Hello House, easi, windy, topgunny, tammie, pummie, crazzyy, riskyyy, pumpppyyy and all

Kindly tell me whats your take on an offer to buy Springbank shares at N9. I know the bank has problems but I am ready for the long haul on this one.
What I would like to know is if there is any hope that the bank will come up soon (learnt that it is being run by CBN now) and what price it should go for as at now. If you were presented an offer to buy spring bank shares at a discount, would you go for it?
I checked to see how much it stopped at but got no information on that. and why is it not on the list? I expected it should be there even with no trade.

Kindly help
Kevinbash,i have noticed your name on the forum for sometime now and for u to even have considered buying spring bank without any assurance of good news saddens me.It shows u have not imbibed the culture and wealth of info on this thread.Consider why somebody will want to sell at a discount for u.Pleaseeeeeeee dont and i doubt if u can even get it cos i think its on full suspension.Look for other opportunities and dont even think of going on a long haul with a rickety plane. It might turn into another munich a la Manchester United.

I appreciate your concern and views. I happen to be in the know that the guy who wants to sell has urgent money issues but, thanks again, that wont be a place to put my dough.

My brother thanks for your question. Unfortunately, I am not in a position right now to comment on anything PO. My doctors are still treating me from the accident I sustained on the FBN PO and likely another surgery emanating from the ACCESS PO, as the one from JAPAUL is still pending! If PO means anything to me now it either stands for POST OFFICE or POLICE grin Only yesterday since MAY, I managed to pay in the FBN RETURNED MONEY without interest not even the 5% annualized!

That said, no matter how much of a neophyte we might be on this stock biz, there are some very simple questions I feel any investor should want to find answers to:
1) What is the position of this company in its industry?
2) How have been their performance?
3) What are their projections and focus?
4) Can I grow with them? And how long?
5) What is my investment objective?
6) What are my expectations
7) If I fail will I reasonably blame myself?

I would rather you answer those questions concerning Springbank; then you might be able to take a PRUDENT INVESTMENT DECISION. I have deliberately avoided spelling investment decisions for anyone. I see that it is not helpful to any individual. Anyone who tries to spoonfeed you is ACTUALLY not helping you. Answer your own internal questions, make your mistakes if at all, and you will learn.

Wish you all the best.

Cornerstone Insurance projects N10 share price in Q4
Posted Tuesday, February 5, 2008

Cornerstone Insurance Plc is a projecting a N10.00 share price before the end of the fourth quarter. Rasheed Bolarinwa, Head, Brand Management of the company made this disclosure to Proshare News and Investigations.

According to him, the company has put in place all the fundamentals to hit this projection and industry analyst has projected a N10.00 share price in the fourth quarter of the company’s 2007 financial year ending. “The market has been reacting to insurance stocks in recent times” he said.

He says that at the end of trading last year, the share price of the company was N4.00

and as at the close of trading yesterdays, the share price hit N8.90 kobo.

Bolarinwa disclosed that investors are happy with Cornerstone as a result of the right fundamentals it has put in place. “We have a new board and our strategic alliance with African Capital Alliance (ACA); an equity investor that has invested $26million into Cornerstone insurance to boost its capital base, investors would know that something serious is going to happen if they invest in the company” Bolarinwa said.

He says that all the companies that ACA has invested in so far have recorded a high level of success; thereby increasing returns to its shareholders.

The third quarter result made available to Proshare News and Investigations earlier showed the company made a Gross Premium of N2.3 billion in year 2007 compared to N1.9 billion in the corresponding year; which represents an 18 percent increase.

While it’s Profit before Tax (PBT) increased from N296 million in 2006 to N819 million in the year under review, indicating a 177% increase. In the same vein, its Profit after Tax (PAT) also increases from N207 million in 2006 to N572 million in 2007 showing a 176% increase.

Now they have really succeeded in frightening me! shocked The price of cornerstone hasn't touched 8.90 all week. Not even the intra-day high. I sincerely hope this was a typo on proshare and not some kind of spin.

