nairalanders n thier silly stories this n that - the stupiidest people in nigeria/nairaland are middle belters n southerners- SO UNREALISTIC N DUMB. this for dat ediot that was boasting that fulanis are hunted in delta- Boboruku-Jesse Women Protest - Allege Fulani Herdsmen's Invasion of Farmland 2 March 2011 Ughelli — Hundreds of placard-carrying Boboruku-Jesse women in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State have protested to the Ogwedion of Boboruku, demanding the immediate removal of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle from their farm lands. The women, which stormed the town hall, was received by the most Senior Chief of the community, Chief Godwin Ofishe, the Unuevworo of Boboruku sub-clan and some other chiefs of the community. Some of the placards displayed by the women read: "Fulani cattle have caused famine in our land," "Please leave us alone Fulani people to avoid war," "Please leave us alone to ensure proper farming on our land," "Ododo please do something to save us from Fulani," "Government please tell Fulani to leave our land, we are dying of hunger." They also appealed to the chiefs ask the Fulani to remove their cattle from their farm land. Ofishe, who corroborated the explanations of the women and other chiefs and community leaders said within the past three years, their farm land had been devastated by herdsmen who came from far away Benin, Edo State, into their land to graze their cattle on their farms, thereby destroying every crop in the farm. Ofishe said, "when these became unbearable as famine had already set in, they approached the monarch of the kingdom to assist them find an amicable solution to the entire process, unfortunately, immediately the monarch waded into the matter by appointing a six-man committee to find out solution to the problem, the same Fulani people ambushed a man coming from Edo State, their neighbouring community, with a cassava load on his "Okada" and killed him and got him burnt to aches together with his motorcycle." The Unuevworo explained further that the present killings that has also brought into the community occasional violation, stealing on their farm land, pollution to their only source of drinking water was reported to His Royal Highness Erhiekevwe 1 (JP), Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom. The monarch confirmed that the matter was actually brought before him by Boboroku women who stormed his palace at Jesse town as some were crying bitterly over the invasion of their farm land by the Fulani herdsmen that had turned their land into deserts, and destroying all their crops as well as polluting their stream, the only source of drinking water. |

I am thoroughly amazed that such a thing could have happened. Chai! umu okorobia Umuapku mo ihe obula wo kuruya, Ivoro mekwa inyi! If this had happened in my hometown, our warriors would have already castrated them and sent them back to the North running without any hesitation. My people no de joke, weven in nearby Ohafia if such a thing happened, they would have sacraficed them to their deity and used their cattle for pepper soup. Nomadism does not have any share in the South east of Nigeria or the South for that matter. |

For now and until a better and more tenable solution is offered, here is what I think. 1. Going forward, Fulani herdsmen are to be regarded as "proven menace" in the South. 2. Their (fulani herdsmen) presense in rural setllements grazing on local lands or transiting through town, must be viewed and qualified proactively as an "imminent confrontation and conflict". 3. The Southerner, upon observing the described "imminence", is then obligated to be alert and raise awareness to the presense and location of the herdsmen and their constitued numbers (men, women, children, etc). 4. The populace, represented by a vigilante group, is then equally obligated to create a security peripheral for (A) educating the herdsmen of safe grazing grounds (B) educating the herdsmen of farm plots and sharing with them the culpability and danger of their animals grazing or stampeding on and thereby destroying crops and family plots (C) educate the herdsmen that armed men are on alert standby and the consequence will be fatal if they failed to respect the guidelines of the local vigilante group. 5. The "imminence awareness" flag remains in effect for the entire duration and is only declared "cleared" after the herdsmen are departed from the locality. 6. The local vigilante group also has an obligation to communicate the herdsmen presence with neighboring locales. 7. A vigilante must be maintained for each locale and capacitated to serve as reinforcement if help is needed in nearby community attacked by herdsmen. 8. The overall aim is to create a visible counter-force to the herdsmen "menacing" rampage in the South. |

If this story is true it would probably had made headline in sun newspapers and the local radio in owerri just like fulani attack of benue and jos. The story appeared for some few minutes in vanguard. Vanguard eventhough is a good media but can not generally be relied upon as a final authority. However igbos need to be careful because an over reaction could mean the furstrated northerners leaving their futile war with the FG to start attacking igbos. And the vultures in the southwest joining them to attack igbos on the flimsy lame excuse that they have muslims too rather than remaining neutral. |
