Hi Justwise, really appreciate you for the wonderful work you and others are doing here. Pls I need a lil help. Just found out that my dad did not save the complete money for my tuition and it is almost 28 days. Has about 200 pounds to go. Pls wat do I do? Should I use the statement like that? PLS HELP!

I think you should send the £200 to the school and let them give you a receipt, if you have already gotten your CAS. If you have not gotten your CAS, then the amount should reflect, and reduce your tuition and maintenance to be shown in the account. Please don't try using the statement like that as they might point it out.
I hope this helps.

hi friends,l will like to confirm if truly l don't need a CAS letter to summit for  uk embassy,my school said ''l only need a CAS number'' your response will be appreciated

I believe that the school will send you an email with your CAS, cos that is only where you can confirm the CAS number. If this is done, please print it out and attach it to your application. Mine was sent to my email and I printed it and submitted with my application.

@tyolsgirl Congratulations. @justwise thanks for your best wishes.

@gbemleks The answer for question 4.2 was stated on my CAS letter as NQF Level 7. Check your CAS letter, perhaps the answer was specified, if not I think you should go ahead with justwise's answer.

Thanks and a big congratulations to you too,

@ tylosgirl--- congratulations
can u pls give us a breakdown of the duration btw when u submitted your application till today when u receive the good news, also of utmost importance are the list of documents submitted to help others on this forum

Thanks a lot. Well honestly I didn't want to post the duration to avoid scaring off people. Mine took scary 30 working days as I submitted in third week of June. I had to send them an email and then I got a response back telling me it will be sent back this week. But in all I thank God it was successful even though mine was a special case,

The documents I submitted are listed below
List of all supporting evidence listed on my CAS, where it was indicated as statement of result or certificate
Waec, Degree and Professional Certificates
Birth Certificate
Statement of Account - Personal (I printed 3 months)
Letter of reference from the bank
My Job offer letters, and copy of my work ID card
Printed CAS, and offer letter from the school
Sworn Affidavit and police report for documents lost

I did not submit any proof of income, as my bank statement did not show any salary lodgement, I also did not submit any letter of introduction from employer, nor accommodation proof as my school doesn't have halls of residence.

Wish everyone applying all the best in their applications. Just follow this thread and the tier 4 guidance and you will be fine.

Hello NL’s, I submitted my application for student visa for almost one month now and haven’t heard anything from BHC yet. They gave me a tracker ID which I tried to use online but not working. I’ve been to the office severally to complain and check but they keep telling me to check back the following week. I’m getting worried and want some advice here. Is anyone having the same issues with student visas at BHC?

Maybe you should mail them at Abuja. I also submitted and was so worried and I just got it today after 30 scary working days, I sent them an email and I got a response, so you can try it out.

Baba Ibada:

@ Justwise,
I have always followed your advice on visa applications especially your take on the issue of going through agents. I had at one time engaged the service of an agent but had to stop when i found out that I could do what the whole thing myself. But the only regret i seem to have is that the BHC tend to favour applicatons made through agents not by issuing or refusing visa but by quickly processing the application. It's ten working days now since i made may application by myself but a friend who just submitted his application through an agent on thursday (4 working day from now) though refused, got response today? when I submitted my application at Lekki, I was asked whether i used an agent or not of which i said no and was given a red bag while applications made through agent were contained in black bags. Dont u think the BHC seems to give preference to activities of the agents?
ceteris09:

@ Baba Ibada.
I have been a keen follower of your posts. May be because i stay in Ibadan, lol. Anyways, u are absolutely right about the red and black bags. I was given a red bag, though i used an agent as well as followed the tier 4 policy guidance to the letter. But i denied using an agent at Ikeja because: (1) it doesnt guarantee visa success; (2)it makes BHC to process application hastily. Hence, my reason for denying using one. I also submitted on 28th of July, and I'm patiently counting 15 working days. Prayer and Patience is the key. If i may ask, why was your friend denied visa?

I really do not believe this is totally true. From what I have gathered red bags are given to applications that are point based and are to be sent to BHC in Abuja for processing. When I submitted mine, also at Ikeja, I was not asked if I was submitting through an agent or not. The only statement made was "This is a tier 4 application", I said yes, and I saw the attendant bringing out a red bag. The only student I saw with a black bag, told me he was applying as a student visitor because his course was 6 months, obviously this should be treated in Lagos.
I have also seen several people who didn't use agents, yet got their decision on time. I believe timing in decision depends solely on individual applications, and not the agent involved.

@justwise

Thanks again for the earlier response.

I have gotten my CAS via email but i have a problem with some issues

1. When i applied for my admission, i was asked to input my passport number which i did but the issue is the passport got missing and i had to request for a reissue from the Nigerian Immigration which was done. so i have a new passport with a different passport number.

However when i got the CAS letter, the passport number on it was that of the lost passport, now i am confused on what to do.

