Crime / Re: Correction: IGP Never Said ‘social Media Is For The Criminally Minded (video). by positivethought: 2:50pm On Jul 22, 2018

From this thread https://www.nairaland.com/4629930/igp-ibrahim-idris-social-media

Reacting to this post that has gone viral on the Nigerian cyberspace about a comment made by the inspector general of police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris that he said that social media is for the criminally minded. First thing that came to my mind was how can he say a thing like that when the Nigerian police has several active social media accounts, EFCC, ICPC and all other security agencies have social media account both Facebook and Twitter. This comment generated a lot of controversy online to the point I decided to watch the video myself on YouTube to see how such a comment would spew out of such a high profile individual. Idris was purported to have said this while answering questions from newsmen shortly after attending a function in Abuja on Friday.
The Police boss was asked what the Force is currently doing about restructuring the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) as more Nigerians are calling for the end of police unit.
Responding, Idris who expressed dismay at the question, said:

“You see, you have to be careful about this clamoring.
“Social media is a technology available to those that are criminally minded and we have to be careful on how we respond to this clamoring like you are saying.

“SARS is a unit of the police that I believe should be sustained, what we are doing is to ensure that they are properly trained, and we are providing facilities for them that will make work easy for them. But I have to tell you that they are doing a very wonderful job.”

Now after analyzing this video with my team, we see no where he said social media is FOR THE CRIMINALLY MINDED, rather he said it is a TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE TO THE CRIMINALLY MINDED which is true. English scholars can easily decipher this because they are not the same thing. What he said is correct just the same way people use churches and other institutions for criminal purposes, same way they use social media. So what the IGP said is very correct. I see no reason for controversy. The funniest thing about this issue is that many people who reacted to this claim never watched the video, they never took time to listen to what the IGP said they just concluded and started bashing him online. Please I know the security situation in the country is not so good and everyone is angry but let’s not heat up the atmosphere any further. I also call on fellow bloggers to be extremely careful with the way we pass our information around because the internet is very powerful. Techcapon.com has decided to clarify this ensure everyone gets the right information. Thank you

Watch the video again and this time very carefully

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzptM6-9zEs
The IGP could easily have said"the social media is an available wonderful technology but it can also easily be used by the criminal minded to commit crimes" but i guess as it has happen severally the IGP talks before thinking instead of the other way round,op you are only doing damage control like one lawyer that wrote in defense of kemiAdeosun claiming that in law you can not be guilty of obtaining what you are entitled to by fraudulent means!,but in all with Apc i'm not suprised.

This system appears good eeven though it may be costly,by the way was it apc or inec that organised the primary elections, were balots printed, how was security provided at the polling units, were there candidate agents, how much did it cost n how were the funds raised?,there is the need for these questions to answered before we are decieve into another abracadabra ,APC is to full of deciet deception n propaganda, this direct method as good as it may be will certainly involve lot of logistics n cost ,if due deligence is not taken we may just be dealing with monumental avenue of corruption in disguise n buhari will simply claim he didn't know or benefit directly from it.

Politics / Re: Fighting Factors: Why PDP Lost Ekiti To APC by positivethought: 1:49pm On Jul 17, 2018
EntertainingYou:
By Rwang Patrick Stephen

The 2018 Ekiti state gubernatorial election has traveled every which way. To be sure, the nascent democracy of Nigeria is flourishing. Our blossoming democratic journey is developing without question.
The event in Ekiti state has made thinkers, observers and watchers of politics, both at local, translocal, national and international levels to begin to ask the hallowed question of: “what went wrong in the PDP moving retrogressively backwards from 16/0 in 2014 to about 12/4 in favor of the APC in a state that was known as a ‘broomless’ state in 2014?”
For now, Ekiti is the only state in the southwest that is controlled by the PDP as well as the only state won by the PDP presidential candidate in 2015, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

The event calls for concern indeed. Like the legendary saying or maxim goes; “How are the mighty fallen? Gold has rust in Ekiti, what then would iron do?”
Some will argue that the Presidency played a role and the military and police were pro-APC. That fact and was applicable to the PDP victory in 2014 elections, where the state was said to have been militarized. But we mustn’t rely on the same baseless emotional attachment to sentiments. Money was used, as a core factor, and both parties played the money politics definitely.
The victory of Dr kayode Fayemi has been described as a hard fought battle by the presidency. That is true indeed.

