By now your head would have swollen to heights un imaginable, because you are a pessimistic person, I wonder if the chinese people who you now live with, if they had given up on their country years ago, I wonder if you would possibly now ever find a place to abode, like I said, it is not only enough to give up on Nigeria, do it quick so we can know the people remaining, noone will loose any sleep if you give up on Nigeria.

A baseless statement is a conclusion reached without premise. That you disagree with a conclusion does not make it baseless.

The most in coherent, contradictory and meaningless thing I ever read in years.

Are you kidding me tombola?  Do you have the basic understanding of the english language? Because if you do, i expect from you the exact opposite of what you wrote in response to kobo.

As of now, I believe that Nigeria [Nigerians] ought to do one of four things:
[li]Divide into provinces, or different regions of sovereignty, and behave like states under alliance.[/li]
[li]Declare Bankruptcy and restructure the country (focus will be mainly on government, politics, and policies)[/li]
[li]If you still have faith in the country, then invest in your local regions. Forget about building Nigeria as a whole. Rather each person should focus on building up his or her own local areas. Then riding through the storm, because nations are long-term investments.[/li]
[li]Dissolve "Nigeria", and let it be absorbed into neighboring countries (the end of "Nigeria"wink[/li]
I think with time the centre will begin to lose more and more of its power, this is the only logical outcome.

Why declare Bankruptcy Nigeria has enough money in her federal reserves to pay all outstanding debts, in fact Nigeria is in better stead than 99% of Western Nations when you look at it from that perspective.

UK, USA, Australia, Ireland are all HIGHLY indebted countries that may eventually have to default on their payments.

I have faith that Nigeria can operate as many regions collaborating under a single banner.

I’d never agree to the dissolution of Nigeria, simply because of the effect it’d have on the continent as a whole, especially where it pertains to peacekeeping operations.
Re: I May Give Up On Nigeria Soon by ChinenyeN(m): 2:20am On May 12, 2009
I didn't mean 'bankruptcy' in the monetary sense. I meant it in the sense of a 'failed state' (basically, Nigeria needs to shutdown and restart, afresh). My Mistake for not properly clarifying.

@ Nuzo
I may understand what you feel. Nigeria is a failed state and there are many Nigerians who hope and pray that God will someday hear our prayers and give us leaders who will have our interests at heart.

We generate our own electricity
We provide our own security(as much as we can)
We build our own roads, houses, schools, hospitals, etc
We provide water and food
We have ingeniusely provided various forms of transportation

what is the Governments doing
That is why unemployment is high, and crime rates are soaring.

I gave up on our governments a long time ago, just like many Nigerians but we hope and believe that Nigeria as a geographical entity, and a state will one day be better.
some may say its an illusion, but what can we do. Its our home. It will always be OUR HOME.

I've lived abroad for so long and i yearn to go home too. Its my HOME.
yes, its corrupt, and i have to generate my own electricity etc, but i've got no choice. Let us learn from history.

Isrealites abandoned their land and dispersed world wide. what happened?
Holocaust happened
and their are still fighting for their land till today

Nuzo, we all can make a difference.
By starting a business in Nigeria. You'll create job opportunities, no matter how small. I currently have 2 people under my pay at my office back home and soon my small factory will be operational and i'll have a minimum of 5 employees added to my payroll.
By investing in MY COUNTRY NIGERIA, I"VE PULLED ABOUT 7 PEOPLE FROM THE LABOUR MARKET.

If he wants to give up on Nigeria, let him go, who give's a flying Bleep?  I mean if not for the generous and hardworking Americans (who they rely on for welfare cheques), most of these people woulda relocted to another ready made country. They move their lazy asses from one country to the other in serch of 419.

Check the reasons they gave in their post, does that not tell us
their brains are less well developed than adult Chimps. Read their post and you come to the conclusion that they feed from other people's attention, or  why is it the same people (Kobojunkie etc) who gave up on Nigeria spends more time on Nigeria's flagship Internet domain? To hell with professional debaters.

