Career / Re: Giving Up Banking For London South Bank University by vkings: 12:55am On Jul 20, 2011
@OP,

Please, read this

I am a petroleum engineering graduate from HWU with very good results. I also have very good results from my undergraduates.I have attended numerous interviews in the UK and a few in Nigeria. The problem I had with the UK coys were that the white guys performed as well as I did but were preferred. For nigerian companies, they don't even bother to invite me for test but I later found out the reason for this when I sneaked in to write all the numerous recruitment stages for an oil services coy in PH. Apparently, they didn't feel too comfortable with my MSc. I settled for a factory job over there in the UK which I did for about 2 years. Right now, I am unemployed here and currently in Nigeria.

Having an MSc from the UK and returning to nigeria without a job is one of the worst things that can happen to a graduate. I have gone through the personal depression stage that it doesn't shake me anymore. Right now as I speak, I have applied to all kinds of coys because my immediate goal is to survive. I use the factory job experience (having packaged my CV without my MSc appearing) to apply for supervisor position in manufacturing/production companies which is yielding fruit stage by stage. It might interest you to also know that I am about to take up a banking job just to survive. The moment any of the engineering coys come calling, I'm off.

However, I'm still trying out the O&G coys with the hope that something is still possible (hopefully after the passage of the PIB).
I'm just thirty.

My brother, a bird in hand is worth a million in the bush. Be wise, suspend going for MSc in the UK whether it's highly rated or not, I have VERY MANY colleagues like me who even have experience with MSc from Imperial and are still job hunting.
I'm not saying you cannot get a job with your MSc but UK is the wrongest place to go for studies now.

I 'm not you but if I were, with my banking experience, I'll apply for an MBA or a course in supply chain in CANADA not even US(because of the unemployment rate that keeps hitting the highest point) and get a PR which they'll give you after your study. Hence you can do whatever you want to do. Canada is also not too good because the cost of living is similar to that of the UK but it's better compared to the UK and US.

As for me, I don't think I'm going anywhere again except for visits,I've been to the UK and US. I think my destiny lies here in my home country. I'm very close to clinching my jobs after about 3 years. E no easy o. Depression get levels grin.

Most importantly, make a soul search and also ask God where your destiny lies.

A cousin of mine said just like Ajanlekoko has said earlier that the most important thing is that there's food on the table. The guy who also mentioned settling down made some sense.

Please, I'm not here to discourage you but just being realistic from my experience and many others.

THE WORLD IS RAPIDLY CHANGING AND I'LL LIKE TO END WITH WHAT SOMEBODY SAID SOMEWHERE(CAN'T REMEMBER WHERE)
"The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The wise adjusts the sails".

God bless you.

On the one hand, the fact that you returned from the UK after your Masters program counts for you. However, you'd have to explain why you need a second Master's program. I'd advice you include a letter in your application to buttress your point(s). Since I'm not in the VO's head, I cannot say for sure if you are going to be granted; it can go either way.

I'd think you have a better shot at obtaining a Visa for a PhD because it shows a progression in your education. It's another one month before Fall semester starts; most people are on vacations between May and August. You may be better of shooting for the Fall of 2012 and begin/resume your contact this Fall (2011) so that by January, you got everything wrapped up. Email and Phone are your only options unless you have someone in some particular institution that can meet the Professor on your behalf. Goodluck!!

Thanks Delta007.

Lately, I've been more or less inclined towards the PhD but now that you've given more light on the possible reasons for the lack of response, I think I'll keep trying peradventure my pull through someday.

Once again, Thanks Oshare.

@Delta007,

You seem to be unbiased in your contribution.

Please, What chance do you think I have as regards being granted a study permit? I did an MSc in the UK and now thinking of going for a PhD but I've not been able to get any response from the professors for supervision even while I was still in the UK. I'm now thinking of going for another MSc in canada if that's what it'll take for me to leave this country.

Do you think it'll be a wise decision to go for an MSc? or in other words, do you think I'll beat the VO to it if I opt for going for an MSc?

On the other hand, can you suggest a way I can reach any of those professors in canada rather than emailing or calling?

Thanks in advance for your response.

@ vkings,
Sorry this is coming late An Msc in oil and Gas eengineering in Uk is really a Blow, am still wondering why you want to change career path,becasue your present one is very good, anyway its your pick rigth, my best advice is applying for MBA in memorial, that puts you on the edge and makes your SOP less difficult they have an MBA program in oil and gas engineering also(a lot of cash though), this is the best route i can think of now because an MBA program is not limited to any profession . In the line of CDHC anything is possible,trust me, i have seen people that you won't believe had a chance get their Visa, guess that's where God sets in. You can start application to memorial now. You can drop your email so we talk better.
Cheers!

@eky102,
Thanks for the response but do you mean someone who had a good chance was denied? on what basis?
For MBA just like Engineering Management, I noticed they usually give admission to those who have considerable work experience and don't think I'll want to risk that for the only application I'll be sending to CDHC.

