Politics / Re: $2.1 Billion Arms Money Is Biggest Propaganda Of 2015 by insideview: 8:00pm On Jan 13, 2016
A bit confused here

The arguments for and against are based on what "Sambo Said" purportedly, gleaned from various news media

What sambo says can only be taken as gospel truth from depositions during his trial proceedings.

Until then everything on here is conjecture.

Even the EFCC hasnt released any press statements that would define their position on the issues, all ascribed to them is hereasay gleaned from same news media

seems like faulty foundations to base arguments upon.

6. Bayelsa - Goodluck

18. Kebbi - Buhari
19. Borno - Buhari
20. Lagos - Buhari
21. Niger - Buhari
22. Ondo - Goodluck

33 Taraba - Buhari (small margin).
34 Yobe - Buhari
35. Zamfara - Buhari
36. Katsina - Buhari
37. FCT - DICEY....
As we can see Buhari has 20 states as against
Goodluck's 16 states and if considering that the larger
population of the electorates reside in the North and
Southwest it stands to reason that Buhari will be our
next president, but that is if the contest is going to be
free and fair.

Yes, his name was substituted but what about INEC? They witnessed the primaries and still towed the path of illegality by first giving Omehia certificate of return until the court right their wrong. Besides, iNEC confirmed the substitution.
There is a law opponents claim was breached as regards fayose eligibility, they are free to address this supposedly wrong anytime they deem fit whether before elections or after elections or even after swearing him in. I don't think such is illegal also unless the court will strike out their plea.
Am also not a lawyer but at times logical reasoning doesn't suggest adherence to the law.
If I am fayose u will by now be assembling the best of SANS the country can offer to plead my cause in the law court instead of assembling thugs to courts threatening judges therby trying to prevent the cause of justice.

Like I said.... my opinion. I leave judicial pronouncement for those trained in such matters.

And yes I expect Fayose has assembled his team. He has not peserved so far by being dull.

But that his ascension will not take place as scheduled, the main point of the whole plot, that one will not fly.

Legally Omehia was cleared in Rivers, contested and won. The court came back with a verdict, Amaechi should be governor not Omehia.

Each side of the divide can continue with this till infinity and that explains why we should allow the court to decide based on the laws of the land.

But Omehia was not the one who won the primaries. His name was illegally substituted by the party AFTER the primaries. There doesn't seem to have been any interpretation of law in that scenario. The courts only redressed an illegality. And in any case Ameachi instituted his case immediately after his substitution before the elections held. So the courts ruled on a pre election matter instituted BEFORE the elections proper.

I may be wrong. Not a lawyer. Just logical opinion.

Whatever happens though, the resort to judicial rascal it smacks of desperation, and on the appointed day Fayose will be sworn in. I expect fast and furious entertainment from Ado in the succeeding weeks.

What Ameachi seeks is not commendation but attention. All his pronouncements are targetted at attracting attention. Hence he will do and say any and everything to attract attention. What destroys people like this is not retribution but not recieving the attention they crave. Notice how ridiculous his conduct and utterances in public has become since he stooped recieving the attention of his intended tagets. He now dances skelewu on the streets. Fortunately, someone must have pointed this out to GEJ hence the silence from his angle.

And before anyone starts attacking me, kindly note that Ameachi's differences with Mr President have nothing to do with politics but personal ego and an unwillingness to accept changing realities. Throw in a touch of hubris and malignant narcissitic personality disorder and you get the full picture.

GEJ now understands that all he needs to do is ignore Ameachi and eventually he will self destruct. He seems to be right on track here. With any luck he should become a candidate for SS1 Governement curriculum in the not too distant future. At the rate he's digging.....

chukwudi44: The Gang Up Against Stella Oduah, By Ore Kingsley

Premium Times - 11 hours ago

Opinion

It is highly outrageous to buy two vehicles, any kind of vehicles for N255 million.  Yet, in saying this, let it be known that it is also outrageous for mainstream media to rely on reports of online media, which most of the time are laced with gossips and rumours, for serious aviation reports. Now that Nigerians are outraged about the exaggerated reports on the purchase of the vehicles, the facts of the matter have been eclipsed as the first report always finds a listening ear.

But it is good to deliberate on the motive behind the report and preceding reports before this last one. Princess Stella Oduah as Minister of Aviation has jolted the apple cart. In her strive to make desired changes in the sector, she has excavated the status quo. There are certain trends that have defined the aviation sector. There are always since 1999 those who use lopsided agreements and contracts to milk the aviation agencies. There are also those who use aviation related associations to sustain their lives and the aviation union executives rely on agency heads and succeeding ministers to make money in the sector.

