Very Well
The conversion rate is right for sure.
however, you have to factor in the removal of zeroes from the Ghana Cedi and the purchasing power

Looking at the rates just on their face value is not a complete assessment in this case.

Let's say for example, Ghana didn't remove the 4 zeroes from their currency, then

67Million Naira = 10,000,000,000 Ghana Cedis

Imagine that

If Zimbabwe does the same to their currency, you would think the Zimbabwean Dollar is more valuable than the Naira. Infact, the Zimbabwean Dollar has been suspended due to the multitude of zeroes.

To provide a fair playing field to both currencies, considering these circumstances, you got to consider the purchasing power of both currencies, economies of both nations and cost/standard of living in both countries

When Ghana re-denominated the Cedi in 2007
$1 = 0.91 Ghana Cedi

Today
$1 = 5.70 Ghana Cedis

This means the Ghana cedi has depreciated almost by 6 times its value in 2007.
How much has the naira depreciated since then?
I would say, about 3 times its value. almost 4 times maybe

One can make the argument that when it gets to 10Cedis, they might remove 1 zero and start again.
haha

how do you expect them to come back
when 1 Ghana cedi = 67 naira
so go hustle just 1mlm Ghana cedi in investment it 67million in Nigeria

Your valuation is wrong Sir

Do you know Ghana re-denominated their currency in 2007, as in removing 4 zeroes.

I Ghana Cedis was 10000 Cedis

both have the same value and buying power.

Any country can decide to remove zeroes from their currency. The value/purchasing power of the currency is the most important factor.

67Million Naira will definitely get you a lot more than what 1Million Ghana Cedis can. Trust me, I've lived in both countries.

Better still, covert both to USD.

67M Naira = $186,111
1M Ghana Cedi = $175,438

@longecity
i had a copy with me but wasn't asked about it but it's best to have a copy on you because you never know
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by IgweBLaze: 1:22pm On Aug 13, 2011
@iso_savvy and longecity
really no particular challenges at POE
after passing through customs, you go straight to immigration where u submit your passoport and the letter sent to you by the embassy.
your study permit would then be printed for you
but you've got to answer questions like why are you in canada, which school would you be attennding, what are you going to study and then your accomodation arrangements.
i wasn't asked how much i had on me but you don't have to bring in more than $10000CAD as this is against their laws. i wasn't checked for that but you never know
all the same, absolutely no problems with POE
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by IgweBLaze: 3:55am On Aug 13, 2011
@guddylover
as far as you've done your medicals, you've got no problems
i think it would take you not less than 4 weeks to receive your visa
sometimes you need to make the hospital know you need the medical results sent to Paris as soon as possible
i sent my application on the 13th of June, medicals were done the next day and visa was picked up by 6th of July, the process is faster with the CHC in Ghana but you need a resident permit before it would be accepted
you should be fine though, entertain no anxiety ok!!!

@judesuyi
KLM at $2096

@cuddlemii
left early because that was when the cheapest flight was available
i met a friend here so i am putting up with him for now while we sort out the accommodation, trying to get the best for less
the school is cool though and its waiting for your smooooth arrival!!!!

I am 24, my interview is 8th of august. I am female and I am attending florida International University in miami. I am actually born again and I don't rely on all d things people have said here. I prepared like I haven't prayed and I am praying like I haven't prepared. My course is peace studies and conflict resolution.
you're only 24 and you've had a LLB and BA already!! WOW! Your academic profile would interest the VO so be prepared to answer questions on how your graduate studies would affect your career progression, why and how you chose that school. Arm yourself with every academic cert and/or transcript of yours as you go to the embassy;test scores as well if applicable. Very good answers would portray you as a candidate for the 'US brain drain machine' which is a good omen, not for naija though. Make sure your statements and sponsor details are sorted out properly. Read through the thread again so as to form mental notes on the various experiences and improve your confidence. Let Baba God be on the wheel and you're good to go. All the best.