I'm still pressing on the PhD positions though. Again, do you think I should just throw start the PhD application while still waiting for the Professor to respond?

My addy is volanderking@yahoo.com.

@ Vkings,
Offcourse there is nothing wrong in having two masters degree, although not really Nigeria inclined but many people abroad do. You should just be able to convince the VO why you are embarking on the master program(by probably explaining a deficiency of your former degree). You have to construct a great SOP to that effect, that will depend on whether your prospective Msc is related to the former one.
But ideally if a may ask why do you want to pursue another masters degree. With a masters degree you should be able to get something doing here in Nigeria,except you don't want to work here. Give more details on your fomer masters course and the one you intend to pursue. Then we can lay more emphasis. Cheers!!

@eky102

Thanks for the response.
My former MSc was in an oil and gas engineering field but on coming here to nigeria, it's been pretty difficult getting something. It's either lack of experience higher positions or too qualified for lesser positions.
I'm looking at taking up a further MSc either something in Business or Engineering Management.

The truth is that I'm really tired of the frustration and disappointments in this country and will definitely like to change base. I believe my intending area of interest will open more options for me in Canada.

BTW, I'm thinking of Memorial Uni like most of you since it appears to be one of the cheapest.

Any more info that may be of help will be greatly appreciated.

hello guys,

Please, i like to know what you think about this.

I have an MSc from the UK already but yet no job. I tried applying for a PhD from the UK but all to no avail. My visa has run out already.

I'm currently in naija and now want to apply for another MSc since those PhD supervisors are not responding at all.

Do you guys think I have a chance of being issued the study permit for an MSc in canada from here in naija having obtained an MSc in the UK?

Hi guys,

Please, i have a bachelors degree in chemical engineering (2:1) in a federal university and have worked in a food production factory in the packaging/production department as a packer for about 2 years. I had to do this due to lack of job. I'm now trying to get any of production supervisor or quality control positions.

What should I do to get enhance my chances if i do stand a chance?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Everyone,

Nice to be a part of this thread.

Please, I want to start making arrangements towards studying in canada. My area of interest will be either in the Business or Management courses.

I will greatly appreciate if anyone here can advise me on what to do.

1) Is it through that it is difficult to do an on-campus programme for this area of specialization in canada i.e. what are the chances of getting a visa?

2) From your experience, which canadian schools are the cheapest in Business and Management courses?

3) Please, I 'll also like to know the entire steps to take from online application to visa issue.

You guys are really knitted together here and I hope I'll be accepted in here.

Wish everyone the best of luck.
Romance / Re: What Could Be My Problem? by vkings: 11:09pm On Jun 18, 2011
@poster,

The first thing you should do is try to stop the masturbation of a thing. To do this, I think you have to go for a deliverance because it's a spiritual problem. The only emission I know is the nocturnal emission (wet dreams) which happens may once in a while. So go for deliverance.I've heard testimonies of people who have been delivered from this sinful habit.

Then, you can follow the advice given below:

Cuddlemii:

@ poster

This sounds like the guy I know. Abi you have 2 names here. One for school related topics and one for romance. Ok sorry that one is 6 feet tall. Its the age that confused me and the storyline. But if its you and you just modified your status for discreet reasons its ok. I wont tell our friends.

If na you, then you need not worry cos you are intelligent, accomplished and have friends that care.

If its not you, sorry my bad. My advice is this. Go home and strip yourself unclothed. Observe yourself maybe you have an odour somewhere or your teeth has a stain or your posture or something. Do a proper make over and cleaning up but dont loose your personality in the process.

Listen to yourself speak, its another thing to write and another to be able to have an intelligent discourse with good diction, maybe you shell alot or you speak arrogantly or you dont wait for a response or reply before you make the next sense.

Then work on your charms jor, ugly men even know how to do their thing. You are fine, celebrate it. Let them come to you and wanna be around you even as friends first. Pass the right comments like 'that perfume is divine, that would make a perfect gift for my sister' Get your game on. Women like men who say the right things and are romantic flowers the whole works. chocolate -perfect afrodisiac. They love a man with confidence and pride, maybe you are too soft or pushy.

When you meet them, give them sometime before you call, women cant stand the waiting game as it arouses their interest, they wanna know more and see what makes you so tech to be taking your time. Be composed and never compliment on her looks too soon.

Unlock the secret weapon. Women like drama, suspense and uniqueness. call their bluff jor. When she was looking at u, you should not have smiled at her. You will form serious and get you phone out and use, that would have sent a message that you are the serz type and dnt pick up babes just like that. Later you can walk up to her and ask if you knew her from somewhere. A conversation starts!

@cuddlemii,

Men, u be pro o.
The last paragraph is exactly what happens to me and I use the method you stated.

It might interst you to know that Albert Einstein was regarded as a slow learner which resulted to his withdrawal but today, we all know became of him.

Also, I knew a number of friends who had this problem but today, they are dominating where they are.

Just watch out for those your brothers.
