Amodu was a mumu when it came to substituions but lagerback's subs just showed emotion and no real tactics behind it. Sagamite you win this one the guy was a complete bonzo yesterday, he might understand the game but i am beginning to feel like he lacks the charisma to raise a defiant spirit inside an epileptic eagles.

I would have removed yakubu from the game simple! sent osaze up front as a lone striker that would drop back into the midfield to pressure the greeks. Then bring in another DMF preferably Ayila. Secondly haruna and etuhu were missing from that game, there was no closing down of the greeks nothing whatsoever I had to watch twice to see if it was amodu on the bench.

In my opinion, he will be a waste of money if we dont get into round two.

Well I am a bit at crossed roads as per who to blame but all fingers point directly at fifa. Is it not possible for fifa to ask all leagues to use it? and if not then why not give to a neutral company and ask them to adopt it ? At least that way it would have been balanced I am sure Nike would be saying over thier dead body would the jabulani be used in the UK grin grin grin now rooney cannot shoot.

medjai:

how is la-gay-back better than Amodu, no one's been able to answer. I saw Super Eagles worst performance ever on Saturday against Argentina where they had only one attempt at goal yet some people that will accept anything as far as it is from a white man are dancing and jubilating. A game where Lagerbacks game plan was to open the gates of our defence and resort to Enyeama's heroics. Some are even giving the time factor as an excuse. Was la-gay-back not aware of how much time we had before the world cup when he signed his contract? What did la-gay-back achieve with a Sweeden team that had Larsson, Ljunberg, Ibrahimovic and the likes? the farthest they went was the 2nd round of the world cup in 2002. very poor. For those that call that shambolic display against Argentina a good performance, check this link

It can. . . . . . .

There's no way Villa wouldn't have scored with his in-step FATALITY.
He has used that technique to score 40 times out of 40. The flight of the ball when he applied the same technique today was weird.
A whole David Villa, missing a sure-banker like that? I could put ma life on the life for him not missing such.

The Germans have an advantage over the others.
No wonder Lahm looked like a world class player.
The same Lahm that Nani sodomised for more than 180 mins in April. Rubbish.
I think I agree with you Sauron those Germans looked too comfortable on the ball, way way way way more comfy than brazil, even robinho had his shot zipping all over the place. JAbulani wahala!

Me thinks Fifa's hands might have been tied sha or is it not possible to force all leagues to use it?

~Sauron~:

In all HONESTY. . . . .There's a big conspiracy with the JABULANI. . . . .
This world cup has been designed to favour the Germans(No wonder they are the biggest WINNERS yet).

When ADIDAS designed this EVIL ball in January, they rolled it out to Bundesliga for control experiment.
In other words, German players have had sufficient time(more than 6 months) to practise with this ball thus mastering the arts of kicking it.

While EPL/La Liga/Serie A players were SAMPLING the old balls, the Germans were busy with the JABULANI.
Isn't this an undue advantage designed to favour the fuckin NAZIS?

No wonder Ronaldo's shot hit the bar. . . . .Alonso hit the bar. . . . .Crosses are getting overhit/underhit.
Heskey shot straight to the keeper and David Villa's in-step fatality(100% GOAL-GUARANTEED) went over the BAR.

If Germany wins this world cup, i will sue SEPP BLATTER.
Can it be a joint suit?

Nigerian Comment: Doomsday Postponed!
Shuaibu Amodu can breathe a sigh of relief temporarily after his less than impressive ‘Super’ Eagles managed to scrape out a dour single-goal victory over their regional neighbours, the Squirrels of Benin. But can any Nigerian truly assert that they too can breathe freely?

Many football fans would no doubt answer in the negative, as the display of the team was only typical of the level of competence of the man in charge.  With this victory, Amodu and his gang of Chicken-breeders have only succeeded in pushing forward doomsday one game further.

Though there was a slight improvement in the team’s play relative to the first outing against the current champions, the Pharaohs of Egypt, the team still maintained that incoherent and untidy attitude. The lack of technical play in the team was all too evident, and the team was unable to manage one single counter-attack during the entire game. They were static, with no fluidity amongst the various departments; reflective of Amodu himself, who wore a perplexed expression throughout the game.

