Politics / Re: FEC Orders NNPC To Sell Crude Oil To Dangote, Other Refineries In Naira by Onovo3: 7:29pm On Jul 29
seunmsg:

I doubt if NNPC has 450,000 barrels that they can give to Dangote daily. We barely produce about 1.7 million barrels daily now. By the time IOCs take their share, NNPP will be struggling to have enough to give to those they have collected money from.

We produce 1.2 million barrels, by the time cost is taken out we have 1million barrels left. This remaining amount is then shared between the federal government (FG) and the IOC. This shared around 60% for FG and 40% for the IOC under production sharing contract. So Technically NNPC is left with 600K barrels. Of this 600k, Major chunk of it is used to pay/service debts, as most loans collected by the FG is tied to forward sales of crude oil. So technically what NNPCL has at the end of the day is around 300k barrels per day, which is not even enough to meet Dangote's demand. Lets not forget that the FG also needs to earns FOREX from this 300k barrels. So Technically, Nigeria does not have crude anywhere to give Dangote. That is the bitter truth.

I think this is hot air.

No foreign company or group of companies anywhere in the world will invest $27 billion dollars in any single project in Nigeria, let alone a port in Warri.

$27 billion! Or do they mean $2.7 billion. The new port in Lekki cost less than $4 billion. Dangote 's unprecedented refinery costs less than $20 billion.

Onne which can't be that far from Warri is not even operating at full capacity. There' are also Lekki and Apapa ports.

Do people think investors won't look at the competition. They'lll just throw $27 billion into a project. Just like that.

Is beyond a port. Warri is the headquarter of oil and gas in Nigeria. Its locations too strategic to be ignored. Recalled President GEJ was there in 2014 to commission the Gas City project worth $20bn. This project was abandoned by president Buhari. This was what would have created a lot of jobs for Nigerians. Bottom line is, you can't really neglect Warri. As its significance to Nigerian economy is so monumental

So, what wrong with that ? If there are no jobs in the city and there is land , what stops you going into farming since there is land in the states?: Must everyone be in Lagos to sell gala when there is land to farm in the states?

Abi oh ! People wants to do POS, sell gala, ride Keke. Nobody wants to farm. This is the problem

I run farming in a large commercial scale. Besides I am educated/graduated in/from one of world renowned university and have my blossoming career which is running concurrently.

I am a farmer fyi. I produce egg, chicken, fish, pepper, garri, pineapple, banana ugu, banga, plantain, etc. I produce in commercial quantities. Over 90% of my consumption is from my farm.. The 10% I buy from market is for things like salt, maggi, other spice, and occasionally indomie for the kids.

Again, I ask you to show me any serious country that's developed by embracing subsistence farming.
Graduates ride keke and do POS. Those graduates should be employed carrying out the industrialisation and research you mentioned.
But I'm surprised someone is saying keke and POS contribute nothing to the economy nor feed the population. You're narrow-minded sir

India and China were largely/farmers in the in the 60's as these countries began to industrialise there was some shift from been just subsistence farmers to industries. Thus, while the farmers proportion reduced but industries increased. Even at that, these countries still have around 50% of its population involved in farming today, despite their industrial power, you can fact check me on this. You guys are funny, you expect Tinubu to do the farming for you.

The countries you are referring to do you have their level of industrialisation and research in to mechanised farming? Majority of our youths ride keke, do POS, with women have small rickety provision stalls. Things that contributes nothing to the economy or feeding the population

Twy:

You have to understand that you are discussing with people who are not open minded, hence the issue of Lagos this and that. The issue of Apapa and Tin can is largely a federal government issue, state do not directly get revenue from ports, it is Customs and FIRS and other federal bodies. Secondly, there is a port in Warri, which has a growing oil and gas activity. What is needed right now in that axis is infrastructural development which can be linked to the existing port or then a new port. People like to talk about industrial development, but it can work if there is an existing market around the port, an export oriented industrial project but if not, the infrastuture needs to be there including rail network.. The strength of the ports in Lagos has little to do with the state government but because Lagos is seen as a strategic market for industries to sell goods and also easy access to imported raw materials for those industries, developing a new commercial zone will need infrastuctural development.

It is the the industries/commercial activities of a city that makes a port viable. Rather it is the port that makes a city viable or commercial/industrial activities. This is what creates the commercial/industrial activities in Lagos.

Lagos port monopoly at play here...this is the bad side of it.

Decentralise ports operations in the country, complete Akwaibom deep sea port and watch Lagos noise reduce.

In my view, this project if actually completed will compliment Lagos, by creating another industrial hub and modern city around Warri Environs. It will help in relieving congestion and job opportunities for our people. Beside in 2014 President Jonathan in 2014, went there to commission the Gas Revolutionary and Industrial Park. Warri, Port Harcourt and Uyo are in Strategic location that makes them appealing for massive industrial project, this is supported by the abundant amount of oil and gas in their environs.

