President Goodluck Jonathan replied the disturbing letter sent to him by former President Obasanjo yesterday via a press conference. Very Funny piece.

For over ten days now the polity has been suffused with the verbiage of the letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Goodluck Jonathan. The latter has been under pressure to respond to the issues Obasanjo raised in his letter. And for a while, it seemed the silence from the presidency implied consent, or that the President was too dazed by the vitriolic content of the letter to respond.

But yesterday, the President broke his worrisome silence, when he called a press conference and read out a lengthy reply to the Ota farmer. To be fair to President Jonathan, he tried to clear the fog on some of the issues, but not without throwing some jabs here and there at the former president.

I captured some, yes, some of the details in the response of the President. He started like this:

“His Excellency Chief Olusegun Okikiola Matthew Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

You must have wondered if I did not know what to reply you after you published what has become your latest act of infamy, in the name of a letter titled “Before it is Too Late” which you wrote to me.

Sir, I must confess that your letter took me unawares. As a respected Statesman, I did not expect this unbecoming means of communicating with me, if the essence was not to play to the gallery.

The other confession I must make is that some of the issues and accusations you made against me, were complete news to me. I have long set up committees to investigate the accusations and the reports are already coming in.

Before I deal on the specifics of your letter, permit me to say that, Sir, you must purge yourself of the overflowing messianic complex you have always operated in. Yes, I had said that after God and my parents, you are the next most important person in my life. But that did not mean you are my God or the provider of my oxygen. When goats are sold, the owner releases the rope. But you have chosen to hold on to the rope most tenaciously. That is the problem.

Indeed, we would have ignored you completely after your dear daughter, Dr Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, helped to put most of the issue in the right political perspectives in her own letter to you. But we needed to do this for the records.

I am somewhat disappointed that you are lamenting my performance in government. His Excellency, I am sure we would have moved at a faster pace if the right foundation was laid while you were in charge.

As for the issue of whether or not I will seek re-election in 2015, I am bemused that you are making a huge drama out of this even when you know I am constitutionally permitted to seek re-election. I cannot remember the incidents of my said promise not to seek re-election. But even if I did sir, am I not entitled to change of mind on any issue depending on the currency of information available to me? I do not expect you to be basing your conclusions, at your level, on the so-called fantasy of Body language.

And pray, were we not all witnesses of how you tried to manipulate the National Assembly to offer you the illegal third term chance? Senator Ken Nnamani is still alive.

It is pure mischief powered by uncharitable inclinations to accuse me of “double game’ in the support of gubernatorial candidates in some states. I personally participated in the campaigns of all our candidates. If they lost the elections, I cannot be blamed for that, as I am resolved to distance myself from manipulating electoral outcomes as it used to be in the past… you know what I mean

You made me look like the prince of corruption because of the ancient malaise of crude oil theft. Sir, it did not start with me. I have tried to combat it. There are many committees and task forces in place to check the roguery. Besides, it is even exaggerated under me. Did you not hear that the garrulous CBN governor, who raised the false alarm of missing $49.8 Billion has eaten the humble pie by recanting?

But sir, with all sense of modesty, this does not compare with the degree of sleaze that characterized the PTDF scam between you and your former Vice, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We did not forget. We have reformed the EFCC to be an indiscriminate fierce attack dog, unlike when it was reduced to a weapon against enemies.

As for the crisis in the PDP, we know of supposed elders who have been fraternizing with the renegade governors, the reason they were recalcitrant and irreconciliable. You can only force a horse to the river, you cannot force it to drink water. These renegade governors simply refused to drink water at the bank of reconciliation.

Just as the President finished reading the letter to pressmen, his spokesman, Dr Rueben Abati , looking agitated with creases on his forehead, stepped out to co-ordinate the question and answer session, as over a dozen hands were already up, desirous to fire follow-up questions at Mr President.

Abati was just announcing the modality of the question and answer session, when the loud blast of a heavy duty truck woke me from my deep sleep, as my house is by the roadside. As I sprung up, I was looking for President Jonathan, asking breathlessly, “where is he, where is the president?”, and my children began to ask if I was alright. It was only then I realized I have been dreaming. Hmmmmm.

