0/10. This debate isn't worth having. When people start to compare SauceKid, M.I and Ice Prince to Modo then you really have to question if they understand the basis of the discussion..what hip-hop really is about. SMH.
MI is a decent MC no doubt but lyrically, in all ramifications, he is much inferior to Mode9. Lets forget the complex songs and verses and who does it better cuz thats obviously Modo's. Even when playing around on a track, M.I no fit tie Mode laces. If you doubt this please check out "Mind Your Self (Who Get Ear)" by Mode.

Spirit of Okija: I laugh at NIGERIANS!!!

All this nonsense na our fault...

WIth the number of scams that have been revealed this year, I would have thought that we would have Occupied Nigeria again but no!! As long as say the price of Fuel no change, no problem.. How myopic..

Farouk Lawan.. I dey laugh..

Ofcourse he would go scotfree, because, Nigerians are only interested in the gist of corrution rather than fighting it.. Just like the subsidy gist, the 2 billion Naira Pension scam gist, Demeji Bankole gist, this one will also end as a gist.. I'm sure by the end of July a new gist would have surfaced..

If anybody believes that 1 senator/rep would chop 3 million dollars bribe alone without paying off atleast 10 to 20 other reps/senators and even the Speaker of the senate and reps, then una dey fhuck up..

The problem is illiteracy. Fuel price increase touches the very basic level of livelihood of every Nigerian no matter the class. I agree its a useless situation. You also have to doff your hats the way any scandal is quickly turned into an ethnic/religious issue. These people KNOW (not think) Nigerians are fools.

So far so good, Tinie and Dizzee are about on the same level. Though, Tinie is looking like he's gonna be bigger if we take into account his collabos with american artistes. Even at that, it isn't gonna be by much. I still don't see Tinie pushing significant numbers in the US. That he's all up on MTV, Trace and BET doesn't count for much if the numbers aren't moving TBH.

However, I'm not sure Dizzee is Nigerian.

Wale should be on Nneka's level or higher. Forget about the difference in style of music. We can't say Dare is bigger than Psquare for instance.
Music/Radio / Re: D’banj Signs Davido To His New Record Label by revomind(m): 2:34pm On May 19, 2012
Well, @bash, Femi Kuti has two grammy nominations and a number of hits popular not just in Nigeria but in Africa generally 'Bang, Bang, Bang' comes to mind.

Safe to say a lot more people than 'Amala eaters' care about his music. He is definitely not as big as his father but anyone who listened to his father must have atleast checked out Femi's music.
I agree Sunny Ade is only huge as far as Yoruba peeps are concerned but considering the vast wealth he amassed, Yoruba peeps can be forgiven for thinking he is bigger than he actually is.

Dbanj/Don Jazzy palaver isn't a tribal thing. Anyone who tries to turn it into one is only being foolish. Jazzy signed Tiwa, Wande and Dr sid, all non-Igbos. I think Dbanj's publicist or something is one Igbo chick, it aint about ethnicity. Sometimes you get the feeling its only on this forum ethnicity becomes relevant.

Fifty Cent actually signed Yayo , Young Buck and Lloyd Banks. Lloyd Banks especially because he felt he was going to be the next big thing in rap in a few years. Didn't work out that way needless to say.
You people should try to learn so you can comment on issues without looking like ignoramuses. Akon signed Psquare and May-D is signed to Square records. Kanye was (not sure if he still is) on roc-a-fella but didn't stop him from having G.O.O.D music with artistes like John Legend, Consequence and now Big Sean, Dbanj and Pusha T.
Davido happens to be one of the hottest cats in the music scene these days, i don't think its a bad idea. That the record label is undisclosed to you and the media doesn't mean it is to Davido and his advisers.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Who's Greater - Mugabe (Who Took His Peoples Land Back) Or Mandela (Who Didn't) by revomind(m): 11:37am On May 11, 2012
odumorun 1: Interesting question from an enquiring mind that has refused to be colonised by the western media's love in with Nelson Mandela.