Should i send the school an email with my new passport bio data page, the receipt and affidavit sworn at the court in respect of the stolen passport and request for a new CAS letter or should i ignore it and send these details to the UK embassy along with other documents when applying for the visa.

2. I said earlier i was going to use my dads account and i think it expected to sent in my birth certificate and a notorized letter stating our father - son relationship & stating that i am allowed to use the account.

The issue is one of the account is a fixed deposit account of 2mil while he runs a seperate salary account. Can i use both account cause judging by the amount needed 6000 (balance of tuition fee) & 5400 (living expenses) - which is 2.7mil?

3. do i need to send in original copies of all the documents needed or would photocopies be okay?

Thanks and i do await a quick response

Well, that was an error actually, because immediately the passport got missing, you should have notified the school and ask them to hold on so that the new changes can be reflected. I don't think its wise to apply with the CAS when it is showing a different passport number. If possible you can request for a new CAS showing the new details, so BHC wont hold on to that.

I think for student visa, original copies are best used in application,

No specific document was stated, they just stated that: "evidence used in accessing candidate is a bachelor degree in --------" that's all that was written on the CAS letter.

Thanks.

I would suggest that you hold on for the comment of Justwise, since he is more experienced in this area. I feel you might not need the transcript if it is not stated, but I might be wrong. It might be needed, and it might not.

Thanks a lot for your answer, I have my certificate can I use just that? I just want to avoid the transcript wahala if possible. because it takes long to get any document from the university I attended and I have to start paying people up and down again.

I am planning to apply to the embassy with just my Certificate and maybe my university admission letter as evidence of my undergraduate degree, I want to know if this is advisable.

Thanks a lot for the free advice on this thread, they are all highly appreciated.

May God bless you(@ tyolsgirl) and @Justwise a lot.

Thanks.
If you have not gotten your CAS yet, you can indicate to the school that you will only be using your certificate, or submit your certificate only when applying for the admission, so that only the certificate can be listed on the CAS. Cos the key issue is for the transcript not to appear on your CAS as evidence of documents, else you might need to submit it.

@JWISE,

does the 28 days start counting all over again after transferring the funds from my savings to my dorm account?

i'm thinking of leaving the funds in my savings and face the risk of flunctuation in pounds rate when i want to pay the fees,

what is the best way of paying the deposit? is it through wired transfer which take time or raising a draft most popularly through GTB my bank? please gimme me info on how to effect the transfer in the fastest possible way as i want my CAS and tier 4 letter to get to me before my 28 dayss, thansk bro

I think the 28 days will start counting from the day you deposited the money into your account. I believe you can still leave the funds in your savings account if you feel there is not much time on your side, but if you still have enough time, you can put it in the dorm account. Even if there is fluctuation on exchange rates, I don't think it will be too much anyway.

For paying your deposit, it will depend on the various modes given to you by your school. Some schools accept visa cards, while some only accept wire transfer. If you do wire transfer to UK, it should normally take about 2 to 3 working days depending on the bank though. Raising a draft will mean that you will have to send it to UK either by Fedex or DHL I think, which will also take like 2 working days, So I believe you can weigh your options and choose the one best for you. CAS normally takes 5 working days.

Now my question is will it be necessary to submit a transcript from your undergrad university, if the it was stated the the evidence used to access the academic ability was the undergraduate degree. and no other document was stated.

I just want to be sure about this.  Thanks.

If the evidence document is your undergraduate degree, then you should be able to use your transcript and your certificate if you have it. Mind you, if it is stated as Undergraduate degree certificate, then they will expect to see a certificate.

@justwise Hi, hope you are doing well. I am submitting my application this week.

Please if you are on this forum and have submitted your application, could you kindly guide me on how to properly complete section 5.5 on the PBS Tier 4 General Student Self Assessment form? The question is below:

5.5 Have you been assessed by your sponsor by other means, for example by progress on a continuing course of study, as
part of a study abroad programme, by your sponsor’s internal test, a portfolio of artwork, or other means (state which)?
(Please do not submit this) Put a cross (X) in the relevant box.
No - Go to Question 5.6
Yes - Say how you have been assessed in the space below
then Go to Question 5.6

My CAS letter states that the evidence used to obtain my firm offer is my Bachelor's Degree. Do I fill it in this space or not?  I am a bit confused. Thanks.

For the section 5.5, you can tick that box in line with the mode your school used to give you the unconditional offer. If a test was conducted for you, then you can tick in the box, and state what test. But if you were not interviewed, but granted admission only by submitting your documents, then I think you do not need to tick that box, or tick NO. Progress on a continuing course of study to me are for those who are currently running a program in their school here and are switching or transferring to a course or level over there (e.g a year 3 student here who wants to run a degree course over there, will normally be assessed by progress and fixed into like year 2 or so. Just my opinion though, I might be wrong.

If your CAS states the evidence as your Bachelor's Degree, then I think you should only submit that document and all other documents you used in getting the admission just as justwise has said.

