Let me remind you that the way of the old world was violence and the victor usually takes it all, both language, culture, women and land. So what subtle influence were you yapping about uhn? |

aim5: Really We don't make mouth. We just go for it. Our history screams of our exploits. You remember biafran war? Igbo people used your land as military base without your permission. Your people who antagonized them were mauled and massacred. Your women were used for target practice. Your almighty Oba never dared them. Did u remember what happened when they attempted to step into Yoruba border at Ore? Am sure you know. The civil war ended not up to 50yrs ago so the memories are still fresh and the facts can never be twisted by your elders who like twisting history to massage their ego. General Obasanjo led a handful of Yoruba soldiers to the Ore border, then defeated and chased those biafran flattheads back to the east. That point marked the beginning of the end of the civil war. The igbos call us cowards cos they couldn't stand up to us. They are still pained till date. If you wan form vandame, make una try war with Yoruba na. You just have to appreciate the rich history of Edo. I was surprised when I visited the Palace of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti whem he categorically told me his grand parents migrated from Benin that he still pay homage to Benin. Like the OP rightly stated, the Benin Kingdom extended up to Dahomey the present day republic of Benin which derived its name from the great Benin Kingdom. No one is talking about tribe supremacy here but the history of the Edo people. You will appreciate the history of the Edo people the more when you travel out of this country. 1 Like |

vicadex07: Look who is talking! the cowards of Nigeria. Upon your acclaimed sophistication even your Awolowo who later committed sucide couldn't move a motion for self governance but Pa Enahoro did. Majority of your so called sophisticated railway workers were massively enslaved by the British but thanks to Pa Michael Imoudu who dared the Colonial Masters and fought for workers welfare. Yorubas are not in any way superior to Edo and they can never be. We are not cowards. And as for the Igbos, I reserve my comments till Buhari finishes with you. |

What are your sources if any? You can not put a huge historical proposition or postulation and yet No source. This is a partly distorted Edo History and an abuse of social media privilege. I know that Edo and the Benin people has the richest history in Nigeria. I therefore demand your sources or you authorities otherwise I will take this up with relevant authorities. |

vicadex07: Go and read wide or better still listen to the news. You talk of ritualists yolobas are at the forefront, have you forgotten Soka in Ibadan not to mention all those rituals places in Ijebu. Is it armed robbery? Google Oyenusi, Shina Rambo, Mofu Olosa among others. Thuggery is deep rooted in Yoloba land. Like I mention earlier for the flat heads Igbo when that your dead dream failed to actualize I am talking about Biafruad and Buhari finishes with you guys then Edo people go get una time. We dont want the Igbos to suffer double jeopardy 1 Like |

Though I am a Yoruba boy all through and through, from my understanding of history and what we were taught in yoruba class, if we still believe that the Yoruba race came from Oduduwa then we are likely to be a descendant of Benin Kingdom. These are my reasons for saying so: 1. Where did Oduduwa come from 2. Did he meet people at Ile-Ife when he got there? 3. If a town is not related to another, is it possible for the town to go and request for a king from another town? Can Ibadan town go to Ilesha to go and request for a king there..? 2 Likes |

Foolish WANNABE Yoruba, what were you taught in Yoruba class? I knew answering your questions won't stop you from asking the same question tomorrow. These are questions that have been answered over and over again here on nairaland. I know you feel inferior by Yoruba but, that won't make me let your lies go unchecked. This modern day Benin people have nothing to do with the Yoruba, they are more of ibos with the exception of Akoko Edo and a few others like them. The old Bini(Itsekiri and Olukunmi) were the descendants of Yoruba. People always hold on to part of their history, "Benin has Yoruba language in core areas like during worship of the gods, you can't consult Ifa without using Yoruba. You bear Yoruba names. What more do you need to know that Yoruba was above you and still is? 1.Oduduwa was from one of the hamlets in Ile Ife with origin in the middle east. 2.And yes he met people there, he couldn't have been installed by lizards and mosquitos. 3. Oracles were always consulted before kings are made, and they follow. You guys are just afraid of being called second class Yoruba, that's all. INFERIORITY COMPLEX IS INDEED A TERRIBLE THING! toludadon: 1 Like |