The Nigerian team’s showing was as interesting as watching paint dry. The side provided little exciting soccer artistry, if they still remember what that is, and it was just the individual determination from certain players that kept the side going.

Without any form of prejudice, I boldly assert that the better team lost on the day. The Beninoise team were unfortunate not to have won the game, and a little more experience on their side would have come in handy. Had Stephane Sesegnon and Rasaq Omotoyossi been a tad more clinical in their finishing, the Eagles would have broken through new lows.

Danny Shittu was undoubtedly the best player on the Nigerian side, closely followed by Dickson Etuhu, who was doing the quiet and yet dirty job in the middle of the pack. If these two players had not instilled their individual brilliance on the day, Nigerian fans would have been singing a much different song now.

Much like the first game, Yakubu Aiyegbeni still continued to show his poor form, missing arguably the best chance of the evening for the Nigerians. My grandmother would have tucked away the sitter he threw away early in the first half.

His penalty kick that gave the team the game's goal was also far from impressive, and only the poor judgment from the Beninoise goalkeeper ensured the ball lazily strolled into the back of the net.

We should remain truthful to ourselves at this moment. The Nigerian team is still in tatters, and the short-term remedy lies in a total overhaul of the technical bench

Sagamite, in all honesty. . . . . .Ibrahimovic was pants on the night.
He didn't use his height to his advantage and Lucio/Samuel axis kept sodomising him.
Guardiola knew he had to change his tactics and he pushed Pique upfront to be supported by Messi, Bojan and Pedro.

Pique scored and Bojan had 2 chances. . . . . Bojan missed a sitter when he headed wide, and he scored a goal that was disallowed.
Had one of those gone in, we would be sitting here praising Pep Guardiola.
His tactics worked and Barcelona were closer to getting a goal when Ibrahimovic went off.
I thought no one would point this out oh, Sagamite give lars a chance na, IMO there is an improvement in the team oh I just cannot shake it amodu was a dunce!

Education / Re: General Question On Graduate Studies In Us, Uk Or Canada by SCYLLA: 11:42am On Jun 08, 2010
I have an idea- TAMU probably operates under the 30-36 credit system each year, and it cost around $502 for each credit system, so it would cost around 15,000 dollars minimum for a year of tuition. Trust me this is cheap. Private schools cost 2.5 times more.

So its likely it cost $15,000 for course work each year for TAMU- do some research on this though.

It takes approximately 1.5 to 2.5 years to complete a masters at TAMU

I think we have to break it down so anyone reading this would understand. I am sure cost would be divided mainly into
[li]Tuition[/li]
[li]Living expenses[/li]
[li]Accomodation[/li]
So 26,00 is just for tuition or every thing?

The Financial Aid Office’s basic budget for new graduate students including tuition and fees, books, supplies, transportation, room and board, incidental and living expenses comes to about $20,000. Total expenses for returning students during an academic year should be slightly less than those for new students. The cost for new nonresidential and international students is about $26,000.

@dayokanu
I dont know if the guy is an arsenal fan, I just found his editorial amusing. My mind kept going back to the John Terry - Man city saga and I know there are subtle differences but I think the man made some strong points like

Would the dressing room of Tony Adams, Martin Keown and David Seaman have stood for it?

The likes of Robin van Persie and Gael Clichy are now older and wise enough to handle Cesc's split loyalties. But what of the young foreigners coming through like Gilles Sunu and Ignasi Miquel? How will they be influenced by their captain's actions in putting Arsenal second to his constant pining for a Barcelona return?

and this one
But no-one in Spain, despite Cesc's world-wide appeal - thanks to his prominence at Arsenal - will claim that he is a superior player to prospective Barca teammates Xavi and Andres Iniesta. And neither of them, for all their success on the pitch, enjoy the same recognition around the world as Cesc.
I really cannot say about iniesta but fab is way way behind xavi if you ask me and I still feel xavi has got two or three good seasons left in him, but I must admit that if fabregas were in the La liga, he would not at least have as much popularity as the premiership. Take david villa for instance, he is a world class striker, up there with the best of the best but his transfer to barca seems already like ages ago. Just my two cents anyway.
On the other hand who the bloody heck is Jack Wilshere? IMO he did fine till he whipped up the whole English sentiment.
Education / Re: General Question On Graduate Studies In Us, Uk Or Canada by SCYLLA: 10:20pm On Jun 07, 2010
I would suggest you consider the cost of these schools before deciding. Cos If you have no funding, you dont want to be stuck in the middle.

