I had a personal experience at the last point of check-in before boarding. one of the immigration officers stopped me and asked for my passport and I presented it to her and after checking my passport she withheld it and asked me to pay some money, in my mind I thought she was just begging like the others (NDLEA & Customs), who searched my luggage did, I told her sorry that I have exhausted the Naira I had, that It is only the Dollars I have with me and its in higher denomination. she then said they collect $100 from people like us that are travelling for the first time and it is non negotiable, and that if I don't pay the money, that they won't let me cross that point. at that point my blood started boiling cos my departure time was near and the lady was looking very serious. Then I raised my voice on her and because I new my right and when she saw the way I was talking, she was scared and handed over my passport to me and I proceeded.
lets just be wise. thank God you asked this question because some may have fallen victims of this extortions and others may steal fall except the have gotten this information or really know their right.
May God help us to sanitize our country from all these corrupt practices.

We got to the embassy by 6:30am, we met one lady there for crew visa for Britain airways and so many policemen n women cos of the Boston bomb blast. We enter d embassy by 7:15am n do the normal security checks. Then after went into d main building where d woman check our interview letter send to US by d embassy n give us I901 as our nos. So we went to d interview hall. By 8:15am our nos was called for submitting our documents, devil want to use d woman but our God have settled it since so we were not worry about what she said that she won't collect our AOS, because it was scan copy not a posted copy. She later said our bank statement is ok for us. She was friendly with my daughter and I went to pay £600 for d 3 of us. By 10am, our nos was called @window 15 were we met one nice guy. Our interview lasted just 5mins which I always prayed for.

Gentiger: A word of advice to those just arriving. You will get lots of calls from scammers seeking for your credit card details. They will promise you government grants and jobs too fantastic to refuse all in exchange for a sign on fee which invariably will require divulging your debit/credit card details. When this starts to happen, remember you were forewarned. Additionally, I advice all immigrants to have self development goals in mind. I don't care what you graduate with in Nigeria. Until your record shows you did a program with a certification from a recognized US institution, you won't earn much. To boost your earning, you must of necessity do a program which could be a certificate, diploma or degree course. You can start out with a certificate program and gradually advance to the core programs while taking advantage of government grants. I wish everyone a happy Easter. My people I'm so so thankful to God and all the wonderful people of this forum...I am indeed indebted..God bless us all in jesus name....
My experience goes thus:
I got to the american embassy around 6am and we all waited outside before a man came outside to arrange us..immigrants and non immigrants.I immediately joined the immigrant line..and we submit d appointment letter..after that we went thru all d security checks and finally got inside the building at exactly 7am..I headed to pay window20 where d cashier was..after payin 54500 I was called to submit my docs and I went back to my sit and we where all waiting for the CO's to show up..during dis time I doscovered the black angel was at the non immigrants section same with the lady in window16...a white guy showed up in window14 and he started interviewing..due to all his interview I prayed to be interviewed by him then on the second thots I jus told God dat any CO that call my number(B410) must grant my visa..after like 30 mins another guy showed up in window 15 and started interviewing selectees too..after about 2hrs of waiting I saw d guy on window 15 with my docs and he was goin thru it and nodding his head den after about 5mins my number beeped on his window...I panicked a little cos d guy denied a couple and another young man..I braced myself and went up to his window and d interview started

We arrived the embassy at about 6am but had to hire chairs to wait for our interview slated for 10am. At the hour, we proceeded to the gate were security checks were effected. Once inside the hall, we paid the necessary fees and our documents checked and received. We sat down to wait for our number to be called. Behold at about 12.30pm our number beeped at Window 13 (handsome guy) who had earlier on denied 2 couples. We braced up and moved with confidence to Window 13 because greater is he who is in us that the one in the world.----- Am the principal applicant.
US----Goodmorning sir

US----fine
CO----- Do we swear to speak the truth
US----- We do.

phumbay you are in order,the newspaper is not necessary since you marriage certificate(that doesnt mean you should not pack it along).Your hubby needs everything except educational credentials.The marriage certificate shares both of you or vice versa.

junkerhill: the certificate u have its ok. testimonial is mostly needed if you are going with GCE result. Testimonial proves that you actually went to secondary school.

I would recommend you go with the two result and testimonial with you. I am also in the same shoe.Even my school refuse to issue me testimonial after 14 yrs.
