fancywendy:
I support the idea, but let it be around october next year so that majority of DV 2014 winners must have been in the state.thanks Happy New Year in Advance.
Good suggestion.

However, Thanksgiving Day holds annually on 4th Thursdays of every November. The 2014 edition will hold on Thursday, 27th November, 2014.

Brief introduction/relevance of Thanksgiving Day in America.
Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables. Thanksgiving Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have.
Thanksgiving Day parades are held in some cities and towns on or around Thanksgiving Day. Some parades or festivities also mark the opening of the Christmas shopping season. Some people have a four-day weekend so it is a popular time for trips and to visit family and friends.

justdre: @obatide pls hw much is d medicalz and d interview fee and for the interview fee where ar we going to change it to dollar is it at d embassy or we can change it anywhere?...and pls sir I need ur email n facebook addy pls we need to talk...
For medicals, each adult pays #12,000 and children pays #7,000 consultation fee, then vaccinations fee, which varies. I strongly advice that you go with your children immunization records, it helps to reduce price.

On the processing fee payment, its advisable to pay in Naira considering the current unstable dollar rate at BM.
Embassy has a stable rate of #165 to $1 (http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/index.html?firstTime=No) till 2016, but if you can get Dollars cheaper than that rate, it will be to your advantage otherwise pay in Naira @ embassy.

We can exchange contacts via Nairaland PM
Hope it helps

Adeboy007: I want OBATIDE suggestion or advice on dis question.... although, i thank those DAT respond to my questions earlier God bless u all (Madu77, Odewenwa, Baba ajala)..... here is it

(I am a SSCE holder)
1. My Waec result is 8 credits without
Mathematics... Can I use it alone? OR
2. Can I use 2 sittings (WAEC 8 Credits without
Maths + GCE 3 Credits with Maths)?
3. with d rate at which d bulletin is moving... as at
feb bulletin is still 8700.. (NA WAOOO but God dey)...
now when probably will I be current cos I hav a
very High CN.. which is (165** (God is involve) I
hope d Visa will not be finish before it get to
mine?.... cos i can see d success rate and am
happy and also i key to there success... PLS REPLY
me and give me lots of hope plssss.... @ OBATIDE...
MY main concern is DAT I don't want to divert d CO attention towards my score (B3 in Maths, I.e my second result)... cos am not good in math ooo and no be me write am.

I concord with previous answers from the trio of Madu77, Odewenwa & Baba ajala, they are saying the same thing but from different point of view and scneario.
In addition, lets check the rule at http://travel.state.gov/pdf/DV_2014_Instructions.pdf, it says and I quote
'To enter the DV program, you must meet either the education or work experience requirement of the
DV program: you must have either a high school education or its equivalent, defined as successful
completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education
;'

Relevance of Subjects in this high school education can be explained further with this post below(take note of Bolded):
oyidiyaagbayi: I enrolled in a North Carolina community college. I don't have my green card bc I paid for it in October . They used the one resident in my visa for that and told me to bring my green card to replace it bc after one year my visa will expire. Then I applied for financial aid and it was approved. Another thing is that I only presented my waec result bc if I had given them my degree result I will not have qualified. This happened to a Nigerian student that I met here b4 they ratified it. I have about 3600 for one year. u also have refunds after the semester. It is on a yearly basis. u can also apply for scholarship when u finish your grants. study hard for your accuplacement test so that u don't have to do a lot of mathematics and readings. meanwhile am not a bro am a sis. good luck
oyidiyaagbayi: accuplacement test is a test to know your level of knowledge in order to know where to place you academically after your high school. It's made up of English and mathematics.
In view of the above, I will advice you go with both results.

Adeboy007: MY main concern is DAT I don't want to divert d CO attention towards my score (B3 in Maths, I.e my second result)... cos am not good in math ooo and no be me write am.
They understand some facts beyond what you can immagine, before they ask you any question, they pcyche you first, your response will determine the next question (I will explain more on this if you can tell us the year of the said exam and your marrital status)
As I re-echoed in my testimony about documentations, pls bother less about the CN for now, God who has make u selected will complete the Job, the fiscal year will end by Sept. 2014, which implies you still have 9 good months, dont be caught unaware if bulletin is increasing in Geometric rate as from next year and I bet people will come here to say that bulletin is too fast very soon. So, its an opportunity you have now to get your documents and enough money for process, Flight, other Logistics and expenditure before you secure Job in the state.
Hope it helps as im Wishing you all the best

