WES GPA CALCULATOR gave 3.47/4.0

Good or bad for funding??
This was my exact same CGPA, I got direct PhD admission with funding in 2013. I think it should still be a competitive CGPA. My GRE score was 312 if I remember correctly.

Good evening house .please someone should help explain how I should go about paying my sevis fee..my aunty in the us is having issues helping me pay.she said the receipients name is showing as hers and not mine..should she go on with it? Pls how do we go about this
Fill out the sevis fee application using your details and SEVIS ID from your I20. It will generate a payment coupon with different ways of paying, I used Western Union to make a payment for a family member this week. Your aunty should go to any Western Union that has bill pay, when she is paying she will be asked to give her own details, however, the payment coupon you generated ties the payment to you. I hope that helps.

Good day everyone. Please, is the 3 year Bachelor degrees in Belgium equivalent to a 4 year Bachelor degree? I will like to know if anyone has successfully completed the 3 year degree and used it to apply for postgraduate degree in either Canada or the US. Thank you for your time.

You don't seem to understand. The room is empty, and I can't sleep on the bare floor. I've signed the lease but I haven't paid for it yet. The house is on the bus route but where I'm presently staying isn't even close to school but very far and I don't even know how to get a bus to school from here and my host doesn't have a car plus its a very long walk to where I can get a bus.... I'm even falling sick, I woke up with fever this morning and been in bed since. Couldn't even do anything today
How do I even open a bank account cos I've been carrying close to $10,000 in my purse ever since I came, and if I ever get robbed I'll loose everything. Settling down is one big problem for me here cry
You should get a letter from your school's international student office identifying as a student which you would use to open your bank account. Also you can try buying a money order...which is like a cheque so when you open your account you can pay it in. The money order can be gotten from post office or grocery store ( I think Walmart does it).
You need to fight that fever so that you are in full force for classes...back to my first week assignments.

can it move a queen sized bed with tv.... etc
There are ways around, if your school has a facebook page where people post stuff for sale. Then post that you are looking for someone with a car to help you move your things. You can offer like $20 or beer with home cooked meal smiley. Second look for older graduate students and make friends, from my experience here my seniors are quite nice...you can look for one that would help you out. Also if there is an African society in your school you should have someone there willing to help. Finally you can always get your things little by little. Even with a car I still went shopping to furnish my place about 3-4 times.

At JFK waiting for my last flight to ATL.
The Emirate experience was great...also they don't issue I94 at port of entry any longer...so those coming soon shouldn't fret.

mario2575: Hello House...Please i'll like to know how long the processing time for admission to be granted and i-20 issued. I am applying for a PG programme. My evaluated transcript arrived at the school i applied to on Friday and i haven't heard words. The programme begins on the 22nd of July and i am starting to get worried. Responses from our experts in the house would be appreciated.
If you are applying for fall 2013 (looking at the start date of your programme) then I would say that its too late for that. Its typically advisable for international students to send in there application 6 months before the start of the programme. My candid advise is to apply for spring 2014.

odowetalu: hey guys i'm currently scheduling an appointment..i don't want to rush anything but is there any direct flight to houston?
I think United and Delta fly directly to IAH(Houston)...but you could check Emirates if you don't mind Dubai layover it should be cheaper.

Oh really? I guess I'll do that too then. Where did u book the delta:jkf-atl?

When do u guys think the emirates prices will go up? Or it'll still be like this for a while
I checked for the Delta on kayak and had a relative pay for me...cost about $159.
If that is not possible then go with the emirate to ATL...its still a fair price considering direct LOS to ATL on Delta.
Also about the price going up...it is expected because summer hols are here already...so my advice book and pay early.

