LT SHANGY: Aguagust, i must really confess that you are the most enlightened on military matters in this forum. The missiles being developed at Epe, Lagos are being discovered to be anti-submarines and anti-ship missiles. The Nigerian navy are working round-the-clock to be near-perfectly efficient in naval warfare. Currently acquiring ASW skills in pakistan.

MR "SA is not on the list" is not even close to be the enlightened on military matters. Are you telling me about the person who failed to comprehend simple information written on a news tabloid and instead misinterpreted it? How many of such information he misinterpreted to deceive us because it has been proven that his analysis is not credible.

actually you failed cos Africa signed a defence co-operation memorandum of understanding with the CAR in 2007. “This followed decisions of the AU Peace and Stability council for its member states ‘in the name of African solidarity’ to assist with post conflict recovery of that country”. Bozize was over thrown, your troops were killed in high numbers and your equipments taken from you, you fled and chickened out from retaliating.

that's failure, not success.

you mean this base. they secured the base, ransacked it and drove your equipments around... they defeated you big time

The mission was to train some of the army of CAR, not our fault they switched side. There was never a any thing about SA defending CAR.

You should do some reshearch. In total SA had 3 bases in CAR. One was abondon in januray, the other was the old police stastion out side of bangui this was the one that got attacked and then there was the training base.

You should do reshearch.

Indeed, 419 brain will never think beyond its host. You are making unfounded claims by saying that SA had NATO support during the bush war. SA was under a heavy arms embago, yet had to fight dual war, both at home and in Angola without any military support from anyone. The US and China support was not of military nature but merely ideological. Initially SA challenged Angola in support of UNITA and the communist backed Angola called for the support of Fidel Castro and Russia. Both Cuba and Russia sent military support by pledging number of troops to fight on behalf of Angola, but America never pledged any soldiers to fight on behalf of SA. The Apartheid forces were outnumbered in Angola with only few weapons since they could not procure any because of UN sanctions.

MR "SA is not on the list" you have failed in your analysis. Go and make research about the bush war and come with a better improved knowledge to argue.

SANDF may widen naval antipiracy patrols to Tanzania

THE South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is considering the expansion of antipiracy patrols in the Mozambican Channel to include Tanzania, despite the barrage of criticism of the government over the force’s inadequate funding.

The antipiracy patrols, which are conducted in conjunction with the Mozambican navy, were approved by the Cabinet in 2010 after a request by the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) for South Africa to help thwart piracy from escalating in the region’s areas in the Indian Ocean and damaging trade.

Brig Gen Xolani Mabanga said on Sunday that the South African Navy offshore patrol vessels were rotated on a monthly basis. One had been relieved last week and another frigate would be replace d at the end of this month.

He said while one was in operation in the Mozambican Channel, another conducted combat and mission readiness exercises out of Simon’s Town.

Gen Mabanga said no arrests had been made by the Sadc force during the past six months, but the SANDF took pride in the deterrent effects of its presence in the Mozambican Channel. Piracy activities peaked in 2011 when 147 attacks and 22 pirated vessels were reported in the region.

"The African Union efforts ashore in Somalia and the combined international naval effort and presence at sea have reduced piracy activity to the current state of only two attacks with no successful vessel hijacking conducted in the past few weeks.

"We believe that the presence of Sadc naval force in the area contributed greatly to this reduction in piracy activities on the eastern African seaboard," he said.

But the defence force has seen a number of the South African Air Force’s R2bn fleet of Agusta 109 helicopters join the Gripen fighter jets in cold storage due to a lack of funds to fly them, while VIP helicopter flights continue to fuel public outrage.

Defence analyst Helmoed Römer Heitman last month bemoaned the fact that the army was overstretched and some of its equipment obsolete, saying the navy could patrol South African waters or the Mozambique Channel but not both, let alone important West African shipping routes; and that the air force had no maritime patrol aircraft and inadequate airlift capabilities.

Brig Gen Mabanga claimed the antipiracy success was due to the introduction of Integrated Maritime Domain Awareness centres in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique and South Africa. The maritime forces were now able to create an operational picture of which vessels were operating in the region, where they were and for what purpose.

He admitted the SANDF was now concerned about "a dramatic increase in piracy activities in the Gulf of Guinea" off the west coast of Africa. "The situation is being closely monitored by neighbouring Sadc countries."

Mike..ZA:

The Offensive Begins
10 September 1987
On 10 September 21 Brigade sent 2 battalions
with 5 T-55 tanks across the river, using a mobile
bridge-layer. South African observers, watching
the crossing, were amazed at the over-confident
behaviour of the enemy, with infantrymen
standing around casually, hands in pockets,
watching the crossing.

The Cuban/Faplan offensive had failed.

