Politics / Nigerians Will Ask Questions If I Change Jega Now – Jonathan by Dotun9: 12:02pm On Mar 04, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has come out clean and cleared the air regarding the future of the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega by stating he won’t be sacked ahead of the March 28 and April 11 elections.

It will be recalled that the polity was awashed with the news that the federal government had concluded plans to send Jega on a terminal leave in preparation of his completion of his tenure by June.

The speculation followed allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the anti-Jega posturing of the People’s Democratic Party as well as groups and individuals rooting for President Jonathan.

Last Thursday, senators of the APC, led by George Akume, said they had reliable Intelligence that Jega would be asked to proceed on pre-retirement leave this week through a letter that would originate from the office of the Head of Service of the Federation.

But speaking on Monday in an interview with Aljazeera, President Jonathan denied he was nursing such a plan.

The president said INEC is a sensitive and important institution and that removing its chairman arbitrarily would spark public outcry.

“Except somebody is insinuating that the Chairman has done something wrong. You cannot change an officer, except the person has done something wrong,” Jonathan said in response to a question on Jega.

He added that “Government, whether at the federal or state level, president or governor, does not wake up and change somebody, especially somebody like the INEC Chairman, except that person has done something wrong.

“INEC is a very sensitive body. For me to change INEC Chairman Nigerians will ask questions. So, you cannot wake up and change INEC Chairman.”

He added that he had never discussed with “any human being on earth about changing INEC Chairman”.

Politics / PDP Should Stop The Hate Campaigns Against Us – APC by Dotun9: 11:50am On Mar 04, 2015
……….. alleges plans by the PDP to release ‘movies’ on Buhari

The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) has accused the PDP led federal government of embarking on deliberate campaign of calumny to malign APC leaders.

This accusation is in response to the ‘devilish’ plan to run documentaries on national TV networks against the persons of our presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi according to the organisation.

It will be noted that in recent days now malicious, inflammatory and highly speculative documentary are being aired against the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the case of Gen. Buhari; he will be presented in the documentary with a spear/arrow in his hands directing his supporters to violence in 2011.

Purported supporters of Buhari will be shown rampaging, looting and killing while displaying the posters of Gen. Buhari; burning NYSC and government offices; burnt bodies in the 2011 general elections and martial music will be played ostensibly heralding Gen. Buhari’s announcement of the military coup that overthrew the government of Shehu Shagari.

“From the above hate messages and concocted lies, it should be obvious to all discerning minds that PDP and the Jonathan government have nothing to offer Nigerians, rather to continue to cause disaffection among the people by disseminating lies to the public,” Malam Garba Shehu said.

“As a responsible organization, we deem it necessary to call the attention of Nigerians to the “movies” being prepared for release by the PDP so that they are not taken by surprise or deceived into believing such fabricated lies.

“While we note that such hate messages run counter to the Codes of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), we call on the PDP and Jonathan administration to retrace their steps, and focus on giving account of the missing $20 billion from the NNPC.

“Under the watch of this government, corruption and outright stealing of state resources has been elevated to unprecedented levels, while indiscipline, impunity and high-handedness have become the hallmark of an outgoing administration. We are not surprised that a sinking ship like PDP will clutch at any available straw to stay alive, but we count on the support of Nigerians who have ceaselessly called for change.

Politics / Buhari Is Not The Right Leader For Nigerians – Gani Adams by Dotun9: 6:30pm On Mar 01, 2015
National coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams has said that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd.) is not the right leader for Nigerians because he doesn’t believe in the tenets of democracy.

Otunba Adams while addressing newsmen in Lagos said “General Buhari is not the right leader Nigerians should vote for at this time because he never believed in the National Conference ab initio and all the tenets of democracy.

“President Goodluck Jonathan is a man of integrity who will never lie to Nigerians. He had said it in several fora that he will implement all the recommendations of the national conference which we believe is the best thing that has happened to Nigeria in a long while and that’s why the Oodua Peoples Congress is throwing its full weight behind his second term ambition.

“Yoruba leaders met and agreed that we will only support the full implementation of the national conference and he has agreed to that, meaning, we think alike.”

Meanwhile Northerners in the South under the auspices of ‘Arewa Initiative for Peaceful Co-existence in Southern Nigeria’ has also endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid.

Grand patron of the organisation, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa during the rally organised for the President expressed confidence that more than ten million northerners in the south will vote for him.

Jonathan who also spoke during the rally, said if he is re-elected, the national conference report will be implemented 100 per cent. He said “We believe Nigeria is one indivisible nation, I believe we should do what is right for all Nigerians. In the next four years, we must make sure we develop our people, we will make sure we create wealth for our people, not to divide them based on ethnic or religious lines.”

Politics / Tinubu Wants To Become President Through Back Door – PDP by Dotun9: 11:04am On Feb 28, 2015
As the nation prepares to elect it’s new leaders, expectedly in the Nigerian context, there will be accusation, counter accusation, mudslinging, fact finding, amongst others and here is one.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) has embarked on a fact finding mission and according to the organisation, the former Governor of Lagos State, and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is trying to seize the presidency by subterfuge should the APC win the presidential election.

The Director of media and publicity of the PDPPCO, Femi Fani-Kayode, at a press conference in Abuja, specifically alleged that Tinubu has made the vice presidential candidate of the APC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event APC wins.

But the All Progressives Congress (APC) described the allegation as absolute rubbish.

The national publicity secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said “absolute rubbish, ask him to give you proof.”

