My friend lanre-paddy also got his visa approved. Glory be to God. Big thanks to deeverick, imperiousxx, lanre_paddy, and my Oga baiyewu and others thanks a bunch

Got to the embassy about 9:00. Was suppose to call my man lanre paddy but my phone was off. We dey oustide dem dey search us . Dem sha usher us inside, na him we thumbprint and all that. Started studying all the Vo's. Counter 1 a young white male was the best mehn, him sabi speak yoruba sef. Counter 4 a young white guy made a lot of brain too one young white dude, him dey give visa as long as you know wetin you won go do. Counter 6 a black american lady, she can ask questions well She will tackle you well before she gives you. As i still dey study them na him counter 7 from no where call me.

VO - Mr abc(addressed me by my surname) bring up your case.
Me- Mr name is xyz and i intend to go to the US to earn my masters degree in forensic psychology with a concentration in psycholingustics.
VO : why forensic psychology
Me : as a behavioural scientist i have come to the understanding that that crime rate in my country is on the increase due to the fact that we have a faulty inefficient justice system( gave example of boko haram and all these politicians wey dey theif money) so nigeria needs all professiosionals to fight issues of terrorism and make sure justice is served.
VO : but why this school
Me : the school of criminal justice in xyv uni versity is made of a faculty with professional background and expertise, as part of the faculty members we have ex US marines, fbi, and cia so i gain real world experience. Also student faculty ratio is 20:1 which gives me the chance to interact better with my professors.
VO: what plan do you have after the degree
Me: join the Nigerian Military
Vo: what will you do for them .
Me: work with the DIA(defence intelligence agency)
Vo : ok good. Did you do the GRE
Me : yes, gave him
Vo :read thru, and passed it back. Who is sponsoring you.
Me : my dad
VO : what does he do
Me : he is a businessman. We run a family business in automobile and i'm one of the directors
Vo : can i have his financial document and a letter from him.
Me : gave him, he read through.
Vo : he started typing for like 2 mins, my heart don cut. I was just wondering what he was typing. So how long is your program( at this point he brought out the green slip already).
Me: 24 months.
Vo: ok so pick your your visa on monday and make sure you take your i20 along and travel before the date on it blah blah blah.
Me: thanks.

Note: in my own personal reasoning. If you really plan to study and have a passion for your cousre you will definitely get it. Also please do standardised test oh, my man lanre got it today without it, but please do it. Undergraduates were given so were graduate applicants. Know your course well have a reason for choosing your school and of course please try God He doesn't fail.

Abeg which flight oh is it air royal or what @imperiousxx and baiyewu abeg help oh.

God is faithful. My visa was approved today in lagos by the last VO(counter 7 i guess) details coming shortly. Thanks guyz.
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by king14: 5:40pm On Jul 31, 2012
elektra: Hello house! My visa was granted yesterday at Lagos by VO 2. My interview was short and none of my documents were reviewed.

VO: Good morning can i have you documents?
Me: I handed them over to him
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: For undergraduate studies
VO: Undergraduate studies huh
Me: Yes
VO: What school did you apply to?
ME: XYZ UNIVERSITY
VO: You say you are going for Undergraduate studies?
Me: Yes. I have a three year degree from xyz university, i had applied for postgraduate studies but I was advised by the school to transfer my credit to undergraduate and top up to a four year degree before moving on to masters studies.
VO: What course are you going for?
Me: Biomedical science
VO: Tell me about it
Me: The course is designed to give the student a very good foundation in the biology of the body amongst other things, it also has and undergraduate research program that allows me to participate in a research lab of my choice
Vo: Typing quickly
Me: Praying inwardly
Vo: Tore the green ticket, held it and asked "Tell me about you three year program"
Me: I studied biotechnology, it gave me a very good understanding of the application of living things to ethical and social purposes. and so on
Vo: OK, we are going to issue. Pick up you visa on Thursday.

Let me just point out that even if you are on the older side you can go for undergrad studies if you can explain what you have been doing. Also, you do not have to wait for the VO to ask you some specific questions in order to answer, If you feel the need to thoroughly explain please do so. Another important thing, just spake clean and correct English in you usual accent no need to start forming accent for the white VOs they live in Nigeria, they know how Nigerians talk. And most importantly, PRAY! and have FAITH! I was scared cos my i 20 had said my course duration was 4 years but i knew my course duration was much lass since i was only going upgrade my undergrad and move to Masters so i wrote the correct length of studies in my ds 160 form. I prayed to God that the VO would be blind to this irregularity and God answered. Thank you to everyone that has contributed to this thread. Best of luck to everyone that is yet to go for the interview

Congrats i knew you will come through. God is ever faithful.

Cheers!

Had the test today, wasn't hard at all. You have to be very fast, current affairs questions are related to what was posted earlier, but the questions are different from one another, the lady in front of me had different patterns totally i saw it myself. So i belive everybodys question is quite different. The maths is simple but pls be fast. While i left many other people were waiting to write theirs.

Mr Rowlandoo he just answered your question and you are still asking . You can request for Emergency with the new mrv, they put a lot of things into consideration whether its up to 60 days from your start date and whether you have applied for emergency before. Its just luck. Just try your luck and see, if you are given a date before 10th fine,you then pray the Vo will honour the letter. if not you'll have to defer with thesame mrv to spring Simple!!!

@ovap no one here can gurantee visa, both the US embassy in abuja and the consular General in Lagos both issues visa so just go the the closest one to you and collect your visa. There is always a correlation between most courses it just falls under a continuum(degree). So use the internet and research to find along what continuum project management intercepts mech Engr. I'm positive you'll find one. Besides your course doesn't Necessarily have to be much related. A school is an environment for Continuous learning so you could develop different passion in an institution. If you took minors related to project management emphasize on it!