Stella came and changed all that. These people were denied their source of material life by Stella and these are people behind the forces that coalesced against her.

It is said in the industry that two people before 2011 made noticeable changes in the sector. One was Peter Igbenedion who was the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) during the Abacha years. In retrospect also, kudos goes to Mrs. Kema Chikwe who was also the Minister of Aviation in the first tenure of Chief Obasanjo as Nigerian President. Story had it that she was pressured to leave, just as Stella is being pressured now and that when she was eased out, broom was used to sweep out her footsteps from her office. But when she left, the same people acknowledged and still acknowledge that before Stella, Kema Chikwe was the best performing Minister of Aviation since civilian rule in 1999.

When Oduah was appointed, there were three subsisting agreements that were controversial. One of them was Maevis which was managing the revenue of FAAN. FAAN said that the agreement was lopsided against the agency to the extent that the agency did not know how much accrued in its coffers as Maevis every month gave it a hand out, a situation where a principal is being handed over money by its contractor. The agreement, to the agency was obnoxious and it was eating its revenue and hampering development of the 22 airports under its management.

Three Ministers came when the agreement was enforced, including Felix Hyat who just witnessed its unveiling, Babatunde Omotoba who was there when FAAN workers started crying out against the agreement and alleged rip of FAAN by the agreement. He did nothing. Felicia Njeze came and smiled away few years later without doing anything about it. Stella came and did something. She revoked the agreement!

She was attacked with all kinds of arsenal, including media and court scud missiles. She remained unshaken. Other Ministers did not have the courage to do anything because of the Giant Eagle that facilitated the agreement and the agreement was aimed to rip off the agencies and empower some individuals.

Another agreement was the Pan Express agreement which gave the company the right to collect revenues from cargo and pay FAAN certain amount of revenue every month. That agreement was easily eased out because it did not come from the Big Eagle. Ironically that was the only decent agreement that was drawn not to strip FAAN its revenue; in fact, before the company started work, that source of cargo revenue for FAAN was in limbo, but it was done away quickly as soon as contrived agitation against it started.

Then the big masquerade of agreement which is still subsisting: the Bi Courtney concession agreement to build the domestic terminal in Lagos which initially was given for 12 years and was later extended controversially for 36 years without the expected approval of the Federal Executive Council, as Obasanjo recommended when the letter for the extension was presented to him by the then Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode. In the letter requesting for the extension, Obasanjo responded, “No.” That it should be taken to FEC for approval. The approval never took place and since then Bi Courtney has done everything possible to use the courts to get the extension and it remains at best controversial.

How did Oduah cross the way of Bi Courtney? The company realising that it did not have enough apron to park aircraft in MMA2, claimed that the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) belonged to it and pointed out a clause in the agreement that said no other domestic airport terminal should be built in Lagos without deferring to Bi Courtney. Oduah defiantly made it clear that GAT which she dismantled and rebuilt under one year, did not belong to Bi Courtney.

Then there was the AIC Limited which claimed that many years ago a portion of land meant for expansion of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos terminal was given to the company to build hospitality facility. But for years nothing was done at the portion land and recently with terror threats and the inevitable need to have another terminal at the Lagos airport, it became unrealistic to build such facility at that portion of land. Stella Oduah overruled that quest.

The highly placed, powerful people behind these companies have been injured by the Minister. But her purpose is obvious: that for the aviation industry to develop and progress there must be an end to these rip offs and that the assets that are meant for Nigerians should not be coveted by a few highly placed people at the expense of over 160 million Nigerians. The war has been drawn. Stella Oduah must go!

The Foot Soldiers

As stated earlier, the labour union leaders and some association executives rely on aviation agency heads to sustain their existence. A former Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) kept the Aviation Round Table (ART) leaders on a payroll. Other agencies like FAAN, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) give them contracts. But these contracts stopped when Oduah became the Minister. In protest, the attacks against her came in torrents to the extent that the President of ART, Captain Dele Ore at one time alleged that Oduah threatened to kill him. Some aspects of the media made a savoury of it.

Two major associations in the sector, the Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) have fought and won many wars, so they are feared in the industry. So their leaders became very powerful, so whenever they needed money they would call a press conference and attack one agency or another or the existing Minister. They would be placated, of course with “gifts” to keep them quiet for some time. This shameful trend has continued to this day.

That was why a wise former Director General of NCAA decided to keep the ATSSSAN president permanently in his payroll. He gave his wife a job in NCAA; bought him a car and many times a year sponsor him to overseas training with large estacode. He fully bought his loyalty. The same ATSSSAN president capitalised on the labour feuds with airlines and agencies to fix his other siblings at Aero Contractors and NAMA.