Fani-Kayode said “since the formation of the APC, it has been an open secret that Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu is its national leader and also its biggest financier. The question that should agitate every Nigerian is why Tinubu has been investing heavily in the APC presidential project to such a point that he has single-handedly produce the joint presidential ticket of General Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“It should baffle well-meaning Nigerians why Senator Tinubu has decided to draft General Buhari, despite his age, acrimonious background and questionable health status, into the presidential race whilst ensuring that his stooge, Prof. Osinbajo was foisted on the general as vice presidential candidate.

“The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation wishes to use this forum to expose the ungodly plan by Senator Tinubu to seize the presidency of Nigeria by subterfuge.

“You will recall how Senator Tinubu wanted to be running mate to General Muhammadu Buhari in spite of the nationwide resentment for Muslim-Muslim ticket that he and General Buhari planned to foist on their party men and women. Senator Tinubu had justified the ticket by saying that competence was the important thing and not the issue of religion.

“But when he and General Buhari could not push through the agenda within the APC, he (Senator Tinubu), after being given the opportunity to nominate a vice presidential candidate, decided to prop up his stooge in the person of Prof Osinbajo.

“Now the real reason Senator Tinubu nominated Osinbajo has been made known to us and we hereby offer a public service to the Nigerian people by drawing national attention to it. Credible pieces of information at our disposal indicate that Tinubu has perfected plans to come to power through the back door.

“Senator Tinubu, according to our information, has compelled Professor Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event that their party wins. The wicked plot, as laid out by them, is to force Professor Osinbajo to resign for Senator Tinubu to be nominated by General Buhari as his replacement.

“The ultimate objective of this plot is to ensure that Tinubu becomes President. The script is simple: given the questionable health of General Buhari, Senator Tinubu who is desperate to be president for his own selisfh reasons will simply bid his time in the evil expectation that General Buhari will not be able to go the whole hog.”

Politics / Only Bus Conductors Ask For Change – Patience Jonathan by Dotun9: 10:22am On Feb 27, 2015
The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has described Peoples Democratic Party as a party that talks less and does more because only bus conductors ask for change, political parties shouldn’t be asking for change.

Dame Jonathan also urged Nigerian women to vote for PDP saying that any woman that votes for the All Progressives Congress is her enemy.

Dame Jonathan made this statement at Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State during the PDP Women for Change Initiative Presidential Rally in the state.

She said “The PDP is a party that talks less and does more, unlike the APC that tells new lies every week. When you catch them today, they will tell another lie tomorrow.

“We do not tell you about change because we are not bus conductors that ask for change.

“We are now in a digital age and we should reject anyone who wants to take us back to analog days. They keep saying they will do this and that. They should tell us what they have done for Nigerians while in office.

“President Goodluck Jonathan has brought a lot of innovation and empowerment programmes for us women. This is because no one loves the Nigerian woman more than Mr. President and the best way to pay him back is by re-electing him.”

She mentioned the Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria, YouWin and Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) as some of the empowerment programmes President Jonathan administration has for women and youths in the country.

Politics / From Experience, 80% Of My Advisers Have Nothing To Say – President Jonathan by Dotun9: 8:10pm On Feb 26, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that majority of individuals who advise him are useless with nothing meaningful to say.

Jonathan said this in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, at a special funeral service for eight female politicians and their driver, who died in road accident on February 14.

They were said to be returning to Yenagoa from Port Harcourt in Rivers State, where they had gone to vista the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

Speaking at the funeral in response to a remark by the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, President Jonathan said he had experienced such from when he was a deputy governor.

Dickson had said at the funeral that he was advised against organising a state burial for the deceased.

Jonathan said: “I am surprised when the governor (of Bayelsa) said some people asked why state burial.

“And I told the governor that more than 80 per cent of people who come to advice you have nothing to say. But just listen to them.

“From my experience as a deputy governor till today, more than 80 per cent (of advisers) have nothing to say. But you listen to everybody and do what is right for our people.”

Politics / Bamidele Describes Fayose As A ‘cancer’; Urges Him To Be Civil by Dotun9: 11:22am On Feb 26, 2015
A member of House of Representatives and former governorship candidate in Ekiti under the Labour Party, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele, has described Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as a ‘cancer’, over his constant attacks and seeming obsession with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bamidele bemoaned the fact that Fayose was denigrating the age and person of Buhari to the extent of wishing him dead”, while also admonishing him to be civil in his actions and utterances in the public domain.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti, Bamidele said: “Even if, according to Governor Fayose, General Buhari had visited a hospital during his foreign trip, the reasonable question to ask, I would think, is whether or not General Buhari deserves rest or even a medical check-up after a full-fledged and most rigorous (over 30 days) campaign during which he did not miss a single rally?”

“Just like President Jonathan has a right to contest and legitimately expect to win, he has equally assured all and sundry that if he loses the election, he will honourably handover to the winner; making it clear that neither a military nor an interim regime would be an acceptable alternative.”

“If President Jonathan is speaking in this parlance and Governor Fayose is busy abusing former President Olusegun Obasanjo while denigrating the age and person of Gen. Buhari to the extent of wishing him dead, then surely Governor Fayose must be weeping more than the bereaved. And when a sympathiser is weeping more than the bereaved, there is definitely a cause for suspicion.”

“Let Governor Fayose caution himself. Let him leave Gen. Buhari alone and come up with a more positive and decent manner of adding value to our democracy and politics. Right now, he is like cancer. Let him stop dragging the name and image of Ekiti in the mud. Ekiti people abhor hate politics and if even Abuja would disown Gov. Fayose’s hate campaign style, then the extent of damage he is doing to the Jonathan campaign in Ekiti State is better left in the realm of imagination.”

“No decent Ekiti man or woman, either in the private or public sector, and no Ekiti politician, either in PDP, APC, Labour Party or any other political party can be proud of how Governor Fayose has carried himself since the beginning of this campaign or how he has continued to portray the image of Ekiti as a community of people with integrity deficit.”

