I presently work in a production firm as a production manager, but I hope to be self-employed in the nearest future. I think one of the brightest area I consider for self-employment is IT. But I consider myself a neophyte in the IT world. Please how can I start a career in IT. what are the major areas of focus? what are the areas of competencies. I really want to go into IT but I don't know where to start. Do I start learning programmes? which ones? which certifications are important for me? what areas of IT can I specialize? etc etc. Please help. I call on Ajanlekoko and co to help me out. Thanks and God bless |

Beaf:Beaf, why do you like using so much filthy and insulting words? Please stop being uncultured. I have been observing your posts and comments and I must say that many atimes, your arguments are baseless, weak and dumb. No wonder, you use so much abusive language to cover up for your unintelligent comments. Learn to be objective and not trickish. Cheers |

I meant to say I am a top graduate, but I have met challenges that I had to resort to help. And what has kept me going in my career is my attitude and my zeal for excellence and not my high CGPA. |

SEFAGO:While I agree with SEFAGO on some of his points (I have stated my position earlier), I think he has gone to the extreme. I have met some not-so-intelligent 2.2 guys but I have also met very intelligent 2.2 and even 3rd class graduates. While I believe that on the average, 2.1 and 1st class guys are better than their 2.2 guys, there is absolutely no limit for anybody, irrespective of his class of degree, to reach his/her heights wrt career achievement. It all depends on how you motivate yourself. I am a top students, but I have met challenges that I had to result to help. THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN CAREER SUCCESS IS ATTITUDE AND NOT PAST ACHIEVEMENT OR CLASS OF DEGREE. My attitude has kept me going, not my high CGPA. I believe that 2.2 guys can be as relevant as THEY CHOOSE TO BE. SEFAGO:While I agree with SEFAGO on some of his points (I have stated my position earlier), I think he has gone to the extreme. I have followed this argument between davidylan vs AjanleKoko and oyb, with the regular comical interjection of 'Junior' coogar. I think I have been pushed to say my own view. I think the class system in universities was designed to distinguish students based on intelligence, diligence, hardwork, disciplinee AND consistency. That is why your CGPA starts counting on your first year. During this period of four or five years, students generally have the opportunity to work harder and improve their GPA before graduation. Thus, your class gives a overall/cumulative view of your academic strength in your chosen course of study. Ideally, it will therefore be unreasonable to say a 2.2 graduate is better or even equal to a 2.1 or first class graduate. Both by common sense and reality, 2.2 graduates perform lower than their higher grade counterparts. But of course, there will always be exceptions where 2.2 graduates have performed beyond exceptions. But one can not generalize on such exceptions and make baseless conclusions that 2.2 graduates are equal to 2.1 or 1.1 graduates. This is the point at which I differ with AjanleKoko. ![]() From what I have read in this thread and other threads dedicated to such class of gradates, 2.2 peeps usually want to live and believe in that illusion that they are (NOT can be) better than their 2.1 or 1.1 graduates to pysch them up psychologically. Sometimes it is easier to live in an illusion to make yourself feel good. But I have always advocated that 2.2 or lower class graduates should face the reality. The reality is that based on their OVERALL academic performance, they are not as good as their 2.1 counterparts but they CAN STILL BE BETTER if they work on themselves and develop themselves. Stop living in falsehood about how one isolated 2.2 peep did better than all other 2.1 or 1.1 peeps. To me, that's just childish mental psych up and consolation. It has its root from inferiority complex. I wish all 2.2 and third class peeps success. ![]() ![]() |

AjanleKoko:Those phrases are so true. I think I need to show more understanding and empathy (not sympathy) to those people. Thanks for your reply. I was only looking at it from my skewed frame of reference. Thanks for your maturity |

I think the numerous threads on this issue of 2.2 or third class or even pass graduates boils down to self-pity and inferiority complex. It is just a way of consoling and encouraging yourselves in a pathetic way. Why waste all your energy on needless threads on how 2.2/HND graduates are better than their higher grade graduates. Please stop wallowing in low self esteem and self-pity and face the reality. And the reality is that as a 2.2/third class/pass/HND graduate, things ain't going to be easy for you in the job market. But work on yourself, develop yourself, change your way of thinking (from self-pity mentality to can-do mentality) and move on with life with success in mind. I was also in a similar, though better situation. I graduated in one of the very good universities with CGPA which is very close to 1st class. I never indulged in self pity or consolation. I have met and surpassed many first class graduates. Pls, pls and pls, this is to all lower grade graduates: enough of multiple threads on the issue of finishing with low grades. Stop walloping in self-pity and inferiority complex. A word is enough for the wise (that is for the intelligent 2.2 graduates out there) |