Godsspeed: Pls I think d members of dis forum will hav more idea about dis: my CN is 14**, so I should have been current den? Or do the alphabets in our CN affect d time frame for interviews? Mine is 2014OC.... But I discovered that many of the people that have gotten their 2NL are: 2014AF.... Pls who knows the answer to my questions, or atleast have an idea? Thanks for your response!
sir, the Alphabets in the code number signifies the region where the beneficiary come from, eg. Africans are denoted with 2014AF....
Asia are 2014AS......, So I think with your 2014OC....., you are from oceania?
if yes, information from bulletin site @ http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_6228.html, says you are not current yet.

The making of our America Project:
It all started on October 23, 2012 when the four of us in the family as of then, entered for the lottery.
I checked mine on May 1, 2013 and was not selected, and then on May 4th, I checked my lovely First Lady’s status and discovered we have been selected for further processing.
At this point, we had no idea of the processes; hence, I started searching Google for resources and later found NAIRALAND 2013 & 2014 threads, which signified the new era.
Twice in that Month of May, I mailed KCC, requesting for additional information and medium of submission of our documents, they replied that both hard and soft copy are acceptable (detail posted sometime ago in one of my responses)
On June 4, 2013, we finally sent our forms via e-mail to kccdv@state.gov (note that we updated twice after this). We were current in November’s bulletin for interview on December 23, 2013 for 7am.
We received our 2nd NL on October 18, a day after birth of our new baby-Princess. We notified the embassy and invited them for naming, to my greatest surprise, replies received in both my mail and VO’s thread were word for words, then the waiting game continues as I always pray for easiest interview which came to pass on the 23rd.

Documentations:
I practiced what I always advice on the thread, we secured all documents before October, except for the new baby that was done after her birth in that month. Medicals and Police Certificate (#2500) were done on December 12th, this enable us to relax a bit.

The ‘D’ Day.
We lodged in a 20minutes drive location close to the embassy, got to the embassy around 5:40am.
Did all necessary security check as you are all aware of, paid the total sum of #272,500.00 being processing fee.
Window 17 called for documentations, to my surprise, the woman seeing us for the first time asked a familiar question/statement which Looks like those people are spy on NL (can’t ascertain though,so don’t quote me)
Then around 9am, the white Lady called us at window 14 for the real thing
CO: Good morning ma’am
We: Good morning and how was your night?
Co: very ….., thank you
We: Merry Xmas and she responded as well
Then Finger prints for both of us.
CO: raise your right hand and …………(swearing)
We: we do
After this, I lifted my first son (whose name is of one of America president’s name, to say Good morning to her) she called his name, and the laughing began, then the second son did the same and I was joking with her that, the new baby want to say Hi too, then laugh again.
CO: turned to my wife and asked, what’s your highest qualification?
My first Lady: AAAAAAA
CO: when did u finished
My first Lady: AAAAAAA
CO: She’s typing and was explaining that she think my wifey does not performed to her best in her first result, that’s why she submitted the second one
My first Lady: Yes
Me: I said ‘As if you know’ and she laughs again.
While I was trying to carry my children, who are playing around, she said your VISA is approved smiling and the rest of pick up infos. & we say thank you and God bless America
That’s it oooooooooooooooooooo, it was just like a chat

Till now, we are still thanking GOD

nifty: you are supposed to get $5600 prolly that the minimum you need in the community college you should have asked to max out your financial aid for the year and then they wld send you a refund check to ur home you can spend on anything but prolly you tell them you want to spend it on books
oyidiyaagbayi: I will be given another one in the next year.