“As an Ekiti stakeholder, I, like other credible illustrious citizens of the State, deal with this issue on a daily basis, taking pain to explain the Ekiti personality and core values to those who care to listen, reminding all concerned people at home and abroad that fine gentlemen and patriots like Aare Afe Babalola, Chief Wole Olanipekun, Com. Femi Falana are indigenes of the State.”

Politics / We Need Captain Sagir To Validate The Ekiti Leaked Tape – Jonathan by Dotun9: 11:15am On Feb 26, 2015
The controversy surrounding the leaked Ekiti audio by Captain Sagir Koli took a different dimension when President Goodluck Jonathan said he could not investigate the audio because it was not real while also claiming that he hasn’t listened to it.

As the furore gathered more momentum while being pressed further by the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress to investigate the tape, the president later revealed that the unavailability of the Captain to come out of his hiding and authenticate the tape as he was told by the Department of State Security was why he couldn’t investigate the matter.

It will noted that after Captain Koli escaped, his 15-year-old brother, Ahmadu Koli, a pupil of Army Children School, who was staying with him, was arrested and tortured at a military facility in Ibadan Oyo, and detained for about five months.

The Captain escaped after he was tipped off about the order from the army hierarchy to arrest him.

“In fact, when this story came up, I asked the DG Department of State Security Service if they had investigated the matter, and he told me that they had some investigations, and then called for the person who claimed he recorded it and that he disappeared and nobody can reach him,” Mr. Jonathan said.

“There was no formal petition before them, but because of the general interest, they wanted to have him interviewed to know where this was coming from. If someone comes up with a spurious allegation that has no substance and the person disappears, of course, what do you want me to do? Definitely, anytime we get him, he’ll have to substantiate his allegations. There is a lot of false stories being circulated and it is very sad,” he added.

The President did not explain why Mr. Koli needed to validate the recording before investigations could be launched into the scandal and he also did not say whether security agencies must always wait for petitions before investigating weighty issues such as the Ekiti rigging scandal.

“I have not watched the video (it is an audio recording, not video). I said that it was a fabrication because, you see, people now, especially with the social media; we could be here and discuss issues and somebody will hack some of our voices and create a story that never happened,” he said.

“Therefore I am not saying that a meeting in question was held or not held, but the issue of conspiring to rig, I said it was a fabrication,” he said.

It will, however be noted that the All Progressives Congress was implicated in the tape where a principal actor said they had to be at alert because he had learnt the APC were scheming how to rig the elections.

The question begging for answer is Can the tape be proven to mean a conspiracy to rig was actually taking place especially with evidence of APC being involved in rigging contained in this same Ekiti recording and other audiovisual evidence in the cloud?

Politics / We Will Shock APC In South West – PDP by Dotun9: 10:27am On Feb 25, 2015
Peoples Democratic Party has said that the party will record outstanding victory in the six geo-political zones in the country especially in the south-west.

National Deputy Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus while speaking with newsmen in Abuja said “the president is not going to lose the election. I am telling you emphatically that we will win this election convincingly in the six geopolitical zones. Even in the South-West, we will shock them,

“We will do far better than we did in 2011 in the entire North generally, despite the security challenges we are facing over there.

“There is no shaking In the North-West, especially Kano, where we lost the governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the APC, but we gained the incumbent education minister, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and he is going to make the difference.”

He added that All Progressives Congress will be grossly disappointed by the results of the polls in the south west because in the last two weeks, President Goodluck Jonathan has commissioned two projects in the south west.

Politics / Buhari Is Fit To Rule This Country – Kwankwaso by Dotun9: 11:05am On Feb 24, 2015
Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso has described presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd.) as sound, hale and fit to rule the country.

Kwankwaso also went further to say that Buhari is even healthier that President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a statement made in Kano, Kwankwaso said “By my judgement, since we finished our party primary elections, he is sound, hale and fit to rule this country. In fact I feel he is healthier than the incumbent occupier of the seat because he went to all the states on campaigns in addition to other engagements that come in between.”

Meanwhile Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has said that Buhari is too frail to rule because he can’t even be the governor of a state let alone be the president.

Fayose during a press briefing on Monday said “I don’t have anything against the North. I also don’t have anything against General Buhari. But one thing is certain. The General is too weak, too frail to be President. He can’t even be the governor of his state let alone being the President of this country.”

Fayose added that Buhari fielded an interview with foreign journalists in a suite at the Transcorps Hilton Hotel, Abuja, and not the UK as being portrayed by his campaign organisation.

In response, the Director of Media and Information Technology of the Buhari Support Organisation, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, who is also a medical doctor reportedly said “The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, is suffering from what we call in medicine, ‘obsessive compulsive disorder’ based on an appetite and a wish to see General Muhammadu Buhari dead.

“He is a psychopath whose obsession has altered his sense of rational analysis of situations whenever he hears the name Buhari. Unfortunately, he is not God and does not have control of the life of our revered General.

“Fayose should go back home and prepare to defend himself in the case of the massive rigging that led to the stolen mandate he currently enjoys and leave our General alone.”

Politics / Our Politics Has Gone Beyond Sharing Of Rice, Yams Or Cubes Of Sugar – Oshiomhol by Dotun9: 10:44am On Feb 24, 2015
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has appealed to voters not to be deceived by the People’s Democratic Party, which will share cubes of sugar, tubers of yam and grains for their votes.

He stated this while commissioning the 35-bed “Clara Oshiomhole Comprehensive Health Centre” named after the late wife of the governor and built by a member of the Edo State House of Aassembly, Hon. Dele Oloruntoba, as part of his constituency project.

