eldee: Read between the lines, spending is not the only way to achieve success, other means may take more time YES but they can succeed as well as just throwing money at the problem. Y'all just want a quick fix but there are none in the path we've chosen, even money doesn't achieve immediate success as City have shown. He ain't no sacrificial lamb, most of the fans who follow the club week in and out already know what is going on, even if Arsene decides to go today a lot of us will still acknowledge what he has done, you cannot deny that he has set this club on a path of sustainable success, but like Gazidis said, I don't believe his legacy is written yet, I believe he has earned the right to see his plan come to fruition. |

On a secondary note, one of our younger talents Connor Henderson is on the bench today, you might want to take a look at him if he gets to play. |

duduspace: Nah . . . it's not just money, it's money plus a winning mentality plus a good manager and some other things. We have a good manager, City don't. The winning mentality comes in 1-2 years . . . that's even easier with a good coach. As I said before, in modern football money helps a lot and is more effective at doing the job than the youth system. How . . . the guys with the money still come and buy the best of the crop at the end of the day, players are getting greedier . . . we're almost working in a way that's completely opposite to the mindset of our product. That's one thing that makes it hard to use the youth system, another is the fact that hey, we already invested 5-6 years into this system, players averagely play at acceptable trophy-winning level for 5-10 years. . . are we seriously thinking we'll see Eboue any better than this?? He is being a sacrificial lamb, because at the end of the day . . . all he has to say is, give me money for five Vermalens or I'll go to Madrid. He's one of the most respected coaches in the world, most teams will beg to have a coach that can work wonders when given money. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by duduspace(m): 2:56pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
To be honest eldee, I don't think Arsene was forced into it. I think he believes in such a system as well. Yes he had to carry a lot of pressure at some times like last season (when frankly speaking we were poor, we regressed , when we should have gone on from the 07/08 season). But I do believe we've learnt from losing guys like Flamini and Hleb which is why we had the slew of long term contracts in December (though it started with tying Cesc down to that ridiculously long contract till 2014 about 2 seasons ago) I'm sure if we didn't do that we could have lost Cesc this summer with the noise Barca is making. They know fully well now that they might need to pay in the range Madrid payed for CR9 and that is why they are trying to unsettle the lad in such a shameful manner. Fingers crossed, we won't have a repeat of the 08/09 summer and we'll keep the core of our team and improve it, also this team still has the capacity to increase even from within. |

Not a nice way to close off the season, some shocking performances I would expect cos I didn't watch the match. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by vicade(m): 3:35pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
Shocking Performance. Arsenal and Chelsea both lost at Wigan and Spurs, but the main difference is Chelsea beat Arsenal both times, hence the 6 point gap. I hope chelsea win the League and do the double. Gunner for Life. See y'all next season. P.S. we need to get rid of Almunia/Fabianski/Denilson/Eduardo/Silvestre and CLICHY. Yes Clichy!!! |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by eldee(m): 3:38pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
duduspace: It was a combination . . . usual suspects like Fabianski and Diaby but unusual ones like Clichy and Sagna. Wenger is the loser at the end of the day. |

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by vicade(m): 3:51pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
Wenger is not the Problem. His faith in Players such as Clichy,Eduardo,Almunia,Denilson and Fabianski has not been repaid. Players like Bendtner,Eboue,Song and even walcott have stepped up. We were out of the title race already. But without ARSHAVIN/RVP/FABREGAS/GALLAS/SONG for most of the run-in and now no vermalean you cannot blame wenger. to put things in perspective. Arshavin=Malouda=Valencia RVP=Drogba=Rooney Fabregas=Lampard-=Fletcher Gallas=Terry=Vidic Song=Essien=Carrick Now imagine all these chelsea players and man utd missing through injuries. You would expect the bench players to step up you cannot have someone the quality of drogba or rooney on the bench. You have to hope Anelka or Berbatov steps up. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by Sauron1: 3:51pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
eldee: Why blame Wenger for this loss? His players were better against Wigan's 11. Wenger's players were more expensive than Wigan's players so the issue is not money spent. Can you then tell us how Arsenal lost a 2-0 lead with 10 mins to go? |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by duduspace(m): 3:55pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
At the end of the day, we basically weren't good enough, even Spurs are closing off their season in style but we seem to be limping to the finishing line in the 3rd position. Next season is another time, winners are made from experiences like this. Keep the core of the squad and get in able reinforcement with winning mentality. 3rd and 4th choice CB pairing, 3rd choice holding MF, 2nd choice striker, 2nd choice playmaker but we should have still been able to beat Wigan. Arsene should rotate more earlier on in the season. |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by Nobody: 3:57pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
Are you guys still dreaming of winning the title? To think Assanal had the easiest games left. |

