OlowoTee:Kanu is cool-headed but simply jealous. He is also an ingrate because he'd forgotten so quickly that he grew up from the street. He was picked from the gutter just like millions of Nigerian youths out there who are struggling to showcase their talent to the world. If Kanu is interested in helping ailing kids instead of developing grassroot football where his competence lies, that is his problem. You also need to know that Kanu always solicit for funds from soccer stars abroad and philanthropists here, so faulting Rio's visit to EMPOWER Nigerian youths is a very wrong stance. khufu:That's the point! Leave it or take it!!!

@Topic This matter is very easy to understand, let's just reason from both sides We all know what effect a football academy has on a country, only one academy produced Eboue and the Toure brothers Kanu: What has he come to do? To examine possibilities of him starting up a football academy in Nigeria . . . and inspire the youths This is the same thing Viera did with the Diambars football academy in Senegal Kanu's View: Why Ferdinand? Ferdinand is one of the biggest names in world football and a true example of the rags to riches story Growing up in in the notorious Peckham where some of the guys he grew up with are either in jail or dead. Bringing Ferdinand opens the academy to the biggest sponsors around. Today, Cadbury and Adidas are major sponsors for Viera's Academy BTW Ferdinand currently funds a football academy in Uganda. Kanu: Why did the government have to pay? It shows the fact that the Lagos State is involved in taking the youths off the streets As tkb said, it's just the least they could have done to for the long term benefits Kanu: Why not any of the Super Eagles players? Ferdinand brings the global attention to it, and is that not how to get sponsors? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/7445008.stm |

Kanu apart, how can you use taxpayers money to do such a thing? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? If Rio wanted something good for Africa, he should've come to Lagos with his own money and not milking a dying cow the more with his stardom. I think these guys get some cash back from these ludicrous deals and that's why they keep doing it. Donald Duke tried that same bullshit when he was Cross Rivers gov by spending a fortune on American celebrities like Joe and R Kelly. Lagos state born NFL player, Isaac Idonije did the same with Amobi Okoye and Osi Umeynoira last year. |

Mustay:WTF!!! Are you kidding me?? We're talking bout the one of the most important defenders in England and you're calling Kanu that's still begging for a contract!!! Ferdinand is a regular in a UCL winning team and a contestant for England's captain role. Who are we kidding? Ferdinand will attract more sponsors than the whole Super Eagles put together I don't just understand why we have to make a mountain ot of a molehill Remember he's not only going to advertise it, he'll be a major sponsor Why are Nigerians this myopic? Have you not seen Viera in Senegal? |

Mustay:Yeah so, in plain l'anglais, u're saying Kanu is currently more recognised than the capital's biggest export? Are we still talking bout the most expensive player in England here? |
Re: Kanu Challenge Lagos Govt Over Rio Ferdinand's Visit To Nigeria by Mustay(m): 5:21pm On Jun 26, 2008 |
What amount do you want an English club to hype its OWN player? Sheva was an expensive deal, how many goals has he sored for us? - so you see where the inflation occurs |

@ Mustay, Are u an illiterate? How can u compare Rio Ferdinand's fame to Kanu Nwankwo? Who is Kanu? Please. . . . . . . . .never ever compare any African player as far as fame is concerned to any English player. The way the English media package their players is top draw. . . . . . Rio will attract more mouth-watering endorsements more than all the super eagles team put together. |

Jackal: So who's talking off-point? Thank God you know the English are good at PACKAGING - maybe our people have to learn how to package their own too. It's bad packaging that has brought the EPL craze to us all! Kit and Jac have not yet told us how this stuff will benefit the children. Instead, Kit has told us that the 'law' allows the Governor to spend as he wishes Jack has even told us how much Nigeria will receive less if Rio was not used |

@ Mustay, I have vowed never to argue with ignorant people like you. Are u telling us here that Nigerian kids will not benefit from the whole street soccer project? Ferdinand going to Nigeria alone would spark the interests of sports giants like Nike, Adidas or what not. . . . Are u this fickle?? |
Re: Kanu Challenge Lagos Govt Over Rio Ferdinand's Visit To Nigeria by Mustay(m): 6:08pm On Jun 26, 2008 |
Jackal we feel the same way for each other I won't argue with people o! Me, am ready to accept defeat for this one. But your last post shows you've not gone through the posts on this TOPIC. Please read well! |
Re: Kanu Challenge Lagos Govt Over Rio Ferdinand's Visit To Nigeria by Jackal(m): 6:10pm On Jun 26, 2008 |
I don't have to read people's gibberish to form an opinion of ma own. You must never equate Kanu's fame to Rio Ferdinand's . . . . It's a big syntax error. Kanu is just jealous an Englishman has come to Lagos to steal his shine. Do i blame Fashola? Nope!!! We are talking of the player that lifted the Champions League trophy with Giggsy in May. That alone would attract major sponsors who would wanna sow into the street soccer projects. Kanu should go and suck a straw and look for ways to bring other projects to Nigeria. |
Re: Kanu Challenge Lagos Govt Over Rio Ferdinand's Visit To Nigeria by Mustay(m): 6:15pm On Jun 26, 2008 |
Jackal, some of the comments made by those who are not in support of this are:
[li]Kanu is uneducated, that's why he's saying this.[/li] [li]Lagos needs to boost her tourism, that's why Rio was invited.[/li] [li]Kanu is simply Jealous.[/li] [li]BRF is allowed under the 2008 budget (as defined by Dr. Kitaun) to spend some money on who he wants to spend it on.[/li] [li]All the players in the Super Eagles put together won't attract the kind of sponsorships Rio will attract.[/li] [li]Rio is more popular than kanu[/li] [li]Nigerians are so crazy about the Premiership; Rio is a UCL winner and more fans will come[/li]
|

Mustay: JackalBelieve me, I read every post on this topic The problem is most of 'em strike me as unecessarily myopic If you read my post too, you'll see what I explained But no, you decided to play the good ol' 'blame the british press' game Just imagine someone you posting a link to a thread saying Kanu and Okocha are popular And to start comparing their contracts was totally daft My dayzz . . .you frighten me |

elddee na u dey surprise me pass o! What Is Your Problem? Mustay: this dude I replied to wants to test how popular Kanu is. Is 't wrong to limit my search to Nairaland? |
Re: Kanu Challenge Lagos Govt Over Rio Ferdinand's Visit To Nigeria by Jackal(m): 6:37pm On Jun 26, 2008 |
@ Mustay, Please stop arguing and don't bury yourself in your own ignorance. Rio Ferdinand is more suited for this project than Kanu Nwankwo: PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the 1st time a foreign player would go to anutha country for Charity and stuffs. . . So whats the fuss about? Kanu should suck a straw and get his own ideas of making Nigeria better. |

Mustay: Now which dude were you talking about? I made a point that Rio Ferdinand is more popular than the whole of the Super Eagles put together And to contest my point, you put up a Nairaland link? C'mon, this dude is the face of 'The Kick-Out Racism' campaign Seriously . . . arguing on this topic is like saying Chelsea is greater than Arsenal |