I made my first million naira at exactly the age of 28 (this month) when i received my last salary and my account read one million and 34 thousand naira (N1000034). Apart from that, i had other savings from my business deals summing up to N120,000. I am yet to make necessary deductions for God. But this month will always be memorable to me I ask - when and how did you make your first million naira? |

GEJ is clueless, no doubt. ![]() ![]() Three, the comparison between building more universities and improving our value system does not follow BECAUSE value system is directly related to quality and NOT quantity. If the >100 universities (including the notable ones like UI,OAU, ABU, Unilag, UNN, FUTO, etc) we have in Nigeria can not provide sound values to our economy now, what guarantees do we have that 9 additional mushroom universities will drive our economy into a knowledge based one? ![]() GEJ and his army of sycophants are merely clowns that just seek to entertain and insult our intelligence. ![]() |

kheme:I will see if I can return the money. Police station is definitely a no-go area. If I am unable to trace the owner with a reasonable period of time, I will give the money to charity, I will definitely not use the money. For me, nothing like jazz or juju. It's all exaggerated superstition. I will touch the money. I am not a poor person, but if I were a very poor person living in absolute penury, I will use part of the money to feed myself at that moment, but will certainly return the remaining either to the owner or to charity, but with a confession that I had to feed myself with part of the cash. That's me!!!!! ![]() |

you must be so gullible and intellectually shallow to base Buhari's track record on a mere political statement during a rally. has IBB, Anenih,OBJ, Abdulsalami,Tinubu, Jonathan,Kalu, David Mark, etc ever admitted to have stolen? at one point in time, every notable politician in Nigeria has said the same thing. I know IBB and Tinubu have challenged the govt more than once to probe them. many ex-gov have said they weren't afraid of probe. These are mere political statement that dont hold water. tell me, how many probes in Nigeria have ever been concluded and a notable politician prosecuted? how did the power probe set up in the House of Representative end? was any body jailed? what later became of the Oputa panel? how about the various white paper reports written on Jos crisis? have they been implemented? has anybody been jailed as a result of ethnic crisis, bomb explosions or probe findings in Nigeria? many atimes, the govt has facts but they are unwilling to do anything because many, if not all the govt officials will be indicted themselves. dont be deceived. that's the sad peculiarity of Nigeria. |

i think i need to add my reasons too. i will never vote Buhari becuase he is empty-headed and visionless. he does have an indepth understanding of Nigeria's problems and complexities. he is selective in his anti-corruption crusade. he gallivants around with very corrupt minds like Abacha, El Rufai, Masari, Marwa, Aliero, etc all former PDP members who were rejected. i will never vote him because he has absolutely no moral standing. he tried curry IBB's favour and he even made desperate attempts to get Tinubu's support, which hit the brickwall. he is arrogant. he has never apologised for any of his evil misdeeds and stubbornly refused to attend the Oputa Panel which could have given him the opportunity to ask for forgiveness. he is a brutal and draconian ruler. People like Buhari should be ashamed of themselves in a civilized country. he is an ethnic and religious chauvinist and he is devious. he is trying to play on our intelligence by choosing a highly incompetent and inconsistent Bakare as VP. he chose Tunde Bakare because the only selling point he has is to play the sentimental card of religion. he is a coup plotter and he never hid his disgust and hatred for politics and politicians. now he wines and dines with morally bankrupt politicians. he is only coming to power to settle personal scores. he is old, worn out and expired. he is a poor communicator (effective communication is very important in modern day leadership). we dont need recycled, unintelligent and focusless leaders. Jonathan may not be perfect but he is far better than Buhari who signifies backwardness. |