I don't think anyone has to fear that the development of these areas would mean Lagos would collapse, rather they are suppose to work in synergy with Lagos. This is why the Coastal highway initiated by President Tinubu linking these cities is a welcome development,

Politics / $27bn Warri-Escravos Seaport Complex May Loose Out Due To FG Negligence by Onovo3: 8:11am On Jun 13
The lead promoter of the Escravos Seaport Industrial Complex project in Delta State, Mercury Maritime Concession Company, has said that Nigeria may lose $27.29bn investment in the project by the end of June.

The Chairman of MMCC, Rear Admiral Andrew Okoja (rtd), disclosed, in a statement on Tuesday, that this was due to the prolonged delay by both the Federal and Delta State Governments to give final approval for the project’s take-off. Okoja added that investors were ready to commit funds for the commencement of the project. Recall that EDIB International of Hong Kong had early this year expressed its willingness to invest $27.29bn to develop the ESIC project, whose deep seaport would be located in Escravos (Gbaramatu Island/Omadino) Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The project would be carried out through a joint venture partnership with a Nigerian firm, MMCC. The development of the ESIC project, which commenced in 2019, aims to develop 31,000 hectares of land in Delta State into a deep seaport, crude oil refinery, gas complex, independent power plant, airport, and nature park among others. Okoja pointed out that the slow pace at which the Federal and Delta State Governments were providing necessary approvals could result in Nigeria missing out on creating job opportunities for its citizens.

“This is apart from boosting the nation’s economy from its present distress state,” he said. However, he stated that the project promised to massively open up Delta State and seven other states, including FCT, to international investment in trade, commerce, and industry. “ESIC would transform the Delta State economy and those of ESIC beneficiary states from a rural-driven economy with sprinklings of urban development to a metropolis-driven economy of international dimension,” he added.

According to Okoja, the ESIC is a non-solicited public-private partnership-driven project regulated by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission Laws of the Federal Government of Nigeria. “It is modelled after the Lekki Deep Seaport/Free Trade Zone to serve the marine/economic interests of the Niger Delta, eastern and some northern states of the country specifically to solve the perennial port congestion problems in Nigeria,” he elucidated. He further noted that the ESIC project would complement the ongoing Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. Okoja stated that the protection sought was a 50-year renewable concession lease, (which must be extended to 99 years for all other infrastructure and land) to build, own, operate, and transfer the ESIC deep seaport free trade zone project, for which the Federal Government’s provisional approval was granted to MMCC in November 2020.

“It is instructive to note that by this deal, the ESIC ownership of the deep seaport would revert to FG at the expiration of the renewable 50-year concession. “Secondly, it is also consequent upon the May 2022 Delta State Government expression of willingness to lease 31,000 hectares of land located at Escravos and Omadino to MMCC to host the entire ESIC project,” he explained.

He maintained that the project would incorporate the development of road, rail, and marine connectivity approaches to the hinterland destinations to optimise cargo flow. The retired naval officer stated that what EDIB International Limited was seeking as the development partner and financier of ESIC project was the Presidency’s reconfirmation of erstwhile approval of ESIC project by its previous administration, “confirmation of all privileges of FTZ and capital repatriation of ESIC project, as well an approved letter of comfort to MMCC to enable the financier to release ESIC project funds”.

“We advise the Federal and Delta State Governments to take advantage of these three-week grace period before the expiration of this deadline or else the funds set aside for ESIC would be diverted to other needy African nations,” Okoja pleaded.

Politics / NDDC Presents N1.911tn 2024 Budget To Senate For Niger Delta Development by Onovo3: 12:28pm On Jun 11
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has proposed a total sum of N1.911 trillion as its 2024 aggregate expenditure.

Managing Director of the Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, declared this on Monday during the presentation of the NDDC budget estimates for 2024 tagged ‘Budget of Renewed Hope Agenda’, before the Senate Committee on NDDC chaired by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong.

Ogbuku pegged the proposed revenue brought forward at N12 billion. The arrears owed by the Federal Government and Recoveries by Federal Government agencies stands at 170 billion naira.

In a further breakdown, legacy projects funded through borrowings is pegged at N1 trillion. According to the proposal, the Federal Government will contribute N324.8 billion, the Ecological Fund, N25 billion, while Oil Companies Contributions will contribute N375billion. He further explained that the Commission is investing massively in the area of infrastructure such as the ‘Operation Light Up Niger Delta Region’ and the construction of multipurpose emergency shelter with a capacity of 1000 accommodations, designed to serve as a refuge during flood emergencies.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Ekpenyong warned against late submission of the budget of the NDDC, noting that the commission must transmit its 2025 Budget early to meet January to December Budget Cycle.

According to him, the 2024 budget must consolidate on already existing projects.

PDP is a democratic part, and so whoever win the primaries becomes the flagbearer of the party. Just like every other Nigerian, Obi is free to buy his presidential form either from PDP or APC. In 2027 PDP form would be 100M while APC would be 200M. The choice before Obi is to buy either of the form and participate in he primaries.
