Rotimi Amaechi,is Ikwerre man. Ex Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation under Buhari administration.

He is avowed Igbo Activist and a Chieftain of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Very passionate about his Igbo ancestry.

Now, compare him with Nyesom Wike who has denied his ancestry.

Wike is the Brain behind all this denial. Ikwerre man is Igbo. They were part of present Abia and Imo states before creation of state by Gowon regime for political expediency. This is to lent fibre to prosecute the war.
.
Amaechi has never said for one day he is Igbo. Amaechi said no one could deny him of his Igbos heritage. Heritage is different from ancestry. Google where Amaechi said he comes from when he visited the Deji of Akure. It is online. He said he is not Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba but he is Ikwerre.

Oil dey your head jare, this is only move a smart politician would've made since he notice Wike was giving him unsolicited head ache. This would've giving him an automatic edge over his former boss.

It is not too late, he can still join now to save his political career.
Wikes foresight and understanding of politics is unparalleled. Wike wouldn't have accepted to be a minister but the fear of Fubara reneging from their agreed terms made him to accept. The presidency then handed APC Rivers State to him. Fubara can only join APC Bayelsa or any other states. He is not in the good book of Tinubu. Have you forgotten that he threw into the trash bin agreement he signed before Tinubu? What makes you think that Tinubu will see him as a trusted fellow? No gree no gree always ends in regret.

There is hope for him to contest. He needs to contest to cut off Igbos vote so that Tinubu can win again. If the Igbos votes go to the north Tinubu will lose. So Tinubu will beg Obi to contest even if it needs buying form for him.

The only thing he would do is to run to APC for protection from Wike. Only APC can get Wike off his back. It's obvious PDP have failed to protect him. PDP is a big for nothing party.
Is it the APC Wike controls?

Your reasons are not appropriate. In fairness, before the colonial administration, Igbo people were not regarded as Igbo people in totality. While there are some clans in Igbo nation that may have identified themselves
with the word 'Igbos', majority of the ethnic groups that make up Modern Igbo nation were not called Igbos until the colonial administration. Many clans are known for the name they called themselves. Like Ndi Nnewi knew themselves as Ndi Nnewi, any other person from other areas were called Ndi Mba or Ndi mba mmiri depending on where they think the people come from. In fact, till today, some Igbo people will refer to Ezza, Abakaleke people as different, but that doesn't mean they are. The only connection between people those days were trade and sometimes marriage. There were no national or ethnic consciousness.
What makes anyone Igbo is not where they came from, it is language and custom. There are some Igbo people that claim to have come from Israel, while some said Igala, others said they come from Bini. Where they come from is not who they are, it is who they turned out to be.
Jamaicans and indeed, most black South Americans are vehemently disassociating themselves from Africa, denying they're Africans, even though they're black people. The reason is because they no longer have the culture nor the language. So it matters not where they come from, they're now who they're today.
My town, Nnewi, we are made up of people from different backgrounds but we are today Nnewi. That doesn't mean we are from same origin, but we became united by our language, then later united our customs and all that.
So, Ikwerre may be made up of people from Bini, Ngwa, and other people but the language they have today is Igbo dialects and the customs are Igbo custom.

Anyway, I am just concerned about the reason you have adduced to defend your ' Ikwerres are not Igbo" line. However, I believe that everybody has the right to self determination and you can be who you want to be whichever way you wants it.
Thanks for being civil. Your type is rare to find among Igbos online. British never coined the name Igbo. Igbo has been there even the British came. Although thinking differently I might be why Ikwerres call Igbos Isuoma. This name Isuoma is one reason an Ikwerre man will never accept he is Igbo. Good enough we have traveled and have seen countries sharing similar language but different people. Igbos should see us as that. There is no way more than a million people can have a believe that is false just as the whole of Ikwerre says they are not Igbo. This is from Rumurelu that is a stone throw from Umuapu to Ogbunabali that is far away.

You sound very much like some of my yoruba agbadorian people who are dubiously expert at labelling the white colour as black as long it suits their obnoxious and fraudulent narratives. grin
Can you see how pained you are? That is how I feel whenever you associate me with Igbo tag. Igbo is a big ethnic group and the tendency of annexing other related group is there. That is what we everyday want to let people know that despite our similarities that we differ. I can't answer your father's name because we look alike. Your father told you who you are just as my father told me. Ikwerre man only in language has some similarities with the Igbos but in every other way we are dissimilar. We don't travel you travel. This general madness can go as far as you want. Tell us what qualifies you to be a distinct ethnic group? All you have to show is an online post, that's all. Google the characteristics of an ethnic group and tell us how you are different from an Igbo man apart from online posts by revisionists