Oshiomhole said: “Let me remind our people that there are two parties in Nigeria: the party that believes government should work for the people and the one that believes that government money must be shared among some people and put into individual pockets.”

Oshiomhole said money has been appropriated for constituency project in the past but were put into private pockets by leaders of the PDP.

“In a democracy, everybody must be identified by his father’s name. If you work, it will be seen. If you don’t work, it will be seen and we must put your name against your performance.”

“In all that we do, the first consideration is that we must apply public funds in a way that would deliver happiness to the majority of our people.

“And it is also noteworthy that even when you did not win nomination in the last primary, you could have decided that since you are not seeking re-nomination, you don’t care anymore.

“I want to appeal to our people that this forthcoming election is not for us to vote for cubes of sugar, tubers of yam or bag of rice. Our politics has gone beyond that level.

“If you vote because of these materiel things, the consequences are such that development will be far. For 10 years, all the money was stolen and it was put in private pockets and they bring a small percentage to share when election is approaching.

“I am proud of my party and I ask you to support the All Progressives Congress and its candidates from the presidency to the House of Assembly elections. Our people know now that PDP is a party of cheats and anytime you see red roofs, you know it is APC.

“May I also inform you that this election is not about tribalism. One of the causes of Nigeria’s problems is this issue of tribalism. The issue is that a party that will not work will not work.”

Oshiomhole was conferred with the title of Aigbonaga of Ekpedo for the numerous developmental strides in the state.
The conferment was done by the Onose of Ekpedo, Oba John Obabori, who said it was for the governor’s commitment to providing qualitative health care for the people.

Politics / I Will Revive And Transform Our Economy Just As I Did In 1983 – Buhari by Dotun9: 11:06am On Feb 23, 2015
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, General Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday promised Nigerians that if elected into power, he would revive the failing economy being witnessed under the President Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government while saying he still has the 1983 magic to transform the nation’s economy

In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, the APC observed the panicky and uncoordinated management of the national economy by President Jonathan and his economic team.

According to the statement: “For our presidential candidate, General Buhari, it is a walk back through history. Recall that the Nigerian economy at this time shares characteristics with the Nigerian economy of 1983 when he took charge of the reign of government on a rescue mission. The Naira was weak, crude oil prices were plummeting – coupled with a heavy debt profile. Hopefully, APC will turn the nation’s economy around.

“Our party’s economic policies are consciously conceived to be people-centred. For the first time in over three decades, Nigeria will experience a truly pro-people Federal Government. This is our commitment to the mass of our people, help is on the way, they should not despair.”

The statement also restated Buhari’s commitment to end profligacy, mismanagement of the nation’s revenue, which is dwindling by the day, and block leakages with a view to saving needed funds to drive an APC-led government’s economic and infrastructure development.

The statement said further: “It is crystal clear that our revenues are dwindling by the day and if we must survive, we cannot continue on this path of near absence of accountability, mismanagement, outright waste and jamboree that has characterised the management of public resources under the Jonathan-led PDP government. General Buhari by his antecedents will run a lean government that will free resources to be deployed to his envisaged government’s interventions in critical infrastructure and economic development.

“It is apparent that the Federal Government has suddenly found itself in a bind with plummeting crude oil prices in the international market, but typical of a team that lacks capacity for anticipatory actions, the Federal Government has been running from pillar to post in a vain bid to stabilise the economy. Unfortunately, all conceived palliatives applied to save the nation’s declining economic indicators have merely scrapped the surface of the problems leaving the mass of Nigerians desperate, confused and hungrier.”

Shehu said the nation’s debt profile under the current Federal Government grew exponentially even while the country recorded the highest revenue accrued from impressive crude oil prices over a five-year period before the downward spiral of international oil prices.

Shehu added in the statement: “With external debt standing at more than $10 billion and our internal debts at more than $50 billion, it is without doubt that President Jonathan is driving Nigeria into economic wilderness. This should be a cause for concern for all well-meaning Nigerians, more so when the Federal Government responses to these rising economic challenges have, at best, been casual.

“Emblematic of this casual, non-profound approach to the management of the national economy is the Central Bank of Nigeria’s devaluation of the national currency in November 2014 while retaining the Retail Dutch Auction System. Dramatically, just under three months after that devaluation, the CBN, obviously buffeted by unanticipated dynamics in the foreign exchange market, announced the closure of the RDAS and the Wholesale Dutch Auction System. This shows clearly an uncoordinated template in the management of the national economy.”

Shehu added that the mismanagement of the economy by the Federal Government was turning Nigerians into economic derelicts, a people incapable of living up to required standards of existence, “but help is on the way”.

He said: “Though we are conscious of the dire economic strait the Federal Government has pushed Nigerians into, we can assure the mass of Nigerian people that help is on the way. We know that an APC controlled Federal Government will obviously inherit a huge debt profile and an empty treasury from this PDP Federal Government. We are confident of turning the situation around.”

Politics / Calling For An Interim Government Is A Treasonable Action – President Jonathan by Dotun9: 10:59am On Feb 23, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has labelled calls for an Interim National Government in the country as “treasonable”, while disassociating himself from such campaign.

He further said that the idea of an ING is foreign to the 1999 Constitution, as amended, adding that ECOWAS will not accept that should the military toy with it.

The President, who spoke at the opening mass for the plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Garki, Abuja, therefore warned those linking him with such plan to beware that it is treasonable.

He also assured Nigerians and the international community that elections will hold on the rescheduled dates of March 28 and April 11 as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“‎There is no way Goodluck Jonathan elected by people with clear mandate will now go and head an interim government. The only interim government anybody can constitute is that of the military government, which of course will not be accepted.”

