I used my Gtb card to buy some things on amazon which I will get today but I bought them two days ago. I think the restrictions was only limited to ATM withdrawal, since I can shop online

Thank you dannybrown19, I just want to know about the ATM withdrawal. Using the card online to buy stuffs won't pay some of my expenses here. How successful is wire transfer to University account now using GTB? Do you know anybody who did that while outside Nigeria?

Thank you for the information given earlier smiley

dahfweshdude69: sorry for posting my travel experience this late. i've been busy exploring my school.
I left lagos on the 25th of july via emirates around 8;50pm. It was very interesting(my first time in a plane), i sat beside the window and got scared at first but later summoned up the courage to look outside. I got to dubai in the morning and i decided to walk round the airport .It was magnificent, compared to mma, it looked like paradise. I met a married couple who were also going to texas, we took pictures together and they were very friendly, they also bought food for me. We left dubai that same morning for texas and the journey was very long and boring. The peeps beside me missed their flight so i was alone. You will be given an immigration form where you must declare everything you have on you once you are on board and en route the united states. We got to houston in the afternoon by 4pm and went straight to claim my luggage, on getting there, emirates forgot my smaller box which contained just food stuffs at dubai, ijust had to go through immigration like that. The immigration line was just 2 long and while waiting i spoke with a dude whose connecting flight will take off by 5:45pm and we were still far behind and that was around 5:15pm. Cut long story short,he missed his flight(if you are booking a connecting flight, make sure you leave at least 4hrs interval between your arrival time and time your connecting flight will take off). It finally got to my turn and i was interviewed by a chinese dude. He took my finger print(both left and right hand), eye scanning stuff then he asked for my passport and placed my passport in a machine to verify if it was authentic. He went through it and asked for my i-20,admission letter and sevis receipt paper. He looked at it for some secs and asked me how i got to know about the school and why i picked it .I told him ets recommended the school to me after my toefl result came out and after searching about the school, i decided to apply and i was given admission. He then stamped my passport and showed me a place in my i20 that i should tell head of international department to sign once i get to school. Going through customs wasn't hard, just took off my belt, shoe and wristwatch, passed through a body scanner and was told to go and bigger box and handbag were also scanned. Saw my aunt waiting for me already. I left texas on the 28 of july for Oklahoma and my school official was waiting for me at the airport. I got to my school, registered and enrolled for classes, got my id card and was told i won't be needing a placement test, i had a good SAT score(advantage of taking SAT exam even though it wasn't needed for admission). Enjoying life in oklahoma!

Am not really a good writer, it may be boring but please pardon me. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Nice transcript there!
Did they ask for your ticket to Oklahoma at POE in Houston? I just need to know. Coz I intend to get to Atlanta first on Monday before going to Florida (my school) on Thursday? Will Hv my POE in New York City(JFK).
Thanks for your prompt response in advance

Dude, not sure if you've looked into bus route from Atlanta to gainsville Fl. It's about five hours ride on the greyhound bus and it cost less than fifty bucks.

Ok bro, I will reason that too. Thanks. Just that I might not want to sit for 5hrs again after the 12hrs:30mins flight to Atlanta.

Will look into that anyway

Thanks Friend

My brother na see we see am ooo..
Its peak perio right now so flight fares will be of the roof.

When are you expected to report to school?
the farther ahead you book and pay, the cheaper it may be.
I booked with Qatar with about 1month before departure and paid 201k to Miami. I have two stop overs in Doha and London heathrow...Plz don't ask about the wait times in between. it's the price I have to pay so I'm ready.

Oboi, you get mind ooo. Your journey go be like 50hrs oooo. Anywayz the deal is what matters.

One question please, did you get a transit visa to pass thru London to Miami?

Need to know please coz I'm heading towards that direction too. Gainesville to be precise and might want to travel thru Miami route. What I'm seeing now is from 400k upward ooo. One na even 700k and it's Economy class oo. Wetin business class go cone be o.

Please I need your response bro

Yeah, you could book at the ATL airport when you get there. You might even opt for the early morning flight. Its always kinds cheaper. I paid for my connecting flight from IAD to LIT from Nigeria but I missed the flight. I ended up paying another airfare the next morning but they waived my baggage fees.

An alternative is to book the connecting flight for the next morning. Make sure you have at least 5hours to clear customs and immigration. Then you'll be fine. Its peak period and prices might be high for OTC booking

Thank you very much. I guessed right and also wanted to be sure. Hv experienced missing a flight before from London to Nigeria, it was painful, paid extra £245 to still secure my seat for the third day not even for the next day.

Thanks dear and see u at the top.

Thanks baba. I am really confused here as two people already advised to attend the F1 visa alone because if the whole family go at once then home ties is questionable. I already included them in the I-20 (thanks)

Go on with your plan bro. I have a colleague whose visa was approved with his baby boy and wife. Although he's going first then the wife and kid will join him latter.

All the best bro

Nope, you don't need a transit visa if you're flying through Holland. Nobody is going to ask for it or disturb you. You're not going to leave the airport anyways.

Yeah, you can sleep at the airport in ATL. Make sure you time yourself and don't miss your connecting flight to Gainesville. Have a safe trip.

Thank you very much MsNas, I'm planning to book my flight to Gainesville when I get to Atlanta. Direct flight is too expensive so wanna break it, still it's over #400k but still prefer it to paying the huge direct flight for 650k upward. Also opting for the breaking in booking incase there's a delay during departure.. so I won't miss the already paid flight from Atlanta to Gainesville.

I know it's peak period so I don't have option.

Or what do you think MsNas?

Thanks.
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by Mjseun(m): 3:26pm On Aug 03, 2014
Please is it compulsory to get a transit visa while going to Atlanta via Amsterdam (klm for you). Is it also okay to sleep in an hotel in Atlanta till the following day and take off the following day to Gainesville as that's my destination and my supervisor with other lab member need to welcome me and pick me up from the Airport during the day.

Please I need response as soon as possible.

Thanks

Saw this on US embassy website this morning and read thus:
The Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs is currently experiencing technical problems with our visa system.  We are operating at a significantly reduced capacity and will be until we clear the document backlog.
This issue is worldwide and is not specific to any particular country, citizenship document, or visa category.
We are working urgently to correct the problem and expect our system to be fully operational again soon.  We will be posting updates to Travel.State.Gov as more information becomes available.
The U.S. Department of State is currently experiencing technical problems with its visa system, which are affecting global operations.  This issue is worldwide and is not specific to any particular country or visa category.  We recognize and deeply regret the inconvenience to travelers.  We are doing everything possible to return passports with visas as soon as we are able to complete processing.  We regret that we are currently unable to predict how long the delay will be.

Applicants who interviewed with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate after July 21 and would like their passports returned to them without the U.S. visa may contact the call center at  014406295 or by email at support-nigeria@ustraveldocs.com with their name and passport number.

Applicants who have an urgent need to travel to the United States may contact the call center at 014406295 or by email at support-nigeria@ustraveldocs.com with their name, passport number, and nature of the emergency.  Please understand that only true emergencies of an extraordinary humanitarian nature can be considered for exceptional handling.

I had my interview that same day at the bolded and I was actually thinking of cancelling it for later day. Thank you Jesus I didn't listen to the thought.

As for you still waiting for your visa to be issued God will touch the system on time and it will begin work perfectly in Jesus name.