So the major problem of Oduah is that she left this group of people in the lurch. There is the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) whose officers are permanent because for over 12 years it never conducted elections. The Assistant Secretary General of the association, Mohammed Tukur has used that platform to sustain his life in the industry. He became a propagandist. This became apparent when he and others in AON fought against Arik Air in favour of Bi Courtney, when Arik Air insisted that it was not going to operate from MMA2, the new terminal built by Bi Courtney.

Curious people then were asking: Is AON fighting for the welfare of the airlines of that of Bi Courtney. Many journalists who were shocked by that shameful act did not write the story. Today, it has ceased to surprise anybody because the man is unpretentious that he is a paid propagandist. As he campaigned against Oduah today, he can campaign for her tomorrow.

Stella Oduah underestimated this force or she had pre-empted them. But she must have believed that she would win most of them over by her development strides. In under two years Oduah changed the face of many airports in the country. She rebuilt many and expanded others. She completed what remained of the Total Radar Coverage of Nigeria, provided the most sophisticated weather reading equipment for the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, and acquired low level wind shear equipment, the weather Doppler radar and low level wind shear alert system which have been installed in all the airports. These equipment ensure that accurate weather data are given to the pilots. Recently the Minister acquired modern equipment for the Accident Investigation Bureau that in less than one week after the Associated flight crash the preliminary report of the accident was out.

The Minister who is expected to be praised by these “activists” who presumably love the industry because they have spent most of their years there, have nothing now but derision for her. They described her remodelling of the airport terminals as mere paint work. They said she has not done anything in the industry and they have concentrated in characterizing her only legacy in the industry as “slippery tiles.”  But above all, and this is the critical point,  they also accuse her of  what they now characterise as “chopping” alone.

That is the crux of the matter: she “chops” alone. That is also the grouse the members of the National Assembly: the Minister of Aviation is “chopping” Alone. They believe that for awarding all these contracts for the remodelling of airport facilities that so much money must have accrued to her. Who will question that when it has always been the trend in Nigeria?

Oduah must have realised by now that many people who talk about development in the aviation industry are really not interested in development; they are interested in their pockets. And as she had closed all the doors against them to make money from “their industry” what does she want them to do? Clap for her for improving the airports. In fact, Captain Dele Ore in his anger and frustration, allegedly said she must go now; that the armoured car bought for her “will not save her.”  That was a veiled threat. That also showed how desperate they are!

There are two issues that must be pointed out. If Stella Oduah is removed it means the old, status quo which is anti-development has triumphed and it can be predicted that as the airport terminals where work is going on presently are, so they will remain for many years to come. It has happened in the past. If Oduah is left to do her job, this attack will continue but at the end Nigerians will have better airport facilities and improved air transport sector to show for her efforts.

Captain  Kingsley, an aviation consultant, sent in this article from Lagos.
http://premiumtimesng.com/opinion/146961-stella-oduah-must-punished-ore-kingsley.html

It would be a mistake by Mr President to dismiss Madam Ouduah. A heartening trend is that recent calumny campaigns have failed to yield desired results #okonjo, sec, dizieani. Hopefully that trend will continue in this case.

Dude, insult and uncouthness is all you have and tragic that those unsavoury qualities are not matched by any erudtion whatsoever or even adult pragmatism. Whatever you say in your layman ignorance, the central point remains that much more than Lagos spent can be used to build a power plant of the same capacity Oando delivered for N3.2 billion. Also, the fact someone else delivered cheaper is not proof of anything if we once again take the central point that many variable factors can skew cost considerably in any direction.

A person properly educated and in possession of a logical and analytical mind would know a detailed breakdown of cost is the only arbiter over the argument of contract inflation acceptable to reasonable people who wish to make informed and balanced decisions. Bringing cost per KM of road construction into issues only confirms, as usual, your hideous and near illiterate ignorance. Even my 5 year old kid knows that road construction cost can vary considerably. That you are happy to insult and slander others based on your own ignorance says a lot about you.

Unfortunately, that only happens in the movies

Tinapa is a fantastic idea, in some reality.

The reason it's not lived up to expectation is because of issues any good feasibility study would have pointed out 2 years before the groundbreaking ceremony.

Not all good ideas are workable. Would you drive a flying car?

Unfortunately, it was an investment decision camouflaged as development economics. That paradigm has been failing from the beginning of time.

bappahman: New PDP leadership

Firstly, its curious how many people equate internal realignments within the PDP with the scenario of a general election. The two are very different.

This "new PDP" faction has a curious character to its leadership.

Atiku has travelled this road before with results to show (not what he had hoped for)

Ameachi is of doubtful political capital to anyone.

