THE Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has proposed to spend N759.96 billion, representing 45 per cent of the state’s 2023 Appropriation bill, on personnel cost, overhead and debt services.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on Thursday when he presented the N1.693 trillion 2023 Appropriation bill to the House of Assembly.

According to a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, the fiscal proposal, tagged, ‘Budget of Continuity’, has a capital expenditure of N932.7 billion, representing 55 per cent of the 2023 budget. The recurrent expenditure, which includes personnel cost, overhead and debt services, is N759.96 billion, representing 45 per cent.

The governor proposed a N153.5 billion allocation to education next year, representing 9.07 per cent of the total budget estimates, “in order to consolidate the gains of the past years in the sector.”

Sanwo-Olu attributed the vote for education to the “achievement of a record high performance of 82 per cent in the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).”

He pledged to sustain strategic investment in human capital and channel resources to deliver more infrastructure to keep the state’s economy on the path of growth beyond next year.

Money laundering: ”Man is not God”- Labour's party Doyin Okupe writes after paying N13m fine to escape 2-year jail term

A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe, has paid the N13 million fine slammed on him on Monday, December 19, by a Federal High Court in Abuja after he was found guilty of receiving over N200m cash from a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd).


In the judgment delivered by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, the trial court held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, successfully established its case against Okupe, that evidence before it established that he had in the discharge of his official duties, accepted cash payments that were above the statutory threshold, without recourse to a financial institution.

The role of the Nigerian youth in the emergence of a new Nigeria is an impeccable and pertinent one as regard the formation and emergence of a new Nigeria. As a matter of fact, 70% of the burden towards the realization of this agenda “ New Nigeria”, rest on the shoulders of the Nigerian youth. According to research carried out by some scholars, it was estimated that the total number of Nigerian youth is close to 70 % of the total population of the country which is estimated to be around 206 million. If this is true , going by the 70% estimation of the Nigerian youth, it means that the Number of the Nigerian youth estimates to a total of 144.2 million, which is a whopping number. Going by this estimation it means that 7 out of every 10 Nigerian, is a youth. This is a pointer to the fact that the youth are the ones who bear the most of the positivity and negativity of Nigeria as a nation. However, the quest towards the realization of a New Nigeria is a pointer that there is little or not positive impact of the current state of Nigeria as a nation on her youth, rather it has been the other way round.
Being the most populous age group in the country, their role towards the emergence of a New Nigeria is very germane, one which cannot be substituted or played by any other age group in the country. However, before delving into the roles of the youth as regard the emergence of a new Nigeria, there is need to understand the term “New Nigeria”.

A New Nigeria would mean a Nigeria where respect for ethical codes is at the heart of every activity, a Nigeria where moral codes like Honesty, integrity, transparency, diligence, faithfulness to responsibilities and so on is valued upheld, cherished and respected.

A new Nigeria would mean a Nigeria where those in government who are representative of the people, truly represent the people, caring for them and also performing the duties expected of them as leaders who are expected to lead by example, following and honouring the dictates, duties and responsibilities attached to the various representative post they occupy.

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson have broken up and decided to just be friends, sources close to the couple exclusively tell E! News.

Kardashians star and Pete Davidson , went public as a couple nine months ago after she made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live, where he was then a cast member.
However a source has informed DailyMail.com that the couple split up this week over their demanding schedules and the long distance.

An insider has now explained to E! News: ‘They have a lot of love and respect for each other, but found that the long distance and their demanding schedules made it really difficult to maintain a relationship.’

Pete has been spending part of the summer in Australia working on the movie Wizards!. As for Kim, she continues to raise four kids—North, Psalm, Chicago and Saint, with her ex Kanye West.

“The divorce is moving ahead with Kanye,” another insider shares with E! News. “They are happily co-parenting.”

Back in November, a source confirmed to E! News that Pete and Kim were officially dating. Popular Nigerian singer Davido, has finally brought the face of his fourth child with UK-based makeup artist Larissa London out.
Davido attended a church service with Dawson in London today, August 7.

This will be the first time he will be seen in public with his two-year-old son, Dawson.
There have been speculations that he’s Dawson’s father, but unlike his other children, he has never acknowledged the boy on social media.

The mother of the child was however not spotted in the video.

Dαvido has four children; Imade, Hailey, Ifeanyi and Dawson from four different women.

Danish humanitarian worker, Anja Ringgren Lovén and her team have rescued a young boy who was accused of being a witch in Akwa Ibom.

According to Lovén, the boy named Joseph was being tortured to reveal what he wasn’t, and it was a deeply emotional situation when they learned of the distressing condition.

She wrote; “It’s been a very emotional and busy month at Land of Hope. We have rescued 3 children and I have only introduced you to Samuel and Mighty,”

The third child that was rescued is Joseph. He was accused of being a witch. He was accused of inflicting his grandmother with sickness while killing his late mother when he was 6 years old.

David Emmanuel Umem and Nsidibe Orok were alerted about the case and found Joseph in a distress condition.

He has been in severe emotional and physical torture for years in the family house. He was never allowed to go to school due to the stigma. The community claimed that he could initiate other children to the witchcraft coven

The case is under investigation. Joseph has been at Land of Hope for 6 weeks and has changed so much from being very depressed to feeling joy and happiness looking forward to start school after the summer break

With Samuel, Mighty and Joseph we now have 88 children at Land of Hope. We really need all the support we can get now.”

A 19-year-old lady identified as Precious Agbokhade was raped and brutally stabbed to death at her home in Edo State.

It was gathered that the young lady was the only one home when she was attacked, as her family had left for church.

 A close source who confirmed Precious’s death said the incident happened on Sunday, July 17, at her residence in Agenebode, Edo State.

She had been stabbed multiple times in various parts of her body when her family found her after they got home from church on Sunday.

They also noted that blood stains were found all around her room.

Friends have trooped to social media to mourn the demise of the 19-year-old. A Facebook user, Jospeh Daniel, wrote, “Can’t believe you are no more dear. RIP. “

A heartbreaking video making the rounds online showed the mother of the deceased crying profusely as she sat on the floor by her daughter’s corpse.
