....mehn some F1 applicats can really make things difficult for themselves sha. Imagine one girl goin for mba at abuja embassy and vo at window 8 asked wat will you do with MBa since u read physcology at udergraduate level. THe girl said "ill come back to nigeria". vo asked again and girl said same thing. vo asked "come back to nigeria to do what ?" girl was like "come back to nigeria to work na"... can u imagine and the vo was still like work were?, at ur former place of work?" girl said yes. At that point i new rejection was eminent cos this girl had no clear career goals or at least shes not showing sings of desire for career advancement. Why would u leave your job and spend millions to go study masters only to come back to the same job. It dosn't make sense and the vo thinks like that.

And please know the courses you will be taking in your program. All the vos were askin and it seem to be the only way they use to gauge if ur genuine or not cos they not even checking academic records or test scores. Even a girl who was goin for visit for B1/B2 was asked wat courses she will be taking in her program in the UK cos she told them she will be resuming to scool in UK in january and only wanted to visit the US for 2weeks befor she departs for shool in the UK...

Abuja VOs are fairly nice. They give you time to present your case and even when u are floppin they still give u a chance to redeem yourself( or should i say a chance to flopp some more, as many F1 students keep doin). But window 9 guy, please avoid him cos dat guy e be like say na fbi or cia,.. because if na only one school you apply to sef.. e fit bouce u on dat grounds alone ... he will just recite his visa rejection anthem... "... you know, US imigration laws are very strict now.. bla bla bla please read cearfully the info on this white paper it will explain to u better why im refusing you"....

please let prepare well... i think this interveiwe is not as difficult as it seems

mckenziiii: @ yvete. I chose ms in intl econs n finance cos globalizatn is rapidly changing d scope n nature of intl bizness n trade n bizness sucess is highly dependant on d ability to understnd n respond to economic issues n forces n wit d study of intl eco n finance I wuld b able to apply d economic principles of theoretical n analytical in d economic, financial cultural n managerial aspect of global biz n commerce,I no say e too long pls edit edit edit n respond

this is a lotta story, I think your answer should focus more on how this course will benefit you,... this is the formular i put at the back of my mind:

Why this course? = What will this course do for you?/what will you do with this cousrse?/how will this course help in advancing your career?

So a good answer might be ... I chose msc int. econs n finance becos this program will focus on bla bla bla and i will be able to gain advanced knowlege/expertise in bla bla bla which will equip me to take on techincal position in so so so orginization/industry were i can function in bla bla.. ...

this is the main point. You can now begin to add these other grammar about how globalization is rapidly changing and stuff( that is if vo dosnt cut in already
). It is important that you state clearly how this program will benefit you cos u are investing your funds to go study.

FIZIK: Thanks for this great thread. It has been extremely insightful.
Does anyone know how to convert the new GRE to the old scale.
My schools requirement is in the ols scale, but i scored 149 on both quantitative and verbal with essay as 3.5.
Contributiion will be appreciated
You have an equivalent of 610 in quats and a 440 in your verbal. That's a 1050 combined score... Search on google for gre concodance table..

Pls is it possible 4 me to print out my GRE result excluding the score recipients(i.e history of schools i sent my gre result to) i'm trying to aviod it cos it may call 4 further questioning which i don't want.

s-beauty :

Oh really, you mean I can go ahead to get an appointment date(interview date) before my i-20 gets here and afterwards I can edit my info ? Bt wht will I fill in when it requests for school info, sevis number n all dt..
Thanks would b waiting for ur reply!

U need to have your sevis info to schedule an appointment. You can't edit school info on appointmentportal after u schedule. So even if u book now with generic sevis no. You will still hav to cancel appointment wen you get ur unic sevis I'd.. What u can do is ask school to send you ur sevis info by email, I.e assuming they've issued ur i20, cos many schools won't send you scan copy

@Mystiqme
Does having a second class lower have any effect on the VO decision during interview?.

And is it safe to tell vo that I have 2 or 3 admits, when I actually have just 1. because there are 6schools on mygre score report were I requested my score sent to. Vo might think I applied to all 6 even though I actually applied to 3 schools. And I don't think 1 admit out of 6applications is a good thing to tell VO.

Hi all,
Ive been following this thread for more than a year now and i have read through all the post in this thread and the previous ones. This is my first post on this thread.

Now I am a spring 2013 applicant. Im going to a university in the state of Missouri and Im goin to study Masters in biology/biological sciences(that's what on my I20). I was wondering if anyone is also going to the embassy with Msc Biology/Biological sciences. Let us rob minds on how to tackle this F1 interview.

I havn't seen many interview experience on this thread for students going to study biology/biological sciences(except for one or two). most that ive seen are either msc enginering or mba or MPH or computer science/IT.

If you have a background in microbiology or a related discipline in biological sciences like i do and are going to do msc biology in spring, I have a few questions that im trying to rap my head around.

1. why do you want to study in the United States, why not Else Where or even Here in Nigera?...

2. Why this university?
.... i need to be able to defend this school well, because the school im goin to is not a very big school( aprox 12k enrolment). But i applied there cos i was pretty sure i would get accepted as my undergrad gpa wasn't very impressive, 3.41/5.

3.How many schools you applied to?. How may admits?..... I only have 1 admit for now out of the 3 schools i applied to. On my gre score card, there are 6 schools. I never applied to the rest 3. I just sent out scores to them. I hope VO wont think i applied to 6 schools and only got 1 admit.

4.Why msc biology ?( question could also come as "what would this degree do for you?" Quite frankly, i think this is what they mean when they ask you "why this course". Ive come to realize that its not about the passion you have about the course that matters, at least for the purpose of this interview. what you need to do is to explain how you intend to make a good career out of this program - forget passion for now.)

3.what have you been doing since you graduated in 2008 ?

4. did you take gre?.... my gre score was 150 Quants and 153 verbal.. which is just average.. i wish i coulda done better, but the gre revised was harder than i expected.

I cant stop thinking about these question and a few others. Ive guided a number of pple for admission and visa application. Now its time for me to go to the embassy and i feel a bit anxious. I guess this thing is easier said than done. Maybe its because of the course im going to study (Msc Biology), but i needed to get something related to my undergraduate degree, in order to show academic progression.

Please house, we need to be more active on this tread... there hasn't been much post lately by spring applicants. Anyone gotten his F1 yet ?.. please post your interview experience. lets all know the latest happenings at US embassy.

..Hi all, I'm new on this thread.. I've almost read every single page on this thread and its been such an eye opener for me. I used to think getting the canadiam study permit is virtually impossible and as such i decided to look else where for post graduate studies.. After all even getting admission for masters is kinda impossible with a 2.2 undergraduate degree. Hence my candadiam dream died.. But now I'm reading throught this thread and I discoverd dat its not a must that one go for a master program. I cld also apply for a PGD and get accepted.

@Fhemmmy
.. I noticed most canadian colleges don't have PGD but rather dey have wat dey call an advanced diploma.. If I applied for such a diploma can I safely apply to d canadian embassy with a diploma program.. I have a Bsc in microbiology.. I. Know dat most embassies prefer to see student visa applications showing academic progression.. E.g u have a Bsc and you are applyin to go do a masters programm. But a case were u have a Bsc and u now applying to go do an advanced diploma, which I don't think is exactly a postgradute programe. What do you think.. Won't d CDHC frown at this kind off application?
