WC Opponents Watch Sampaoli Set To Drop Red-Hot Icardi From Argentina World Cup Squad Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli will drop Mauro Icardi from his Russia 2018 World Cup squad, according to a report on Fox Sports Argentina. Icardi has been in a rich vein of form for his Italian club Inter Milan in the Serie A, scoring 18 goals in 22 league games. But his poor relationship with the leaders of the Argentina Football Association, his teammates and coupled with his performance for the Albiceleste may have cost him a place in the squad, according to the report. In November 2017, the former Sampdoria striker pulled out of Argentina’s international friendly against Nigeria in Krasnodar. The 25-year-old has made four appearances for the senior national team of Argentina and is yet to score a goal. Argentina will face Croatia, Iceland and Nigeria in Group D at the World Cup in Russia. (Photo) Gernot Rohr In Russia, To Announce Roster For Poland & Serbia Friendlies March 7 Super Eagles' German coach Gernot Rohr was in Krasnodar Krai, Russia on Tuesday, February 27 attending the FIFA World Cup Team Workshop. The official Twitter account of the German National Team has posted a photograph of the former Bayern Munich defender and Germany's assistant coach Thomas Schneider in Sochi, venue of the workshop. Prior to Rohr's trip to Lagos to attend the inaugural Nigeria Football Federation Awards, the Mannheim native was in Germany to visit his 95-year-old mother Elisabeth. Gernot Rohr's father Philipp Rohr was also a renowned coach, managing the likes of VfR Mannheim,VfL Neckarau and SV Waldhof Mannheim, before he passed away on September 30, 2007 at the age of 89 years. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Federation have officially informed that Rohr will announce his roster for the upcoming pre-World Cup friendlies against Poland and Serbia in a week's time, March 7. The Federation advised Super Eagles fans to be wary of unnecessary media speculations regarding the players summoned for the matches. **Ifeanyi Emmanuel Photo Credit : dfb.de Source: http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=26761 Russia 2018 WC Countdown: 106 days 5 hours 5mins to go |

I have never rated Agu as a needed SE player, doesn't have any exceptional quality(ies) needed to get a place in the Russian squad. Joe Obi will surely replace him if he's fit and if he is to make the squad in the first place. solonnachi: |

And the GK conundrum continues.... I told you nothing is guaranteed even with the Pionetti-Uzoho special link up... it all boils down to the friendlies for us all here No Automatic Shirt For Uzoho – Rohr Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has insisted that there is no automatic shirt for Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho, in his World Cup team list. Rohr, who recently deployed goalkeeper trainer, Pionetti Enrico to personally train Uzoho in Spain, ahead of World Cup friendly matches against Poland and Serbia next month, debunked insinuations that the step was to give the former Golden Eaglets save hands preferential attention ahead of other goalkeepers for the national team. And there have been reports that Uzoho has been penciled down by the Franco-German coach as Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Rohr on Tuesday in a radio programme in Lagos, Megasport, ruled out the possibility of Uzoho automatically taking over the Eagles’ number one shirt without working for it, as he said the keeper is still very young and is now third choice in the roll call of shot-stoppers at Deportivo. He further explained that similar attention will be given Portugal-based Dele Alampasu as well as the home-based duo of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Ajiboye, adding that there is no automatic shirt for any player including the goalkeepers. He said another trainer of the national team goalkeepers and ex-international, Alloy Agu has been assigned the duty to tinker Ezenwa and Ajiboye, while Enrico will soon travel to meet Alampasu. Nigerian fans are, however, still worried, despite the array of goalkeeping options available to Rohr, that the department remains a grey area for the tactician who has also acknowledged its lack of depth. Recently, Rohr ruled out a return for former team captain, Vincent Enyeama, whose last top-flight action came in January 2017, and Carl Ikeme is still receiving treatments for leukaemia. Enrico, who joined the three-time African champions six months ago, has already started working on further developing the young Uzoho ahead of the global showpiece. Last year November, Uzoho was handed his debut in Nigeria’s friendly against Argentina in Krasnodar. The 19-year-old kept the second half of the game as the west African side came back from a 2-1 deficit before the break to secure a 4-2 victory. The former Golden Eaglets second choice, behind Alampasu at UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, has kept 10 clean sheets out of 14 matches for the Deportivo B side this campaign and has also played twice in the Spanish top-flight, making his bow against Eibar on October 15. Rohr submitted: “Uzoho is working hard, but he is only third choice keeper at La Coruna, and very young. Let’s work on all our goalkeepers. “We will give the same attention to Alampasu, Alloy Agu will work on the local lads as well. We will work equally with all the goalkeepers we have available, even with Daniel Akpeyi in South Africa.” Source: http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/no-automatic-shirt-for-uzoho-rohr/ Russia 2018 WC Countdown: 106 days 4 hours 54mins to go |

