Ksii: Can I receive Nilesat in the South-West region of Kenya,Kisii and Kericho to be exact? Good Morning Ksii, You can get a total of 690 channels on both Nilesat 201 and Eutelsat 7 West using either a 90 cm or 1.8 Meter prime-focus dish in either Kisii or Kericho,Kenya. A 1.2 meter would serve you better because of rain fade and cloud cover. You can get more assistance from RDI forum members located near your region. SES-4 (NSS 14) Update Brisk demand for SES-4 capacity (NSS 14) 02.03.2012 As per SES.COM The recently-launched SES-4 is already demonstrating the ongoing strong demand for our high-power state-of-the-art satellites. Leading broadcasters and communications solutions providers were prompt in letting us know that they are keen to take wing on our latest satellite as seen from the multiple deals our customers have signed with us. With the successful launch of this satellite on February 15, we now have 50 satellites in orbit – a milestone in SES’ history. Located at the 338 degrees East position, SES-4 is one of the most in-demand orbital locations for transatlantic traffic serving Africa, Europe and the Americas in both C- and Ku-band. This most powerful and largest satellite we have ever launched enables a full portfolio of services, including video distribution, government communication, VSAT and maritime services. With its expanded reach over West Africa, SES-4 quickly caught the eye of broadcasters keen to develop opportunities to reach new French-speaking audiences. At the head of the queue, CANAL+ has not only recently renewed its lease commitments to SES, it has acquired additional new capacity on SES-4 in order to extend its CANAL+ Overseas offering, including delivering HD programming. GlobeCast also has leased capacity on SES-4 to launch two new satellite broadcast platforms serving the sub-Saharan African region. And the list of customers for SES-4 just keeps growing. ICCES, a leading Saudi Arabia-based communications services provider and systems integrator, has chosen Ku-band capacity on SES-4 to help its customers extend their VSAT connectivity across Saudi Arabia, North Africa, Libya, Tunisia and other key territories. ICCES will provide high-speed broadband to corporate VPN services, linking companies, particularly those in the oil and gas sector, as well as government agencies, universities and homes within the Middle East and beyond. We are really excited by the enthusiasm our clients have demonstrated for SES-4. Equally, we are gratified by their ongoing loyalty, and their satisfaction with the business-enhancing capabilities of our leading-edge high-powered global fleet. 50 satellites and more to come. This can only mean the possibilities for our customers are endless. |

Siemybase: My TV secures DTH with Conax By Robert Briel March 7, 2012 10.58 Europe/London Conax hs announced that Nigeria-based pay-TV operator My TV is further extending its six-year relationship with Conax and has committed to deploying a Conax Chipset Pairing solution for its satellite platform. Implementation of Conax chipset pairing keys is intended to protect My TV’s revenue stream from content piracy and eliminating use of unapproved receiver models. Chipset Pairing creates an additional barrier to content theft ensuring defined content is only released to consumer devices supporting the chipset pairing key. The technology provides protection against Control Word distribution by offering a secured channel between smart card and chip – thus, content can only be viewed on secure and authorized devices With increased security for pay-TV content a necessity in sub-Sahara Africa, My TV is taking advantage of its upcoming Receiver Upgrade/Replacement campaign ahead of the planned migration to MPEG-4 compression, then DVB-S2 modulation of its current MPEG-2, DVB-S broadcasts, to introduce chipset pairing as a standard feature in both high definition and standard definition upgrade receiver models being offered as replacements for My TV subscribers’ existing receivers. “Conax has proven to be a wise choice of a Conditional Access System for the My TV service. Flexibility, responsiveness and great support having been the characteristics of My TV’s enjoyable relationship with Conax over the past six years, it was only natural to choose to grow that relationship and implement Conax’ chipset pairing solution on the path to a planned migration to Conax Contego, from the present CAS7, said Elie Abourrousse, CEO of My TV. “The migration to MPEG-4, DVB-S2 will enable My TV to add channels to its current bouquet, as well as add premium channels that will attract a subscription fee supplement. After a challenging six years in pay TV in sub-Sahara Africa, My TV feels confident about making the investment the migration processes require.” “According to Hans Kwaaitaal, VP strategic partner relations, Conax, “Conax recommends all operations using set-top-boxes deploy chipset pairing technology, by far the most secure solution for protecting content. Conax’ pioneering technology will provide My TV with an additional level of protection for pre-paid content revenues delivered to the consumer’s client device.” “My TV is part of what we believe to be a trend for African operators to move to chipset pairing solution, says Saad Mouneimne, director areas ME & Africa. In additional to a host of new features and functionality included in the planned upgrade to the Conax Contego content protection platform, we believe My TV’s decision to deploy pairing as a standard feature will enable the elimination of illicit receivers and enhance long-term content revenues.” |

