Education / Re: My Son Cannot Count Numbers by muyete(m): 2:18pm On Mar 05, 2012
What is the hulabaloo all about? Most times parents are the problems! We mostly have an unatainable yardstick for these children at times and assess them based on these largerv than life standards. Children have different developmental milestones ; and jsut as posited by the earlier posters, these milestones are different from child to child. I stopped to impose my standards on my children when I asked my son to paint a leaf. He actually used a red paint against green paint. I initially wanted to scold him but later relaise that there are also red leaves. Come to think of it, I have lived all this while to believe that a leaf must come in green colour.

My son was not speaking at 3years and the teachers complained severally abount his unperticipative attitude in the kindergateen class. He would be 6years by May. Ask me how he is now? He talks to everyone intelligently as if he is a teenager. It is amazing what he say and how I get along with him on the phone during my converstions with him. This dramtic change occurred to him within 3 years. There was no medical intervention. No nothing! The sister started speaking at age 18months. She speaks very fluently now and would be 4 in April.

Let the boy be and continue to encourage him. The only thing I did was to buy the children some interactive toys game which has both audio and video features. Maybe this is what actually helped.

OP Please be careful next time. Having read your story and the way the event was twisted at the expense of the police I would say you should thank you God for saving you. Those guys could have planted the gun the gun against you and lied that you were an armed robber. You could have been lynched to death by the mob or even shot at by the 'armed robber' police. There exist stories of innocent people that have been murdered by this gun weilding rogues disgusies as police men. If you remeber the story of Modebayo Awosika, you will agree with me that it does not worth strugling with the police or better stll armed robbers.

There's nothing to wonder about. There's a curfew and they simply decided to flout the order.

i feel disgusted with the way people  reason at times. Are you justifying the killings of unarmed and perhaps innocent civilians  simply because they flout a curfew. Common! Would your opinionr  about the killings be the same if those killed by security forces are members of your family or your relatives. Please be thorough and logical in your arguement.

If my family member becomes so silly as to impede the fight against Islamic terrorism, they deserve whatever they get.

Ok so be it.  You  are not in Nigeria but you get fed by series of information you hear, read and see from news media. To start with I recommend that you watch Aljazera independent and unbiazed documentary on thr BH and Nigerian security forces. After that we can then discuss.

I agree! If you have watched the video of police raid after the first Boko haram onslaught in Maiduguri where innocent and unarmed civilians where randomly selected and shot in the head and in the heart, you will agree that the nigerian security forces cannot be trusted. They surely would want to make a statement by killing unarmed civilians and lied that it was the BH that did itm They have done it before and they can do it again.

And she can't officially request for it?

Lets be realistic, the bitter truth is that it wont be easy for the federal government to reverse to 65 naira
because there was no provision in 2012 budget for fuel subsidy and i dont see government presenting supplementay budget for that.
when Goodluck presented 2012 budget to the national assembly i exepected Nigerians expecially the
Labour to raise alarm over the missing of such provision but everybody overlook that, rather threatening to make Nigeria ungovernable.
Does it make sense for labour to tell someone who just returned from his village after xmas and new year celebration to stay at home all in the name of protest, what would he eat by staying at home INDEFINITELY.
In this issue, is labour ''remedy'' not as bad as the sickness ''fuel price increment''?

@Poster,
The budget has not been approved and hence its still subject to amendment. Inherent in an approved budget is the possibility of supplementary budget. Why are you not seing the possibility of the government presenting a supplementary budget? If you care to know, alarm was raised by concerned nigerian when the budget was void of provision of fuel subsiy.
Labour was considerate enough;that was the reason why the strike was delayed for one week in oreder to accomadate those who have travelled for holidays.
What remedy do you now suggest?

efisher:

The way people have been screaming against removal of subsidy, you will think people will just fall and die instantly. Agreed prices will generally rise up but over time, they should stabilize at certain bearable rates.

The issue of rising prices in transportation is mostly one of greed on the part of transporters. Let's look closely at this: Before subsidy removal, an 18 seater bus may require N5000 fuel per trip from PH to Lagos carrying 18 passengers. Each passenger pays say N2000. Post subsidy, fuel cost is 217% more ie say: N10,850. Now, the increase is, N5,850. Spreas N5850 amongst 18 passengers and what you get per head is just about N325! So transport cost per head should be N2,325. Even if you want to factor in other things due to "general inflation", transport per head coud be say N2,500. But no! The transporters want to rip everyone off and demand the whole 217% increase per head giving N4,340
. WHY? We just want to take advantage of every situation and plunder ourselves.

In all, as time goes on when the euphoria of the new price fizzles out, things will stabilize. Meanwhile, I advise we focus our protests towards the real issues:

1. Swift passage of PIB
2. Reduction in size and cost of governance
3. Corruption
4. Resource control (Every region has huge resources that should be developed strategically and not plundered unreasonably)
Etc!

Anothe Ignoramus! must you post?
