Project African Warrior, upgrade of the R4 assault rifle by SA company Denel Land Systems

Don't be offended at my opinion on this particular gun. I thought at first it was some toy used by Nollywood or SA movies studio. I don't see anything worth praising in this Halo-4-like game gun.

However, the SA guns are in no way going to be better than the ones Nigeria government will be purchasing because they are coming from the developed nations' advanced technology. It is waste of time flaunting this toy as though it can withstand the developed nations product.

Please, call in Russia or US to help you guys out with modern weaponry. Until then this one doesn't impress me at all.

All the non SA outfits insist you got badly beaten. So I think the question doesn't make sense.

Those reports are not current. And all they say is we lost 13 with 27 wounded. And give nothing more of use. Actually they only reporting what the SANDF and SA media has siad. With there own spin. You do know the first report of SA vechiels in seleka hand was from SA media. Yet you not calling that propergander.

The numbers of over 500 rebels dead from SA hands has not been refueted. Not even seleka who actually convirmend it. So please mr french fool. Stop peddaling you lies.

What we post was a interview with a rebel. Yet you call it propergander. Both you and the americans are the biggest fools I have ever seen.

That shows just how ill informed you are. Firslty it not a new rifel but a modernized R4. It has a new optics, grip, but and barrel. All so the frame is made of newer light weight matrials. The underbarrel frenade launcher is the same has the american M203.

And nigeria army fields local AK 47 copies. Only speciol units get the nice stuff.

That R4 has a effect range of ±500m 200m beyond that of the standard nigerian assult rifel.

I would have restricted media coverage of boko haram, and I would have given a budget of 15 billion dollars to the army, in order for them to buy and make the best Equipment to fight effectively. I wouldn't have considered this Amnesty that consists on giving money to terrorists who are mostly foreign and whose bases are mostly outside Nigeria (so no way to know if they are disarmed or not).
And finally, I would crush corruption, instead of joigning the club of the corrupt politicians and even granting perdon to the most corrupt politicians internationnally recognized.

You last statement got me laughing real hard.

However love the president or loathe him, that man has done practically all in his powers to salvage the problem

We have been in a state of rebuilding and transforming the military into a modern force, since the advent of democracy.

In 2012 president GEJ handed the military and SSS 5.7 billion usd

This 2013 he has given the military 2.9 or let say 3 billion usd to build capacity to fight terror.

We have seen remarkable, significant success, however fighting home grown religious extremism is no easy task.

Look at the russians, they have been fighting terrorists since 1994 in dagestan and the northern caucuses. A few years ago, say 4 years one of russia's main airports in moscow got hit by a suicide bomber.
What about india, pakistan, indonesia, Philippines et al

My point is combating home grown terrorism is no easy task.

15 billion what, for which military, that is too much, we don't have that kind of money yet to spend on the military.

We are gradually moving our nation forward, with infastructural development moving full stream ahead, in rail, road, power, manufacturing, eko Atlantic etc etc

15 billion dollars, I'd personally protest on front of aso rock

Corruption, all those cases are in the courts, is it the fault of the president(executive), that the judiciary is stalling and un willing to expedite action ??

Where did I say it is a new rifle in my comment? Your self-aggrandizement to talk about this toy gun is revealing. I doubt you know what such assault rifles are meant for. After-all we have seen how your military was disgraced in CAR with all the over-polished weaponry and vehicles.

I would opt for the Nigerian kind of AK-47 which is the world best assault gun in the market.

There are few things nigeria can do.

One cut down on forghin deployments. This is the cheapest but worrest opstion. Has it would damge nigeria diplomatcaly.

Down size and stream line. A cheap opstion. And if you get a good reserve force will not effect nastional defense.

Increase budget by around 2 to 3 billion. To average of 7 billion USD for deffense and SSS.

Don't cut down on numbers but still stream line. Harder to do since now you must find ways for cuting down on costs.

So is it the courts that pardorned mr Alam ?
And is it the judiciary which is proposing money for Amnesty on terrorists, and tell me why the president salary and allowances are bigger than the budget of the police. Tell me why everyone of our senators' salary is more than 3 times that of Obama. eko athlantic city is a project that has nothing to do with GEJ. You want to thank him for evry good thing in Nigeria, yet to you no bad thing is not his fault. You are saying he gave 3 billion to the army. Is that his money first of all ? I would have prefer if you said he approved 3 billions for the army. And how much does he give himself ? And tellme isn't he a billionaire ? Where did that money come from ?

Hahaha... The most discouraging comment I have ever read on Nairaland. It is like saying we should cut down on our military so that SA can keep intimidating other African countries. No way! No way that is going to happen as there is huge manpower in the country. All we need to do is tapped into the potentials to quench the SA intimidating attitude in neighboring countries.

At the moment, we can still afford to maintain our budget for the military judiciously. That is good enough to keep the number floating. Another thing, I would be very interested in the government making sure they are well paid and provided with decent facilities. We are still the giant of Africa in this area.We got the manpower, yo!

ongoing research indicates that south african army seems to have set a new african military record by their FASTEST defeat, retreat and escape of a major military power nation in africa. information available still puts south african army on top list as the fastest collapse, defeat, retreat, abandon equipments, and escape, as well as begging for safe route out of battle zone during their disastrous battle against the seleka rebels of CAR last month march 2013.

The fact remains, only 200 SA soldiers managed to contain over 3000 rebels until they finally wave the white flag to save the life of CAR president F Bozize. The world knows, South Africa knows and it's only Aguagust in the whole universe who does not know anything about it.

JOHANNESBURG, Mar 31 – South African soldiers who survived last week’s rebel takeover of the Central African Republic are traumatised after discovering later that some of the rebels killed were child soldiers, local Sunday newspapers reported.

In what has turned out to be South Africa’s heaviest military loss since apartheid, 13 soldiers were killed last weekend in Bangui in clashes with Seleka rebels who toppled president Francois Bozize.

Around 200 South African troops fought against some 3,000 rebels during the battle for the Central African capital that lasted several hours.

Some of survivors who have returned home recounted to local newspapers that they only discovered after the battle that they had been fighting against some teenage rebel soldiers.

“It was only after the firing had stopped that we saw we had killed kids. We did not come here for this… to kill kids. It makes you sick. They were crying calling for help… calling for (their) moms,” a paratrooper told the Sunday Times.

South African President Jacob Zuma in January had approved the deployment of 400 soldiers to the  Central African Republic to help local troops. as part of a bilateral pact with the administration of now deposed Bozize.

In the end about 200 soldiers were sent.

Some of the Central African rebels were “teenagers who should be in school,” the soldier told the paper.

In the City Press a soldier was quoted as saying many of the rebels were “only children”.

The two papers also quoted the soldiers saying the South African troops were running out of ammunition.

South Africa’s government now faces increasing calls at home for a probe into why troops were sent to the Central African Republic.

Zuma is due to attend an  extraordinary summit of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) on Wednesday to be hosted by the Chadian leader Idriss Deby Itno.

Andrew, how are you going to continue your lie after this ?
It seems that it is not only your military vehicles seleka is cruising right now. They are also cruising your uniforms.

It doesn't matter, eventually after everything else the 3000 Seleka raised the white flag and knelt down on their knees, crawling towards our pride of the lions (SANDF) to leak their asses, pleading with our soldiers to cease fire. SANDF are not cowards and they do not need France or whoever so to use as cover for their pseudo-peace keeping mission. We stand tall and proud of our boys they have done a great job, more than 2000 miles away from their land.