CHALLENGES OF THE PDP THAT LED TO THEIR DOWNFALL IN EKITI STATE

1. IMPOSITION OF CANDIDATE: It was very clear, loud, and strong in the state the governor imposed his deputy against the wishes of so many members of the PDP. There were reactions, but Governor Fayose used his executive power to silence them. Some of the party members decamped or cross-carpeted to the APC. Some honourable members too did same. How then did you expect the PDP to come out victorious?
If the PDP had remained united and unanimously chose their candidate without any imposition, they would have come out victorious in the election. A house divided against itself shall fallout.

2. LACK OF PAYMENT OF SALARY TO CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE STATE:
There is a concept in Ekiti state known as ‘Stomach Infrastructure’. This is a nomenclature posed by the Fayose regime. No one is arguing about the authenticity of the stomach project, but paying the people their monthly salaries is very necessary. People are becoming wiser by the day. Any form of stomach analysis without bank alert to the workers ends in failure. The PDP missed it here, the same thing happened in plateau state. The government owed civil servants about six (6) months salaries into the 2015 elections, and they lost because of the owing factor.

3. DISCONNECTION FROM THE PRESUMED GRASSROOTS CONNECTION OF THE PDP: Governor Fayose has over the years been bragging about his grassroots connection. Let be clear on this point, it is very easy for the governor to gather youths in the Ado Ekiti metropolis to walk with him. It is another thing for him to have huge acceptability in all the remaining sixteen (16) local government areas. If truly he controls the grassroots as acclaimed, why didn’t they deliver his party in the just concluded elections? There was an election in Anambra state and the governor won the election because of his massive link to the people at the grassroots. Gov Ayo Fayose says things that never exist. In all ramifications, he lacks that grassroots connection in totality.

4. PRESUMPTUOUS PROPAGANDA: It was very worrisome to note that while Dr Fayemi was busy working hard to victory, the PDP camp were busy looking for propaganda to sell in other to gather or get sympathy. In politics, one thing is sure, number. Instead of gathering the taxi drivers and motorcycle riders in Ado Ekiti by the governor, he would have been busy in one of the local government that day mobilizing and campaigning for PDP. Another off strategy of the PDP was the police incidents teargas. Instead of the victory walk, he should have gone to an interior local government to campaign. Insulting the president was another mistake that was unnecessary.
The PDP in Ekiti failed to work. Rather was basing on propaganda to lure in the international community for possible intervention. That’s not good and correct at all.

5. WEAKNESS OF THE PDP CANDIDATE OR WEAK MOBILIZATION OF THE PDP CANDIDATE: While the APC candidate was busy working for his victory, the PDP candidate was just in government house receiving instructions and allowed his boss to do the work for him. He was not showing any meaningful seriousness to the people of the state on his capability and agility to lead. He forgot that his boss is not going to be the governor but him. There was a disconnect between him and the people. All what Ekiti people sees was Fayose. It is not Fayose they want to hear or see buy the governorship candidate. He never acted on his own to show the people his ability, he depended on the popularity of the governor. That’s not correct.

STRENGTH OF THE APC
1. Identification of PDP weakness: The APC maximized the loopholes discovered in the PDP. They took advantage of the weakness of the PDP candidate. They heard what they people said about his inability to represent himself. It worked for them, congratulations.

2. Blocking of PDP strongholds: The governor-elect did his homework very well. He lost to the PDP in 2014 and decided to study and understudy the system again. He knew the strength point of the PDP in the state and decides to block them from area of strength.
He also knew the local government areas he was popular in and build the bond there solidly.
The PDP failed to do this. They were busy doing mouth work while Fayemi was working.

3. Past experience knowledge: It is said “once beating twelve shy” the governor elect knew how it feels to lose. He vowed to work hard and avenge the disgrace while the PDP was busy sleeping on past glories of 2014. Experience worked and aided the victory of APC. Inexperience worked against the PDP. Lesson for all to learn from.

4. Military and police: it is arguably to say that same thing was done in 2014. Both parties are guilty of this. So the APC claimed they are doing something the PDP did while in power. Onlookers and observers described the APC use of military as worse. But the military and police has declined colliding with APC. They have said time and again that they are apolitical.
If the PDP did it home work correctly, they would have won. Many states have succeeded in past despite military presence.
As a political scientist, we look into the polity with our political microscope and political eyeglasses, to think deeply into the political jamboree and rigmarole in the state. We look beyond propaganda and political correctness. We investigate happenings to proffer solutions.

