Thanks, I tried doing this in my CSCS account, but got nothing. Do you just double-click on the stock under the "Security Column" of the CSCS listing?

Yes by clicking the stock under the security column you see details of the buy and sell prices. If you have bought or sold anything before last week you should be able to see the prices. I have not been able to see the prices of last week's trades though.

Note: my previous post is corrected (I omited NOT by typo, which is now corrected.)

Folks,

I am just curious about brokers' buying and selling prices. Is there any way one can validate a broker's claimed selling or buying prices. It just occurred to me that one might also be short-changed on orders, despite the broker's commission,

The way I use is by consulting my CSCS account on-line. It shows the buying or selling price and this can be compared to the contract notes from the broker. I do not have trade alert but I guess this should also state the price. Lately, CSCS on-line has not displayed the buying and sell prices, I want to believe that it is due to system overload which wil soon be corrected.

With 140K units, you will get 63% with the supplementary allotment.

Congrats on your returned money and certificate for Access, did you write your CSCS number on your application form, if yes why are they issuing certificates? I understand from my broker that Wema Registrars will post less than 50k units applicants with or without letter of authority for collection. Can you help confirm any of these?

You have to register on this website http://www.armdiscoveryfund.com/ using your IVxxxxxxx number provided by ARM on your receipt of payment, there is also on-line activation instruction on this receipt. Your account will be activated after few dyas/week and then you can start to track your investment. You can also contact your ARM officer to help speed up the activation of your on-line access. note that I gave you the discovery fund webpage but you can still use it for the aggressive fund.

Gurus in the house,

I registered with the CSCS and made the required payment. Eventually, I got the email below requesting that I logon to register my account for activation. I got to the site and found out that this would require some information (Username, Password and User Code) that were not provided by CSCS. All efforts made toward contacting them for explanations on this have been futile, as they have refused to reply my mails. I also tried to trick the site by re-registering afresh but wasn't successful.

Any hints on this would be highly appreciated.

You are suppose to register on-line on CSCS website providing a user name, password, your CHN number etc before you proceed to make payment for your subscription. As you have not done this step, CSCS is reminding to provide these information for them to activate your account, having confirmed your payment.
The steps to CSCS on-line registration is very clear on the website. Please endeavor to read the proceedure of anything you want to do before you plunge. Just go to www.CSCSnigerialtd.com and click on Register (in the window for Guest) and you can put the information required : most important is that you are to choose your own user name and password.

The Zenith offer is almost at hand and I have not received my Right Circular.  I will be damed if I miss out on my rights Offer.  I know someone suggested visiting Zenith Registrar, but I am outside Nigeria.  Please Nairalanders,  any suggestions, ideas?
Please could some upload a copy for the benefit those in my predicament.  I have sent an email to Zenith but can't count on miracles at this time.
I know if I don't get help here, there is no help elsewhere.

@hardmoney,
You visit Zenith bank website and go to the on-line offer subscription facility to apply on-line, if you know your account number with the zenith registrar, it makes it simple. Fill the form and download it for signature. You can pay on-line if you want or send the signed form to zenithbank branch with your cheque before 17th. here is the link
https://shares.zenithbank.com/zenithbankoffer/

Alternative is to contact your stockbroker to pick up the form on your behalf ASAP, you can then liase with him/her for processing.

Btw, why do you wait till this time?

I buy them because every other person buys them!
Just as you said, I lock up the certificates and those that are not delivered, i don't care about.
I hope I'll wake up to them some day though.
@ yimiton,
Please WAKE UP NOW. It will do you good if you at least recover all your certificates and lodged them in CSCS even if you are not trading in them. I am sure you will be happy to see how far your investment is generating money for you. You will also have peace of mind that fire or robbery will not affect your investment.
If you do not monitor your holdings (even by keeping ear on the ground about the companies you have shares) and you are not yet awake, by the time you wake up, the paper certificates you have been keeping will just be paper worth not even 50 kobo if the companies you have holdings liquidate.

Please no intended offence if the tone is high for you.

GMG:

@oore

Thanks for the advice. Please what does cscs account me? Please pardon my ignorance on the subject. Another question is, if I have shares with more than one stockbrokers, do I need to have two cscs account and finally, how long does it take to convert certificate into electronic one.

Thanks in advance for the reply

@ GMG,
CSCS account - CSCS is the central body that keeps share certificates of all companies quoted on Nigerian stock exchange. It transforms your paper certificate into paperless form. When this is done you have an account with them showing you the details of your lodgement. The CSCS account can be liken to taking your money to the bank to keep while they issue you monthly statement or viewing it on-line. for further details on definition of CSCS and anything about CSCS you can visit www.cscsnigerialtd.com. Note that an account can be created for you only if you go through a registered stockbroker of NSE.
For multiple accounts, you also get more info. on the cscs website. There is CHN and investor's account number, I will advise that if you intend to use more than one stockbroker, try to keep only one CHN (clearing house number) while the investor's account number will be issued for each stockbroker.
Pls take time to get more info. on the CSCS website. It will do you good.

Conversion of your certificate to electronic one varies from one company registrars to another and how efficient your stockbroker can follow up with the registrar of the company you own shares. Your personal responsibilities on this conversion is to ensure your address and signature are consistent with those in buying the shares with during the public offer. It could take two weeks or months

Obalende:

How long does it take after the execution of transactions before it appears in an investors cscs accout? 24hrs, 48hrs

Thanks.

@Obalende and All
I beg to disagree with the T+3 day for transaction to be reflected on the investors account. Theoretically, this is what is written. However, I know that whenever a transaction takes place on your account, it is reflected in less than 24Hrs as a pending action. You can see this if you have on-line access. It will be finally consumated in T+3 days. so APPEARANCE on investor's account is almost immediately that day but you will see it next day - The computer experts can explain the delay to see it.

Certifcate verification varies from broker to broker as well as the company to company shares. If the shares have been listed on NSE it could reduce to less than 2 weeks with efficient broker and good company registrar provided you do not have irregular signature or personal data.
Business / Re: Why Do You Buy Stocks? by oore(m): 11:29am On Jan 05, 2008
@ topic,

My first impression of buying stocks some years ago was basically as an investment for the future - especially for retirement purpose. This seems to be what is on many peoples mind whenever they are buying public offers and as such they are never worried about lodging their certificates into the CSCS for trading/safe keeping. They just believe that when the time comes they can sell the certificate for money or just collecting the dividend.
Recently, i have another school of thought. The need to be financially independent even at retirement, makes me to get more involved on happenings on NSE.

I have concluded that the first school of thought is half complete. It is better to invest for the future (long term) while watching over your investments to maximise the returns that comes out of it. Let your money work for you and the returns obtained from it also yielding more money - Get involved.

GMG:

does any have a better suggestion on what to do if a relative bought the shares on your behalf ( Currently living outside the country). I have no clue as to what to do with the shares I have.

Please a valuable advice will be appreciated

@GMG,
If you have a cscs account already, when your certificate is delivered, you can ask your relative to deposit it in CSCS through your broker - Signature verification is just what is needed (presuming that the shares are bought in your name).
if no CSCS account, you can open one through a stockbroker, you can do this by consulting (phone,e-mail, fax) with most of the stockbroking firms. This require varying amounts or combination of shares+money. you can search for the thread on Stockbroker for Nigerians in Diaspora to help you here. Then follow the first case.

The most important thing for you to do is to ensure that your certificates are lodged into CSCS and you can monitor them, trade your shares if and when you want through your stockbroker.