Action is what is needed. I have followed arguments like those posed by the poster in this thread, in many threads and in many blogs/websites, the question readily comes to mind, when we will start acting and stop talking?
There's a coalition of the willing gathering (elsewhere) and if you honestly think you have a plan no matter how vaguely detailed, let's rub minds, the movement is on, believe it or not!
Re: I May Give Up On Nigeria Soon by FBS: 9:47am On May 12, 2009
Let us be honest with ourselves. Nigeria is a failed state. Nothing is working but can we make it work and how?
A million dollar question?
Re: I May Give Up On Nigeria Soon by Thor(m): 9:55am On May 12, 2009
Only people can make it change, but unfortunately many of the people in Nigeria are long lost to the corruption and general laziness that exists at root level.

Look at all the lazy, good for nothing criminal 419 boys, how many do you see spending their whole days sitting in internet cafes?

I have read your arguements and wish to make few contributions, Nigeria can never get better if the intellectuals continue to run away from Nigeria. I am an Engr with specialisation in Project Mgt. (Civil). My returning  to Nigeria in August is to set up my consulting company. I have also been in talk with the Dean, Faculty of Law in the University of Abuja in the past two months over my interest to lecture their Engineering students on Best Project Management Practices without any fee ie absolutely free, maybe twice in a month. Furthermore, I have also developed a programme which I intend to lunch in Nigeria sometime next year when I settle down. The idea behind the programme is to organise scholarship exams, supervised by myself and some other yet-to-be-selected upright individuals, for the motherless babies, and the successful candidates will be listed and published at my website. The public will have the opportuinity of financing any of the scholars and the arrangement is such that each scholar/benefactor will have direct financial relationship with their financier. Financiers will have the right to opt out by giving ample notice so that we can make alternative arrangements for the scholar.

Presently, I have one scholar in my programme who lives at Enugu and I have not met her, as my sister conducted the test last year. That is all I can afford for now as UK tax system has not the best for savers. I am in my twenties and one of my greatest dream is to offer scholarship, upto University level, to at least fifty Nigerians before I die. The only reward I will ask of these scholars will be to replicate same to orphans. Imagine if thirty out of these fifty replicate the scholarship to at least five people.

There are much more we can do for this country, Nigeria.

I wish to go off topic a bit,
Yesterday was the worst day of my life. I got reported to my Company Manager yesterday by my Team Manager for visiting Nigerian website, nigeriamasterweb.com, during my break and I was cautioned and instructed never to visit any Nigerian website (''scam'') at work again even when I made it clear to them that it is a newspaper site. How worse can it get when people you work with are sent to spy your daily activities without you knowing it.

Interesting ideas and some of us might be able to help you with your project and you might be able to contribute in other ways too with regards to development in the country since you seem quite keen. I am part of a group with the aim of giving people the opportunity to contribute to development in Nigeria wherever they can. Members also have projects they have going on as well as group projects. If you are interested in knowing more just let me know and if you aren;t keep up the good work.

Hope you are not viewing Nairaland from work o, before you get into trouble again. smiley

@nuzo, Me too don tire but dont write off the country yet! Nigeria is gradually decentralizing, I see a future where we wont give a damn about the federal govt and states will begin to do things like independent countries, Thereby accelerating devt, Its beginning to happen, Look at BRF in lag or amaechi in rivers.Even small imo, enugu, aibom and kd, States are beginning to take laws into their own hands, Yes,corruption still goes on but its being done with caution, These people are actually doing things to make life better for the people, Its almost like a competition and soon other states will join the fray.Someone on NL says he wants a revolution. It will definitely happen, but not in the way we all expect (jack bauer-style and all)but in a way that smacks of determination by a people to survive and to make their country better against all satanic odds, God bless nigeria

heartless? may be, but morons? never. those guys are not morons. we always think those guys are foolish/senseless. noooooooo, failed leadership is not the same as no leadership. failed leadership my describe the bush administration in the US which tried to build a stronger(economically and otherwise) nation but failed . no leadership is where the people in top govt positions are there not to lead, but to loot. their mission is different and they are achieving their mission, year after year.

You know for yourself that you dont maytter, so, no question here. The people that matter in Nigeria knows themselves, you dont even vote, before you say your reasons for not voting, keep them to yourself, the people that matter are those citizens who toil and labour day and night, who pay their taxes, who do their normal civic responsibilities to the nation Nigeria, these are the people that matters, not one run away exiled goon in one corner of the world who sees nothing good in the country Nigeria, he surely doesnt matter.