As discussed above. Other states governors are advised not to repeat the mistake make in Ekiti state. The fact that you are a seating governor doesn’t mean you can’t be unseat.
Political gladiators and leviathans must learn to work for themselves, not allowing others to work for them. Ekiti state has been described as an uncommon state of surprises. The PDP needs to seat up in the forthcoming Osun election. If the learn from the Ekiti mistake, they may come out victorious. Security maybe much but only the strong would survive the political drill.
APC is a ruling party, but the hard work of the governor-elect spoke for him. This victory is about grazing reserve, cattle colony or ranches, rather it is about the people of Ekiti.

I’ve been prompted to write a detailed review about Video Assistant referee (VAR) Technology following heavy criticisms of VAR from Nigerians and Africans alike. Africa have been bundled out of the 2018 world cup tournament and a lot of Nigerians think VAR played a key role in kicking Africa out of the tournament. Some even said VAR technology was introduced to eliminate African teams from the World cup ! In this post, I will explain VAR technology better and give deep insight including instances where VAR technology was used and how it favored African teams.

What is VAR and how does it work ?

Video Assistant referee is a team of three people who work together to review certain decisions made by the main referee by watching video replays of the relevant incident . It is a major innovative way to minimize human errors made by the referee during a game. VAR is football’s first use of video technology to reach more correct decisions.. The team is comprised of the video assistant referee himself (VAR), his assistant (AVAR) and a replay operator. They are situated in a video operation room which is essentially a room full of monitors offering different camera angles. The VAR team have the best viewing angles and full access to all 33 cameras in the stadium and communicates with the referee via a special fibre-optic radio. The VAR has no power to overrule a decision, he can only review a decision by the referee and help him make a but the final decision is made by the referee himself.

What are the rules of VAR ?

The video assistant referee team supports the decision-making process of the referee in four critical game-changing situations:

1. Penalty decisions and offences leading up to a penalty including foul leading up to penalty
2. Goals and offences leading up to a goal.
3. Direct red card incidents only.
4. Mistaken identity

Did FIFA introduce VAR technology just because of the world cup ?

CAPITAL NO ! VAR have already been in existence since last year with Italian Serie A and German Bundesliga already using the technology. The only reason the English premiere league are not using it yet is because more than half of the club voted against it. It’s only a matter of time before they join other leagues who have implemented it.

Can VAR also make a mistake ?

Yes it can ! No technology is 100% perfect. I'll give instance where made mistakes in the world cup. However, I can say with full confident that VAR is 90% accurate. 90% accuracy in any exam is excellent and I commend FIFA president Gianni Infantino for introducing this excellent technology into football. If the English Premiere League choose to remain in the stone age, that’s their problem.

Instances where VAR was used in the World cup and their verdicts according to top football analysts.

Sengal vs Colombia – Senegal denied penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

South Korea vs Germany – Kim goal awarded after initial offside call
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Mexico vs Sweden – No penalty for Hernandez handball
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Nigeria vs Argentina – Nigeria denied penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision (Yes it was poor defending by Rojo, the handball was however not intentional)

Iran vs Portugal – Iran awarded penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Wrong decision (Unintentional handball)

Iran vs Portugal – Ronaldo awarded penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Saudi Arabia vs Egypt – Saudis given second penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Wrong decision

England vs Panama – Kane awarded hat-trick
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Belgium vs Tunisia – Hazard awarded penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Nigeria vs Iceland – Sigurdsson blunders late lifeline
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Brazil vs Costa Rica – Neymar dives for a penalty
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Iran vs Spain – An offside equaliser
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Sweden vs South Korea – VAR-assisted penalty decision
VAR: Yes

Verdict: Correct decision

Was VAR really against African teams ?

From the analysis above, the answer is a BIG FAT NO. VAR made the right call almost in all the games. The only mistake VAR did in an African game is between Egypt and Saudi Arabia which analysts recognized but it’s not an African witch hunt. It was South Korea’s late goal, confirmed by VAR, knocked Germany out of the FIFA World Cup yet they didn’t cry wolf. VAR made a mistake against Portugal yet Portugal qualified. Lack of quality and preparation caused Africa to exit the world cup in such a disgraceful manner. You cannot give what you don’t have !

please stop the nonsense about "unintentional",once your hand(s) is extendend away from your body n comes in contact with the ball it is hand ball n a foul simple n short, why was iran awarded a penalty against portugal then?.
Politics / Re: Why Attacks On Vice President Osinbajo Are Unreasonable - By Kurtis Adigba by positivethought: 10:38pm On Jun 29, 2018
Opinionated:

Yemi Osinbajo, professor of law, SAN, is an accomplished professional. Unlike many of our politicians, he has a second address. In other words, outside of government, he can survive, and survive with panache. Before his current position, he was the Attorney-General of Lagos State for 8 years. He performed excellently.