“ECOWAS, AU, UN won’t accept it. And Nigeria will not be a pariah state. Clearly, the insinuation of interim government to me is treasonable. Elections will be conducted as scheduled by INEC.”

According to the President, the election postponement was a blessing in disguise, saying the casualty figure in the February 14 Gombe State attack would have been worse if the election went ahead.

“Look at what happened in Gombe on February 14th, if the elections had been held, the casualty figure after that attack in Gombe would have been great. It is better for us to conduct elections that will not be contested, ‎elections that are credible, free and fair.”

“We believe no criminal element can come and prevent us from conducting our elections. I will not do anything because of personal interest that would jeopardize the interest of this nation.”

President Jonathan described the theme of the conference as unique, noting that ‎even the bible acknowledges that if the foundation is not right, the righteous cannot do much.

Politics / Ameachi Is The Cause Of River’s Crisis – PDP by Dotun9: 7:36pm On Feb 22, 2015
Deputy National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Uche Secondus has said that River’s State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi is the cause of the crisis in the state.

Secondus during a press briefing in Abuja said “The crisis in Rivers State is Amaechi. You journalists should investigate. He shut down the courts. He shut down the state assembly and he is now the sole administrator and maximum leader and the people are resisting.

“Salaries aren’t paid as at when due, the state fund being taken away to sponsor the presidential candidate of the APC, General Muhhamadu Buhari. Our jet now is owned by Buhari. Where in this world is it done that people are happy?

‘’Therefore, all the news of crisis is being generated by Amaechi, because he has lost the state and he sustains himself on the pages of newspapers. Amaechi is the problem.”

He also added that the Okrika crisis is between two factions of the All Progressives Congress.

He said “The Okrika matter that you talked about was APC versus APC, but Amaechi is orchestrating it as if it was the PDP and he is even bringing the name of the wife of the President.”

While reacting to the allegations, Ameachi who reportedly spoke through his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tony Okocha described the allegations as spurious and illogical.

Politics / PDP Should Have Expelled Obasanjo A Long Time Ago – Edwin Clark by Dotun9: 7:28pm On Feb 22, 2015
Chief Edwin Clark, Ijaw national leader has berated the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), for failing to expel former President, Olusegun Obasanjo a long time ago

Clark, who is an ally of President Goodluck Jonathan, says most of the ruling party’s chieftains and people in the present administration, are Obasanjo’s loyalists, and as such, saw nothing wrong with his ‘anti-party activities’.

In a recent interview with Vanguard, Clark said: “You asked me earlier whether some of the party leaders surrounding Jonathan are not contributing to some of the problems that people alleged have been committed and I said yes. Some of them were with Obasanjo, past governors; some ministers who were appointed by Obasanjo during his tenure see nothing wrong with Obasanjo.”

“They continue to beg him when they know that the man has taken a position against the PDP. When people like us criticize Obasanjo, they say we are controversial, that we heat up the polity.”

“Today, Obasanjo has told them; he did not only dump them, he told the public, ‘here is your membership, take it’, and he tore it into pieces. Is that action normal? But it is now clear to the PDP men, leaders who were protecting Obasanjo when I called that he should be expelled.”

“They said that there was no reason for me to say that. But now it has happened, it is now clear. As far as I am concerned, Obasanjo has been engaging in anti-party activities and should have been expelled since then. Immediately he resigned the chairmanship of the BoT, he engaged in anti-party issues.”

Politics / Air Force Strikes Sambisa Forest As Terrorists Scamper For Safety by Dotun9: 11:02am On Feb 20, 2015
The Boko Haram insurgents have recorded heavy casualty as Nigerian troops comb the nooks and crannies of Sambisa forests and part of Gwoza in Borno State.

The Defence Headquarters yesterday said a concerted air campaign by the Nigerian Air Force is ongoing in furtherance of the mission to clear Boko Haram members from all their enclaves.

A statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, said the airstrikes targeted Sambisa Forest and Gwoza.

He said: “The air strikes which today targeted the training camps and logistics dumps of the terrorists in Sambisa Forest and parts of Gwoza have been highly successful as it achieved the aims with the required precision.

“The death of a large number of terrorists has been recorded, while many others are also scampering all over the forest and out of the struck bases.

“Meanwhile, the strikes continue in other locations of the theatre, heralding the advance of troops and other elements of the mission.”

Politics / Fleeing Terrorists Are Engaged In Menial Jobs – Omeri Warns Nigerians by Dotun9: 10:52am On Feb 20, 2015
The coordinating spokesman of the National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, has advised Nigerians to be more vigilant, as some members of the terrorist group engage in menial jobs in order to ward off security operatives.

Mr Omeri explained that the military onslaught against members of Boko Haram terrorist group in the north-east had forced members of the group to take up menial jobs.

Addressing a weekly news conference of the Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr Omeri announced the re-capture of more towns in the north-east by Nigerian troops supported by the regional Multi National Force.

He noted that the onslaught against the insurgents would be intensified until terrorist activities were reduced to the barest minimum and eventually wiped out.

Mr Omeri, who commended the renewed support by the regional forces and the offer of assistance from the United States of America, however, appealed to politicians to shun violent acts and provocative comments.

He condemned the recent attack that occurred in Okrika in Rivers State, saying “it is unacceptable for Nigerians to be attacked at a political rally”.

Sporadic gunshots by unknown hoodlums had scuttled the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally at the National Secondary School, in Rivers State on Tuesday.

Politics / No PVC, No Communion – Rev. Ukpai Tells Congregation by Dotun9: 7:58pm On Feb 19, 2015
Rev. Uma Ukpai of Victory Cathedral Fellowship Center, Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on Thursday announced that the church would stop communion for members who had not collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Ukpai made the announcement during a church service in Uyo and said that it was unpatriotic for any Nigerian eligible voter not to participate in the electoral process.