@justwise u have been wondaful so far from d begining of the forum and i appreciate all your responses so far coz have been able to learn and it has been useful to me so far,However pleaase i will like u to educate on how d money in the bank will be calculates my school is inside london which i have also paid 100% tution fees,i know i now require to have 7200p in my account for 28dys but what i want to know is what rate do they use coz from my own calculation dat should be 1800m naira, although i have more than that but i want to know the exact amount the 7200p will be cox i dont want to make mistakes. Thanks

I do not think British High Commission have a specific rate used in calculating the funds. But you can follow the Oanda conversion rate as at the date of your statement, and quote the date, Just my opinion though, I might be wrong.

What you did here now is what everybody who gives advice here is trying to do, not everybody knows the right form or link to lick, some pple do read from that websites and still need some clerification on some issues. Visa issue is not black and white.

Yeah I quite agree with you. That's why it is good to ask for clarifications so one wont be lost. You can also help with that, by posting links to application forms you think are (or will be) useful for the tier 4 application, so that as they go through the thread, they can see the forms and guidance also. This I believe will also reduce the aspect of you answering the same thing all over again every time. You are doing a good job tho.

who will pay for your course fees?
Who will pay for your travel to the UK?
Who will pay for your expenses such as accommodation and food?
Please provide details of your financial sponsor(s). >>>>
If you are funding yourself state ‘Self funding’ and go to 8.41.

pls help provide answer to this question, by the way, will he choose SELF FUNDING AND SPONSOR?

thank you, GOD bless u real good

You do not need that information for tier 4 applications. U must have picked the wrong form which is VAF3a* (formerly for student applications) The forms you are supposed to fill for your tier 4 application is only VAF9 PBS Migrant, and PBS Appendix 8 (General). You will also find it where you got the previous form.

Bank statement will do, the BHC will not only look at the bank balance but also the income per month or year. He should give you his active account that shows his incomes, if his account shows that he is capable of sponsoring you then that is what matters. Remember that he also need to give you a letter to reinforce his committment to sponsor you through out your studies in the UK

Ok thanks,

Please can i just point out here that i'm not in any way trying to scare anybody about the whole money issue or discourage anybody.

If you are using money held by your parent(s) or legal guardian
Close
If a student is relying on money held by your parents(s) or legal guardian, you must show that you are related to your parent(s) or legal guardian. You must provide:
your birth certificate showing the names of your parent(s); or
your certificate of adoption showing names of both parent(s) or legal guardian; or
a court document naming your legal guardian.
You must provide the original legal document or a notarised copy.

You must also show that your parent(s) or legal guardian have given their permission for you to use this money. To do this, you must provide a letter from your parent(s) or legal guardian confirming:

your relationship with your parent(s) or legal guardian; and
their permission for you to use their funds to study in the UK.

If you don't work and you are relying on your parents or a relative then BHC would want to know if your sponsor has a good source of income to see you through your studying time in the UK.
If your sponsor shows things like good bank account, payslip or anyother good source of income then that will convice the BHC that u did not just borrow that money for the suppose of visa application and will return it as soon as the visa is issued.

I'm telling you what i did and many pple here did and was given a visa without an interview or delay

Thanks that was really helpful. I dont think you are trying to scare me or anyone here, but I think its always better to seek good clarification of issues you see or read, so there wont be problems.
You are doing a great job here, keep it up, I hope I'll be able to give back what av learnt to others who might be in my shoes later on (Just like you), smiley

I need you to clarify this for me please. If I am using a sponsor who is self employed and doesn't have a tax clearance certificate, what documents do you think I might submit as regards this. What came to my mind while I was reading the link you posted was statement of accounts, but I think this will only be necessary if the money will be in the sponsor's account. But where the money is now in my own account, what additional documents do you think I can submit for this, or am I supposed to submit two types of accounts??
Thanks,
Travel / Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered by tyolsgirl: 10:07am On Jun 01, 2010
justwise:

I think i answered your question then, I'm afraid, the only person who can sponsor you is a person who shares the same family name with you.eg. your brother, sister, uncle, dady&mum, etc. Source of income does matter, your sponsor needs to give you sponsor's letter and evidence of his source of income.

Source: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/adult-students/evidence/money/

Hello Justwise. I went through this link you just posted and from all indications, I could see that once the funds are held in the students personal account, it is not necessary to show the source of the funds. I think those required to show source of funds are legal guardians or parents or when the funds are not held in the students account.
The guy who asked that question stated that, his dad's friend will be depositing the money in his account right? Okay if the money will be in his account for 28 days, does he still need to show additional source of funds? Please kindly clarify this,

Thanks

@Justwise:
Thanks for the response the other day. I have now moved the money from fixed deposit to my savings account, splitted into four and deposited same day, I hope this doesnt matter at all.

Secondly please kindly clarify this issue: Is it compulsory for me to show tax clearance certificate as part of my supporting documents for the student visa? if No, then what will I need to show as the source of where I got the maintenance fee from
Would appreciate your response

Thanks