This is a very wrong move from any point of view.

Assumption: A Toyota Camry in America costs 10,000 dollars for Tokunbo and 18,000 dollars for brand new, I would expect that in Nigeria, the plants will also be selling the brand new at about 18,000 dollars equivalent in Naira. IF I have to buy any of these cars, I will still have to pay for shipping and duty, even at zero duty, there will be no point buying the brand new Camry from America since the landing cost will be more than buying it in Nigeria. So provided the cars are of same quality as what we have out there in developed countries, no one will be importing same. On the other hand even a tokunboh car will cost just as much as the brand new sold in Nigeria.

Secondly, The plants have not even chosen a location to site their plants, no MOU with any companies, They have not even gotten lands or cleared the bushes.

Your claims that banks will give out car loans is supposed to be another reason why many people will rather buy from Nigeria than import.

You also claim it will generate jobs, that is true but that is provided that these companies decide to open plants in Nigeria. It is obvious that they are not ready for the stress here. Remember the licenses issued for refineries by the OBJ govt, those refineries have still not come to light

In all, this is just more slavery and a way of forcing some substandard products on the people because if its same quality, no one except those that pay 10 times for BMW bulletproof cars will like to import their cars.

It is a debate, having the questions before hand does not change anything. What really matters is to true to your words after getting elected. Say for example, you promise electricity all over Nigeria to help manufacturers and businesses to answer a question and people agree with the answer then it means you know what to do. When you are elected, simply do it. Debate is not an examination where you submit and smile and dump your study materials afterwards. In my opinion, if APC has answers to some of our problems, why do we have to suffer till 2015, it's a PDP led GOvt, not a PDP govt. It's not really about who gets the credit if its all about service to the people as they all claim

For the records, GEJ failed to attend the NN24 debates while other candidates attended. GEJ attended the debate by the Nigeria Election Debate Group while the other candidates failed to show up. So if you claim GEJ avoided the NN24 debate, the same can also be said of other candidates (Buhari, Ribadu) who avoided the debate by Nigeria Elections Debate Group.

Some mischief makers argue that one debate is bigger or better than the other. That is a lie from the pit of HELL. There's nothing to suggest such. The NN24 debate which the other candidates attended and so much noise was made about is now EXTINCT. While the Nigeria Election Debate Group is still very active. The committee of 34 eminent persons was not responsible for the annulment. The annulment was already done on June 23 and a decree to that effect already gazetted. In his broadcast, IBB intended that a new election would hold immediately but excluding abiola and tofa and their running mates. He then unbanned ciroma, Yaradua, falae and co who he had earlier banned from contesting for president.

The political class kicked against immediate election and in July 1993, the president set up the committee of 34 to resolve the impasse chaired by the then vice president Aikhomu and included representatives of the Armed forces ruling council, armed forces consultative assembly -David Mark and others, transition ruling council - shonekan and others and the two political parties -sdp and nrc -anenih, kusamotu, ikimi, sule lamido and others.

The committee resolved that the new election could not hold immediately in time for the military to hand over on August 27 1993 but instead fixed the election for early 1994 but with a provision that the transition ruling council headed by shonekan which was earlier set up in January 1993 and had been ruling the country in quasi military-civilian arrangement since then should be expanded and transformed to interim national government effective from August 27 1993. That is the content of the document signed by the committee.

Note that as from January 1993 and as at June 12, all states were being governed by civilian government and there was already the national assembly sitting at federal level with transition ruling council headed by shonekan serving as executive arm all under IBB and Aikhomu. It was the report of the committee that IBB took to the national assembly for ratification in his famous "step aside" address in August 1993.

Bash Ali did not gate crash any event. He met with Mr. President at the National Stadium. The President spoke with him for few minutes called the Minister of Sports who had earlier told Mr. President he was handling the project already. Bash Ali was quick to point at the liar in this case. Mr. President then asked him to see the minister the next day by which time he would have given the minister and the project his presidential blessing. Bash Ali headed to the Ministers office the next day to get feedback. Not to his surprise, he was manhandled by the security agents on the order of the Minister.

Did you not read that the pilot was asked to submit a manifest of his passengers which he could not because he claimed not to know their names?
