. I don't want more mistakes.
Here is the car

Politics / February 13, 1976 by mingiix: 2:16am On May 27, 2006
Just before 8:30 a.m. on February 13, 1976, the following curious announcement was heard on Radio Nigeria:

"Good morning fellow Nigerians, This is Lt. Col. B. Dimka of the Nigerian Army calling. I bring you good tidings. Murtala Muhammed's deficiency has been detected. His government is now overthrown by the young revolutionaries. All the 19 military governors have no powers over the states they now govern. The states affairs will be run by military brigade commanders until further notice.

All commissioners are sacked, except for the armed forces and police commissioners who will be redeployed. All senior military officers should remain calm in their respective spots. No divisional commanders will issue orders or instructions until further notice. Any attempt to foil these plans from any quarters will be met with death. You are warned, it is all over the 19 states.

Any acts of looting or raids will be death. Everyone should be calm. Please stay by your radio for further announcements. All borders, air and sea ports are closed until further notice. Curfew is imposed from 6am to 6pm. Thank you. We are all together."

Just prior to this broadcast, then Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed, along with his ADC (Lt. Akinsehinwa), Orderly and driver, had been assassinated on his way to work in a thin skinned black Mercedes Benz car without escorts. The unprotected car had slowed down at the junction in front of the Federal Secretariat in Ikoyi, Lagos, when a hit team which allegedly included Lt. William Seri and others, casually strolled up and riddled it with bullets.

Following confirmation of Muhammed's death, Lt. Col. Buka Suka Dimka, of the Army Physical Training Corps, who (along with some others) had been up for most of the night drinking champagne, then made a quick trip to the British High Commission at about 8 am where he demanded to be put in touch with General Gowon in Britain.

He allegedly left a message through Sir Martin LeQuesne, saying Gowon should proceed to Togo and await further instructions.  Then he returned, initially accompanied by six others, to Ikoyi to seize the Radio Station.  The martial music played was allegedly specially selected by a civilian worker, Mr. Abdulkarim Zakari, who had been alerted before hand to do so.

Other hit teams simultaneously went after other key functionaries of the regime's trioka, namely the Chief of Staff, SHQ, Lt. Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo and the Army Chief, Lt. Gen. T. Y. Danjuma. The Military Governors of Kwara and Oyo States, Colonels Ibrahim Taiwo and David Jemibewon, respectively, were also  targeted.  Taiwo, who had been the national coordinator of the July 1975 coup that brought Mohammed to power, was abducted and killed by a team led by Major K. K. Gagara. Jemibewon, whose name had been added to the list of targets by Lt. Col T. K. Adamu, merely because Adamu "did not like his face", escaped.

In response to a pro-coup broadcast (and other activities) from Benin-City by the Brigade Commander, Colonel Isa Bukar, counter-broadcasts dissociating other army units from the coup were made, first from Calabar by the Brigade Commander, Colonel Mamman J. Vatsa, and then from Kaduna on behalf of the GOC, Brigadier Alani Akinrinade.

As efforts were being made within the military to crush the revolt, University students in Lagos and Ibadan (among others) took to the streets to protest the coup.  Later, when it became known that Dimka had visited the British High Commission on the day of the coup, some students attacked British and American facilities in Lagos.

The coup attempt eventually failed seven hours later, crushed by forces rallied and directed from a temporary base at Bonny camp by Lt. General T. Y. Danjuma, Chief of Army Staff, whose designated assassin (reportedly Lt. Lawrence Garba) had chosen at the last moment to spare him at the Marina Jetty, allegedly in part to avoid collateral casualties. Full story

Hello! your story is very touching. What you have just described is called a pitting pedal oedema. It is a sign of very numerous illnesses. It could be cardiac(right ventricular failure), renal problems(kidneys), chronic liver disease and several more. She needs to see a doctor to examine her and  arrange appropriate investigations to find the cause and commence treatment. Most often, there is a treatable cause. I hope this helps.

@Txlonghorn ! instead of looking out for the slums i was trying to point out, you were busy scrutinising faces and quick to criticise people. Calling someone a fat white chick does nothing to boost ur big ego. Your innate racist tendency only buttresses your ignorance. Living in Yankee (if u really do) does not take away the OKORONESS in you.