My Diary straight!
Travel / Re: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by Obatide(m): 8:59pm On Dec 11, 2013
mcro: Honestly, I don’t know where to start. Having played the lottery thing as a single for about 3 times without success, I was no longer motivated to try it. But my wife was unrelenting. She nagged and cajoled and entreated me and I finally capitulated but with a proviso: she must foot the bills, my transport fares inclusive. Off we went on circa Oct 28, 2012, just a few days to the deadline of the application. I then forgot all about it.
On May 1, my wife called me to inform me that I have won the visa lottery for 2014. It was like a dream. I checked by myself and confirmed it. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Travelling abroad to further my education has always been my desire, but the financial rigours involved coupled with the inherent uncertainty in granting of the visa were most discouraging. And here is an opportunity, not only to study but also to live and raise a family, God is indeed the Lord that answereth by fire. May the Lord continue to bless our women. I owe the visas to my wife.
To cut the long story short, we set out by 6:30 am to meet an appointment for 10am. Traffic wasn’t that terrible and we still had time to settle down despite having hitches about locating the car park.
We were ushered in by 9:30 am. All the security checks were observed and the payment was made. I witnessed @dahunsiolajide predicament of not having enough dollar to make his payment and I was happy when a dude bailed him out.
Window 16 used to be a dreaded window for the DV 2013 Winners with a much dreaded white woman giving people the scare of their lives with more denials than all other COs combined. But the window is now an oasis and was occupied by an elderly white man who was ‘dishing out’ the visas like ‘pure water’. May God bless him.
By the powers of prayer, after a protracted wait our number finally bleeped at Window 16. Oath-taking and fingerprinting done, the interview itself was less than 2 minutes. Here we go.
co: (looking at our baby) how old is she?
Me: sorry, it’s a he not a she.
co: (looking at the baby’s form in his hand) oh sorry, I didn’t see the second name. so how old is he?
we: three months and twenty days.
Co: what is ur highest level of education.
Me: MSc in xxxxxxx.
Co: (looking at my form in his hands) in xxxxxx yyyyyyy University.
Me: yes and that was where I had my first degree too.
Co: for how long have u known your wife?
Me: for nine years.
Co: when did you propose marriage to her.
Me: last year January during her birthday.
Co: why did it take u dt long?
Me: we were both undergraduate when we first met. It was when I was when I started working we now thought of marriage.
(All the while, he was holding two sheets of paper and now stretching them forth)
Co: ok. You will go to this address….. (for my mind I thought he wanted to say ‘to continue the interview’)
Co: (continue) there, you will pick your visas which will be ready by next week.
(If he had not added that somebody could collect the visa on our behalf I would have assumed I did not hear him well).
Co: congratulations and welcome to America.
We: thank you and God bless you.
My wife and my baby were even by my side throughout the interview. The Co did not tell her to go and sit down in order to interview me alone.
LESSON LEARNT.
1. It is not of him that wills, but of God that shows mercy. Having seen what many are doing to travel abroad by all means and having considered that I never made any spirited effort to consider travelling seriously despite that being my desire, then I have come to the conclusion that only what He wills matter, not my will.
2. By patience possess your soul. I was almost worry when I did not see my 2nl having sent my forms since early June and the receipt acknowledge on June 11. I was current in October but did not receive my 2nl until 3rd week of Oct. So to those waiting for 2nl, it will come. No one on DV 2013 thread was not called for his interview. Urs will not be an exception.
3. Preparation. Opportunity always favours the man who is prepared. Those waiting for their interview should start by reading this thread from the beginning. I started to read DV 2013 when it was around 500 posts. But I later had to go back to the beginning. I regretted I didn’t start that earlier. At least DHL wouldn’t have ‘chopped’ my money. So please if you still have the time, read some of the posts in DV 2013 thread too. You will be surprised at the guru that lies within you.
4. Prayer. The efficacy of prayer cannot be overemphasized. If there was one thing that made my interview very simple, I believed it was prayer. Since I got to know I won in May, I have set aside a day in the week to fast and pray for favour and success in the interview. Despite my deep and intense preparation for academic questions across all levels and marital-based interview, God took all the glory; no question from my preparation was asked.
Finally never stop believing. Your own miracle is on the way.
My special appreciation goes to Obatide, Madu77, G2Glory, kevwe flex, seubis, femishow, ItyRoyal and all others that have been contributing on this thread. May you never lose your own reward.
Also of the DV 2013 thread, my appreciation goes to Temmytanny, Adesojiaderemi, Jejelady, Roodboy, Gentiger, Genlion, Brightmon, Godhelpmeoooo, Leripa, obamaobama, Bussyme, Kemzone 2003, and a host of others too numerous to mention, you guys are the bomb. You won the visa for me a long time ago. May God continue to bless you in the White man’s land.
Addendum:
I am really sorry for this long epistle, I cannot just keep the joy to myself anymore. For as many that are yet to go for their interview, you will experience this joy that fills my heart and soul. Thank you and God bless.