i must say that i took my time to read through this thread and i must contribute my quota. (1) jonathan and the pdp have failed woefully in the last twelve. despite the large amount of money accrued to the FG btw 1999 and 2007, no single infrastructural development took place, instead. when jonathan came to power, he depleted our excess crude oil account without commensurate infrastructural development. jonathan seems to be clueless and certainly appears to me like a comtemporary nigerian politician who can dine with the devil to win votes. he has no principles and he is certainly not the change we desire. (2) i have studied buhari for quite some time. i have read about him and listened to him. buhari, like most core northerners (including ibb, yaradua, shekarau) is a religious and ethnic chauvinist. when late yaradua was in power, most of those heading juicy positions in govt were northerners. i have lived in the north for many years (i am a northerner too) and it is difficult to see a core northerner who is not a bigot, due to the nature of their culture and because ethnicity is deep rooted in nigeria. i assure you even ribadu would favour the north if he becomes president. (3) it is difficult to impose religion on the whole nigeria. it is also hard as a president in present nigeria to be unduely ethnically biased due to diversity, democracy, constitional restraints, federal character and press freedom which is better now than during the 80s. it may be possible to violate these conditions, it has a limit. (4) placing pdp/jonathan's achievement in the past 12 yrs side by side to buhari's achievements in govt and ptf, methinks buhari has done very, very well comparatively. amongst the candidates we have, he is the best by a wide gap. may i say that Jonathan is probably the 3rd or 4th best. buhari's feat in fighting corruption and his success in infrastructural development within a short time is far outweighs that of pdp who have nothing to show for 12 years of oil boom. may i add that it is better for us to have somebody who is motivated by religion to perform than to have somebody whose only motivation is greed for wealth and self-centredness (5) unfortunatately, i dont see buhari winning the election. sorry to say, his impending electoral loss will make it a hat trick. Jonathan will still remain the president come may 29, 2011. who knows? after winning the election, he may settle down for real work of national devt and his true colour will show. he may appear diplomatic now so as to win elections. Jonathan may be a tough nut to crack by corrupt politicians after the elections. |

buhari claims not to be corrupt but surrounds himself with a cabal of corrupt politicians who have hijacked him. this is similar to the way they hijacked late yaradua and isolated him from his then VP jonathan. i see the same happening to almost senile buhari who will be enstranged from his VP tunde bakare if voted to power. say NO to General Buhari bid back to power! |