duduspace: Arsenal are FINISHED. 5 YEARS with no single trophy is a disgrace!!!! How can a club whose wage bill is around 100 million pounds finish TROPHYLESS for 5 seasons? |
Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by DrKitaun(m): 4:00pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
Wenger needs to admit he has been hoodwinking y'all with his failed project, he is a good manager of resources, bad tactician! Why Silvestre and Fabianski? Why keep RVP 4 Man Citeh when dude needs playing time, isnt obvious that even Eastmond is CC material? Merida's role in dat team nko? Nothing dey happen sha, if we dont overhaul d team, our "there is always next season to win" mantra would never end! |

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by eldee(m): 4:05pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
duduspace: Now you go back to my point about how we're working against the mind-set of our so called products. The best ones leave . . . the Eboues and Walcotts stay. It's almost impossible to pursue this dream in today's football. . . look at Ajax now, since money became the biggest thing, they've become a selling club. You think they won't have been UCL threats if they had the power to keep Ibrahimovich, Huntelaar, Maxwell, Van Der Sar, Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, John Heitinga, Piennar, Nigel de Jong and the other stars they created?? Wenger is risking his reputation as a manager and I'm not even sorry for him . . . he's just daft. Ask any fan, we don't mind owing millions as long as we get a regular supply of trophies . . . especially now that UEFA's not taken any action against it. Barcelona are sacred cows now only because they're winning, their finances are scary too. |

This is not my team!! These are imposters putting on the Red and White of the Arsenal!! There needs to be a clearout of the squad and it needs to be done NOW!! I pray Citeh knocks the final nail in the Wenger Youth Project once and for all at the Emirates (With this team i don't see us winning any game between now and the end of season). Wenger should start now in the transfer window and end the contracts of the players that should be let go off!! 1. Diaby SHOULD BE SOLD! 2. Almunia should drop to 2nd goal Keeper 3. Lukas should be sold 4. Dudu sadly should be sold as well 5. Silvestre should be shot!! 6. Rozzi can be kept, but his contract should be made per season (same as Sol) 7. Arshavin should be sold (Didn't step up when we needed him, pre injury) 8. Gallas should be let to go off and finish his career in the Ligue 1 9. Denilson should be played in the reserves. (Same as NB52) Arsene should just see out his contract and help the board find a replacement!! The gaffer has given us much joy as the Manager since he stepped into the shores of Engurland!! But his reign is fast coming to an end!! He knows it, the board know it and the fans now know it!! It will be painful to lose him, but the only constant thing is change!! If he doesn't spend during the off season, then i think the next season should be his last for the club!! I wouldn't begrudge Cesc leaving now!! The lad deserves better than what his manager is giving him I MEAN FFS!! WHY LEAVE RVP TILL THE END OF THE GAME HAS HE GONE SENILE!? I LOVE MY CLUB!! But i hate this team!! GOONER 89 |

Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (In Arsenal We Trust) by duduspace(m): 4:17pm On Apr 18, 2010 |
eldee: It is difficult YES, but I don't believe its impossible. We haven't lost any upcoming talents since Flamini, its just that on the whole they are still mostly young. Of the older ones, we haven't lost RVP, Eboue or Clichy. eldee: I agree he is risking his reputation but isn't that what every manager does when he takes a job? he might be taking on more risk fair enough but its one he is willing to live with and I respect him for that. eldee: Until Administration comes calling you mean? and don't repeat the mantra that there will always be someone to buy the club. Gillet and Hick's travails at Liverpool is enough of a warning. |
