Culture / What Is Osu And How Do I Know One When I See Him/her? by shy1amy(f): 3:47pm On Dec 31, 2007
A very close friend of mine who has been dating an igbo guy for over 6 years now, infact they ve been engaged hoping to get married very soon, they traveled last week for introduction but my friend called me last night crying her eyes out on the phone, i even managed to hear what she was saying

Her fiance's people did not approve of the marriage, the guy's family said over their dead body will their son marry my friend (because they said shes an OSU) embarassed

My friend never knew she was an osu (thats if theres anything like that) shes going crazy over this issue because she and the guy are madly inlove, now they plan to run out of the country to get married and raise their own family.

I am confused and don't know what advise to give my friend for now because I don't know what OSU is and the implications it comes with.

Please my fellow Igbo Brothers and sisters, can anyone explain to me what OSU is, I leanrt its a traditional thing, how can you tell if someone is an OSU and most importantly what should be a Christian's view about this OSU thing please?

Health / Depression - What Is It? (a Most Read) by shy1amy(f): 1:38pm On Dec 14, 2007
Depression - What is it?

Depression is a condition that can take many forms, from the short lived feelings of sadness that most of us suffer in response to disappointments of everyday life, right up to severe depressive disorders, which require treatment. At any one time over 400,000 people in Ireland experience depression.

A depressive illness is an overwhelming feeling which dulls thinking, impairs concentration, saps energy, interest in food, sex, work and everyday activities and disrupts sleep.
Depression - How to Recognise It

The symptoms of DEPRESSION are as follows:

•  Feeling - depressed, sad, anxious or bored
•  Energy -tired, fatigued, everything an effort, slowed movements
•  Sleep - waking during the night or too early in the morning, oversleeping or trouble       getting to sleep
•  Thinking - slow thinking, poor concentration, forgetful or indecisive
•  Interest - loss of interest in food, work, sex and life seems dull
•  Value - reduced sense of self-worth, low self-esteem or guilt
•  Aches - headaches, chest or other pains without a physical basis
•  Live - not wanting to live, suicidal thoughts or thinking of death

What Causes Depression?

Depression is frequently preceded by setbacks in life, such as bereavement, relationship or financial difficulties, problems at work or medical illness. We all react to loss with a sense of disappointment, which in its impact can vary from mild to disabling. An inherited tendency towards depression is a major factor in determining how depressed a person will become following a loss.

Depression - The Different Types

•  Reactive Depression: This is an extension of the normal upset feeling following an unhappy event in a person's life, such as the death of a close relative or friend, marriage break-up or loss employment. Typically a sufferer will feel low, anxious and often will be angry or irritable. For some people reactive depression can follow even minor setbacks, as the individual's personality leaves them particularly vulnerable to disappointments.
•  Unipolar or Endogenous Depression: While this is primarily a biological or inherited condition, disappointment will often provoke its onset. The typical symptoms are those outlined in the Festival list of symptoms, where there is extreme tiredness, slowed thinking, impaired concentration, waking during the night and tending to feel worse in the early morning.
•  Bipolar Disorder or Manic Depressive Illness: The symptoms of the depressed phase of bipolar disorder are identical to those of unipolar depression, but, in addition, there are also episodes of elation or mania with which the depression alternates. Although elation is usually considered a pleasurable experience, it often has a devastating effect on a person's life. Its symptoms are as follows:

•  F eeling - elated, enthusiastic, excited, angry, irritable or depressed
•  E nergy - great energy, 'never felt as well', over-talkative or over-active
•  S leep - reduced need for sleep and marked difficulty in getting off to sleep
•  T hinking - racing thoughts, pressure in the head, indecisive, jumping from one topic to another, poor concentration
•  I nterest - increased interest in pleasurable activities, new adventures, sex, alcohol, street drugs, religion, music or art
•  V alue - excessive and unrealistic belief in one's ability, or having grandiose plans
•  A ches - never tiring, being unaware of the physical symptoms of illness such as asthma, having muscle tension at the back of the head or round the shoulders
•  L ive - thinking that one can live forever, taking reckless physical risks or, if angry or distressed, feeling suicidal

Treatment

Depressive and bipolar depressive illnesses are extremely responsive to treatment. Over 80% of the most serious depressions can be quickly helped. Effective psychotherapies (talking treatments) and non-habit forming antidepressant medications enable people to recover from depression and help prevent recurrences. If given proper care, people with depressive and bipolar disorders can achieve recovery and lead productive and enjoyable lives.

Jokes Etc / A Cheating Husband Decided To Write This Letter To His Wife. by shy1amy(f): 11:04am On Nov 09, 2007
A Cheating husband decided to write this letter to his wife.

My Dear Wife,

You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, Being 54 years old, can no longer satisfy.

I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife, however, after reading this letter I hope you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18 years old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don't be upset, I shall be back before midnight".

When the man came home late that night he found a reply of his letter on the dining room table:

My Dear Husband,

I received your letter and thank you for your honesty about my being 54 years old. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 54 years old.As you know,I am a maths teacher at our local college.

I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, one of my students, who is also the assistant tennis coach. He is young, virile, and like your secretary,he is 18 years old.

You being a successful businessman with an excellent knowledge of maths you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference;

18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18.

Therefore I will not be home until sometime tomorrow."