Intelsat New Dawn debuts in Africa By Robert Briel March 2, 2012 09.07 Europe/London Intelsat is launching its New Dawn Ku-band Multi-Channel Per Carrier (MCPC) media platform for Africa. As part of the IntelsatONE terrestrial network, the platform provides a cost-effective solution for both regional and international programmers wishing to expand their distribution to cable and DTH services across sub-Saharan Africa. GlobeCast will provide ground and uplink services for the platform from its facility in Johannesburg, South Africa. Customers can contribute content to the platform from anywhere in the world, either via Intelsat’s global satellite fleet and the IntelsatONE network, or through the five-continent GlobeCast backbone network. The Intelsat New Dawn MCPC media platform is Intelsat’s fourth Ku-band MCPC platform on the IntelsatONE network, bringing to 16 the total number of Intelsat MCPC platforms. The platform is based on DVB-S2 modulation and MPEG-4 compression technology, and can be received with sub-1 meter antennas in much of its coverage area. “One of the most exciting things about this new platform is that our broadcast customers can now uplink directly from Africa to a prime position for the DTH market in our region of the world,” said Alan Hird, CEO of GlobeCast Africa, in a statement. “With our global satellite capacities and fiber network, the content can easily come from anywhere worldwide to GlobeCast’s facility in Johannesburg. We expect this to quickly become a key neighbourhood for broadcasters in Africa.” “The new Intelsat New Dawn MCPC platform offers programmers in Africa and throughout the world complete end-to-end solutions for delivering content to their affiliates and consumers in sub-Saharan Africa,” said Jon Osler, Intelsat’s managing director for Africa. “The addition of this platform supports entry for new channel carriers and adds to our global portfolio of content distribution solutions.” |

End of piracy Le bouquet de Canal + package on BAdr 5, Maghreb footprint. 11.16 Europe/London, February 2, 2012 By Robert Briel Le bouquet de Canal + package Maghreb has stopped broadcasting on the Arabsat satellite (BADR 5) claiming piracy as the reason. About a year ago, Canal+ CEO Bertrand Meheut said the Canal+ Maghreb service would cease operations because of widespread piracy in the target markets Algeria and Morocco. Canal+ made the decision to stop marketing its prepaid cards in the two countries, but would honour all cards out in the market. On January 31 the validity of all these card expired, so Canal+ could switch off all broadcasts from BADR 5 satellite. Canal+ Maghreb began broadcasting in February 2009. The offer consisted of 25 channels using V**ccess encryption. |

A New Year’s Prayer May God make your year a happy one! Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain, But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes; Not by making your path easy, But by making you sturdy to travel any path; Not by taking hardships from you, But by taking fear from your heart; Not by granting you unbroken sunshine, But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows; Not by making your life always pleasant, But by showing you when people and their causes need you most, and by making you anxious to be there to help. Just finished putting the last touch on the Christmas Tree, ![]() Off to give Santa a push, ![]() He got stuck in this part of the world will on transit from the North pole, As we celebrate Christmas, let us not forget the true Meaning of Christmas, The true meaning of Christmas is love. John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him." The true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of this incredible act of love. The real Christmas story is the story of God's becoming a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ. Why did God do such a thing? Because He loves us! Why was Christmas necessary? Because we needed a Savior! Why does God love us so much? Because He is love itself (1 John 4:8 ). Why do we celebrate Christmas each year? Out of gratitude for what God did for us, we remember His birth by giving each other gifts, worshiping Him, and being especially conscious of the poor and less fortunate. The true meaning of Christmas is love. God loved His own and provided a way—the only Way—for us to spend eternity with Him. He gave His only Son to take our punishment for our sins. He paid the price in full, and we are free from condemnation when we accept that free gift of love. "But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8 ). Blessed Christmas all, ![]() |