Cuddlemii:

Amen. Are you going to stay in one of the school's residence. Did you pay for the accommodation deposit?
The school's residence for me is a no go.imagine paying almost 500k for four months and then paying the same amount b4 the next sem begins, except my sponsor is a senator with money to throw away, there are a lot of moderately priced apartments close to the school.i'll go for one of them at least i'll be able to know the town and system better than being locked up in those super expensive suites

 sorry madam, i thought you caught my drift earlier. I got the visa
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by IgweBLaze: 2:15pm On Jul 07, 2011
Dont get me wrong though.the CHC in ghana is the strictest.they refuse visas left right centre and so people dont bother to apply at all therefore they processs relatively few applicants as compared to the US and UK embassies.this allows for same day processing.you submit your app. (in person) in the morning and you're told whether you qualify for medicals in the afternoon.apps sent by courier though takes almost 2months including medicals assuming nothing goes wrong

@cuddlemii i read in this thread you'll be going to SAIT this fall, i am also slated to be there since my course commences in september, how far gone is your application?
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by IgweBLaze: 5:51pm On Jun 18, 2011
you can also add personal share certificates and those from your sponsor if applicable
if you're not employed,you should have worked somewhere b4 so just go back there and let them write a letter for you on their company letterhead which is addressed to the CDHC. to avoid pay slips wahala, indicate you're an unpaid intern and a good and responsible individual. make sure you inform them sufficiently about the contents of the letter so that you would be covered when the CDHC calls their phone numbers
enrolling in reputable computer of foreign language classes can perfectly take care of the gap between NYSC and time of application.

if you're employed, your case is solved. just a good letter of intro from your employer stating almost everything in your offer letter and of course your pay slips
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada by IgweBLaze: 5:37pm On Jun 18, 2011
Of course the HC is Accra allows study permit apps until the end of june and you need to pray hard even though you know you have covered every loophole. this info is from a recently successful applicant and I can vouch for its effectiveness.

1. 3 passport size photographs with name and DOB at the back.
2. Passport and any other other expired passports to show travel history if any.
3. Bank draft for $125
4. Application for a study permit checklist completed. Apart from that you can create your own and include it.
5. Original Study permit application made outside Canada fully completed
6. Original Family information form fully completed and Schedule 1 form duly completed
7. Copy of the bio-data page of your passport.
8. Original + one photocopy of your acceptance letter.
9. Original bank statement showing savings for the last 4-6 months- I realize that some countries are different where this is concerned so check with your local CIC office.
10. If you are using a sponsor you must submit a letter of commitment stating your relationship and the nature and level of support that they are willing to offer to you for the duration of your studies. This must be notarized and signed by the sponsor. An affidavit from the sponsor covers all these
11. The same for your sponsor as in 9- i.e if you are using one.
12. If your sponsor is employed you must submit their job letter as well as for yourself and your spouse if married and if spouse is working. If sponsor is retired show proof of this, possibly pension slips etc. If they are showing investments certificates you must provide current account statement showing that they have sufficient funds to cover their daily expenses.
13. Photocopy of sponsor's Id. A recommendation letter for the sponsor would be nice, make sure it's from a reputable community member like an attorney or a notary public etc.
14. They/you can also show property title, car title, rental income etc. This will show the VO that they/you are financially stable and they/you can support you. If your sponsor has just what you need for your expenses its possible that they will not be a good sponsor for you in the VO eyes. ie is my opinion though.
15. If you are married and have children, you must submit marriage certificate and birth certificates for yourself and your children-these are strong home ties if they are not coming with you.
16. A copy of your transcript/certificates is good but some countries say that once the school accepts you, you must be qualified because you would have already submitted those docs. to the school.
17. IELTS test for some countries, I am from English speaking so I am exempt but others can give feedback on that but I think its 6.0 and above.
18. Original police certificate
19. Proof of payment. CIC does not require it but I think it will show the VO that you are serious about your studies. Make sure that the school will refund you 100% before doing that though just in case you are not successful. Make sure its a reputable college/university.
20. If you have a resume submit it too to show your experience and education.
21. Good SOP letter if you think its a must. Let it flow, usually one page, nothing to get the VO sleepy and get straight to the point.

Finally arrange all your documents and let them flow ie, put your bank draft receipt and photos in your passport and your applications. Arrange everything for your sponsor and yourself neatly. Remember this is important to you. Spend time on it, don't let it be that if you are not successful it is because you did not submit what is required. If you are submitting copies of important docs. make sure they are notarized.

God bless

Hello guys! I was able to register today with nairaland after so many unsuccessful attempts due to reasons i have no idea of. Unto matters at hand, i still dont understand why the CDHC in Nigeria takes so much time in processing study permit applications. Maybe due to the large number of applicants or the CDHC is understaffed. The high commission in Accra processes study permits in one day as in you submit your applications b4 10am and you know if you're going for medicals between 2pm and 4pm. I am going to outline in my next post a complete list of documents needed and how they're supposed to be arranged so as to give you a good chance to qualify.
