Is it me or does anyone think VDS was at fault for the two goals conceeded.
He shoulda done better, haven gotten decent touches to those shots.
He conceeded softly against Chelsea at the Shield game.
We need urgent back-up.And fast

i dont think he caused the 2 goals

the first one was so close i doubt if any keeper would be able to get it

the 2nd one was almost a goalmouth scrabble- too many people justling for the ball and of course that should affect the keepers composure

not ruling out a backup tho cos baba don old

More like VDS is a very good keeper but he's got a dark side to him,he's "olding" grin  tongue How u dey paddie mi?

Eastbay,
The fact  he touched the 2 goal-bound balls is a testimony to his long reach. The first goal he was actually blocked/distracted by Dempsey and the second one,how the hell did Hangeland outjump everyone? And way was no one at the far post?
The most surprising aspect of the game to me though, was Nani taking the penalty with all the oldies on the pitch.

I'm not so sure I buy the reasons,no matter how valid/plausible they might seem.
Yes the goals weren't his making but he got down low to stop both shots.Having done that,I think he shoulda kept at least one of those attempts out.
The guy don dey old. That's my view.VDS of last season wouldn't conceed softly like that.It would take something special to beat him.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by mojounited(m): 8:19am On Aug 24, 2010
^^^Nah Eastbay, I don't think VDS should be blamed for either goal especially the second.

The first goal we conceded was J. EVans' fault and he wasn't himself throughout the entire match; Zamora out-muscled and strolled past him like a breeze in all Fulham's attack especially that of the first goal - Evans should have done better not to let Zamora get past him and, give a cut-back cross to Simon Davies for a well struck shot at goal. VDS to have had a touch on the ball to parry it out of goal is even a testimony that he still has it in him, albeit he's lost some lightning reflexes.

As tkb stated, the second goal was like a goal mouth scramble and it's very difficult for any keeper to easily detect and stop a goal bound header from a resulting corner, which begs the Q - how did he (Brede Hangeland) out-jump everybody to get an almost free header and where was Evra at the far post? Also, is it just me or does any other person think Park was awful in that game, and it baffles me how he even put Nani and Giggs on the bench?

All in all, Fulham are no pushovers and Mark Hughes was out to prove a point however, we know when the lads push it into full gear that's when our season really starts proper. Looking forward to the next game already.

I seem to be in the minority on this one so I'll drop it.
No wahala.Just thought he'd do better.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by MrTA(m): 9:17am On Aug 24, 2010
I think its very very harsh to blame any keeper conceeding those goals. In both instances the defenders were at fault and I think you under estimate how difficult it is to save those attempt at pretty much point blank range.

I though we defended very poorly for most of the match. VDS was too busy for my liking.
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by chamotex(m): 9:23am On Aug 24, 2010
Eastbay, how can you blame VDS for those goals?

C'mon man . . . He wasn't at fault.
If not for VDS, we would have lost that match.

Go and watch the highlights again.

Remeber that point blank reflex save he made from Etuhu in the first half?
Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by tkb417(m): 9:45am On Aug 24, 2010
xactly my sentiments

those goals were close range and the man still got his hands on the ball

the 2nd goal wasnt his fault at all. The defenders were on holiday

lets move on

we should be able to dissect West Ham into 2 halves grin

Utd defenders had a nightmare - first Evra was dazzled by some school boy tricks from Duff. . . how can a 'fast' LB like Evra be so easily beaten by old papa Duff? grin

Then Evans, poor Evans. . . .Zamora simply bullied him all through the game till the point that he didn't know whether he was going or coming.

Worst of all I think was Vidic. . . . the marking on Hangeland was abysmal, he was so far away from the guy he might as well have given him a red carpet to score the goal.

Nice to see the defensive weaknesses in Utd, I hope other teams utilise them as well. tongue

Its so funny how people who have not smelled anything close to a trophy would be analysing a Man UTD team.

Especially, this early in the season. Some peeps just dont learn!!

Sharrap my friend - did I say Utd will not win a trophy? I am analysing a game and the failures therein. It is my constitutional right to do so, only slightly less important than the universal right to ask 'how market?' grin grin

Dont you EVER learn? If the trend of the past six seasons is anything to go by,I'm not so sure you should be gloating because you find yourself above us on goal difference.
Why are Gaynners the same the world over? This their peacock mentality keeps baffling me.

The marking was shocking . . . . O'Shea shoulda been the one marking Hangeland not Vidic, in my opinion.