Let us be clear, Mandela's greatness as a person must remain beyond dispute. His immense personal sacrifice, 27 years of his life in a racist jail, choosing to remain there rather than renounce his people's right to resist their dehumanisation has to be recognised. However his popularity with the west is not down to what he did for the blacks - helping them win freedom, it is down to what he did for their white oppressors - forgiving them their crimes and allowing them keep their stolen wealth after they lost formal political power

As for Mugabe, personally he can be cruel and vindictive, but his courage, personal (like Mandela) and political (unlike Mandela) cannot be denied. He fought in the bush for 11 years against Rhodesia's vicious racist regime and has had the guts to seize the land they stole from the original inhabitants. Mandela great man that he is, sometimes comes across as being a bit more concerned about what is said about him in the editorial columns of the world's great newspapers than the genuine interests of the shanty town dwellers whose blood, sweat and struggles brought him and the ANC to power.

Mandela's greatness they say is down to his lack of 'bitterness' against his enemies, inspite of the terrible crimes they committed agsint his person and above all, his people. In that case since imitation is the sincerest form of flaterry, why don't the west also show the same forgiveness to their own enemies.

Look through history and point out just one instance when any Asian, Arab or African who harmed white people has been treated with anything but the most ferocious brutality. The Nazi's (white caucasians) kiled 6 million European jews, none of their leaders were tortured by the victorious allies. Al Quaeda killed 3000 Americans, they put so much electricity up their backsides, the Iraqi national grid is still to recover its electrical capacity

When a dark skinned person harms white people - they always call for justice

But when a White skinned person harms dark skinned people the call changes to the need for 'truth and reconciliation'

Mugabe refuses to play that game, that's why they hate him

Mandela plays it brilliantly, that's why they love him

Some food for thought right there.
Politics / Re: Danger Looms In The North? Gov Shettima Raises Alarm! by revomind(m): 11:30am On May 11, 2012
I feel really sorry about the situation up north. I spent signifacant time there in Kaduna. What people need to realise and come to terms with is that first and foremost, we are all human beings. Calling them names just because you feel they are different or because of their era in our history when their elites were undisputed masters of the country is lacking in class and decency. Those guys aren't the ones in hardship and I tell ya, before they feel the brunt directly, it would already be a national issue. Life is becoming harder and harder up there to the point the normally docile northen masses are gradually turning on their elites.

That being said, the North does not deserve any special treatment any more than any other part oif the country save for the niger-delta. The North is still quite huge even if you remove the sometimes hostile christian minorities from the equation. Why not back a conference of some sort, ask their representatives and the political claass in general to do a soul-searching and work towards the attainment of true federalism, freedom from the more stagnating aspects of religion...all in spite of the initial pain. The bottomline is that this would place them in a good state, preparations wise, for a possible dis-integration of the federal republic of nigeria. Otherwise, in the long run, the region would reclaim its proud position in a truly federal republic.

RoadStar:

Good at least for once we are getting there.
Nothing stops you from taking my position which is that, even though theres no evidence that Sanusi is Boko Haram, he has completely misrepresented the true situation with regards Northern poverty.

Sanusi will never admit this but the problem in the North today is cultural
As he is a product and has profited from the prevailing circumstance in the North.

Terrorism, Violence and Poverty are just but a few products of this Northern culture.

A culture that doesn't take Education seriously.
A culture that does not encourage entrepreneurship and competition. (With Sanusi even encouraging this with is Islamic Banking Obsession)
A culture that does the least to empower women, who by the way constitute half of a society's adult workforce.
A culture which imposes religion over other aspects of life, which is proving to be retrogressive.

Sanusis line of thought that Economics is just about money and the fact that Sanusi sees it so is just lame.
It further exposes his ineptitude an Economist.

Economics ecompasses Culture, Religion, behavioral, Monetary, Macro, Micro, Political, Education , The list goes on and on
http://econ.ucsb.edu/aeastp/pdf_files/fields.pdf

This is a man who is a product of this retrogressive culture.
Who ran a bank and Now the Nations central banker, having just a first degree in Economics and no other postgraduate qualification relating to finance or economics but preffered to go and do Islamic studies.

Only In Nigeria.
Just like in 1954, Southern Nigeria is ready to progress but the north is not.
And that is and has always been the problem.

That is all.