You're not making sense. Historically, all Igbo clans called other Igbos "Onye Igbo" or "Ndi Igbo" as if they themselves are not Igbo. Even in these modern times, if an Igbo man is talking about another Igbo man, the adjective he uses to describe him is "Onye Igbo." That means that every Igbo describes every other Igbo as Onye Igbo right from antiquity. That is Igbo culture. We all know that Ikwere started denying their Igboness ONLY during and after the Nigerian civil war. Why were they Igbos before Nigerian politics of crude oil commenced. I do not blame them. After all, those Igbos that maintained their heritage such as Obigbo and Etche are not better off due to British and Nigerian anti-Igbo politics. If Ikwerre are not revising history, why did they add R to their historically Igbo nmes such as Umuokoro and Umuigbo? How caan your village name be Umuigbo and you add R to make it Rumuigbo? Do you even know the meaning of Umuigbo? Children of Igbo.

As far as I'm concerned, you guys can come from stars. Real Igbo are proud of whom they are. The people I blame are ancient Igbo that couldn't stop the British conquest , not some foolish modern ones found in places like Ikwerre that do not know their right from theior left because of oil politics. Perhaps, if you guys were massacred like the people of Asaba, you'd have had reson to know who you are and not be tossed about like ship without rudder.

I pity your children who would be denied by Bini and maybe denied by Igbo. Already, Ikwerre land is the most confused in Southern Nigeria due to your craze to conform and be accepted by Nigeria due to petro dollar.
The barbaric nature of Igbos is one turn off for every ethnic group in Nigeria. You can differ with me without sounding insultive.
I am Ikwerre. I have no problem if you want to be ikwerre. But for sure ikwerre is not Igbo. Look at typical example of Ikwerre men like Wike does he have anything in common with am Igbo person? None.

Guy, my own clan in Anambra call Igbos of other states "Ndi Igbo" yet we are as Igbo as others. We call people from Onitsha "Ndi Onitsha" you will also hear "Ndi Nsukka, Ndi Abakaliki, Ndi Ndi Owerri, Etc" that's a normal reference in Igbo land. It doesn't make any of these places a distict ethnic group.

You can not have your entire existence and culture screaming Igbo from name to language to dressing to market days to kingship etc then wake up one morning to claim an ethnic group. Show me any other ethnic group in Nigeria that uses the traditional Igbo 4 market days? You have zero relationship with Bini politically and historically but oil and civil war politics is making the revisionists among you try to scratch water from the rock.
Can you answer this?
How did you know that you are Igbo?
Did someone from Abia come to tell you?
Now I say Bia and I say I am Ikwerre and you say Bia and you say you are Igbo. Is it wise I say since you say the same Bia with me that you are ikwerre? Don't you think Igbos are Ikwerres? Americans (US) were originally from Europe especially The UK. Today US is bigger the UK. If this had happened in the prehistoric times it would have been difficult to believe that US left the UK based on their present size and achievements.
Scientific studies have been carried out in Uniport even by Igbos scientists that established that Ikwerres and Igbos are distinct people. Please check this it is online. The scientists who carried out this studies are Igbos.
Language similarities do not happen only in Igbo and others. It is so in other peoples all over the world. Ukraine and Poland, Sweden and Norway, Finland and Denmark; Urhobo and Isoko, Yoruba and Itsekiri similar language different people.
Igbos should learn how to live with this reality.
Also tell me the Igbo word for Yes.

I am Ikwerre. There is no historical tie between the ikwerres and Igbos. My grandma was from Umuahia and said Igbos have always been a distinct ethnic from Ikwerres. That they called us NDI Ikwerre.
On the Bini connection it is hard for me to agree. But the closeness here is that the ikwerres have a lot in common with the Ekpeye. And the Ekpeye has a lot in common with the Binis. Now the Ekpeye claims they left Bini with the Iwhurnohna (Ikwerre) People. This is where the ikwerres keyed into the Benin narrative.
The Ikwerres have always said they are not Igbos. Ikwerres had Ogbakor Ikwerre in 1963 to identify themselves as a distinct ethnic group even before Igbos remembered to form Ohaneze Ndigbo in 1965. Ikwerre gathered in 1965 to declare their unique identity in a communique released in Rumuomasi even years before the civil war.

Igbos are widely traveled. They understand that Portugal and Spain speak similar language but different people. Indonesia and Malaysia but different people. Poland and Ukraine but different people. Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark similar language but different people. At home here Yoruba and Itsekiri but different people. Urhobo and Isoko but different people. Igbos don't drag Etche closer to them as much as they drag Ikwerres because Etche doesn't have Port Harcourt.
The worst thing you can do to an ikwerre man is to associate anything Igbo to them. Igbos know this and are deliberately doing this to smear ikwerre people with their dubious identity.