Who else can do this, if not GOD Almighty?
Congratulation my brother, God will perfect the next stage.

Thanking God for successful interviews thus far as I say a big congratulations to @bukiemma, @mcro, @dahunsiolajide and other guests, God will perfect the rest.
@Darmhe, how far about your package? hope those things you forget at interview are stapled along with your brown envelope?
@ItyRoyal, thanks so much for the piece.
@All, I want to re-echo that the embassy accept both denominations of Naira and Dollar for processing fee, their exchange rate is 165 Naira to $1, the choice is yours if you can get dollars cheaper, otherwise, $330 = 54,500 Naira.
also @All, expecially people who are eagerly waiting to be current, since no winner can influence it, then put your mind at rest to prepare your documents and gather more money, remember you have maximum of 6months to travel after you visa has been printed.
Note that thinking of depending on family memeber/Host over there might not work 100%, so the funds you travel with, will give you certain freedom , so dont give yourself high BP over slow pase of bulletin, Its my prayer that God will meet all our finacial needs to sustain our successes.

I came across these tips for succesful interview and feel it could help some of us,
kindly discuss to have it edited, addition or subtraction

Tips for interview
1. Wear formal clothes as if for a formal business meeting. The interviewing officer will always be an American (the interpreter if required may be local). If possible the man should wear a tie. Americans always appreciate formal attire, so they will not find you over-dressed if you wear a tie.
2. Arrive early. You don't want to miss your interview just because you got stuck in traffic.
3. Do not get nervous. Be confident. You will be more confident if you have prepared thoroughly. Smile when you meet the visa officer for the first time. Don't show signs of nervousness such as flickering of eyes, trembling of fingers as that could go against you. Look into the eyes of the officer while speaking.
4. Both candidates should greet the officer with a smile and a "good morning", as soon as you enter the interview booth.
5. Both candidates should have a confident posture and look at the interviewing officer straight in the eyes throughout the interview.
6. Be confident in your answers, whatever you say. Make short, clear, to-the-point replies, in a loud and clear voice. Do not tell anything that is irrelevant or not asked. By mistake, you may give some unnecessary information that may lead to your rejection.
7. Be polite, do not argue and do not ask unnecessary or unrelated questions. Do not unnecessarily elaborate your responses as this may not work in your favor.
8. Demonstrate respect in your language even if you don't feel this is being reciprocated.
9. Often times you might not understand what the interviewing officer is saying because of his/her American accent and/or the microphone system. If you do not understand one of their sentences do not feel afraid to say, 'beg your pardon; I did not understand you.' If he/she repeats the question and you still do not understand, that is not a problem, do not panic. Calmly and confidently say, sorry sir/madam. I still did not understand you. Could you kindly repeat what you said?
10. If you know English, it is preferable to have the interview in the English so that you and consular officer can understand the each other. Interpreters mess up sometimes.

Wishing everybody due for interview all the best

We thank GOD for the streams of Testimonies in the first week of this December, Ranging from finacial provisions for those who did their medicals, police reports, flight bookings & so on, Journey mercies to People who travelled down to Lagos and out of the Country, most expecially the number of VISAS granted, We say thank you Sir.
As we commence 2nd week of December, we pray for double of that favour, mercy and successes as @bukiemma and others attend interview this week.
On behalf of my Family, I wish everybody all round success and congrats ahead to @bukiemma

janut:

I was able to pay my immigrant fee at the USCIS website without any issues. You don't need to download any browser and there was no IP address issues, just follow the steps carefully.
Congratulations, im so happy for you, it might have been resolved now.
But there were challenges at that time as illustrated by @XYZ, @G2gory and some other members.

onye baresi: @Obatide
Please I am very sorry for that. I really appreciate all your contribution on this forum but don't u think the Newspaper publication will be going too far?
Sorry for the mix-up, I have Edited the post.
I think the error was on your certificate, but since its on application, with God's favour, affidavit is not even necessary.
Thanks

onye baresi: @Obatide/ Visa officer
Thank you very much for your response. I have my project, receipts& course forms but I will try to get the 'To Whom it May Concern'.
Also for the issue of omission of a letter from my first name in the initial application, do I need to get a sworn affidavit to cover it, as I used my correct names in the form to KCC. Eg instead of Baresi, I have Barsi.
You make me laugh with bolded word.
Pls, Obatide is not Visa Officer, im just someone like you, who is looking forward to a successful interview very soon by GOD's Grace, but devoted extral time to know more about the process, bridging the Gap and nolify forms of exploitations and undue advantage that 'people' take on DV winners.
For the issue of omission of a letter from your name, be ready to convince the CO that it was an honest Error, you should be good to go, since its only on the application not on your Certificate, Affidavit is not necessary.
Once again, I believe we are rubbing mind here and im learning too, not Visa officer
Hope it helps more?