He called on Nigerians to use the opportunity provided by the rescheduling of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to collect their PVCs to enable them chose their leaders through the polls.

He said, “The 2015 general election is too important for a Nigerian of voting age not to participate in electing their political leaders for the next four years.

‘’If you are a true member of this fellowship and you have not collected your PVC, know that you will not partake in our communion service.

‘’We must take this election serious because we must rise up and protect our future.”

The clergyman urged politicians to eschew violence during electioneering.

Politics / APC Has Won The Elections, Except PDP Rigs On The Other Side – Tinubu by Dotun9: 5:27pm On Feb 19, 2015
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday declared that the ruling People’s Democratic Party can’t rig out its Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari this time while expressing his confidence of his party’s victory in next general elections.

Asiwaju stated this while speaking at a stakeholders meeting of Lagos APC insisted that May 29 remains sacrosanct, stressing that the ‘APC has won the elections, except they rig on the other side.’

He said no amount of intimidation and treats from the presidency and the PDP will shake APC ahead of the elections.

“We are ready for the elections. They think they are wise by postponing the elections, but they are not. APC has won this election except they rig on the other side. All their intimidation will amount to nothing during the elections. They tried to intimidate us during last year Osun State governorship election but they failed. We will be on the street waiting for them. Since they brought soldiers to my house, I have been sleeping very well because I am not afraid of them.

“We have been working hard in Abuja. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must use the card readers whether they like it. PDP doesn’t want it but we are going to resist their plan. They cannot rig us out. March 28 is sacrosanct but before then we are going to ensure we get highest of our voters Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).

“This is the time for unity and understanding. Nigeria is going through challenges and we want to change Nigeria for the interest of the masses. So, this is the time for change. We should also tell our Igbo brothers that we are one for the same economy. The exchange rate rise from N95 to N210 in Jonathan’s hands and he will continue to give us excuses. We must change him.”

Tinubu appealed to the party members to canvass for registered voters in their neighbourhood to collect their PVCs to increase the number of voters in the state.

Politics / Bolaji Muhammed: Why Obasanjo’s Farewell To The PDP Spells Goodluck For Nigerian by Dotun9: 12:11pm On Feb 18, 2015
Nigerians finally have an opportunity to rid themselves from decades of military rule and recycled rule.

The opportunity first came when Obasanjo tore his PDP membership card. That singular act signaled the end of the era of godfatherism of the worst type, military godfathers in Nigeria.

Nigerians are known for saying one thing and doing the other. In one sentence we will say we want change, and in the next we will say we want the same military dictator that brutalized many of our people less than half a century ago. The irony of this is lost on many Nigerians in a trance as they dance to a ballad played by the Pied Piper of Bourdillon.

Earlier today news that a security aide to Gombe Governor, , one Mr. Abdullahi Muhammad, also tore his PDP card for the camera made the rounds.

His grouse with the PDP was reported to be that the national cake is not being shared very well.

Some economic analysts have said that a Buhari presidency would drain Nigeria financially and economically because suddenly another 10 million or so Nigerians would be gunning for the National Cake which is still largely funded by oil wells in the Niger Delta.

So this battle and soul for the seat of power which is attracting recruits to the APC is not based on merit but based on “this is supposed to be our turn to eat the national cake.” Anyhow you slice it, it spells disaster for more Nigerians.

Nigeria’s 2015 elections can be likened to the crucifixion of Christ when Pontius Pilate gave the Jews what he thought would be an easy decision, Barabas and Jesus Christ. The rest is history. But Nigeria will learn from history and not repeat the mistakes of our predecessors.

These godfathers in the military whom we have a loathsome yet loving relationship with will end at the polls this year, when GEJ will be rewarded with a second term by the grace of God.

So in one fell swoop, Nigerians will have kicked out their lingering military godfathers. Hallelujah.

It sincerely needs to be done. Buhari can’t change Nigeria. Only Nigerians collectively can change Nigeria but alas Nigerians are a lazy people. We would rather hire a taskmaster to do it for us. It’s a homicidal and retrogressive system of politics.

We live in a country where the opposition leader has become so powerful, the Chairman of Alimosho Local Government was caught on tape performing a voodoo ritual complete with human blood, all because he thought Tinubu would grow disgruntled with him. Strange and perilous times indeed.

Nigerians should return to the PDP enmasse because with the self-resignation from PDP by Obasanjo, we are going to a better place.

Many corrupt politicians have already left for APC. Even though the difference between APC and PDP may be as little as that of stealing and corruption, perhaps we can solidify our positioning in a better era.

Jonathan should be made a second term President. He has the desire to transform Nigeria and he is not bothered by godfathers and cronies again. He will surely move Nigeria forward. Let us reward him for the small strides he has made even as we pray for more. Things will get better.

Let’s move Nigeria forward.

Politics / How @obiasika’s Appointment As Social Media Czar May Boost Jonathan’s Image Onli by Dotun9: 12:04pm On Feb 18, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has added pop culture expert and entertainment executive, Obi Asika to his communications team.

