No, you are not the only one thinking this; I think they simply use the medias as a terror group's propaganda machine.

I'm ashamed to think and know that a thousand British soldiers would bring all the thieving rebels in the Niger delta to book in six months, what's more most people on here know this to be true even if they deny it. Nigeria needs to ask itself why, what do they do differently and then replicate it for our military.

These people definately lack knowledge about missile defence system.

Tell me how the hell is your Missile going to reach an aircraft without a guidance system?
No Airplane should move around?? Really?? The Russian S400 SAM longest range is 400km and 186 miles straight up. Yea thats for a missile defense system with a Fire control Radar. Same for the US patriot with 160Km .The damn militants have no capability to disrupt our airspace as we can as well Jam all signals Operating In the Electromagnetic Frequency Spectrum In The Niger Delta Area.

The fact remains Developing A Missile is out of it for NDA so stop making useless mouths as all Nigerians ain't fool

Bros na surface to air missiles we dey talk for here
Even in Libya war it's not common
As ISIS strong reach dem no get am grin grin
You think Surface to air missiles na anyhow weapon grin

Err, it depends on the generation of SAM you're alluding to. The old soviet ones are readily available on the black market and there are tons of weapons all over Africa due to Libya. And don't forget someone from that region just ruled the country and there were all types of shady defense/arms contracts to private individuals...so never rule out a possibility that they must have acquired loads of sophisticated weapons.

Also, with the "no fly one" threat, I doubt they were alluding to sophisticated air defense systems. Rag tag militants can't operate complicated systems - not even the Nigerian military. You need a lot of training and expertise for them. I'd wager that they're talking about manpad and Russian Igla (both SA-16 and SA-18) are readily available on the black market, depending on the connect...only the US stinger missiles are somewhat difficult to find anywhere.

ISIS do have manpads but using them against a sophisticated airforce is a different thing entirely. But manpad against the Nigerian airforce and those obsolete jets would look like a sharp shooter hitting target at a shooting range. grin

Anyway, you lot need to let peace reign and do everything based on justice, equity, and fairness. We don't need another civil war in Africa. The civil war era in Africa is over!

Shalom! cool

I feel the mods re giving Attention too much, cause many persons including me got to knw abt NDA through NL, mods should not put things up that have an adverse effect on the unity of the country... I can feel the pains and fears of a young Nigerian or even non Nigerian who is about to travel to ph via air plane on tuesday 7.... let's put him/her in our shoes how would they feel?.... mods if u don't know 10 out every 8Nigerian is either a guest or a member of NL.. let's try and be a little bit more careful esp on issues concerning FP more so on security issues... cos I see no reason why a member who bearly has spent up to a week as a member would be only opening and commenting "only" about NDA!
so they should hide the information and watch as people become collateral damages?

Exactly. Unfortunately for some of the morons typing here, they do not understand the fact that Nigeria doesn't have the funds to prosecute a full scale war right now. The moment the IOCs shutdown, these guys would take control and start swapping oil for weapons(just the ISIS way). And the truth is that, they are in control of the zones where you have oil wells/fields. I just hope and pray these are empty threats.

I don dey fear oh.
If the new sheriff can fear and cancel his ogoni trip, how about we civilians that don't have the 80,000 strong army at our beck and call.

Buhari can make himself a hero by actually birthing a new Nigeria. The UK that formed Nigeria saw need to create four countries(England, Scotland,Wales & Northern Ireland) to form the United Kingdom. Why can't we take a cue from them and adopt something similar.

If Buhari rises today and says he is submitting a bill for the regionalization of Nigeria with true federalism as a core of our structure, majority of the challenges we face today will be dumped in our history books.

Once again,Buhari can chose to make himself a hero by restructuring this country or he can choose to stick to his theory that since a civil war was one in 1967, it should be fought again and won in 2016.
This is the most sensible comment.. having a regional federalism like it's done in Great Britain

It should be noted that 20percent of the oil in the niger is enough to fund war that can last up to 10years. The NDA can exchange crud oil in their acquisition of heavy weapons with the Russians, the czechs, the slovak and the Ukrainians. No matter how low the oil price becomes in the intentional market it will still be valued. Let me sound this as a warning, the NDA already have support from super power nations and that is why they are so bold to come out with such daring threat. The govt should rethink and return to the negotiation table.
