Also you may need to apply to a different school. A recognized public 4yr college. Concord University is the likes of Devry University, Everest, Kaplan and the rest. Those schools are for profit only and will issue I20 to any student whether they qualify academically or not. The V.O's know this and I don't believe you were denied based on your speech difficulty, I strongly believe it was your choice of school.

I take back what I said early, I had confused Concord University with Concordia University. From what I see on your chosen school's website, it is a 4yr public college so you are good to go.

Kbsuper: All@ pls i applied 4 "computer & information technology" and dats wot feature on my admission letter but on my I-20, it was written as "computer & information science". So i'm a little bit confused, which one will i tell d V.O assuming he/she has collected my I-20 & admisn letter. Wil it nt b contradicting. Pls advice. Going 4 d interview in a couple of wks. WISHING ALL SPRING '13 APPLICANTS SUCCESS

That's not a worry. Tell the V.O the course you applied for when asked. The course on ur I20 is the closest to the course you applied for and the V.O's understand that.

Sevis substitutes courses that are not on their system for those close to the ones they have on the system.

knock out:

If you plan to attend the community college you were admitted to, I would suggest you have a change of mind. The possibility that a V.O will issue a F1 visa to a student with intent to attend a community college is very slim. The reason is this, the fact that you applied to a community college immediately shows the V.O that you have limited funds available to you for your education abroad because community colleges are way cheaper than 4yr colleges.

My two cents to you is that you start studying for the SAT, get good scores, apply to a 4yr college, you can transfer to a 2yr college when you get here.

And finally choose a course related to what you had previously studied in Nigeria, you can change you major as often as you wish here.

Mamacita007: My peeps, Is it possible for someone that has a diploma from a university like UNILAG (without OND) to apply as a transfer student even if he has been out of school for like 5 years now?

My friend attended UNILAG and when he got to his final year, they wont let him graduate because he didn't use his WAEC to enroll for classes originally so the degree has gone to waste just like that. Although he started with the diploma program first, he joined them in 200Level. He's trying to get his statement of results to apply for a masters program. Do you think that they will require him to present the certificate or should he settle for undergrad?

He can apply as a transfer ugrd, was he pursuing a Bsc degree? If he was, he needs to get a transcript of all course work he did while at Unilag, he is going to need that to apply to a US college and also at the embassy.

He should also be able to provide details of all he has been doing since he left Unilag (work experience, trainings etc), that would close the gap between when he left school n present.

Finally he has to be able to give the V.O a convincing explanation of why he didnt get a degree from the university he attended previously.

Have you tried the 'forgot username' option on the website?

passionate sci: pls house,am in need of SAT materials, my mail is agboluajebamidele@yahoo.com

Unfortunately, unlike GRE/GMAT, SAT study material is not widely available online. What I would advice you do is go to one of those bookstores at Yaba/Ojuelegba and ask for the Kaplan SAT study guide, I guess Barron's also have their version also. You can use that to study for the SAT.

Another thing you can do is go on the collegeboard website, under the SAT link, you can take simulated actual SAT test.

mr swagger: Hello nairalanders, I have a problem, I registered for the November 3rd SAT in Lagos. And my exam comes up in 4 days time and i have not received my admission ticket.
I just don't know what to do. I called the office where I registered but the man keeps telling me stories and made me waste a lot of money.
I tried printing out my admission ticket online through my collegeboard account but the page keeps taking me back to "update my Profile" and it keeps telling me invalid email address. And this was the same email address I used in registering for the SAT. Please help because I'm confused, I won't be allowed to take the SAT if I don't provide the admission ticket. And I have been practicing for the SAT for more than 7 months nw. The devil is a liar, all my efforts won't just go in vain like that. Pls who is having the same similar situation and who can help me out here.. Please I need advise and solutions.. Thanks.

You can also contact collegeboard directly, email them and explain your situation, they may ask you a few questions to verify your identity but they will be very helpful.

Hey Everyone! I was once an ardent follower of this thread. I got lots of information from this thread when I applied for an F1 visa last year (got it!).

But unfortunately, school work has kept me busy and I have been less frequent on the thread. I noticed that there are few people on the thread to advise, encourage and share experiences with people applying for undergraduate studies. Because of the benefits I got from this thread, I am pledging to come on the thread more frequently and scout out people esp. undergraduate applicants who may need advice or encouragement based on my knowledge of the process.

I applied for undergraduate studies when I got my F1 visa last year, and just to encourage other undergraduate applicants especially those who have been out of a secondary or post secondary school for a long period of time, don't be discouraged, but that is not to say you should be relaxed. There are several loopholes you would have to fix, in order to be considered for an F1 visa.

Like I said, I will be lurking around!

I had my visa interview 7am today at the Lagos consulate. I arrived at the embassy 6:15am and finally went it at about 7:45am. I was interviewed by the black guy at window 1. Here is how my interview went:
Me: Hi, goodmorning
Vo: ( I am not sure if he answered or not)
Vo: Why are you going to study, ( he mentioned my major)?
Me: i said something, i cant really remember now, but i related it to my career when i get back to work in Nigeria after my studies
Vo: Who is sponsoring ur education
Me: My uncle
Vo: why does he want to sponsor u?
Me: because i am family
Vo: did you write any test?
Me: Yes i wrote the SAT ( showed him my score report)
Vo: Why didnt you write TOEFL?
Me: because i scored high in my critical reading and writing, my school exempted me from writing that
Vo: show me ur sponsors bank statement
Me: showed him.
Vo: Tears me the green card and asked me to pick up my visa on friday.

Note: Pls excuse all typographically/grammatical errors. Its not really typing when u have just gotten a joyous news as good as this.

Am not anywhere near Lagos so that will be very difficult. Besides I already sent money to the US (with exorbitant charges) only for me to begin hear this kain story. Anyways, I have called the SEVIS office and they said my friend can pay in her name if the Western Union agent insists, and that they can update the information immediately after the payment is made so that my receipt will carry my own information.

You also need to download and print out the pdf form here http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/ , fill and mail it along with the money order.

Your friend can buy a 200USD money order in ur name and mail it to Sevis adddress, after a few days, you can check ur payment status on the fmjfee website and print your receipt.

Can one fill the DS 160 again after the initial filling? I noticed the confirmation number and barcode of the first application is on the appointment confirmation page.

On my I-20, my middle name is omitted, just my given name and surname were written. Should I be worried? when paying for the Sevis should i write my name as it is written on my passport or on the I-20? Quick replies please, thanks.

Hi guys, when submitting statement of account to your school for isssuing of I-20, what matters most? Account history or account balance? For example, if my school needs my sponsor to show that he can sponsor my first year of studies in the amount of 29k USD and my sponsor has good account history of multiple transactions to the tune 50k USD but only has a closing balance of about 10k USD now. Can I submit that? Thanks