Texas A&M has Pet Engr in College Station but unless you are paying in state it might be expensive.

Check LSU and Oklahoma as well
Thanks, I am actually confused as to how to calculate the total cost. In UK schools they give you the lump sum, but it seems its different in the US where they charge based on credit unit, are you familiar with how it is calculated?

For instance in the cost for this program at imperial college is about 20,000 pounds ( I hope I am right) and that is the tuition, and that of texas A & M out of state school fees (assuming the worst) is about 13,000 dollars is this for just one semester? or the whole program?

- Refer to my previous posts. It is also possible to get jobs in other countries. This is quite possible. Be proactive. Drop your resume with oil companies in France, the Middle East, UK and Canada. Call and find out if they accept you and emphasize your graduate skills to them.
I would be taking you on this later, for now how about we come up with some sort of road map that students can follow?
Education / Re: General Question On Graduate Studies In Us, Uk Or Canada by SCYLLA: 8:41pm On Jun 07, 2010
- I would advise you to add more schools. Graduate school admissions especially for Texas A&M and University of Texas are very very intense especially in the field of petroleum engineering. Considering the fact that Texas (Like Aberdeen in the UK, and Alberta in Canada, is the center of a significant amount of oil activity- it would be understandable why these two schools would be the top choices for petroleum engineering. LSU and Oklahoma, though less difficult than both schools are still difficult for the same reason. Louisiana and Oklahoma have a large number of oil companies based there.
In fact when my cousin say LSU I first vex am oh, I say which one be state university for the matter but it seems the school is a good school I would definitely add that, but is there no cap on the amount of schools one applies to, I read somewhere in the general visa thread about someone who was asked how many schools he applied to, I dont know if it is relevant but how much would be optimum?

- This depends on the program. Usually graduate schools in the US evaluate US students based on research experience, recommendations, SOP, GPA and GRE. For foreign students from countries like Nigeria, where research opportunities are rae, they would evaluate you on related work experience. So Yes, relevant work experience does play a role. So I am not talking of just being a cyber cafe manager and applying for petroleum engineer, but working as a field engineer for an oil company or something in that respect. Working on particular projects that involve research are further important. You should emphasize these work skills in your SOP.
O boy there is no research in this country, the only time I worked in the oil industry was during my IT like I said earlier and it was a six month stint. But there is not I can do now, our applications have to go in by december no?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Time For Wenger To Strip Cesc Of Arsenal Captaincy by SCYLLA: 10:54am On Jun 07, 2010
Chris Beattie

EDITORIAL: Even if Cesc Fabregas's time at Arsenal doesn't end this summer, his reign as captain should.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger must accept giving Cesc the captaincy has proven a long-term mistake, with the player's public shows of affection towards Barcelona devaluing the status of being the top man at Emirates.

You can't question Cesc's commitment to Arsenal on the pitch. Last season he left us one of the great cameos in Premiership history with his amazing 27-minute brace against Aston Villa. It was stunning. He was magnificent and the performance will go down as one of the greatest seen at Emirates.

But being club captain goes beyond deeds on the pitch and at the training ground. It's about setting and maintaining a culture at a club. A commitment to the cause. Is it any longer good enough for Wenger to have his top player touting himself to his hometown club? And what affect has Cesc's Dad, Francesc, had on the stability at Arsenal when he is also talking up his son's return to Spain regularly in the local media?

Would the dressing room of Tony Adams, Martin Keown and David Seaman have stood for it?

The likes of Robin van Persie and Gael Clichy are now older and wise enough to handle Cesc's split loyalties. But what of the young foreigners coming through like Gilles Sunu and Ignasi Miquel? How will they be influenced by their captain's actions in putting Arsenal second to his constant pining for a Barcelona return?

On the pitch, Arsenal will survive Cesc's sale. In Jack Wilshere, Wenger has a player who will easily fill the void left by the Spaniard. You can understand the Frenchman wanting one last season from Cesc before introducing Wilshere as a 20 going on 21 year-old to boss his midfield.