The Storm Records Founder and Social Media Week Lagos Chairman who boasts a string of success stories in the media and new media industries is expected to bring his skills to bear as regards dealing with the social media problems plaguing the Presidency and the Federal Government in general.
Social Media Industry insiders have routinely said one of the pitfalls of the Jonathan administration has been not mobilizing adequate resources to the new media space . The global acceptance and popularity of mediums like Facebook and Twitter have made it a game changer for political strategy and the opposition was hands down better prepared.
Opposition leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu owns several profitable media companies and the Lagos State government is reported to have one of the largest media budgets amongst states in Nigeria, allegedly paying editors about N300 million every quarter.
The APC also hired an American firm AKPD Media to spruce up its image on the world stage and this has attracted patronage from Al Jazeera to New York Times for the main opposition party.
Perception is the name of the game with political campaigning and the APC started the game earlier. They initiated their campaign of calumny against the PDP ever since the present administration drew the contempt of the common man with the fuel subsidy debacle.
The social media rage that began then has snowballed into the sh*tstorm the PDP finds itself in on social media channels.
By hiring a businessman of Mr. Asika’s caliber, the Federal Government is taking a no prisoners approach in trying to solve the problem and it is better late than never.
Obi is one of few Nigerian youth that genuinely has the interest of Nigeria in mind. His entrepreneurial mind and visionary thinking has created some of Africa’s favorite celebrities and brands both on and off the screens and radio waves.
His in depth knowledge of issues concerning Nigeria’s cultural political, and socio-economic affairs coupled with a broad understanding of new media and global best practices make Obi a force to be reckoned with and a great addition to Mr. Jonathan’s communications team.

Politics / Who Will Ask Obasanjo To Shut Up? By Shehu Dikko by Dotun9: 11:57am On Feb 18, 2015
I promised to shut up and take a long break but since I had asked Obasanjo to disappear and he won’t, I thought I should dart in with some justification as to why he really ought to be told to shut up and disappear, and, for me, personally, also to say to him: you can’t fool me. It is a slightly revised version of a comment I offered in another discussion. It should explain itself.

Thanks for sharing Dan Agbese’s 2000 article about Haroun Adamu’s probe of the Petroleum Trust Fund. It seems that people are digging.

Buhari didn’t run the PTF. He left it to somebody who allegedly came from his circle of friends and family, and went to sleep. It was alleged to have been run just like any old inept Nigerian government venture. No difference whatsoever. Its officials allegedly took bribes, awarded overinflated contracts and the like. As a result, one of the men on the board of the PTF, the late Group Captain Usman Jibrin, who would have none of it, decided to resign. Buhari stayed put.

I also see you paying attention to Obasanjo’s self-serving talk. Not many are seeing the self-serving disposition right now but it is to the credit of Jonathan that he has actually grown the balls to refuse to continue to take dictation from him. If truth be told, it is easier to point to where Jonathan has spent money in his four+ years than it is to show what Obasanjo did in his first term.

Let us be concrete. Obasanjo faced turbulence, Sharia riots, Odi. Obasanjo failed to punish the perpetrators of the Sharia riots, that served to embolden others including the Haramites; he was high-handed in dealing with Odi, that served to further militarise.

Jonathan has had to deal with the consequences of Obasanjo’s failures in addition to the BH which is now a problem with a serious destabilizing foreign dimension. This has provided a very tough environment for government.

Worse still owing to the circumstances in which he came into office and the sense of betrayal felt by the many northerners who consider their turn to rule as having been hijacked, as well as his failure to properly reach out to the disgruntled, he has been unable to win the confidence and support of influential sections of the North.

This failure is what I foresaw in 2011, and warned that it could lead to division. That North is also suffering from another problem which is a direct consequence of the Babangida privatisation programme which was accelerated and completed by Obasanjo.

I have a problem with the privatisation of vital social services but that is irrelevant here. Recall the old days. There was a time when people looked forward to Board appointments, First Bank, NITEL and the whole battery of other huge government owned enterprises.

Membership of those boards afforded people the opportunity to use their influence to serve the interests of their immediate communities, and because of the Federal Character principle, this patronage was widely spread but always what were seen to be the choicest positions were invariably occupied by northerners.

Federal Character also ensured that there was a spread of offices of those companies occupied by local employees thoughout the country. That disappeared completely under Obasanjo. The persons who bought the privatised companies were mainly persons from outside the North, ditto those who stepped up to fill the vacuum created by the disappearance of NITEL who have only been driven by market considerations which cannot overlook employee competence.

It’s not been noticed by many but the handful of companies bought by northerners, like Nigerian Ropes and Steyr, have floundered or have been comatose since they acquired them. For a North used to widescale patronage, it has been hard to deal with new realities, which is why so many there are intent on doing whatever they can to ensure a return to the old comfort.

One new reality from which there is no escaping is that Jonathan has actually shown a commitment to making and fulfilling promises which is why he has been running for re-election on his record, something which Obasanjo did not do in 2003.Obasanjo could not have done so. He built a stadium in Abuja, and its Games Village. That’s it.

He channeled a lot of money to power generation. The rest of the time, Obasanjo was away from his desk on extended visits abroad. He left Atiku to run the government. Obasanjo and Atiku were later to build their own private schools and universities.

By contrast, Jonathan has built new government schools and universities; built a major new railway line, Kaduna-Abuja, for the first time in a hundred years; built a road between Abuja and Lokoja that is the finest in the country; is building a metro line in Abuja; empowerd Innoson Motors of Nnewi to manufacture transport buses that are visible on our highways. All these are things he committed to doing in the aftermath of the oil subsidy saga, and he has managed to do them despite the major challenge of BH.

I have not dismissed the view that aspects of the complex BH problem are the work of persons working to return to that which they had grown accustomed. But what’s your general take on the election campaign so far? I honestly fear it may all end up being of only “academic interest.”The stakes are very very high. There are operators with ugly records who will stop at nothing. There is trouble on the horizon. I have sent out warnings. I hope they are heeded.

Politics / Boko Haram Has Grievances No One Is Attending To – Obasanjo by Dotun9: 10:41am On Feb 17, 2015
Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said that Boko Haram has grievances that no one is attending to because of the development situation in their area.

