@Lisadem and @Pelumee, Thanks a lot fam! I got the point and I do appreciate. I guess I need to feel a sponsor's name in the proof of financial sustainability form by schools?

Yes Sir....u do need to fill a name.

Feexo! The one wey dey BBA. Lol.
Your I-20 will only state 'family fund' so the VO won't know which account you sent to the school. So no shaking. Hope this helps...

You need to confirm with the school....if your I-20 carries family funds.....its fine...but if they specify names on your I-20 you will have to show the VO the same statement.
For example my I-20 carries "Sponsor" and beneath were it indicates health insurance; it specifies my sponsors name(my dad).....
Point is b sure.

De Tus: Well, America is a native English speaking country. So going to the US for studies will definitely improve her English more and will impact this knowledge on Nigerian students when she returns home. Second, cultural diversification is another reason. Studying abroad will enable her to understand people with different culture and background which is absolutely important. In a nutshell, her academic experience is needed more in Nigeria. The government is now restructuring the academic system so as to make it great. I think if she can say this, the visa is hers.

I think dis is brilliant.
[quote author=poopppyLiillyy]

I think you should believe in yourself......what DeTus wrote is brilliant and can be useful.
Quitting is not an option for success.

All the best

De Tus: Those who love me should pray for me. My interview is fast-approaching. My chances remain 50-50. Though I have prepared well.

Dont worry..it will be yours. Remain positive and do not lose faith..our joy will be full and we all will share our success story.

mr swagger:

Are u sure of this? Because when I checked the US consulate website, when filling your DS 160 form you will be asked to upload an acceptable passport photograph with the right size.

Or are we to take the passport photograph and then scan and upload it on the DS 160 online form. Or do they accept scanned images? Pls shed more light on this.

you are to take the passport photograph in hard copy to the embassy on the day of your interview....sure someone will confirm this again

wabi_wabi_91: Hello everyone.

I've read what has been posted on this thread from page 1 in preparation for my own visa interview. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to this thread- its awfully nice of you to help others like this.

I've been admitted to Purdue University to study Industrial Engineering (Bachelors) this fall and I have filled my DS-160 form and scheduled a visa interview. I live in Lagos, but unfortunately there were no dates available- I was astonished by this fact. I went ahead to book an appointment in Abuja for the 13th of June, but going all the way will be rather expensive. I plan on canceling the Abuja appointment and rescheduling an appointment in Lagos if dates become available.

A few pages back someone suggested that a sort of Lagos Visa Appointment Date Notification Service be started on the thread. I'd like to voice my support for this idea. If anyone notices that dates become available in Lagos, please email me on aabiola"at"purdue"dot"edu.

Thanks a bunch. Good luck to all.

Hello Wabi......there were dates early this morning in lagos for 17th June - 20th June....you can check again...All the best

just wondering if anybody has had problems scheduling dates. Was thinking we could form a chain...like when you are online and you find out that the dates are highlighted; you beep someone and that person beeps another.......and the chain continues..till we are all booked....God granting our visa's we can form a chain to schedule flights....ok #justteasing

.....so am hoping someone will reply to this...**winks**

stabbo:

Thanks for the GRE link francis, my interview on May 8 went thus:

V.O: Gd afternoon, Me; Gd afternoon...I handed her my documents

V.O: Why are you going to the US?
Me: To study for my masters
V.O: What school?
Me: Academy of art university

V.O: Whats your course?
Me: MFA in Web design and new media (V.O then checks my i-20 again, the course name on my i-20 is "Web page, digital multimedia and inform",but the course name at the school and on my acceptance letter is actually "Web design and new media". She tries to confirm the name of my course and I explain to her telling her the actual name of my course which I was accepted for. She then says ok and continues typing on her computer.)

V.O: How long do you intend staying in the US?
Me: I intend staying for 2 years (On my i-20 it says 4 years but Im sure I will complete my requirements within 2 years and I dont intend staying for longer)

V.O: When are you resuming classes? I told her precisely when (At this point she was putting the green pick up ticket in my passport, then she continues on her computer)

V.O: Whos paying for your trip?
Me: My Mom

V.O: What does she do?
Me: She imports heavy duty vehicle parts and computer accessories from the UK)...She types on her computer briefly

V.O: What have you been doing since you graduated?
Me: I have been working (I briefed her on my work history precisely since I graduated in 2010)

V.O: How much do you earn monthly?
Me: 150k basic plus add ons amounting to about 190k (she then continues her typing for a bit and then says, "Im sorry but unfortunately I cannot grant you a visa at this time, Im very confused as I thought she was about to approve me and I then walk away dejected).

The interview was quite brief and I answered her questions as accurately and sincerely as I could, she didnt ask to see any documents and I got the feeling she wanted to approve my visa from her first impression. Please explain where I could've gone wrong and recommend correction tips for my next interview. Thanks a million.

Would like to know if your present job description is in anyway related to the course you were admitted for. Just thinking that could have been an issue since you briefed her about your work history. Am sure the next time you'll go, you wont be denied. We will all share our success stories soon by God's Grace.

I got admission to Texas A&M International for MS Information System. Will be getting my I-20 in a couple of days, after which i'll proceed for the interview. I look forward to sharing my success story soon.