realpoacher: Haha, I can see that Ezenwa and Akpeyi have been rebuked with love. So it is now a crime to point out the weaknesses of a goalie over 90% of us here hardly know. Please if you want to preach rebuking with love do so also to those that criticize Iheanacho, Success, Onazi, Echiejile, Martins, even Alloy Agu and others. We are talking about a critical issue that can Jeopardize our participation in the WC you are talking about rebuking with love. I don't think you know the gravity of the predicament we are in. Anybody who is not mentally ready for a rebuke is not ready for the challenge and task ahead. 2 Likes |

Oasis007: I was actually expecting Rohr to have sent a personal psychologist to Akpeyi to help him out instead of the decision he took on Maduka. Akpeyi is not bad when it comes to goal keeping but his lack of confidence and shaky shaking in the GWG uniform is his undoing. by now, we should have been hearing Akpeyi having extra sessions (therapy). Amadu Pinnic should also help the guy out and Nigeria at large EXCEPT IF this is seen as interference on the coach's job/selection. |

Kog45:what performance are you talking about. is Joel Obi and Agu same class of footballers? so you would drop a Messi for Dybala if you were a coach just because of camp performance? His quality is not in doubt, injury is our concern. After Mikel, Joel Obi is the next big thing in our midfield. 6 Likes |

That is just what Akpeyi needs.... Not a pionetti or Alloy Agu... but Very intensely deep psychological sessions with a rated shrink. His goalkeeping abilities are not in doubt. It is his low confidence level, poor comportment and "fear fear" jerks all in the GWG that make him look so bad at goalkeeping. But will it be enough before the mundial? Time will tell.... somehow: 2 Likes |

TheSuperNerd: Why alloy Agu for the home based and African based goal keepers and oyibo (a better expert) for Uzoho? Why wait this long before even considering Alampasu to be trained by the same oyibo goal keeper coach? Systematic preferential treatment? Some of what he said here are just to save face jare, his actions are saying something else. Alloy Agu of all people to train Akpeyi and Ezenwa? Akpeyi (the most experienced of them all) is not based locally so how will Alloy go train him? that man with no foresight? how and what can he teach Akpeyi psychologically? which goal keeper has he ever nurtured to a bit of perfection? i dey vex anytime i hear that name self. Abeg house make una no vex for my ranting o, just that i am a fan of goal keeping having been a goal keeper myself (not officially). The best from the lot is what we want and anything short of that, Rohr, i and some Nigerians won't be happy with some of your actions so far. 1 Like |

DrKlever:My oga,pls read my comment again cos it doesn't deserve this reply. I'm not a fan that easily get carried away with talks cos have been in this biz since 1980,so have seen a lot when it comes to eagles. No matter how solid you are and out of the team for so long, coming back is not that easy as some of you are saying it. Joel Obi will need to work hard in camp to tell Rohr he is the rear gem Rohr is looking for, anything short of that is out, forget class. Pls this is not issue of Messi and Dybala comparison but Joel Obi convincing Rohr. |

Do you know what the Papers Headlines will read if it happens that way?! Sending him a Trainer alone gonna be a huge help to him, cos having Rohr Confidence gonna definitely boost his Morale. Bro..... I'm ain't suggesting Alloy Agu here, a foreign Trainer precisely who knows his Onions, cos psyching is part of the Responsibilities of a Professional GK Trainer. 1 Like |