Emirate doesn't go to atlanta...it goes to newyork and houston...so u take a connecting flight to atlanta from newyork or houston...its way cheaper than taking delta to atlanta which cost over 300k for one way nd 200+ for return
Home boy is right...heading to Atlanta too...got Emirate to JFK...then Delta from JFK to ATL...all for about 180k...because the Emirate I paid for is just 1hr 40mins layover...so you can get it cheaper if you go for the 7hrs and above layovers.

smartguy1759: Hello pple in the house, I wanna say kudos to everybdy dt has made this thread as informative as it is. Please, I av a little ish I want the house to help me with. I got admitted into a PhD program with funding, but wit regards to this 'home tie' thing,I currently work wit a small company in which a doctoral decree might not be relevant when I come back to the country. But, I am really interested in lecturing. The problem now is shld I still get a letter from this company stating that am going on study leave, considering that I av spent less than one year with them. Or tell the VO outrightly that am resigning since PhD is nt going to be useful wit dem, and to come back and pick up a job as a lecturer and a researcher.
Please, all advice is welcomed wink
I got into a PhD program as well...but when I went for my interview I wasn't doing anything directly connected to my PhD admit. When preparing for the interview...I didn't get any letter from my employer aside from my offer letter(and I wasn't even asked for that). About the home tie...you can relate your PhD program to an immediate want in Nigeria. For example...I would say I was going for a PhD in chemical and biomolecular engineering because I am interested in alternative energy research/ better energy utilization( as we all know power is a major issue in Nigeria).
Also you could say that you want to go into academia knowing fully well that there are lot of private universities spring up...and there is shortage of qualified people...blabla...you get the point...

Ok. Cool. Though I'm yet to understand why its cheaper on wakanow than the airline website directly. I read someone's post on another thread on how he booked a flight on an agent's website, rushed off to withdraw the money from the bank only to discover that the actual flight amount he was meant to pay in the agent's account was higher than stated on the website. He said he got to learn that the actual amount is always higher than what's seen online.
Guys, is this true?
I don't know why its cheaper though I would rather pay online with a debit card. Checking Emirates service online...I think their service would be okay.
Also prizes fluctuate too...the emirates that I saw for $849 with 1hr40mins stop over is now $933. The one for $849 now is 7hrs stop over.
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by ApachaiHopachai: 8:00am On May 18, 2013
@bigfrancis
I think I would go with the emirates. The one way ain't bad and the layover is just a little below 2 hours. But booking the same flight on wakanow is actually cheaper. On emirates site the prize is $849(135,840 naira) but wakanow is 132,590naira.

bigfrancis21:

Emirates is the cheapest deal i've seen so far. Their one way is cheap. Being an airliner owned by UAE, once they after airlifting from Lagos, they first stop over at Dubai for a few hours, before then connecting to another flight to the US from there. Another thing I noticed is that the flight costs listed on wakanow seems to be a bit higher than the cost you see on the airline website directly. They are flight agents anyway, so they must charge their own commission for services rendered if you decide to book through them.

ATL GA, just like JFK, is another frequent stopover in the US for many airliners. I believe you should be able to get a direct flight to ATL, instead of getting to JFK first before ATL.
Yep Emirates is quite cheap...but my fear is the long hour...would check it out.

bigfrancis21:

I think we can also discuss that here. Its all part of the travel section. After my intense search last night I discovered that emirates seems to provide the cheapest flight costs. The same flight from Lagos-Baltimore which goes for $3,140 on Iberia airlines goes for only $856 on Emirates! The difference is way too glaring.

What searches have you made? Which state are you heading to?
Am heading to Atlanta first sometimes in mid July. My family is used to flying Delta to ATL but the prize on wakanow is quite high.About #339526 the last time i checked. I don't mind going to JFK first then connecting to ATL, but the emirates to JFK is not direct. One would be flying for over 20 hours combined. Saw the emirates for about #211838(on wakanow).
I also saw Arik to JFK(direct, one way) for #175k, but am skeptical about their services cos of some online reviews.
Edit: The Emirates I checked was return...just checked one way and its way cheaper. #132590(on wakanow).
Other flights I have been checking the round trip is always cheaper.