Prof. Osibanjo, is also a senior pastor with the RCCG. He was the pastor in-charge at the Banana Island road branch, Ikoyi, Lagos, of the church. As the senior pastor of the church, he was known for his humility, frugality, and godly virtues. Osibanjo, unlike most of his colleagues who will seat in their high offices and delegate evangelism to others, was always on the roads, accompanied by his wife, Dolapo, preaching the gospel of Jesus. He is a self-effacing man!

VP Osinbajo, was not looking for a job when he was nominated by president Buhari as as running mate. President Buhari, on a mission to rescue Nigeria at the time was looking for a partner who is a man of proven integrity and honesty. He found in Osinbajo, the qualities he was looking for. He wasted no time in naming him after meeting him in Abuja. His choice, was a master stroke. Many Nigerians, received the news of his nomination with joy, and pledged their support. Buhari and Osinbajo were elected as president and vice-president of Nigeria under the APC, a party the opposition PDP, and CAN had described as a Muslim party. Some openly expressed their disdain with Osinbajo for accepting to serve under Buhari, a perceived Muslim extremist. They asked: why would Osinbajo a Christian and pastor, agree to serve under a Muslim?

Osinbajo threw himself into the job with dedication. As a senior lawyer, he knows the limits of the powers of his office. He knows he is not the president. He knows that he must remain loyal to the president, and do the jobs given to his office by the president. With a president on his seat, the only thing he can do is to advice the president. He cannot insist that his advice be followed. In the absence of the president, he becomes the Acting president. We are all witnesses to how he brilliantly and efficiently held the office in the absence of the president. He travelled to different parts of the country to reconcile the government with certain parts of the country. He implemented policies that strengthened the naira against the dollars following the positive outcome of his negotiations with the leaders and militant groups in the SS part of the country. He created a pervasive sense of unity, and remained loyal to the president by attributing everything he did to the president.

Osibanjo, is highly trusted by president Buhari. The president is so comfortable with him that he ceded the management of the nation’s economy to him. For a every critical assignment or mission, he is the go-to-man of the president. He has visited many conflict areas on behalf of the president. Many will remember that he is the first to visit and commiserate with communities that has been attacked by the Fulani Herdsmen. After the attacks on some Benue communities leading to egregious deaths and destruction, VP Osinbajo visited the state more than once in a month. He attended the funerals of some of the victims of the attacks, and gave a heartfelt address on that occasion.

Recently, VP Osinbajo, has come under attacks by some pastors and their supporters. Many are questioning why and how he can still claim to be a Christian and pastor, and remain in the government out to eliminate Christians and Christianity. They are calling on him to quit. This is to say the least, uncharitable!

Many of the pastors, making these calls, will not even consider resigning from their positions in their churches no matter how bad things are. They will also, no brook any opposition from any pastor under them. Any pastor under them that holds a contrary view on issues will be removed on the direction of some spirit. This is the truth! The same people are the ones asking Osinbajo to stand up and confront the president. I’m not against Osinbajo confronting the president, or resigning from his position if he thinks there reasons to do so, that is his call to make. I’m against those attacking for not leaving in pursuit of their narrow and selfish objective. VP Osinbajo, is not in government as a pastor. He is there as an administrator whose actions and inaction, are governed by the laws of the country. He took an oath that imposed a duty on him to be fair and just to all, irrespective of their tribes and religion. He is the vice-president of Nigeria, not of the Christians in Nigeria!

If the pastors, believe that Nigeria should be governed by Christians only, they can form a Christian party in Nigeria, and contest elections. This is the situation in some European countries. In 2019, VP Osinbajo, maybe on the ticket with Buhari hopefully, and we have the opportunity to decide his fate.

What many may not have adverted their minds to, is what the situation could have been without the moderating voice and influence of Osibanjo. If Mordecai had been in the palace to counsel Esther, the Jews would have been destroyed from the counsel of Hamman.

Let me conclude this piece by advising the pastors and their supporters to, spare Osinbajo from the needless attacks. The Muslim community is standing solidly behind Buhari, who is the leader, and on whose desk the buck stops. We are tearing at our own. The pastors, should devote their energies in raising up righteous men who will takeover the affairs of the country, and set us on the path to sustainable development. VP Osinbajo is not perfect, only God is!

God bless Nigeria.