DEALER'S PERCEPTION

DEALING RESEARCH
Today was a sellers market as huge quantum of buy activities pushed several stocks up. Many stocks traded at the highest
price for the day and a handful closed with maximum price appreciation of 5%; this led to a further 220 basis points rise of
the NSE All-Share Index.
Insurance stocks were generally unavailable as the hold-back from investors and speculators continued. As a result of this,
most insurance stocks traded less volumes than in recent sessions. Today, all other insurance stocks booked about 5%
appreciation except for Crusader Insurance, Niger Insurance and Prestige Insurance. With the expectation of more price
gains, there appears to be no end in sight for the bull run.
The banking sector also enjoying the market trend, saw First Bank close with unsatisfied bids at the highest price possible for
the day, while a market maker prevented Union Bank from sliding below the N45 mark, closing on bid a little above this
price. GTB went up by 1.6% despite the fact that huge volumes were traded. Zenith Bank, Afribank and FCMB were the only
price losers in the sector shedding 1.9%, 0.8% and 0.5% respectively.
Japaul Oil traded for most part of the session at the maximum price for the day but as offers came in unabated, the spread
dropped by 1.8%. C&I Leasing also recorded a trading pattern similar to that of Japaul Oil but closed on a flat note.
Transcorp, also enjoying a good run from speculative interests, topped the list of most traded stocks with an excess of 110
million units exchanging hands and this did not prevent it from closing with unfilled bids at maximum price.
W t th k t t i b lli h f th t f th k
The NSE All-Share Index was up by 43 basis points today, closing at 62,516.07 as against 59,125.48 the previous week.
However, the gains seen during the week have started to thin out as speculators and investors attempt to lock-in profits.
First Bank recorded a further 5% increase today, when a market maker cleared offers with a large bid at maximum price. It
closed with an excess of 30 million units in unsatisfied bids. The impressive half year result released by Fidelity Bank buoyed
its price by 5% to close with unfilled bids. Market forces favored FCMB and Afribank as they recorded 2.5% and 2.7% price
appreciations respectively. On the flip side, seven banks were on the losers' chat, with Diamond Bank and Bank PHB shedding
approximately 4% in share value. The outlook for the banking sector in the coming week is neutral.
Profit-taking continued for the second day running in the insurance sector. There were more declines than advances, and a
handful of stocks in this sector shed about 5%. Continental Reinsurance and Linkage Assurance finished the week unscathed,
gaining 5% daily throughout the week. Possible re-entries are expected to give a boost to stocks in the sector in the coming
week.
In other sectors, Japaul closed the week with a further 5% gain to return over 20 % for the week. It is likely that the stock
will see profit-taking mid week. Although trading at maximum price for the better part of today’s session, C &I Leasing still
had a marginal trimming of its gain to a 4.8% appreciation. Afroil enjoyed price appreciation throughout the week on the
heels of non-availability of supply and a possible slide is expected of Transcorp in coming sessions as an onslaught of supply
at the tail end of today’s session suggest a possible release of offers early next week.

To be true i only chose the first two i.e ZENITH and GTBANK based on some hearsay and some instinct. GT because, there is this rumour that dr may be bonus, and the fact that the Bank has not done a public offer- ( though someone called my attention to the DGR of a thing. I just feel this is abt the best time to take position. Am i right pls wht do you think?? As for Zenith, i knew there will be a bull run on the stock but im not sure for how long, unfortunately it was bought at a very high price of #53.34, will it ever get me the desired return?? The Linkage ass. is purely my brokers decision, i only told him to get some insurance by all means, and he got some linkage. Plz i need advise on that. The interest rate is 20% and the tenor is about 3 to 4 months, it could be more if need be. My desired returns is of course to make as high returns as possible, i know this may depend on well thot out strategy, the entry and exit period too matters a lot. This is my situation, i hope you find it informative enough to assist my situations. Thanks a lot expecting a response from you guys. YOU ARE THE BEST.

Do you find time to read any Psychiatry and see patients etc, as well as take care of the family?
With your knowledge of technical analysis.

Must admit in all my years of investing in the stock market I have always discounted technical analysis and been pure fundamentalist. This worked very well in the past but the NSE has moved into a different phase now - with a lot of money to be made from short term trading.