Group Politics Editor, Taiwo Adisa, X-rays the famed anti- corruption stance of former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari(rtd.), the standard bearer of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the April 9 presidential election. Show me your friends and I will tell the type of person that you are is a popular saying. That saying clearly is further reinforced by another which goes thus: Birds of a feather flock together. In all these, the elders are reminding all that the company a man keeps tells a lot about his focus in life, especially his innermost character. Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari, is one man who is famed for living Spartan life since he was forced out of office in 1985. Many have said that Buhari remains incorruptible and that he was untainted by corruption all his public life. In recent years, Buhari has been practically elevated to the status of a demigod, especially among the downtrodden, who see some other leaders as incapable of treating the corruption cankerworm in the polity. Basking in that messianic posture, Buhari has been dazzling through the political terrain like the proverbial one man riot squad. He sees his challengers as the bad elements of the society and does not hide that feeling from his supporters, most of whom are barely literate. But the vocal northern politician, who currently heads the Movement for Justice in Nigeria, Alhaji Abdukarim Daiyabu, punctured the Buhari ego in a rare interview he granted Lagos-based magazine, The News. He stated that Buhari’s claim to being incorruptible amounts to a mirage in view of the type of friends he keeps. While Buhari carries about the image of a corrupt-free leader, he has as his close friends, persons with huge corruption charges on their heads. He said that with such persons around him, Buhari cannot make a good president. The northern maverick politician said of Buhari and his followers: “Actually, there is nothing wrong with General Muhammadu Buhari, but there is everything wrong with his surroundings. It is very unfortunate that Buhari is surrounded by only unscrupulous people, some of them are the people he detained in Kirikiri when he was the military head of state because they had looted their state’s treasury. “But still, you find them around him. They have pinned him down like a prisoner. He only does what they plan for him. So, where do we go from here? You can imagine somebody like his lawyer, Mike Ahamba, who has been with him for the past eight years has now opted out completely, he said there is no internal democracy in house. “You can imagine there are complaints in the ward congresses and primary elections of CPC even in states where General Buhari is popular? There are complaints everywhere that somebody got the highest votes, but the name was changed at the head office of the party. And so many cases are now in court. So, it is only innocent masses in certain strategic locations that like Buhari, but not those who surround him who are after themselves, what they will get or after what they will become. “So, if today, you forget about the election and just take Buhari and put him in Aso Rock and say you are president, with these people around him, he cannot do anything. After all, Buhari is a trained officer, not a politician; he is still in the learning process of politics. But tell me if there is anybody around him now who is a politician to the core? Secondly, there is nobody that is honest around him, even, their own people are complaining about them.” While comparing the situation around Buhari with that of the presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Daiyabu said that Buhari’s situation is worse because he now surrounds himself with those he jailed for corruption as Head of State in 1984. He said: “If you are talking about that, what about Buhari who had imprisoned some people before and it is those people that are even controlling whatever he is doing now. As the Head of State, and during his regime, some people were found guilty of looting the treasuries of their states; the people were imprisoned in the Kirikiri prison. I know at least one of them- Sule Hamman, the Director of the Campaign for General Muhammadu Buhari. So, the issue of Ribadu is a minor one. Daiyabu’s submissions paints Buhari in the mould of The Man, a character in the famous Ayikwei Armah’s prose The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born. The Man was the clean, anti-corruption hero, who harbours the most corrupt of the society. In the end, the verdict is clear, like minds always think alike. A peep at Buhari’s friends will provide further insights. Alhaji Sule Hamman: He is the Director General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, a close ally of Buhari since the General stepped into the political fold in 2002. Though Hamman has been more of a political technocrat around Buhari, he wields a huge influence on his politics. Recently, he was the head of a negotiating team with some groups in the North including Unity Forum (UF) and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), in their bid to make Buhari the new consensus candidate of the North. Hear Daiyabu on Hamman: As the Head of State, and during his regime, some people were found guilty of looting the treasuries of their states; the people were imprisoned in the Kirikiri prison. I know at least one of them- Sule Hamman, the Director of the Campaign for General Muhammadu Buhari. Muhammed Abacha: He is the gubernatorial candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kano State. He was earlier rejected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the basis of the allegations that he had been tainted by corruption stains which trailed his late father, General Sani Abacha, to the grave. The late Head of State is on record to have looted about $5billion from the coffers of the Federal Government. Some of the allegedly looted funds are still subject of litigation as at now. Though his decision to join the CPC was said to have been resisted by Buhari initially, the General soft pedalled, allowing him to hijack the party machinery in the state. While Buhari expressed likeness for the candidature of Colonel Lawal Jarafu Isah as the gubernatorial candidate of the party in Kano, Mohammed met little or no resistance as the game was reduced to money power. He won convincingly and at a stage, the opposition to his victory was said to have threatened Buhari’s leadership of the CPC. Today, Mohammed Abacha is one of the top financiers of the CPC. Dr. Hassan Lawan: He joined the PDP since 1999. Having served in the government of former President Obasanjo as Labour Minister, he also retained the position briefly under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and was later moved to the Ministry of Works, which he combined at a time with supervision of the Ministry of Health. Today, he is one of the arrowheads of Buhari in Nasarawa State and one of the main financiers. He is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly mismanaging billions of appropriated funds. Senator Yakubu Lado The senator, who is the gubernatorial candidate of the CPC in Katsina State, lost out of the calculation in the PDP following his virulent opposition to the invocation of the Doctrine of Necessity by the National Assembly in February 2010. Notwithstanding that the nation was at tenterhooks following the controversy that trailed the foreign trip of the late President Yar’Adua without transferring power to the vice-president, Lado and his cohorts tried all they could to keep the nation in the state of uncertainty. While most of his colleagues had imbibed the invocation of the Doctrine, which recognised the then Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President, Lado remained on the sidelines, perfecting strategies that could derail the train of democracy. He knew that his game was up in the PDP and that he could only find space outside of that party. General Buhari’s CPC was quick in providing him the room to foster his gubernatorial ambition. Dr. Sayyadi Aba Ruma and Dr. Tanimu Yakubu The duo of Dr Ruma and Dr. Tanimu played active roles in the ugly incident that characterised the end time of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua. They were actually fingered as the arrowheads of the manipulations that threatened to derail the country’s of democracy. Ruma was Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources and Tanimu was the National Economic Adviser. The powerful duo, who have been working closely with Senator Lado, were said to have immediately contacted Buhari once they lost out in the PDP setting. They were said to have offered to assist his campaign through the goodwill they made while in office. Buhari opened the floor to these men apparently because of the immediate desire to capture Katsina, his home state and the need to benefit from the financial assistance they could offer. Senator Adamu Aliero The Kebbi-born senator who was Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under President Yar’Adua had also participated actively in the bid to stop the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan, as acting President in February 2010. He has since opened up his deep purse to Buhari’s CPC. The former governor of Kebbi State is currently being tried for alleged corruption by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai Former Minister of FCT, Mallam Nasiru el- Rufai, recently became one of the Buhari allies. He had insinuated to that effect in some of his postings on the social networking site, Facebook. Recently he was said to have begun a finance drive for the General. Incidentally, el-Rufai is also not free from the corruption allegation bug. He has been charged to court by the EFCC over alleged mismanagement of some funds including the N32 billion proceeds of the sale of government houses in the FCT. |

@DejiYesufu, i quite agree with you that Goodluck Jonathan does not deserve to continue as president after May 2011, but I think only your first reason ( or 2 at most) makes sense. All other reasons are based on sentiments which hold no water. i think you can do better. i can give ten solid, straight-to-the-point, non-sentimental reasons why Jonathan should not be voted. I can also give ten solid reasons why Buhari should not be voted. All the presidential candidates have their drawbacks, but in my opinion, Ribadu seems to be the best. |