onye baresi: Forumites, I filled MBA as my highest qualification in the form I sent to Kcc because I have already defended my project last year but was waiting for the final clearance and my cert b/4 the ASUU strike, now I don't have anything to defend my claim. Please house hope this will not affect my chances?

'To whom' is allowed if you have it handy.

VisaOfficer:

Greetings and congratulations!

1. Yes, a "To whom it may concern" note will be fine. In fact, we just had a DV refresher training for the officers and reminded them of the strike, so now they all know that "To whom it may concern" letters are available.

Good luck - see you soon!
https://www.nairaland.com/1359935/u.s-consular-officer-ask-me/52#19114790

but incase you dont have a "To whom it may concern", Documents like Identity card, school receipts, course registration form, Library card, copy of signed binded project or any other documents you find relevant will help to proof your claim.
Hope it helps?

seyioreaje: Good day people,i just check my result and i won.my case no is 2014AF0000016* and this is december, please can still send my package to kcc.I don't know if my case number is high or low.2 when i enter for dv i enter as married because we did only engagement and we have two kids.My question is should i go to registry now or will it spoil my chance. Please my people i need your reply.

seyioreaje: Is my CN high or low,2014AF0000016*? If i sent my package before 15 of december when will my date of interview be?
Congratulations Bro and welcome to the house.
on a personal opinion, Its never Late to Return your forms to KCC, so dont rush, if you can read through past posts, it will help you greatly.
The fastest and cheapest way of doing it is to send via e-mail.
the process:
Visit www.dvselectee.state.gov to read the instructions and dowload the two form required. The forms are also here http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html.
fill those forms on your computer and print to sign DSP 122 & part 1 of DS 230.(pls follow instruction there in strictly, if you are confused, u may post your question here, people will respond) write your Case number on each page of the forms, affix 2by2 white background pasport where applicable then scan and send to KCCDV@STATE.GOV
After few weeks, send e-mail to kcc, quote your CN,DofB and FULL NAME to enqire about your form/confirmation of it, after which you check https://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ESC/ where your 2nd NL will be for date and schedule of interview.
pls ensure you have valid e-mail to communicate with them

On question 2, I will give a general opinion which is if you are truthful, you stand a better chance if you go to Registry now to have a civil document or be legally binded. But you must be able to convince the CO that the relationship is geniue with photo evidences

It is that simple, but pls read and understand every statement there before filling to avoid errors
Whishing you all the best as I hope it helps?

Good day fellow members of this Great forum, May God crown all our efforts with success.
Thank God for all the success stories we have been hearing, May His name only be praised and I pray that GOD will favour the rest of us.
About the issue of Sharing cantacts, I so much like it but we should not Forget the primary purpose of locating this forum, which I think to many, is: to get information which will aid our successful interview whilst Running away from Agents.
EVERY BODY COULD REMEMBER his/her FIRST EVER POST/READING ON NAIRALAND as evidence of my claim.
In view of this, I suggest we present issues here for different opinion and suggestions (There is safety in multitude of cancel) then PM any member you wished to have personal chat with, this will make the thread grow the more and serves as Reference to future members.
However as G2glory points, We should look beyond issues of interview and discuss FLIGHT BOOKING, CARRER IN USA, ACCOMODATION, HOW TO SETTLE IN QUICKLY and so on, to make the forum more lively

on this below, im in for Good
ItyRoyal:
@buklan4real@yah....You ladies are wonderful....i am advocating that all the ladies in the house be given a very special treat at a day we'll all agree if all the suggestions scale thru....
If we can do PART 1, in 9ja now then we plan ahead of 2014 Thanksgiving day in USA and continue from there.
may I chip in this; those who have secure their VISA, pls migrate on time so as to settle down fast in other to be our secondary hosts grin grin grin
Any more suggestions?
