Yup, exactly. I have had one try to trip me up by asking false info and i told her to her face , "that is not what i said" she just gave me back my passport and i walked away. Consistency is key.
Vicjustice:
Don't be deceived, immigration officers aren't necessarily asking these questiongs to find the answers, but rather to test you for inconsistency, they can see many of the answers in their computer system

Mine wasn't a family application and I wasn't asked.

Must be a guy thing then. Anyways who can complain about answering Fewer questions :-)

I think that occurs if you make a family application with your spouse. I may be wrong and it may be for security purposes.
Phema: I've noticed the question "have you travelled to any country in the last 5 years?" Does not pop up when its a female's application. I wasn't asked. Most females I know were not asked.

Great topic @vicjustice. It's good to take the mystique out of the process. I usually stick my return ticket in my passport so they see my return dates themselves when asked. Eye contact is also good too.

you can actually fly up to 16 hours to the US in one plane ride!!!( Dubai to Houston) It depends on where you begin your journey. Usually trips to JFK are shorter if you connect through the Uk(10hrs or so) but direct flights are about the time you just quoted. its not easy, quite boring and even worse if you have little kids!!! trust me after flying that long, flying lagos london will be like driving from lagos to ibadan, blink and you are there!!! Actually did singapore-moscow(10hrs) ,layover(2hrs) moscow to houston (12hrs), still alive and kicking!!! trust me there are worse routes to get to the USA! going from nigeria is a breeze.
iluvweed: Pls Good people of NL....Is it true that when coming back from USA by direct flight, its between 12hrs-17hrs direct flight depending on the airline?
Do they take longer route back because when going its shorter distance.....Pls I need clarifications because I doubt if everyone coming from the USA sits on a single plane for 12hrs!!!........Chai..I don die oooh!

Yes you can! Afterall, your visa should read B1/B2. That means business and Tourism.
its gonna look suspicious though, @OP,better be prepared for questions.

@Tmikejay, congrats on your baby and the somewhat smooth entry. you probably ran into a border officer who doesn't like foreigners giving birth in the US and didn't want to use his hand to stamp you in and gave someone else that responsibility so he can have his "conscience" clear that he didn't stamp you in but someone else did!!!, sounds weird i know but oyibo are weird like that!! probably a tea-party member!!! Glad you got in ok.

@nijaspeak: Is possible but your friend must be here in Malaysia first and to on a less capital side, he must marry a Malaysian woman and with such everything will be easy as ABCD. The woman will do everything and will also apply for a loan to start the business but if you want to do it on your own then be ready to spend much much much like 100-300K MYR, which 100K is 5million in Naira.
We have alot of African Shops in Cheras, Damansara, Kepong, Ampang, Subang Jaya, Cyber Jaya and Nilai (Outskirt) ranging from African Restaurant, Boutiques, Hair Dressing Saloon, Barbing Saloon, Car Rentals and African Dry foods but mostly and from the people I know, you must marry or be in partnership with mostly a Malay/Chinese/Indian woman. For you to be on the easy side, you must first come to Malaysia, marry a Malay woman and everything will just be easy for you and wont cost you much. 99.9% of Africans Shops here are jointly owned and registered by Nigerians and a Malay, Indian or Chinese woman.

Hi, I live in KL ,I am fairly new here though. I would really like the actual address of a hair salon and African market.i've used chow kit market in KLCC, it's actually ok but I've heard about cheras and co but I need specific locations so I can give a cab driver actual directions on how to get there. Would really appreciate it.

I have much respect for this forum because it informs and educates. I also believe that the information is useful and constructive. Having said that I feel this particular thread is quite judgmental and biased. Yes being over weight is not favorable to your health and also how you are received physically on this increasingly vain world. Please do not use this forum to tar women with a brush that will encourage emotional and maybe physical abuse. To say a woman is ugly based on what stats? The stats of Europeans? By the way God created so please take it up with the creator. Attitudes like this make ladies perm, bleach and fake their way just to be accepted. How about suggesting the ladies lose some weight and take care of their physical appearance without saying that they lost in the genetic lottery hence they cannot find a job !!! Picture talking to your daughter " oh sorry sweety , you are a fat and ugly Nigerian so you will probably be unemployable"!!!!

Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by babyspice: 10:56am On Dec 04, 2013
budwizer: Good day, my people. i am a first timer on this thread. i need some advice on the uk visa application. i intend to travel with my wife and infant son sometime in april next year for tourism, about 10 nights. we intend to stay in an hotel and apartment all through.none of us has been to the uk before. i am not a frequent traveler, just been to dubai twice with my wife in the last 3 years. my wife on the other hand has been to germany and poland on several business trips, but all her EU travel history is on her old passport. (she just renewed/changed to a fresh one due to her new marital name)
...would like to know if i should include the old one to show her travel history
...also i have a list of documents to send along, i want to be sure i have not omitted anything important, they include
1) two separate 6 months statement of account for each of us showing our income (total balance of about 1.5m naira)
2) two separate letters of identification from respective employees here in naija
3) two separate payslips to back up each account
4) hotel reservation from booking.com, with confirmation email and possibly a part payment
5) flight reservation (though not confirmed)
6) itenary showing the places we would love to visit in the uk
7) marriage certificate
cool birth certificate for my son
9)all 3 passports
please your feedback, suggestions and advice would be highly appreciated.

I would advise you to focus on your income. Do the math. What's your monthly living cost i.e bills, feeding etc. find out the average cost of flights an how much 10 days will cost you as a family ( accommodation , transport , shopping ) Convert that to pounds sterling. It mustn't surpass your monthly income or savings in your bank account because that could be a bad sign that you would want to spend all your livelihood on one trip.
Your itinerary should be costed too. Find out prices of tickets to places you wish to visit ( bus, train, theaters, theme parks ) etc. be thorough . Google this up. Every financial info you give must be backed up with genuine evidence.
Your wife can submit her old passports with your application because it helps to see her travel history .

