If some states are already paying their workers above 60k, what's the issues with FG dragging feet on the matter ni tori Oloru?

Are you in this country at all or you are just pretending to be ignorant?
Right now, some states atr still paying 18k as minimum wage and they are always owing salaries...they only rely on the federal monthly allocation to pay salaries and run the govt besides other infrastructure they need to put in place...where do you expect such state to have 62k to pay?
Or you expect the fed govt to base their decision on the payment capacity of Lagos and Edo...even Edo state is doing that to score political point not because they can really afford it. Only Lagos and probably the Oil producing States can afford that 62k...none of of the northern States can afford it.

If a company is not producing and constantly depends on handouts to pay its employees, what do you do to such companies? Why do we continue to prop up states that are not able to produce or make ends meet? angry

You need to see the way I'm shaking my head right now. Our leaders are anti people. Sadly, they're not going to learn from this. Their mumu will soon forget and vote wrongly as usual. May God forgive me...I think the masses deserve this kind of treatment

Sigh... This government is truly not serious at all!

What a joke!

Was this what you appealed to them to suspend strike for?!! To insult their collective intelligence!

Honestly, they should shut down the nation!

Clearly, Nigerian leaders are not yet ready to come down to the very level of those they are leading.

The only private sector in Nigeria currently is the banking sector which ofcourse will do the government's bidding, others are bet9ja and co who are not represented in the negotiations,

The bet9jas and Co are majority of the businesses trying to survive, no employee of theirs insist on minimum wage, they go home with whatever the organization can afford and everyone is indifferent.

The banks in coniival with the government impoverish the people, that's why they are the only sector not complaining about the current economic situation.

In this ongoing minimum wage negotiations, the private sector is represented mainly by the banks which is same as the government, hence both can easily agree on a figure

We shall stand our ground, there is no going back now, its above a N100k or nothing, otherwise tell me the moral justification for a 300% increase in judges salaries and a N29m Nigeria's senator's monthly take home

Let do some small arithmetic's

Every N10,000 wage increases cost the government 950bn. So, an increase of 30,000 will increase the money government is spending by 950bn x 3 which is N2.85tr.

This is huge. This is a government that may borrow 6.6 tr to cover budget shortfalls

https://www.nairaland.com/8117406/fg-may-borrow-6.6-trillion

This will increase the money in circulation and lead to a huge spike in inflation.

There are 2 reasons why Nigerian workers are paid poorly.

Government tax collection is poor. The federal government only collects about 10% of GDP as revenue compared to Ivory Coast which collects 26%. If tax revenues are around 18% of GDP, salaries will be much higher, especially of deserving ones such as those in the health sector.

The second is that the government workforce is bloated. Worse, service delivery is nothing to write home about.

The civil service should be trimmed and made lean and mean, for the purpose of delivering optimal service. Productivity is way too low.

If tax collection is increased and the civil service trimmed, a much improved wage package should be awarded them.

Bola Tinubu from his body language wonders why he should pay lazy civil servants a wage increment.

Lobatan!!! NLC Strike Episode 2 loading.
We all saw this coming. After all, N62,000 is higher than N60,000. Isn't it?
Shebi it was National Grid they shut down before. This time around, dem go kuku disconnect all the electric poles join. Let's see how this movie would eventually play out.

On a more serious note, NLC should make more pressing demands beyond minimum wage that affects the entirety of the Nigerian population, not just the civil servants and salary earners. How about insisting on government tackling the inflation rates and high cost of living, price regulation of goods and services, reducing the electricity tariffs, creating enabling policies for business owners and ensuring the welfare of every Nigerian.

They should actually ask that every member of Government starting from Mr. President be placed on the same minimum wage as Nigerian workers.

After all, they are all workers!

This is not Animal Farm where some animals are more equal than others.