This offensive had been a Soviet
conception from start to finish. Senior Soviet
officers played a central role in its execution. Over
a thousand Soviet advisers were assigned to
Angola in 1987 to help with Moscow's largest
logistical effort to date in Angola: roughly $1.5
billion in military hardware was delivered that
year. Huge quantities of Soviet equipment were
destroyed or fell into Unita and SADF hands when
Fapla broke into a disorganized retreat... The
1987 military campaign represented a stunning
humiliation for the Soviet Union, its arms and its
strategy. It would take Fapla a year, or maybe
two, to recover and regroup. Moreover the
Angolan military disaster threatened to go from
bad to worse. As of mid-November, the Unita/
SADF force had destroyed the Cuito Cuanavale
airfield and pinned down thousands of Fapla's
best remaining units clinging onto the town's
defensive perimeters." (2)
The results of the campaign up to April 1988
were 4,785 killed on the Cuban/Faplan side, with
94 tanks and hundreds of combat vehicles
destroyed, against 31 South Africans killed in
action, 3 tanks destroyed (SADF tanks entered
the war after the Lomba River campaign) and 11
SADF armoured cars and troop carriers lost. A
total of 9 Migs were destroyed and only 1 SAAF
Mirage shot down.

you see why we call you south africans 33% barins ?

your above post just confirmed my fact, that south africa did not attack cuba/angola in the bush war, south africa was only defending, that keeps casualties low.

your post just proved me right grin if i insult your south african brain now you will say i have bad language, but how can i call a fool a genius ? grin

no source weblink for your post above, sure its a south african war propaganda new medium.

wikipedia says south african air force was hiding away on the ground most of the time from cuban air force because Mig 23 jet was superior to Mirage 2000 jet, so how did you shoot down cuban jets in ratio 9:1 'victory' ?
Satan himself helped you fly ? grin

wikipedia says cuba had about 50,000 soldiers against south african 3,000 frontline, the cuban army was large and mobile enough to encircle and sorrround south africa 4 times over ! yet south african news report that 4,785 cubans k.illed but only 31 south africans killed. so how did you k.ill cuban soldiers in ratio 160:1 ? grin

south africa should be on Guiness book of world record for war k.ill ratios greater than america and russia combined grin

It is in this meeting that President Ford told the Chinese: "We had nothing to do with the South African involvement, and we will take action to get South Africa out, provided a balance can be maintained for their not being in". He also said that he had approved 35 million US dollars more (in support of the north) above what had been done before. They discussed and agreed who should support the FNLA or UNITA by which means and in what manner taking into account the sensitivities of the neighbouring countries.

on 20 December 1975, the U.S. Senate passed an amendment banning covert assistance to anti-Communist forces and curtailing CIA involvement in Angola. Later that winter, an amendment to the foreign aid bill sponsored by Dick Clark extended the ban. (Clark Amendment) [111] The US administration resorted to other means of support for FNLA and UNITA of which one was raising mercenaries.

The CIA initiated a covert programme to recruit Brazilians and Europeans, mostly Portuguese and British, to fight in the north of Angola. Other ways of continued support for the FNLA and UNITA were through South Africa and other US client states such as Israel and Morocco.

i wont waste more of my time, i will just add that Israel helped south africa build its nuclear bombs at that time and tested them, France sold the Mirage 2000 jets south africa used just some months before the war started. Britain gave covert support, America provided valuable covert satellite help to south africa.

strategic military advice came from NATO to south africa covertly.

only foolish countires will publish details of covert military assistance on internet the way you foolish south africans think all things must be written on free internet.

You must be confusing me with your boyfriend Patriot. Show us which 70% Nigeria is building. All China is doing is giving you sheets of steel to weld together. Please don't try impress people with your so called 70%. The most complex parts of any warship are the electronics and engines. Is Nigeria installing any homegrown radar system? Is Nigeria installing any homegrown sonar system? Is Nigeria developing the weapons management and control software? Is Nigeria installing any homegrown engines? Did Nigeria do any of the computer simulations and scale model testing of this boat before production? etc etc etc. What indigenous components in this boat are 100% Nigerian? The pots and pans in the kitchen? All the real hard work was done by the Chinese. They just gave you sections to weld together and you came running here thinking it would impress people. I told you I'm not Patriot. Your country simply doesnt have (not yet) the experience and expertise to develop high end electronic packages used in missile technology and electronic monitoring such as radar. Its a simple fact, just face it.

And we're still waiting for you to show how Aradu can fire 8 Otomat missiles simultaneously at a Frigate like you claimed. Still waiting for you to show any technical document which states Aradu can fire more than 1 missile at a time. Still waiting for you to show proof of when last Nigeria went out to sea and fired any missile at any target. 1980? When? Umkhonto will blow your so called missiles out the sky. Assuming you still have any left, which i highly doubt.