@akanbi_edu what's bad in studying aeronautic engineering

A change of job wouldn't affect your application and i want to believe that a B1 should be considered different from f1 but only God knows how this VO's operate. My honest opinion, work on your ties to Nigeria, if your parents have properties go along with their documents,since you work presently see if you can get a study leave letter from your coy. When asked any question about your course always relate it to Nigeria.

@mystiqme congrats bruv i wonder why they delayed you initially.

@Julie 55

Since you said you applied last year and was also denied and during your recent interview the Vo kept on typing on the system. I believe there is something on that system implicating you. Reflect back from your past application and try and sort any Discrepancies. Publich health is a good course and you are from a medical field so there is a fault somewhere. As for the passports you can go with the old one. If wearing a sweater will make you more comfortable pls do. I'm still Perplexed why your school indicated verification of funding on i20... Well not a big deal. Just reflect back on your application last year!

Cheers!

Please go to any one close to you Lagos or Abuja, its the same VO that is there. You never can tell where your help might come from. It might be the same Vo that has been denying peeps that will issue yours. My friend was denied in lagos somtime he then ran to abuja, was denied there too and came back to lagos and was issued within a minute.
You never know how the cards will turn out at the end of the day!

Congrats to everyone that has gotten their visas and those of us still awaiting interview, the Lord is our strenght!

@ProfGinger

Asking for redflags at this point would only increase your anxiety during the interview. Believe in yourself and your goal, you'll make it thru by Gods grace.

Just heard the Government of Arizona just won a law case and is really fighting against illegal immigrants. In as much as it doesnt affect students, i'll advise you put yourself in good shape if you'll be studying in Arizona.

Cheers

@smartmachine i concur with imperiouxx on this one, get anything to defend yourself, its better to be armed than be prone.

@kcluv2men,

How will an associate degree help you in nigeria with the present state of unemployment in Nigeria, just be frank and tell me? It is the lowest in the hierarchy of post-secondary academic degrees. You will just be passing a sgfnal to the VO that you have no actual intent to study. Anything that will sound bad in your ears will definitely sound worst in the VOs'. Please drop it. Finish your undergraduate in Nigeria and apply for graduate studies in US.
The reasons why undergraduate applications have a low success rate is:
1) The applicant probably just finished secondary school, and has no reasonable idea of his program(so can't express himself at interview so the VO thinks he is quite immature/not focused).
2)Having your undergraduate in Nigeria is a tie on its own(during this period you discover a lot about yourself and your country cause you are with similar peers).
3)America wants the best for their people, and there is little significance you can contribute at that level.

Cheers!
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by king14: 12:27pm On Jun 22, 2012
@lanrypaddy

Have your school write a letter to the US consulate, stating why GRE was waived specifically for you. Do mention all the schools you applied to including the one in *UK* and Nigeria. Have a good genuine reason for choosing the one in US over the others. Don't also mention your uncle in US. Since your undergraduate course is strongly relevant to your graduate studies, it sends a signal that you are focused and have a goal. Just tell a good story and you'll be fine.

Cheers!

@genxros

You solely will not get a denial based on your Gmat score, though it can raise a redflag, but not an outright denial. To me your overall profile wasn't convincing. MBA is not just a graduate program, its very technical, professional, expensive and competitive. Your low score linked with your MBA program might not have you being in good standing in your education in US, and perhaps the VO sensed that. And seriously speaking that score is way to low for an MBA program. You have to be a match to your program of study otherwise, your journey to study wouldn't be releastic. Even if one has a low performance or backloggs in education, that will not cause an outright denial afterall you are going to study to improve yourself, your story must always be realistic and believing, that's why the VO keeps asking 'how will this degree help you' , if you don't need help you will be satisfied with your current qualification.I'll advise you take the test again. Don't border getting a waiver, standardized test are hardly waived for MBA program because its competitive(the VO knows this). And next time when asked what you do try and be more detailed'civil service' is to general' if you work in a ministry you should have stated that specifically or otherwise

@jimtosam.

Its okay present it. Have an explanation for the low score in Verbal (a realistic one). If your Analytical section was good, you can lay emphasis on that also.

@jibebobo,

If you have a realistic and good explanation for going for undergrad at 28,then go for it! Sat/Toefl, is used many a time as a form of yardstick to make comparison with you and your student counterparts in US . And its more necessary for undergraduate because high school over there and secondary school here, have an entirely different curriculum. Remember America is quite proud and selfish, they want the best for their country. So i'll advise you take it. It just cuts all doubt and creates a better impression of you before the Vo.

Cheers!
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part2 by king14: 5:00pm On Jun 20, 2012
@kennix73, attire, like seriously are you going for ceremony, paying too much attention to your dressing, is being over protective, and being over protective simply means you are hiding something, i'll go with a jean and a shirt(collar shirt).

@emekatimsu,
Everybodys case is different, the fact that someone was denied doesn't mean he had a flaw, it could be the VO was not just convinced personally about an issue. I have seen several times here when people post comments about community college and i personally know of peeps that have gotten visa with a community college, i also know 3 friends that resumed spring 2012 into a transfer program(started 300level there) and people say undergraduate visa is difficult. It depends on your case and how you build it, interview is not about your documentation, but about the interview proper,so don't spend time getting documents that wouldn't be scrutinized. What worked for imperiouxx might not necessarily work for you. The fact that a 30 years old was given visa for undergrad doesn't mean that all 30 years old will be given.
Unlike other interviews that gives Liberty,US embassy doesn't, the VO is suppose to make an efficient Decision under a very short time limit. Although there are rules, but personalities are different among this Vos'. So let your friend take time to review is profile and i always say this'anything that doesn't sound convincing to you personally will definitley not sound convincing to the VO as they have a good eye for cons.

Cheers!