Family / Things Are Getting Out Of Hand, Pls Someone Help Me Out! by shy1amy(f): 8:38pm On Nov 05, 2007
My Cousin was forced to marry a man she doesn't have any feelings for @ the age of 16, 22 yrs ago because he offered to take care of her father's bills for father was so sick and admitted in the hospital then for about a year and some months (there was no money to take care of him and his bills)

She wanted divorce some yrs back but her hubby refused to grant it, then in the year 1995 she ran out of her husband's house with her 3 kids (2 boys and a girl). and since then she left her kids @ home for her parents and came to stay with her boy friend in Lagos. She said her parents must carry the children's responsibilities because they were the ones who forced her to marry that man.

Things are getting out of hand now as her broken home is causing alot of problems for her kids (like her daughter just aborted a 4 months pregnancy) besides her hubby remarried and told the kids to come to him but they refused because they hate him.

She gets really mad each time I or anyone else tries to call her back to order.

How else can I approach her to go back to her hubby for the sake of her kids or even come home, take her beautiful and intelligent kids with her to take care of them?
Family / Mummies On Nairaland, Be Mindful Of The Daycare Centers U Enroll Ur Babies by shy1amy(f): 5:58pm On Oct 30, 2007
My auntie was supposed to resume work after 3 months maternity ,so she decided to enroll her baby in a day care centre.

She and her husband visited one of the daycare centres around their side when her husband discovered one strange thing going on in one of the inner rooms @ the daycare centre,

guess what he discovered?

He saw a middle age fat woman sitting in one of those rooms breast feeding babies, he walked up to her and asked "Madam, are all these kids your babies"? (thinking she had twins because he saw her breastfeeding almost 4 kids)

But the woman answered in yoruba language "The kids are not mine, they are other people's children, but the owner of this day-care center employed me to breastfeed the babies when ever they are hungry"

My auntie and her hubby left with their baby immediately knowing what they do in there, so be careful.

Dating And Meet-up Zone / "all Relationships Must Not Lead To Marriage" by shy1amy(f): 5:35pm On Oct 30, 2007
I and my friends were discussing sometime ago when we brought this topic up "All relationships must not lead to marriage"

One of my friends insisted that he can date any woman he wants and cut her off when he ever he choses to,

then I began to wonder how and why people would date a guy/girl you can't get married to later in life. To me, you must date someone that you love as in ,someone you can actually love to spend the rest of your life with.

Abi whats you guys opinion on this issue of "All relationships must not lead to marriage"?

(MAKE ANYBODY NO CAUSE CONFUSION FOR MY POST AGAIN O)

Romance / He Dumped Me Because I Fought Over Him (To Keep Him) by shy1amy(f): 6:48pm On Oct 26, 2007
I went to see my sweetheart two weeks back, on getting there i met the door open so i went sreight to his kitchen because i heard voices over there, i saw him in cooking with this girl he claimed is his "just a friend" she was sitting on a small chair in d kitchen (they were both discussing and laughing), I greeted them and excused myself to drop my bag, I returned to help my guy but he insisted he wanted to do the cooking while the girl (Rose) and I do the testing.

Later when we were having a good and private time I asked him his relationship with that Rose of a girl again and he said:

"Baby girl, I ve told u this b4, Rose is a girl from my neigbourhood, shes just a friend, although shes been trying to seduce me one way or the other, but you know I love u so much and can't leave you or cheat on you so chill"

I told him am afraid i don't want to loose him, i also told him to stop Rose from coming since shes been trying to seduce him because she might succeed one day but he assured me of his faithfulness to me.

Then I went to my guy's place last Sunday we both agreed but I met this same ROSE in the sitting room watching a movie, I was filled with jealousy but i chilled and went to look for my guy in his room but I was stopped half way by Rose and she said:

"Hey look here, can't u greet, and who do u think you are to bump into someone's house like that?"

i was boiling at this point so we exchanged words, one thing led to another which resulted into fighting, so on the process, my guy came in and left almost immidiately, he locked us inside the house and came back later in the evening to meet me sleeping on the rug while Rose was sleeping on the dinning chair, he woke us up and sent us out of the house.

I went back but he told me its over, he said am irresponsible and he can't afford to move on with an irresponsible woman.

So pls let me hear from u guys about this and to the LADIES: would u ever fight over ur man? and GUYS: how would u feel ur girl fights to keep u?
Family / You Must Get Pregnant Before We Can Wed! by shy1amy(f): 7:45pm On Oct 24, 2007
"You must get pregnant before we can get married"

How can a man who calls himself a God-fearing-man give his wife-to-be such condition? it is ungodly, yes it is. some people said its due to "fear of the unknown" why should you be afraid of anything if you really are God fearing?

To me it makes no sense at all, what if the woman gets pregnant before the wedding and after the wedding gets miscarriage?

Lets be reasonable and allow God to have his way in our lives for crying out loud abi my people what do u all think about this kind of condition.

If u were the woman in question what will you do and if you are the guy, can yiu give your wife-to-be such condition?
Health / Re: Abortion Pills by shy1amy(f): 8:02pm On Oct 22, 2007
I suggest u use preventive pills instead, abortion is murder oooo.

Just like the saying goes "prevention is better than cure"

You the guy may not know the implications of abortion but the woman should know better than that.

It can damage her womb or even kill her, so be wise Bro!

This is the one problem we have here in Nigeria "Criticism" we should encourage that guy, if all the facilities required is availale he would have done better than that, as you all can see he knows what it takes.

As far as am concerned, Nigerians are the best in everything and I am so proud of my country and her people.

If we were in the shoes of Americans, we would have done much better than them all. All Nigerians need is more knowledge, practical training and support, afterall, the man/woman who made the 1st helicopter must have done something similar to what this Nigerian guy did before he finally arrived at what we have today as Helicopter.