Digression - Can Obama win?

I was surprised at how well he did on super Tuesday.

Does anybody have the breakdown of which states had caucuses and which ran primaries. Trying to analyse if we can discount the states with large black populations and few Latinos and those states that had caucuses. Caucuses, like Iowa, are public votes and I feel some of the White folks may vote for Obama in public when the argument is lost but will not do so in the privacy of the polling booths.

Another point to consider. How many of the Obama states allow independents to vote? There is still the theory that many Republicans will vote for him in the hope that he will be easier for John McCain although I understand now that the polls think he and not Hillary can beat McCain.

Getting very interesting.

Afroil enjoyed price appreciation throughout the week on the
heels of non-availability of supply and a possible slide is expected of Transcorp in coming sessions as an onslaught of supply
at the tail end of today’s session suggest a possible release of offers early next week.

this report was probably released yesterday

Are you saying its not a CICO stock for about 25% returns?
NSE is crazy, so nothing might stop a 25% run, but recent analysis does not show a 25% CICO - but we are in a bull run, If the dead bone of Transcorp can rise, then i see no reason why Nascon cannot rise.

Hello guys,

Savvylanre, easimoni, invisible, pumping, aktopgun and all others ,

Please does anyone have any info on Afprint? How are they doing? I am thinking of buying based on its current price.

Is there somewhere I can read up on them . Please I need to know if its good for the very short term.

Thanks

Sorry, can't help you on Afprint - i do not do penny stocks without good fundamentals,  But, if you have heard any good rumour on good growth potentials in the near future - then you can join the hype - but know when to get out,
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by samstone4(m): 3:41am On Feb 09, 2008
@Tonyjon

Don't know what's going on with the Transcorp.

It's good to see it gaining maximum from start to close every day for about four days now. It closed on very heavy bid Friday.
Have not contacted my usual source. Don't want to bother him too much or else he'll start getting cagey with the information.
Have heard that the results for Transcorp Hilton have been prepared and presumably must be very good.
However, I feel there must be something to do with Nitel to have a sustained upwards trajectory. If it continues for the next three market days I will know a favourable solution to the Nitel problem has been found or Yaradua has been confirmed as President. It may then become difficult to get the shares in any significant quantity.

I presume you have a holding in it? If not it may be worthwhile to make an initial investment on Monday and wait and see for about a week then jump in before it flies away, if it is still rising fast by then.

Happy hunting.

I have a local current account with UBA and I am considering opening a stock broking account with them. My initial thought was that I would be able to use my existing UBA current account to fund my stock broking account. The UBA representative insisted on me opening an NRN account before they can process a stock broking account for me.

Gurus in the house, is this normal or another of UBA's ploy to make me pay double running two different accounts with them? Please every contribution based on previous related experiences, no matter how small, will be appreciated.

Any hope for Obama in the ongoing race? Will his nomination not cause the Democrat the ticket to the white house on the basis of race? Just a digression from my main question above.

The Democrats are proceeding with two left foot; whichever emerge dominant in their in house battle is still a left foot as far as the general election is concerned. The American society is still colorphobic and gederphobic, if those words make any sense.

@Emotimi, Gidij etc

As I said earlier, rather unfairly to Obama, I find it hard to trust him at the moment.
It would have been easier for me if he had completed a term in the senate before running.
If I, a Nigerian, feel this  way I wonder how White Americans will respond in the polling booths come November.

So, regardless of what the polls may be saying, I believe Hillary Clinton will be more likely to defeat McCain at the presidential election. The polls are exhibiting what they call the "Anderson effect", after a Black mayor of Los Angeles. All the polls had him way ahead of his White rivals for the California governorship until the one that matters, where he fell.

I don't believe the gender prejudice would be as difficult to overcome.
A combined Hillary-Obama ticket might have a good chance.

Did you notice that Hillary won the state of Massachusetts? The 2 seating senators and governor from that state all endorsed Obama. Senator Kennedy has represented the state for more than 30 years! This is one of the most liberal states in America!

Back to NSE capitalist fun!!