But if he is to keep hold of Cesc, then it shouldn't be at the cost of devaluing the captaincy and destabilising the club.

I would argue giving the leadership role to Cesc at such a young age has been counter-productive. With the armband has come endorsement deals and a new global profile for Cesc. It's created the illusion that Arsenal need him more than he needs the Gunners.

Peter Hill-Wood, the Gunners chairman, is right. This is what is waiting for Cesc at the Nou Camp. Yes, there will be trophies in a remarkably uncompetitive La Liga, but a regular place in Barca's midfield? Greater endorsement deals than what he enjoys as a high-profile Premiership player? It's a stretch to say this is a guarantee.

In contrast, Arsenal will welcome into the first team an English player in the form of Wilshere not seen since the days of Glenn Hoddle. On the pitch he will excite fans across the world and off it , he will have Arsenal's moneymen rubbing their hands with glee.

Life will move on for Arsenal without Cesc. But Wenger needs to end the uncertainty and find himself a new captain to set the right tone through the club.

Hello Guys,
Nice thread you have got going here, it seems this thread is even doing more work than its original title suggested. I have always thought that graduate people were under represented in this section. Do you guys think it would be nice to raise a thread here specifically for grad education in the US, Uk and Canada? I see a lot of you already have the experience in such matters.

Now to my own wahala oh  grin grin

I am preparing to write GRE in three months, I started two weeks ago and I sucked so bad at the verbal section for one reason, I did not know the meaning of most words and it was becoming frustrating so I decided to use the wordlist while learning the various sections and my results improved drastically as much as 18/20( I have really only covered Antonyms and analogies so far).I don't know if it is good practice to learn it this way, but what I set out to achieve is to know the techniques behind these sections and not get frustrated by the meaning of the words, such as building bridges in analogies and so on. I plan to go through all the sections like this, then go back to the word lists and then take practice GRE tests in barrons. Finally I would do GRE CAT tests with kaplan's premier cd, all of which I got online ( I am a bit internet savvy). However I am saving studying quantitative and analytical writing for last mostly because I am of an engineering background which brings me to the next problem.

I am supposed to choose four schools to go along with my registration for the GRE ( I hope I am right), I am not too crazy about the whole RA or TA thing although it is a little factor, my first priority is to study in a very good school and I know this would not be easy especially as I have got no real working experience( save for a 6 month stint at NNPC). I studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt and graduated in December 2009. I finished with a 2:1(6th best) with a CGPA of 3.90/5.0 in what was the best set the department has had since its inception (which was 0 First class, 20 2nd Upper, 20 2nd lower and 10 3rd class all out of a class of 160 people  grin grin grin grin ). I want to study for an Msc in petroleum engineering as I would love to specialize in drilling or reservoir engineering.

From all the research* I managed to do online I managed to come up with a list of four schools
[li]Texas A& M[/li]
[li]University of Texas at Austin[/li]
[li]University of Oklahoma[/li]
[li]Louisiana state University[/li]
I had colorado school of mines in place of LSU but a cousin of mine currently doing his MSc in the same course at Texas A&M told me the school was relatively expensive and I should consider LSU. I had written to the grad department at the University of texas at austin and the reply I got was that because of the high number of applications they take only first class students, I wonder how true that is. Anyway in summary these are my questions

1. Is my list realistic? or do I have to add more schools to it? ( I think I have to pay extra for that)
2. What do you think my minimum GRE score should be if I am to be considered with my background?
3. How much does work experience weigh in getting positive responses?
4. What is life like in the US after one finishes grad school, I intend to at least gain very good working experience there before maybe returning to Nigeria. I know there is a financial meltdown but compared to the Uk and Canada what are the chances of securing one?
5. In the event that I cannot get one immediately, what options are available?
6. On the issue of Canada I also intend to send an application to the University of Alberta, I hear very good reviews for Canada but I am still surprised that many people do not consider going there especially as I have heard that they have less immigrant visa issues, is there anyone that can throw more light on this?

Finally, I know some of my questions are like I am already thinking too far, but I always like to take in at least a perception of what the big picture looks like before and when I venture into anything, furthermore I think my post might be a good starter for the graduate studies thread, but abeg o you gurus should open it oh  grin grin grin grin.