Vicjustice: If the invitation is intended for you only and your name is the only name on the letter, then no one else may use it, not even your wife or son will be allowed to use it.
Your wife needs to be in an employment for over one year in order to be eligible for (individual) visa application.
Please, refer to this link and get a comprehensive analysis that deals with your queries:
https://www.nairaland.com/1181160/comprehensive-list-documents-required-visas
I would just like to add that if an invitation is made out to his wife its ok because i was in the same situation a few years ago. I was NOT employed at the time but my hubby was able to prove in our application that he would be able to foot the entire bill and proved we had ties to the UK. Even though i have family in the UK and on paper i would have been considered a flight risk. The onus is on the main Applicant to furnish enough genuine evidence that he has a stable, consistent and sustainable income to make the trip and for normal living expenses.

Freshie: Good day house. I trust everyone's doing well. SSN came in the mail yesterday for just me, my wife and baby's are yet to come. I've read on here that it happens so no ish..

I want to open a bank account, preferably savings. Pls I need some advice on the most pocket-friendly bank smiley. I've checked Bank of America and Citibank websites and they require minimum bal of $300 every month or 1 direct deposit and bill payment every month. This would not be an issue once I start working and paying bills by His grace but I just want to know if there are other banks that come with maybe more benefits and are more pocket-friendly.

My family and I are in ATL. Thanks grin

Why not try a credit union, some can be quite good

Hi Visa officer , I just got back from a trip to the US. My port of entry and exit was Houston . I have two passports based on dual citizenship. My Nigerian passport has my visa in it, which I used to enter. On exit my husband mistakenly checked us in with my other passport because it carries my residence permit for Malaysia where I live( the airline is meant to return the electronic I-94 I believe on ) after going thru security my husband realized his mistake and corrected it with the airline official because it's important that my exit is recorded. Now I check online and my electronic I-94 info is still available which I believe means I am still considered to be in the US and my hubby's info is not available making me believe his i-94 was submitted. How do i I fix this because I don't want this to bite me in the butt next time I renew my visa. Again,I currently live outside Nigeria so what's my next step.

1. US passport: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html you need us birth cert , babies pic, a form signed n notarized by dad.

2. Nigerian passport : http://www.nigeriaembassyusa.org/index.php?page=passports.

3. Social security : applied for by hospital once birth cert is issued. Not necessary for US passport application

4 . Try to read through the thread to get more info. Do some homework :-)

So sad to hear about your terrible experience. I went thru Houston in 2010 and had zero issues. And just recently again thru Houston with zero issues. I prepared for some by carrying past bills but I guess with the govt shut down helped me becos they looked so harassed and under-staffed!! And also my hubby answered all questions while I stood looking stressed and harassed with the kids after a 16hr flight!!!

Just look at the entry date that is written in pen below that should tell you how long
ringofGod: Hey everyone, just to let u know I got into America today, no hassles at POE though they seized my indomie and kilishi cry....
They just asked how much money we had, what our budget was, I showed him my hospital receipts for what we had paid etc and that was it.

One question though, I don't understand the stamp on my passport, it says OCT 0X 2013. what does that mean, how long can I stay in the US for based on that.. Help pls people.

VisaOfficer:

You are so sweet! I appreciate you too!

We are all looking forward to processing many, many family-based and employment-based petitions more quickly than ever before, with the shortest wait times humanly possible, as a result of this interesting news.

Anyway, we won't feel the change here in the office until Oct. 1, 2014. I plan on staying in Nigeria for a long time -- certainly long enough to experience the change...

Yeah ! We knew wink thats why you are awesome!!
VisaOfficer:

The North Carolina police say: "thank you for your online report. in order to complete the report we will need his full name, dob, address, etc and also how much money was lost ?"

Could you send that information to LagosIV@state.gov, and I'll forward it to them (and cc you)? Put NORTH CAROLINA SCAM in the subject line so I can find it easily. Thanks!

Yeah, I know, I was pretending to be vaguely somewhere in West Africa, to stay as anonymous as possible. For something like this, I'll go ahead and admit I'm in Nigeria. You all knew that anyway. smiley

Hi Visa Officer, I have a question. I possess dual nationality and both require US Visa's . My Nigerian passport currently has a valid visa that will expire this year. I have been using my Nigerian passport to apply for US visa's but I would like to renew my US visa in my other passport. The thing is I currently don't live in Nigeria, but i am in this country on a valid residence permit on my other passport, would that pose a problem? On paper it seems ok to apply but I just wanted to know if questions will be raised as to why to i didnt renew with my Nigerian passport? I know I will supply info about previous visas in my next application but I'm worried that they may be reluctant to issue on the other passport since due to my nationality on the other passport the visa they issue may be of a longer duration ?

Yvete: A child born in the United States is entitiled to US citizenship, but to get a US passport, signatures from both parents are required.

Quick question: If the father of a child is in Nigeria, how and where do we notarize the letter? At the US embassy or any courthouse in Nigeria? Does it have to be hand written and mailed over here or scanned and printed? Thanks.
1) A notary in Nigeria is sufficient. I believe there is a document he needs to sign too.
2) It must be hand written and mailed. DHL preferably .
Good luck

There is a transit hotel in the airport in terminal 1 and 2. It's quite pricey and they charge in 6 hour blocks. Very busy to and almost always fully booked, you need to provide a boarding pass for your next destination.. The nearest hotel outside the airport is the Crowne plaza Changi airport hotel right next to the airport,no need to get a cab there just walk through the airport. But I suggest you book ahead also.