Obasanjo who spoke to South African TV Channel, eNCA’s Raphael Ambasu in Kenya last week when he launched his memoir, My Watch said “I decided to find out facts on my own. After the Boko Haram attacked the UN house in Abuja, I thought it was getting too far, I wanted to know if there is an organization, and if there is an organization, what is its objective? Are they organized? Do they have leaders? What are their grievances? Are they ready to talk and all that, which I took up on my own.

“I spoke to the president and said “look can I do this on my own?” he said “look you can go and do it” and I thank him and I went. In fact he said he will give me a plane to go around. I said “look I don’t want a plane to go around because if I take a government plane to go around, I become a government agent and that would be suspect. No I don’t want the government to give it, so I did it on my own. The find, Yes, there is an organization, they have leaders, they have objectives, Sharia is their objective and Sharia law is not a problem, it is part of our constitution; they have grievances which nobody seems to be attending to, the development situation in their area.

“You see how they came about Boko Haram, that’s not the name they give themselves but their leader before he was killed in cold blood by the police. Mohammed Yusuf called in graduates that were with him and said “look bring your certificates, one who has first class, one who has second class, upper second class, lower and all that and one who has masters, so okay with your certificates can you use them to feed yourself? if you cannot use it to feed yourself, of what use is it?” So that’s where they got that appellation Boko Haram.

“Do they want to talk? At that time they wanted to talk, they even said they will talk not in Africa and I said to their proxy but look this is an African problem, it will be solved on African soil. Do they have leaders? yes they have leaders. So all things that I found out are reported faithfully to the authority.”

Meanwhile the Defence Headquarters has described Obasanjo as a shame to the military.

The Defence Headquarters made the comment in a statement posted on its Facebook page while reacting to a statement credited to the former President that the General Elections were postponed to enable President Goodluck Jonathan use the Service Chiefs for tenure extension.

The statement read “The Defence Headquarters has noted the remarks of a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, as reported in the media stating his views on perceived state of the armed forces and the roles being allegedly played by the military in the nation’s political process in recent times…

“It is however noteworthy that most of his utterances lately indicate an attitude of playing to the gallery or indulging in politicisation of serious national security or military affairs. For instance, the comments credited to Chief Obasanjo alleging that the postponement of the General Elections was to enable President Jonathan to use the Service Chiefs to plot a tenure extension is to say the least, very surprising.

“It is surprising indeed, considering the fact that the retired General chose to ignore the clarification and emphatic assurances of non-partisanship of the military as declared in a DHQ statement on the position of the Armed Forces in the ongoing political activities. His motive as usual remains unknown but it is certainly less than noble or well intentioned. We dare say again that Chief Obasanjo’s assertions are false.

“Much as the military desires to respect the old General and his views, it has become necessary to point out that his conduct and unguarded utterances of late have fallen short of the standard of discipline expected of an individual who has had the privilege of service in the military and risen to the status of a General.

“The behaviour of retired General (Chief) Obasanjo has been so unbecoming and continues to constitute a serious embarrassment to the military before all who have reasonably and rightly adjudged the essence of military background in terms of the high value and standard it tends to contribute to statesmanship.

“We feel constrained to remind the old General that the world has moved beyond that parochial and self-adulating reasoning and mindset which he seems stuck to. Indeed, he needs to be told that by virtue of their better training, exposure, education, assessment and environment, the military personnel of today are already far beyond his level in their appreciation of democracy and its indispensability for the stable and prosperous society which Nigerians cherish.”

Politics / Mbu Is A Lawless And Barbaric Officer – APC by Dotun9: 9:58pm On Feb 14, 2015
The All Progressives Congress has described the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2 Command, Joseph Mbu, as a lawless and barbaric policeman who should urgently be called to order by his boss before he starts another around of his trade-mark nihilism in his new posting.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Mbu’s actions since he was posted to Lagos have neither dignified the police as an institution nor portrayed him as a well-trained law enforcement agent.

It said the temperament, comportment, utterances and actions of Mbu, a very senior police officer, are capable of inciting mass killings, violence and anarchy.

The APC said: “Since his posting to the Zone 2 Command, this contumacious policeman has exhibited an egregious act of lawlessness by barging through the Lekki Toll Plaza without paying toll and then ordering the arrest of policemen and workers at the Plaza. Is it not an irony that a man who is trained to enforce the law is the same who is breaking the law?

“But that action, as bad as it was, pales into insignificance when compared to his most recent statement in which he was basically inciting the police against the citizenry and encouraging the killing of civilians. It is sheer irresponsibility for a senior policeman to say that for every policeman who is killed during the election, he will kill 20 civilians.

“Lest we are misunderstood, our party will never condone the killing of police personnel or of any law enforcement agent for whatever reason, just as we will not condone the killing of any innocent Nigerian. If a senior police officer does not know how to convey to his officers and men that they should protect themselves while also avoiding extra-judicial killing of any citizen, then the funds spent in training him have been wasted.”

The party said such language as ‘fire-for-fire’, ‘If one of my men is killed, I shall kill 20 of them’ or ‘you have the power to stop the Governor’ is inappropriate, inciting and barbaric, especially under a democratic dispensation and is most unbecoming of a senior law enforcement agent.

It therefore said Mbu should be held solely responsible for any violence or killing of innocent citizens before, during and after the elections in the area under his command.

APC warned Mbu to mind his utterances and actions, shake off all the vestiges of lawlessness and barbarism for which he has become infamous and comport himself like a senior police officer that he is if he wants to succeed in his new assignment, adding: “If he continues in his old, unedifying ways, he will face a public opprobrium as he has never done before.”