The North is filled with pseudo-activists whose main obsession is with criticizing the Federal Govt and its political allies in the states . I will admit Sanusi was one of a kind in his time as such an activist. But for me, the northern elite without any significant exception will not admit the basic reason for the backwardness up there( which you have succinctly done) Sanusi won't. El-Rufai won't and neither will Ribadu. This is because they are all beneficiaries of the system. While criticising Abacha, Sanusi couldn't help but condescendingly refer to him as 'Son of a cigarette seller' !!! I've also read articles where Sanusi referred to the hausa, nupe , kanuri as inferior to the fulani. This is the mindset.

How do you get the almajiris off the streets and into proper schools? You ask this questions and they regale you with silly tales of how its part of their religion and how some of the rich even let their children go through it. Lies upon lies. If educating children is still a problem in this day and age, then we should forget about women empowerment for now up there because even more advanced muslim societies are still grappling with that .Since culturally, western education is a problem up there and nothing has been done to change the situation, one has to see it as deliberate . The Northerners never have a shortage of qualified people to occupy influential positions in almost all areas of our national life . Then you think of the riots, the threats , you should connect the dots.

You can pump all the money you want into the north, nothing will change. The elites will keep doing what they do, looking out for each other, living princely lives and slyly employing religion and ethnicism in maintaining the status quo. The poor is the sorry loser in all of this and regrettably, most times they don't know!!!

What will change this attitude is real federalism. When they have to fend for themselves and the excuse of a economically greedy and dominant south is no longer usable, they will be forced to actually provide and be at least minimally responsible for their masses. Unfortunately, most northerners are averse to this idea.

Jarus has been clutching at straws. Before now, I perceived him as an "intellectual defender" like naijaking but so far on this thread, with the issues raised and his weak rebuttals, he is looking more like an attack dog.

I' m indifferent about Mr Sanusi but I think we need to be more careful about the man. Its true that "Christian South" is the generic term used by the Western Media . At the same time, one cannot help but think Sanusi is aware of this and chose to exploit that half-truth to spread this propaganda. It sounds like an excuse to me and his interview suggests the review of wealth distribution as a solution. I feel this is arrogant and dishonest. It also smacks of tribalism/regionalism. It wasn't mandatory that he speaks out on the issue of terrorism in the north. If this is all he had to offer, then he did himself and his precious Northern Nigeria a great disservice.

As for his involvement in the massacre of an innocent man in the early 90s' violent religious crisis in Kano, its very interesting Eghes is ready to be dragged to court to prove his allegation. For me, that he can claim to be in Sudan during that period or under the appointment of some Merchant Bank doesn't really say anything. This is Naija. And for someone of his background, its all too easy to brush that history (if true) away from his resume.
Education / Re: Nigeria: 118 Students Graduate From Unilag With First Class Honours by revomind(m): 6:51pm On Feb 17, 2012
I think the school is doing a good job. Other schools don't produce first class students at this rate because the system in those schools one way or the other discourages people from achieving first class degrees.
It becomes annoying when people from other universities start seeing this sadistic approach to university education as the proper way thus failing to recognise and appreciate a school like UNILAG.
Regardless of these people who have become used to the unnecessarily hard system most of our big universities adopt , UNILAG remains a top Nigerian school which is well-regarded in the labour market.

Whether corruption is cultural or political, its needs to be addressed and it has to start from the top of the food chain

Simple.
That's why we elect leaders. Leaders are supposed to make tough choices. If we are an indolent people, we will not elect someone as leader to simply come and make us more indolent. When people are afraid, they look up to leaders for courage and inspiration.

We have weak institutions. That's why our corruption seems endemic. I'm afraid its not cultural.

I think its fundamental for Arsene Wenger to offload Chamakh in January and try to sign a very capable striker to complement Van Persie and Park, possibly.
Something needs to be done about Walcott. Its getting frustrating. The old excuse by his apologists was that the midfield was yet to gel. Now, today we saw great performances by Arteta and Ramsey and still, a very anonymous Walcott was all I saw.
The defence was okay today but for the life of me, that Crouch goal was simply too elementary. It appears there's still some distance to cover in trying to improve on defending setpieces.
Gervinho was fantastic today. He's gonna be a very crucial player for us as the season wears down.
Arshavin should never be allowed to start anymore loool. Such a supersub!