salamander: Good Afternoon salamander, I surely think that I Hacked got both Nilesat 201 and Atlantic bird 7 on his 90 cm motorized offset dish. One factor to consider in fringe satellite reception is is that footprint and satellite signal strength of different transponders vary in different locations. On one of the pictures posted by I hacked, you will note frequency 11977 V 27500, As per Lyngsat or Flysat the frequency is on Nilesat 201, http://www.lyngsat.com/nile201.html ![]() From the channel list you will note Bloomberg TV channel is on that list under frequency 11977 V sr 27500, From I Hacked pics you will note Bloomberg channel is displayed on one of the phots even though no video is displayed , ![]() ![]() Two important points to note from his post, is that the transponders with the highest signal strength in his region on Nilesat are:, Nilesat 201 ------ 11977 V 27500 DVB-S Atlantic bird 7 ----- 11277 V 27500 DVB-S2 |

George_D: ![]() Paris, 31 October 2011 Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) and MBC Group announce the signature of a multiyear contract for capacity on Eutelsat’s new ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 satellite at 7 degrees West. The lease of a full transponder will enable MBC to expand its platform of channels addressing viewers in the Middle East and North Africa, particularly new HD content which the Group is preparing to launch in January 2012. The announcement was made at Digital TV Middle East, the broadcast and broadband conference taking place in Dubai from November 1 to 2. The new contract cements a 20-year relationship between Eutelsat and MBC Group which began in 1991 with the launch of MBC1, the first pan-Arab free-to-air satellite station. Over the past 18 years, MBC has developed a network comprising ten TV channels, two radio stations and a production house to forge a leading media and broadcasting group in the Middle East, among other media platforms such as VOD (shahid.net), SMS and MMS services. The move into HDTV reflects the Group's commitment to delivering the latest technology and superior television content. Launched on September 24, ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 brings first-class resources to 7 degrees West, an established video neighbourhood delivering Arab and international channels into almost 30 million satellite homes. The satellite’s significant Ku-band resources enable broadcasters to launch new Standard Digital and HD content. Its broad footprint expands reach of satellite TV homes located from the North African Atlantic coastline across to the Gulf States. Commenting on the new contract, MBC Group’s COO Sam Barnett said: “We are enthusiastic about this additional capacity on the ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 satellite that will allow us to further expand in the , ure and meet the expectations of our loyal viewers across the MENA region”. Andrew Wallace, Eutelsat Chief Commercial Officer, added: “With MBC Group’s selection of ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 as their chosen platform to move into HDTV we are even more excited about the potential of our new satellite to partner broadcasters in the Middle East and North Africa. This is a great start for ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 and we look forward to furthering our longstanding presence and strong partnerships across the region and playing our part in the ongoing roll-out of HDTV”. Eutelsat’s ATLANTIC BIRD™ 7 satellite has replaced ATLANTIC BIRD™ 4A at 7 degrees West. The transfer of 400 TV channels onto the new satellite took place on October 23. |

obnelly: ood Morning obnelly, From my experience on fringe satellite reception, i have noted that an offset dish of same size to Prime focus will out perform the prime focus dish on Ku band. When initially i tried to get nilesat 104 ( Atlantic 4A ) on a 2.4 meter prime focus dish, i could only pull in 4 transponders from the lower band. Once i upgraded to a 2.4 meter offset dish, i pulled in 25 transponders. ![]() Point to note from the reception reports on Atlantic 7 sat in Europe, is that the type of satellite dish used is Offset. |