Source: Why Attacks on Vice President Osinbajo are Unreasonable

There is one major reason why i don't think that i will ever value the personality of osibanjo even though i have always view him with scepticism, osibanjo prides himself as a proffessor of law n a christian pastor, the major reason why there was insistance for a christian vice to buhari was fear of the religious agenda of buhari n hence the need for a christian to serve as a watch dog n checkmate, osibanjo coming from tinubu created doubts right from the beginning, the one incident that has proven the uselessness of osibanjo is the leah sharibu case, osibanjo is the second in command n therefore in the know of the federal govt actions concerning the dapchi kidnapped girls if he is not then that is a catastrophe. The only reason leah is still be held is because of the refusal to renounce her christian faith, the leah issue is a direct challenge n test of osibanjos faith n integrity as a pastor, proffessor n commitment to protecting the christian intetest which is the major factor responsible for his position today but what have we seen,a disguasting display of feeble mindedness n cowardice.we all know what would have been the result if the situation is reversed, the christendom from all the country n indeed the world n heavens will be shaken to its roots if osibanjo boldly challenge the federal government to ensure the unconditional release of leah within 14days or he shall resign but im sure he would rather die than to that, this also remind me of the chibok parents who were decieve to believe that buhari will get back there girls but till today even the few that were released no one can actually say anything about there issue,so you may have earn you pay for your efforts at osibanjos image laundry but he is failure already but is anyone even suprised?.

The issue of arbitrary estimated billing can still be corrected with the use of the old meters, it's just a question of encasing the meter with strong metal sheets with locks, a small glass space for reading, the whole construction should be in a way that will make it impossible for disconnection n reconnection of the feeder cables from outside simple, the problem had been the issue of illegal connection by passing the meter, we are just creating avenues for exploitation with all these unnecessary attempt to mordenise when a very simple technical idea would have been effective.

Nobody but revisionists such as yourself would consider him to be.

Atiku on the other hand has been indicted by a US SENATE Committee.

His case is so bad they cite him as an example of corrupt African leaders.

A thief would never be allowed to rule Nigeria.
please can you explain why the US government has not declared Atiku wanted even with the so called senate indictment .

PMB has promised to uplift the country through economic revival, signs of that are becoming obvious by the day.

Heavy duty equipments are seen moving to Baro Port for the completion of Baro Inland Water Port.

When completed, the port will create over 2M jobs

Thank you Baba.
ordinarily this would have been good news even though the talk of 2million jobs is just thrash of political propaganda, the issue is has the dredging of river Niger completed down to the open ocean? if this has not been done then it's all just a wild goose chase, I know buhari is very desperate to give his kinsmen strong advantages in every aspect of the nation's affairs but it's not just by desire or might but by strategic thinking, planning n execution, northerners will be shocked to realize that effective inland water transport will actually favour the southerners especially igbos better than anyone else, just think of a functional inland port at onitsha n the igbo dominance of the import export business, so it's not a bad idea after all.

It was not a penalty. It was unintentional.

Iheanacho and Ighalo are the problem. Selfishness and unclinical idiots
iheanacho ighalo may have Bleep up but that was a penalty, you can only talk of intent if the ball was last played by your opponent n your hand is not extended away from your body at the time of impact but certainly not you playing the ball against your own extended hand when not been pushed!,it was undoubtedly a penalty n a clear case of bias n outright cheating.

We lack pace, we lack energy, we can't mark, we can't pass ball accurately and we can't even score open goals. People shouting FIFA and Referee ojoro, how? must we score by penalty

Watch Senegal team, even if they lose, if u are a Senegalese u will be proud of them watching how dedicated, agile, fast and determined they are.

Our players don't even know what to do with ball when they get ball. Run, they can't run. Chase, they can't chase. Mark ball, they can't mark. Score goal, they can't score , ah ah how una wan take score na

I don't know why we keep playing the same useless, dull football since ages, we need to start training on how to play energetic, fast game if we intend to go far in FIFA senior world cup anytime

Musa is the only player in the team that deserves to be a footballer. Others are just plain idiots strolling around pitch.

Iheanacho and Ighalo deserves to be banished from Nigeria; two useless strikers and they still got signed with millions by European teams, mhen life is just luck and destiny. Because if not luck and destiny how can Iheanacho and Ighalo become international footballers playing in European clubs and earning millions while some hot players die in their village wretched

If life isnt about luck and destiny how can a dull, heartless person like Buhari become a military general and later the president of 190 million smarter people

My people no kill yourself in life o, whatever u will be, u will be it whether u are good or bad simple angry
Thank you, you just spoke my mind, many times I have raised these observations in my hood but the so called patriotic supporters would not let anyone rest with Mikel this n that stories, just see how morroco played Spain even with just pride at stake, if it were Nigeria I'm sure we would have lost by 4-0.