The G5 govern states that electoral strategy dictate were never the incumbents' to win

Kwara state governor cannot even deliver his party in local elections (or maybe he tacitly conceded to APC). Besides his principal has questions regarding the demise of Societe Genrale Bank and looks likely to be engaged for the forseable future.

Startegically, they have showed their hand, and the cards i see do not look good. Trying to make the most of a bad situation i guess.

A point that gets overlooked is that state caucuses not loyal to thier respective renegade governors voted in the congresses (i stand to be corrected) and and such its fairly certain which "Faction" will be recognised by the electoral umpire.

Next week should be very interesting.

Maybe the whole point of the factionalisation is to set the grounds for decamping without consequence. (Cross carpet from a peaceful party and loose your position. But if the party is in crisis, then you're free to). I remains to be seen if the "walkout" will assume the toga of crisis.

I cant opine as to the political strenghth of most of the Governors, if this news is true, but Ameachi it seems is being invited to join not because of any percieved electoral value (its doubtful he can deliver Rivers to any party), but for financial clout.

GEJ was never under any illusions regarding 2015 being a smooth ride. It never is for first termers, and the establishment that will do all and every to maintain its relevance. Remember the six political parties in 2003?

Things do change, and GEJ may be voted out in 2015. Just doesnt seem very feasible in 2015. Nigeria is changing, definitely. Just hasnt changed that much IMHO. #GameOfThrones

Moreso, why do I get the idea, the notion of a "crisis" in the PDP seems to be ratcheting up. Perchance there is a delibrate plan to potray the party as being in crisis to pave way for elected officials on its platform to decamp without fear of retribution? #Just thinking.....

2. Patience Jonathan will never step another foot in Rivers State for the duration of their tenure. Even if the President in on an Offical Visit.

rhymz: Yoruba votes helped GEJ win which election? Why are Yoruba people so full of themselves and have this overbloated sense of political importance. Don't think because the SW controls the media, you can ram down outright lies down our throats as facts. If anything, the SW region was demystified by GEJ's election victory, he proved to them that with or with a total support from them, so long as he had the backings of the entire eastern region, the SW can either tag along or stay in opposition raanting while he, Jonathan wins that election. The SW showed its political strength and influence by putting in a total of 2.8 million votes, Lagos accounting for about 45% of the votes. Knowing how the population of Lagos is constituted it will be folly to attribute JEG's heavy victory there to the Yoruba people. Now facing the core Yoruba states, by calculations, their votes number was inconsequential to influence anything even though just like every other states the Presidency needed at least 25% votes from every state.
You guyz need to stop arrogating to yourself some fictitious importance in winning the elections for GEJ, any subregion should make noise about giving him the victory or putting him there, it is the SE, and they have continued to give him that same support regardless without using it as an object to arm twist or manipulate the presidency. The SW did the least in bringing JEG to Aso rock, that is the fact that a million propaganda can not change.

My younger sister (mum's last born) will tell mum to her face, "You are a witch" shocked Mum said I will show you who is a witch. A couple of weeks later, my sister's partner threw her out of the house with her child. O pari!!

Since I started my fire prayers, she is confused about me. She called me up one day and asked who I rely on. I told her that I rely on my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ grin

Search the web for NACRISSITIC PERSONALITY DISORDER. Seems like your mum has a malignant case of it. Probably something to do with her own childhood.

Whatever your grouse with GEJ, this is a good move. dont really care for the OccupyNigeria thing. People will always make noise when moved out of their comfort zone (anyone recall the League of Professionals when SLS was trying to clean up the banking sector?)

Bottom line is, the Subsidy was way past overdue, just as we all agree PHCN needed reorganization. The timing of the removal may be thoughtless but the basic premise is sound and thats enough for me.

Word of advice (my democratic 2 kobo)
Save money and scale back, the removal has come to stay. Labour, the House of Reps, and the fuel importers know the game they're playing and trust me its not about the ordinary man on the street, (ever hear of human shields)

I for one hopes GEJ doesn't blink. He should continue his restructuring of other sectors in the manner of PHCN and the downstream sector.

The best way to take bitter medicine is all at once.

Change will come. But sometimes, we must lead change where we want it to go.

On its face, this is an excellent policy. And as with all things human, there will be hiccups and teething problems.

All the rural folk will learn, as they have with the ATM cards, how to manage life without a Ghana Must Go bag. Robbery incidence will reduce, more difficult will be money laundering, and bla bla bla,

All those planning to bury money in their homes, good luck to you.

Initially, it will be difficult, very. but as time goes on, it should get easier. And if it proves too difficult to implement, there's alays the status quo to be returned to. Doesnt mean we cant try.

So, all things being equal, on the balance, this is an excellent policy & for what its worth, it has my support.
